Our Unity Asset Server hosting is working via IP address waiting for the DNS to propagate, so you will see the dedicated website down depending on your location.

Our new dedicated server is an Intel i5 with 16GB RAM and 2TB of disk, along with a 1GB network card and a lot of TB of bandwidth to eat and… far away from DreamHost VPS as our last VPS there was honestly a bad experience.

One of the most important things in developing software is to keep your source code and assets in a safe place while keeping track of the changes. Unity has a pretty clean Source Control System: the Asset Server.

Once you have it, the #1 problem is: where do I run it? Well, if you run it on your own PC you have no safety net in case of disk failure, and if the server has to be accessed by more people on your team, people not physically in the office, then you need a cable connection and the server has to stay always on. So, the logical consequence is: I need a hosting service, but I found none!

That’s why we are proud to announce that we have just started an Unity Asset Server Project Hosting service!

Have a look to our dedicated website to find out more!

We are glad to announce that we are almost ready to release our 3D Tower Defence Starter Kit for Unity.

This starter kit, just like our successful 3D Match-3 Starter Kit, is realized at a quite high standard and obviously working and tested on mobile platform as well.

Our Roadmap is split in three milestones:

Release 1.0 (now on stage 2 in QA):

Editor extension to visually define the enemies’ wave paths (based on iTween): you can define as many waves paths you want; each path has its own set of waves and enemies

Usual stuff: base tower costs, upgrade costs, damage levels, speed, fast forward and so on
Unlimited configurable Towers’ action animations, allowing to set also the muzzle transforms, unlimited firing audio and visual effects on a per-upgrade level basis (each level can have as many animations and effects you want)

Wave manager allowing unlimited waves and unlimited enemy objects, integrated with animated characters and wheeled vehicles. Spawn/die audio and visual effects configurable on a per-enemy type basis

Unlimited and fully customizable tower upgrades

Camera modes: free fly and tower look (like the player sits on top of the selected tower following the action)

The player at any time can decide to get into a tower and play in first person, orienting the tower and choosing to fire manually or set on auto-fire mode.

Release 2.0 (Q4 2011):

Air support: the player can buy air support at every defined time interval, event or simply unrestrictedly

Network: multiplayer with Coop and Vs modes

Release 3.0 (Q2 2012):

Network: MMOG Server side support to allow implementation of statically stored virtual worlds that continue playing 24/7 accepting players at any time if an available game slot is free. Game slots are configurable to allow small or huge server configurations.

The introductory price for the version 1.0 will be $110. The price will go to $165 upon release of version 2.0 and finally $260 upon release of v. 3.0. Releases 2 and 3 will be pushed on Unity Asset Store as updates, so early adopters will have all those great features for free!

While we wait to have dimeRocker fully working to publish on Facebook we decided to publish a simpler and totally free version of Action Shooting Camp on Kongregate. What the difference is between this version and the coming Facebook edition? Well, the main one is the social gaming integration, but also the gameplay is a bit different as on Facebook it’ll be more challenging because the weapon reloading and the single shot are premium features, making more interesting challenging friends. On Facebook will also be possible to get more time to finish the ranged levels.

Just click in the logo here to give it a try on Kongregate!

Here we are again presenting a short video of the last title that hit our production queue: Amazing mazes. It’s the digital reproduction of a common kids’ toy that kept us occupied when we were kids , the well known Marble Maze!

My wife last week had this idea and I liked it a lot, so here we are presenting our first level, still unfinished. As the game logic is quite simple what it’s needed now is just a few tens of levels, so we are down to producing those quickly. Our art guy (Enzo, see our Team page) suggested to theme the game on pirates, so it’s a nice Pirate Marble Maze variant.

This should be published on Facebook at the same time of Action Shooting Camp, so we’ll have two games hitting Facebook’s consumers around mid January, so it’s in a week or so

Well… time to stop bragging about it and make place to the video

It’s holiday time for most of the people, but for independent game producers this is an occasion to work harder on the games that are under development because we have holidays on our day job So, even if here in Ireland we had the worst weather of the last 50 years and the house pipes are still frozen… we are progressing at a great pace! While helping the porting of Torque X to XNA 4.0, our “Action Shooting Camp” (on Facebook) is ready to be published: we are just waiting for dR Arcade to add multiple leader boards and we are good to go. “Run!” (on Xbox 360)) is in its final assembling phase so in a couple of weeks we’ll be out in play test and then we’ll release. After these two titles we are going to finish “Get Out!” (on Xbox 360) and another small one (again on the Xbox) which has no title yet.

Bottom line… keeping busy!

Action Shooting Camp is our first experiment on the Social Gaming front. Facebook is a too big and interesting market thus we decided to try something on it.

In this game the player is a SWAT trainee facing the challenges of an almost standard Action Shooting Camp. We present two different gameplay here:

The classic range action shooting where in a given time (3 minutes in our game) the trainee has to clear a given number of targets. If the player hits civilians loses hits so to reach the needed 50 valid hits within the 3 minutes needs to be very careful.

The classic reverse time attack: on the given path are hidden a number of targets; the player has to clear the area in the shortest possible time. This gameplay is pretty much the same seen in Call of Duty 4 (Training Course) so the users of this genre of games are quite familiar with the approach.

We are going to publish this via dR Arcade as we believe it’s the perfect starting point. Here’s a video of the game in its present development state: the code is finished, the music isn’t final and so the levels that need some more polish.
