So briefly I would like to take a little poll,

Should I do a lyrical discussion every Wednesday where I post information about a song, the lyrics and the video and discuss via comments its content? The reader(you) would be the biggest part of it, so therefore you should decide whether or not to do it.

While summers whizzing by my writing is going nowhere. Literally. It’s just sitting on a shelf on my desk. Where are my excuses? I’ve been busy, lots of other random shit I can say but none of it can justify my laziness any better than just saying I’ve been lazy. I don’t know what spawned this laziness but I’ve even fallen behind on my reading. I still need to read two more books before I go back to school in September.

The past week has been pretty good I guess. I’ve been hanging out with loads of people, having fun. Just been enjoying my summer, been screwing around, causing trouble, same old same old. So no complaints on that part. I’m easing myself back into writing and reading now. “Within the Dark” is finally ready for that long awaited rewrite. I hope to be completely done with it and several others by September. I’m pushing myself!

So what else have I been up to? Well I’ve been working on that site I mentioned a long time ago, about rock music. However, I stopped the website and decided to create a forum, via forumotion. I’m comfortable with this host and enjoy using it. Why would I create a forum instead of a site? Well so I can get some actual user discussion and eventual traffic to the website once its created. I won’t give out the URL as of now, I’ll wait till next week. So remember to subscribe, cause next week I’ll release the URL and the forum will be open.

Also, I’m working on a rpg site but I’ll tell you a little bit more about that next week.

Hello everyone, well yesterday I planned on releasing the third part to The Red Pen series. BUT! I chose not to. Why? It was an epic fail. I sort of rushed into it and because of that it received little views, (I think it had maybe 5, both parts combined) that’s like the lowest ever for any post I’ve ever made, even my first one. Why was it so low? I have no clue. I believe it was my error, I rushed into it not thinking probably, fumbled upon the information and royally screwed up. I’ll re post it up, and change it up, for a future posting.

So today I figured I would post a writing article, about CHARACTER CREATION. So here it is, what is character creation? Character creation is a process in which an imaginary character is spawned from the depths of the thinkers mind. It is most commonly used in writing… DUH! Of course it is! Every writer out there who writes fiction’s most important job is to create characters. Not just fake, predictable boring, figures, but real people. Let’s call them 3D. These characters must be able to fuel the story, and aid the plot to the reader. In my opinion, the characters are the most important part of any story. Without them there is little, boringness.

So how does a person accurately create another being? Easy! Or is it? Honestly, it all depends. I can sit back and think of a thousand different characters briefly but its not the same. The better way to do it is in text. This will help you visualize the character on the paper, as well as giving it a permanent memory on a sheet of paper. This will also help you be organized if you keep the character sheets together. So, how do I do it?

This is a little form that I use:

And I throw in a bunch of other stuff but that is the basics. Also, I throw in a little sketch, to help me too.

Well being heavily inspired by Aaron Crocco’s Copious Notes blog where he discusses certain songs and lets the commenters discuss what it means. I am going to use this idea but differently. So every Wednesday I will post up the lyrics to a song as well as the youtube video of the song. I will interpret the song in my own beliefs and then I will welcome all sorts of comments from you the readers, so here we go.

Ok to start this off, I will cover Nirvana’s song “Frances Farmer will have her Revenge on Seattle“, a song off of their final studio album In Utero. So here are the lyrics as well as the video:

OK now first of all to begin this you must first look at the title. “Frances Farmer will have her Revenge on Seattle”.What does that mean? No one can interpret it besides Kurt Cobain himself, or possibly even the band members. First of all the name in the song: Frances Farmer. To avoid confusion with his daughter; Frances Bean, and yes they are two totally different people.
Frances Farmer was a famous actor who was born in Seattle, Washington. She had a relatively good acting career but suffered mental problems along the way. Being hospitalized quite a few times.

Do the lyrics have anything to do with the title? Honestly I don’t know. It could of been the whole song was about her, or nothing of it at all. The way it sounds he says several times she, and ‘I miss the comfort in being sad’. In my opinion it could of been about her mental troubles struggling with her use of antidepressants.

Well last Monday I released the intro to the series on revision called The Red Pen. One week later, I am here to post another part in this series. Though this is a day later than I claimed, I have no excuse for the lateness, so I’ll just move on. This next post in this series is one of the most important in the process. So Read On!

So now that you have begun the hefty, mind boggling process of revision your major concern is your accuracy. When you skim through your pages of writing you must keep your eyes peeled. Don’t speed read like you do through boring text, keep your eyes scanning the page. Make sure you take your time over every little bit of writing.

Another mighty aspect with accuracy is to make sure you know what your looking for. Make sure you scan for grammar mistakes, spelling errors, quotation issues, paragraph mistakes, character indecisiveness. All of these are important as the next. Keep a dictionary and possibly even a thesaurus at hand to avoid pausing in your work.

My English teacher used to say make the page look like a battle field. You should do just that. No one is perfect in their writing, everyone screws up, and screws up a lot. With your red pen make your paper covered. Correct everything, even if things may not be wrong still correct them! Do everything you humanly can to make the page look like a bloody battlefield. This will aid you in your writing. You may want to underline things your not sure of, for possible movements.

The Red Pen Part 1

Well since I haven’t posted a poem in a while here is one I wrote about a month ago. It is alright in my opinion. So here it is:

A room full of black save one light
Faces visible, staring in spite
I can’t even lie to say I’m in the right
All because their paring off too quickly
Leaving me alone, like I am too sickly
Nudging me off, quiet all too thickly

Not surprised, but I didn’t see it coming
Try to pass it off so I kept on humming
Yet my heart was shaking so it kept on drumming
So I stopped, stalled and I fell to the floor
A never happening stab right to my core
Try to get up up, but my muscles have tore

So there I lay, all alone again
There glaring to me like I’m insane
Looking for a happy man, but I’m all that’ll remain
I look up to see a wave of selfish eyes
They watch and they let my blood dry
Not a good thought, they don’t even try

So I’m sitting and I’m waiting out in this hall
Might just end it here, so I guess I’ll fall
It’s not like any of them would even call
As the men in white take my hand

As the flower of summer blooms I am taking full advantage. I have been very busy for the past week or two with about everything. Hanging with friends, going to parties, drama, the whole damn thing! Now I can finally do those things but get back to two of my loves: writing and blogging. I didn’t give up on writing for that week, of course I was tumbling ideas through my head, and fantasies of horror still spawned through the deviancy of my mind. So all and all it wasn’t a waste. My fourth lyrical album has come out earlier and it is…..ok. I like it but wish I knew where those two songs were that I wrote.

Now, I have been debating about my future as a lyricist. Why just write lyrics when I could be a musician with the same lyrical style I use now. This week I am getting new strings for my beautiful blue acoustic guitar. I will be practicing thirty minutes to an hour a day and I will be learning to play songs by my favorite artists: Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Seether, and Everclear. I have played their tabs before on my electric guitar so I know I can do it. Though my electric guitar has somehow morphed to shit. It is an Ibanez and I got it for my birthday, after I moved something inside became loose I assume. When I plug it into my amp=no sound. It isn’t the amp I’m sure, but the guitar. I am going to have my friend look at it and fix it.

If all goes well I will be posting video covers on youtube, and of course share the video on here as well. I am very syked about this, eventually I will be able to play my own songs though I do have some basic tabs of songs written. So why am I telling you this? If this goes well I will not be sharing my ‘lyrical albums’ here any longer. There will be no need, so to say. I will be sharing my music with my lyrics! Of course, this is very far off, but still a possibility. I am slowly learning that lyrics hold more meaning when placed to a melody. So let’s hope this goes well!

My writing? Besides my lyrics and music, my stories have been developing. As I stated a week or so ago I am rewriting “Within the Dark” my horror short story about the attack of mentally insane homicidal killer. I hope to end the teasing soon and get the damn thing published then share it with you! But everything takes time.

After a week or so of business I have been able to return to my computer long enough to begin blogging! Now what better way to return then with a series of on editing and revising, tips and tricks and other helpful advice on the subject. This series will span across the next week and a half, it is in five parts and each part will be revolving around one aspect of the editing/revising process.

What is editing and revising? Well it is possibly the most important step in the grand process of writing. Let’s call it revision. Revision can take a crappy piece of garbage with spelling errors, paper thin characters, and dead plot and turn it into a masterpiece. Authors will revise their work many, many times before they release it. Even after they release it! When Tolkien died they found notebooks and tons of papers with revisions for his past works. He never believed they were ready yet, his mind was constantly evolving the story.

What is the best way to revise? Voila! A red pen and some paper! The red pen is the signature of revision and hard work in the writing world. The typical way to write the rough draft is on paper, that’s where the red pen comes in. When you edit and revise your work the red pen sticks out to avoid confusion. That’s why you should spend the dollar or so to get a red pen for editing instead of a normal one. It will still do the same work but can be very confusing as well. If you type your initial draft on your computer there’s not much to say. Editing and revising still can be done but will be difficult even if you use a red font to edit mistakes.
