In the clip, Hall confirms that filming for Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection is officially underway, noting it was actually captured during the first week of production, even though, by the time it was shared, the team had already moved into week two. Interestingly, the exact same thing happened with a very similar behind-the-scenes message last year, which was also filmed during week one but released later.

Hall’s message actually did exactly what it was meant to do: build hype. Within hours, the video spread across various platforms, receiving millions of views and thousands of reactions from the fans. In his own words:

One subtle but interesting detail from the video also reveals something about Dexter Morgan’s situation in the upcoming season. He appears to still be living in the same basement apartment provided by Blessing Kamara. Some of you actually caught this right away, and it suggests that despite the upcoming time jump, Dexter hasn’t moved on physically. The past few days have been packed with exciting updates for the second season of Dexter: Resurrection, and understandably so, since we’re only at the very beginning of production. Every bit of information definitely makes the wait feel easier. whether it’s casting news or new images straight from the set.

Still, there’s one thing a lot of fans have been craving ever since the last season ended back in September, and that need has actually grown stronger over time. And that is the actual plot of the upcoming season. While it had been kept tightly under wraps for months, in an unexpected turn of events, it was revealed much earlier than many of us were expecting!

More specifically, following the release of a new behind-the-scenes video featuring Michael C. Hall and James Remar on the set of Dexter: Resurrection announcing the start of production, Paramount also confirmed Desmond Harrington’s return as Quinn, now with a significant upgrade. While this synopsis doesn’t mention anything about a possible time jump, it once again puts the focus on the father-son duo played by Michael C. Hall and Jack Alcott, and most notably, it sounds extremely intriguing because of a few specific words and phrases.

Based on what we already know, the two killers mentioned are The New York Ripper and the Five Borough Killer, portrayed by Brian Cox and Dan Stevens respectively. But the real detail that stands out here is the idea of a mid-life crisis being described as Dexter’s greatest enemy yet. Of course, this is clearly metaphorical, and it could actually be interpreted in a lot of different ways depending on how the season develops.

Another point that is really interesting, is how this upcoming season is described as the darkest chapter yet for both Dexter and Harrison. We’re now in the second week of filming for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2, and so far there have been plenty of chances for fans to land background roles. But these latest casting calls are a bit different, and honestly, a lot more exciting.

The biggest thing to know is timing. Anyone interested only has a very small window to apply, as the scenes in question are scheduled to film this Friday, April 24. That alone actually makes this opportunity a little more urgent than usual.

On top of that, the casting is specifically open to non-union performers, which means everyday fans, people without industry experience, have a real shot at being selected.

So... what kind of roles are they looking to fill?

The casting includes a wide range of background parts, such as Police Administration staff, Undercover Officers, and Plainclothes Detectives, all open to individuals aged 25–55 of any gender. There are also roles for female suspects and criminals aged 18 and over.

Week two of production has just given us our first glimpse of a new face in the upcoming second season!

The second season of Dexter: Resurrection is currently filming in the heart of New York City, and day two of week two has already given us our first real look at an intriguing new character. Officially revealed just last week, Owen Stark (also known as the Five Borough Killer) is played by renowned actor Dan Stevens.

Stevens was spotted fully in character while cameras were rolling during a busy shoot surrounded by crew members and extras. The photos, captured early in the morning on April 21 by Jose Perez/Bauer-Griffin in Midtown Manhattan, give our first glimpse at Owen Stark. And first impressions? Well, unsurprisignly, he actually looks the kind of person where you can tell that something is very, very off.

We now know the exact year Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 takes place, and it’s an unexpected choice.

With the second season of Dexter: Resurrection aiming for an October release and production in New York City already underway, a lot of fans out there are starting to wonder what will the story be, and how far into the future will it take place. While the plot is still tightly under wraps, we already have a solid clue about the timeline. But, to understand it properly, it helps to (briefly) look back at how time has worked in the franchise up to now.

In the original Dexter and its follow-ups, the timeline has always been pretty tight. Each season actually take place over a few weeks or months, rather than jumping across years. Recent examples make this even clearer. Dexter: New Blood, for instance, was set in late 2021, the same time it aired, which kept everything feeling close to real time.

That approach actually carried into Resurrection. Season 1 begins just ten weeks later, after Dexter Morgan wakes from his coma following the near-fatal confrontation with his son Harrison at the end of New Blood. From there, and after a very short period of recovery, his story moves to New York City as he searches of Harrison and tries to start over. Even though the season aired in summer 2025, the actual events only cover about a month, from late February to late March 2022.

So, attention now turns to Season 2. Will it pick up right where things left off, or take a bigger jump forward? Prepare to be surprised, because based on recent set photos, we might already have our answer.

What Year Will the Events of Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Take Place?

The biggest clue comes from a small but telling detail: a vehicle registration sticker on Dexter’s car spotted in behind-the-scenes images from Day 3 of filming. Though very easy to miss (partly obscured by glare on the windshield), the sticker clearly shows the year 2026, suggesting that Season 2 is set four years after the events of Season 1!

If that’s true, which is extremely possible, it’s a surprising move. Season 1 ended at a very intense point, with Angel Batista’s murder at the hands of Leon Prater just hours earlier, and the NYPD closing in on crucial evidence connected to Don Framt, known as the New York Ripper. On paper, it doesn’t really feel like a storyline that would just sit unresolved for years.

At the same time, the most recent set photos raise even more questions, since they appear to show Don Framt still alive and free in 2026. If both Dexter and the NYPD had substantial evidence against him, why hasn’t he been caught (or killed) over the course of four years?

One very possible explanation is that the timeline shift is more cosmetic than narrative. While the on-screen year may read 2026 to align with the show’s real-world release, the actual passage of time within the story could be much shorter. In other words, the writers may have adjusted the setting to match the present day without the characters actually experiencing that full gap in their lives.

What’s interesting is that Season 1’s timeline was also confirmed through a similar detail, a registration sticker on a Charley’s car showing 2022, even though the scene itself was filmed years later, in 2025. It’s also worth noting that, based on our research, every set photo from Season 1 featuring a character’s car shows registration stickers consistently marked 2022, the year the story is set in, rather than 2025.

There is, of course, a small chance that the 2026 sticker just reflects the real-world filming date rather than when the story takes place. But in the specific set photo in question, Michael C. Hall is clearly in character as Dexter while cameras around him are rolling, which actually suggests that the 2026 vehicle registration sticker detail is intentional and part of the story.

So where does that leave us? For now, Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 appears to be set in 2026, but that doesn’t necessarily mean four full years have passed for the characters themselves.

It’s an unexpected development either way, that could change how the story plays out moving forward. The biggest question now is whether this time jump is real, or simply a clever illusion.

Week two of filming for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 is officially here, and right out of the gate, we already have our first set photos, once again courtesy of Jose Perez/Bauer-Griffin, just like last season.

These new images were captured early Monday morning, April 20, in Uptown Manhattan, and they give us another look at Brian Cox fully in character as the elusive serial killer known as the New York Ripper. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen him on set as Don Framt, of course, as our initial look at his character dropped just last week.

In these latest shots, Cox appears to be filming two separate scenes, possibly even for different episodes, and honestly, his outfit alone hints at that. In the photos, the New York Ripper is back in his electric wheelchair, actually wearing the same outfit we saw last week, with a noticeable change: he’s added a vest over his blouse. That likely has to do with the much colder weather hitting New York City compared to last week.

In another set of images, taken earlier that same morning, the 79-year-old actor is seen wearing a different vest entirely, this time beige instead of grey. While a subtle change, it is actually enough to suggest these scenes don’t really belong to the same moment in the story, even if we don’t yet know which episodes they’re for.

As expected, Don Framt looks serious but also unsettling. In one sequence, he seems to be searching for something (or someone) and based on the surroundings, including a bus parked nearby, it looks like the scene actually takes place behind a university.

In the other, where he’s wearing the beige vest, the setting is slightly different. He’s near a fenced-off area, and even though it’s close by (again in Updtown Manhattan), the atmosphere seems different.

Interestingly, no other actors were spotted in any of the photos alongside him, which could mean this moment is centered entirely on the Ripper and whatever he’s actually plotting, even if he’s supposed to be a...“retired serial killer.”

After nearly nine months of fan theories, it was officially confirmed that The New York Ripper, the retired serial killer referenced multiple times throughout Season 1, will be portrayed by Brian Cox.

Cox becomes yet another A-list addition to the series, bringing with him a career that spans over five decades and of course, countless iconic roles. With his casting, we also received a clearer picture of Don Framt (the Ripper’s apparent real name) including his age, which is estimated to be around 79–80. That detail alone actually makes him the oldest antagonist Dexter Morgan has ever faced.

But the reveals didn’t really stop there. On Thursday, a series of intriguing set pics surfaced online, giving a first look at Cox fully in character as the New York Ripper. These images answered big questions, confirmed a few theories, and of course, created more speculation.

Before diving into what these set photos revealed, it is worth (briefly) revisiting everything we already knew about the character from various Season 1 episodes.

The New York Ripper is an elusive serial killer whose crimes span at least two decades. Detective Wallace has been tracking him since very early in her career, with a total of 22 victims attributed to him over the years. His signature weapon appears to be a hook used to open manholes. What actually stands out, is how carefully he blends into the background. He appears to be completely above suspicion, living a life that doesn’t really raise any red flags. He’s not isolated either; in fact, he seems relatively social, even frequently visiting strip clubs and showing a strong interest in women.

At the same time, there’s a clear contrast in his physical condition. Framt is disabled and relies on an older electric wheelchair to get around the city.

His appearance is unpolished, as he wears glasses that appear to be broken and held together with tape, along with a noticeable mustache. There are also signs that he may struggle with basic self-care, with some visible food stains on his blouse in several images.

One especially interesting detail comes from a close-up shot of his wheelchair (see right below), where a sticker (visible behind the Getty watermark) reveals that he’s known as “Big Don.” It’s a clue that hints at how he’s perceived in his social circles, or maybe how he...wants to be perceived!

Of course, while these images answer a lot, they also raise new questions. The lack of care in his appearance suggests he may not have a spouse or someone consistently looking after him. It actually opens several possibilities: he could be divorced, widowed, or simply living alone. At the same time, it is still possible that he has children or even a paid caregiver helping him at home.

Another unknown is the cause of his disability. From his condition, it seems more likely to be the result of an illness rather than an accident, but that is only speculation for now.

Interestingly, ever since Cox’s casting was announced, there has been talk about whether the New York Ripper can really be a serious threat to Dexter. Those discussions have actually grown stronger after these set photos were released. At first glance, it is easy to underestimate someone of his age and physical condition.

But sometimes, appearances are deceiving. And these new details suggest that Don Framt may be far more dangerous than he actually looks.

Why Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Is Revealing the New York Ripper So Early — On Purpose

Dexter: Resurrection breaks a major rule with the New York Ripper. Here’s why.

Cameras are officially rolling on season two of Dexter Resurrection and with it, comes a steady stream of new casting announcements. The first season set the stage for an exciting new era of Dexter by shooting for the fences with ambitious storylines, cleverly woven sub-plots, and iconic casting choices.

With a lot of the main cast already established from season one, it’s not surprising that new names are trickling out slower this time around. What is surprising though is that one of the most mysterious new characters from season one—a character who never made an onscreen appearance—was one of the first major casting announcements; effectively removing any suspense or mystery before a second of footage was shot.

The announcement of Brian Cox’s casting as Don Framt (aka The New York Ripper) was bittersweet for many fans. This prolific actor comes with the aura of an iconic villain practically baked into his very presence; an ingredient that is sure to mix well on screen with Michael C. Hall’s beloved anti-hero, Dexter Morgan.

But despite all that, there is simply no denying that some of the very best seasons of Dexter have relied heavily on mystery and mis-direct to build tension and propel the story forward. So with that in mind, the question now becomes: Was revealing this casting choice so blatantly a mistake? Or is this a sign that the second season has much bigger, more ambitious plans than a simple game of cat-and-mouse between Dexter and a mystery villain?

Here’s What We Know Already

While ‘The New York Ripper’ never appeared on screen in season one, a pretty elaborate picture was painted of the character. We know he was active in the 70’s and 80’s but went dormant for a long period of time which left police without any new leads to follow. In time, the Ripper eventually re-emerged to torment the families of his victims with cruel phone calls.

For years, the Ripper cold case plagued Detective Wallace until she developed an obsession which is where we first meet her in Resurrection as she is circling Dexter and Harrison.

Given the huge gap in the timeline and the fact that no new kills have been attributed to the Ripper in decades, it was all but confirmed prior to Cox’s casting that the killer would undoubtedly be much older than the typical Dexter villain. Of course, parallels can be drawn to Arthur Mitchell but I think a huge difference between these two characters will be their motivation.

Arthur was a tortured soul who was driven to kill by a compulsion formed in his childhood by the guilt he felt for the death of his family. Meanwhile, all signs so far point to the Ripper being a violent sadist who derives joy from causing pain and suffering.

I would also argue that stories centered around retired serial killers have always been more chilling to me than the ones about killers in their prime. They are often more confident and frightening in their old age and it often makes them far more dangerous than their younger counterparts.

Even without ever making an appearance in season one, they were able to establish ‘The Ripper’ as one of the most sadistic killers to enter Dexter’s orbit while still leaving plenty of room to develop his character in season two. Given his brutality, age, and experience, I think it’s safe to say that Don Framt will fit comfortably into the pantheon of unforgettable Dexter villains.

What Does the Past Tell Us?

One of the benefits of being around for so long (Dexter first aired in 2006) is there are many lessons to be gleaned from the past when charting a course for the future. If you go all the way back to season one, the Ice Truck Killer mystery can be at least partially credited for hooking audiences and giving Dexter the legs that it has today.

The slow reveal of Brian Moser was the perfect vehicle for keeping viewers glued to their TV long enough to develop an understanding and appreciation for a hero character who kills and dismembers people. The fact that Brian’s true identity was withheld and coupled with a less recognizable casting choice made the eventual reveal a near perfect surprise.

On the flip-side, I think it’s important to remember that casting announcements are not always the giveaway that people seem to think they are. Season 4 achieved legendary status among fans despite clear signals from the creators that John Lithgow would be playing the villain from the outset.

They even painted him as a monster in the opening moments of episode one. None of these “reveals” spoiled the season that followed or made the story any less compelling or surprising; It’s a true testament to the talented writers at the helm and if you ask me, there’s no reason to think that won’t be the case here.

But of course, to find the most relevant and telling example of the relationship between Dexter casting announcements and the level of “intrigue” that follows, I think you should look no further than the first season of Resurrection.

The casting was insanely ambitious—and revealing—and yet, the season went on to be one of the most successful and compelling seasons in the show’s history.

The likes of Peter Dinklage, Krysten Ritter, Uma Thurman, Neil Patrick Harris, Eric Stonestreet, and David Dastmalchian were all revealed (with character details) before shooting even began and yet, the story they crafted kept audiences on the edge of their seats for the duration of the season; Making it one of the most popular and exciting seasons in the history of Dexter.

What’s the Play this Time?

For the first time in Dexter history, the audience’s fascination with an off-screen character actually manifested that character into being. Truth be told, season two of Resurrection could have looked very different if fans hadn’t been so vocal about their infatuation with the mystery killer who danced around the periphery of the first season.

In the season finale, the writers subverted expectation by finally revealing the real name of the infamous ‘The New York Ripper’ via a file folder found in Leon Prater’s vault. Dexter read the name but ended up leaving the file for Detective Wallace to find. What felt like an inevitable setup for a major reveal ultimately fizzled out as little more than a symbolic gesture from Dexter in the season’s final moments.

Luckily, the writers took notice of fan’s obsession and pivoted when breaking season two in the writers room. ‘The New York Ripper’ would, in fact, be central to the story in season two; setting Dexter up for a showdown with an older, experienced serial killer played by Brian Cox (The Bourne Supremacy, Manhunter, Succession). But now that the Ripper has a face, it leaves many wondering if the intrigue and mystery tied to the character has been snuffed out.

If you ask me, this points to something far more complex than fans are expecting. The fact is, season one of Resurrection set the bar very high in terms of storytelling ambition. Leon Prater’s murder club was unlike anything the show had ever dabbled in before and audiences ate it up.

To follow that up, a by-the-books season with the classic cat and mouse dynamic we are familiar with simply won’t cut it. By being so up front about Brian Cox’s casting, all signs seem to point to something far more nuanced.

Of course, there’s also the distinct possibility that this is a smokescreen and the Ripper might not be the primary antagonist of the season after all. Given the show’s emphasis on legacy, I can’t help but wonder if a younger member of Don Framt’s family will be carrying the torch for the Ripper.

If that were the case, it would certainly create an interesting dynamic to explore considering Dexter and Harrison’s complex relationship.

Trust the Show

Regardless of what angle they ultimately choose to explore in season two, I think the casting announcement does very little to actually cancel out any narrative potential. We know the man’s name and now we know his face.

If anything, this suggests that those details are possibly the least important information they could have divulged. Given the ambitious approach to season one, I think it’s safe to say that there is still plenty of mystery and intrigue to come as Resurrection’s sophomore season approaches.

First Look: Michael C. Hall Spotted Filming Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 — New Set Photos Just Dropped

We finally have our first unofficial look at two cast members from Dexter: Resurrection Season 2!

Week one of filming is officially underway, and this time the wait for a first look thankfully didn’t last long. Unlike last year, when set images from Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 surfaced three weeks after production began, the first photos from Season 2 have already arrived, and they’re fresh straight from the set.

Captured by photographer Jose Perez and photo agency Bauer-Griffin, who return once again to document the action in New York City, these early shots give us our first glimpse at Michael C. Hall and James Remar back in character as Dexter Morgan and Harry Morgan.

The images are spoiler-free, which is refreshing for some people out there, and show the two actors in between takes, sharing a relaxed conversation. It’s a very nice thing to see for every longtime fan, especially seeing Hall and Remar together again after portraying their iconic roles for nearly two decades. Additional shots actually place them inside Dexter’s car, which remains unchanged from Season 1, the blue Kia Optima LX.

Surrounded by a busy crew, director Marcos Siega, helming Episode 1, which is currently in production, is also spotted on set, guiding the actors through the scene. Filming is confirmed to be taking place in downtown Manhattan, and in a small but also interesting detail, Remar is seen sitting in the backseat in some shots rather than the passenger seat.

Another detail some of you will likely notice is the continuity when it comes to wardrobe. Remar is actually wearing the same outfit seen in Season 1 (light blue shirt paired with olive pants) while Hall seems to have swapped Dexter’s dark gray shirt for a dark blue one, a change that kind of matches with the color of his car.

Dexter: Original Sin Star Receives Heartwarming Gift Package from Writer—And It’s Pure Nostalgia

Alex Shimizu, known for his role as young Vince Masuka, recently received a surprise package from writer Scott Reynolds in a thoughtful gesture.

One of the most beloved prequel series in recent years, Dexter: Original Sin, may have had a short run, but fan demand for its return hasn’t really stopped. Despite the massive online petition and support from viewers, there’s still no sign that the decision to cancel the show will be reversed anytime soon.

Among the most important figures who supported the campaign to save the series with passion, was one of its own stars, Alex Shimizu. The actor, who delivered a standout performance as a young Vince Masuka, recently received a heartfelt and also unexpected gift that actually worked as a nostalgic reminder of the show’s impactful run.

On Tuesday, Shimizu shared a TikTok revealing that he had been sent a special package by Scott Reynolds, executive producer and writer across multiple shows in the Dexterverse, including Dexter, Dexter: New Blood, Dexter: Original Sin, and Dexter: Resurrection. Known among friends and colleagues for his kindness, warmth, and generosity, Reynolds made a thoughtful gesture that came as no surprise to us here at Dexter Daily.

The package itself was filled with original props from the canceled series, all tied to the character of Vince Masuka. In the video, Shimizu unboxed each item for his followers, giving a closer look and sharing a few details behind them.

The collection included Masuka’s retro sunglasses, his Miami Metro laminate ID, two vintage beepers straight out of the 1990s, his professional business card, and of course, his myopia glasses.

While Shimizu expressed sincere gratitude toward Reynolds, there was an obvious bittersweet vibe to the whole moment. Like many involved in the show, he had high expectations when joining Dexter: Original Sin. Of course, given the long-standing success of Dexter, there was a strong belief that the show would continue for years.

Instead, the series actually came to an abrupt end following the merger between Paramount and Skydance. With new leadership in place, the prequel was ultimately considered...unnecessary, something that led to its cancellation shortly after the deal was finalized.

Production is now in its first week, and we’ve gathered several filming locations where scenes are expected to take place on Friday.

For a second year in a row, Dexter: Resurrection is using New York City as its main filming location. The city that never sleeps continues to be a strong spot for TV production, with several other shows also filming there right now, but for us Dexter fans, all eyes are definitely on this one.

Since production is in its first week, excitement from locals and tourists is actually at its peak. This means that many of you are hoping to catch a glimpse of the cast filming scenes from a distance. But in a city as huge as New York, tracking down exact filming spots on any given day is not easy. And that’s where we come in. We’ve got you covered for one specific day: Friday, April 17.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Please be respectful of the actors and crew if you visit any Dexter: Resurrection filming locations. We honestly didn’t expect things to go this far, and it’s frustrating to hear that people have been showing up and causing issues, especially claiming they were “invited” by Dexter Daily, which is completely untrue. This kind of behavior can actually put people at risk, and it’s not okay.

Before getting into the filming locations, there’s one important detail to keep in mind. If you’re walking around the city and notice production signs labeled “DXO” or “DXO East Productions LLC,” those are actually tied to Dexter: Resurrection. These codenames are very common and used to keep productions under wraps, although fans who are genuinely interested, have already caught on.

According to filming notices shared with us by a local Dexter Daily reader in New York, Friday’s shoot (4/17) will take place in Manhattan, specifically in the Hell’s Kitchen / Midtown West area. The activity will actually be centered around the following three locations:

10th Avenue (east side), between West 44th Street and West 47th Street
West 45th Street (south side), between 9th Avenue and 10th Avenue
West 45th Street (north side), between 9th Avenue and 10th Avenue

Filming is expected to run from approximately 6:00 AM through 10:00 PM. As it usually happens in those cases, “No Parking” restrictions will go into effect the night before (Thursday, April 16 at 10:00 PM) in order to allow space for production trucks and equipment.

Again, if you’re planning to stop by and watch Dexter: Resurrection being filmed, you should keep in mind that there will be strict production boundaries in place, and those rules need to be respected at all times. Of course, it is also worth remembering that filming a single scene can take several hours, so you will have to be patient if you’re hoping to catch any action.

Filming for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 is officially underway, and right after production began, two of the most important creative forces behind the series marked the occasion by sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses from the set.

It all started with Marcos Siega, who posted the first images, setting the tone, and shortly after, writer and executive producer Scott Reynolds followed up with something a bit more revealing. His post was not just another set pic, it quietly confirmed the return of a key legacy character, someone who was notably absent from Dexter: New Blood, but has actually become essential once again.
