DEXTA MALAWI

In the Fiery island of Jamaica where music is one of the greatest forces to be encountered there are many Artistes. But in this age when new sounds are the key to the music industry comes the distinct style and sound of Dexta Malawi.

Hailing from the small district of Cascade in the mountains of the garden parish, St. Ann, DEXTA MALAWI was born Leroy Omar Taylor on December 26, 1987.

DEXTA MALAWI’s remarkable ability to write and perform lyrics that are deep, passionately aggressive, accurate, and thoughtful may be may be His greatest gift.

The stage performances of this young prodigy are nothing short OF an interestingly smooth, mind blowing, dynamic and explosive series of events. However Jamaica's Music Industry is a fast-moving world where fame and success are difficult to gain and effortless to lose and only a select few can effectively gain and hold their audience’s attention to remain relevant to the industry as the years go by. This reality has left many entertainers with much shorter careers than they had initially expected.The Plan of Dexta Malawi involves a career of LONGEVITY.

In the mind of this young aspiring musician there are no limits to where his music can go. Malawi has always been writing music and has performed under many situations including at hotels, University dinners, fashion shows, Rasta Redemption and stage shows such as spectrum at UTech as well as Camp Fire at Windalco. His musical skills are therefore well honed and he is ready for playing his part in building the future of Jamaican music. Dexta Malawi is also a poet who has written several poems as we will demonstrate with two samples below.

Poem-Lifeguard

I spend each passing day,

Listening to the joyful sounds of families at play,

Watching the emotions they display,

Dressed in my uniform,

Wearing dark shades,

Time slowly fades,

Always learning,

Alert with my head turning,

From left to right

Skin exposed to the sun’s burning,

In the Day and the moon’s light in the night,

Always looking at water,

For the safety of a son,

For the safety of a daughter,

On the beach side,

On the Boat ride, in the swimming pools

On a Water slide,

I heard the loud help Cries,

My whistle blows,

The fun stops I jump in,

Heart rapidly pumping to make a rescue,

Do not worry I am lifeguard I will save you.
