After winning the Twenty20 World Cup and beating the Aussies in a tri-series, Mahi is trying a masterstroke. At a ripe 26, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has turned his focus to academics.

Building on his reputation as a ‘finisher’ in ODIs, India’s cricket captain is attending to some unfinished business—a graduation degree.

It is in this connection that he met Ranchi University Sports Director Jai Kumar Sinha . “He has expressed a wish to pursue B.Com from our college. But he’ll have problems attending classes both owing to his cricket engagements as well as his star status. We’ll need to complete other formalities including the University’s permission,” said Tete.

The principal’s fears don’t appear unfounded as the local hero, chief guest at the finals of the Inter-Class Canvass Ball Cricket Tournament in the college, created a mini-stampede when hundreds of students surrounded him on Wednesday.

Dhoni's old hairstyle got Presidential approval at Lahore in February 2006 when General Musharraf complimented his long locks while handing over the man-of-the-match award to the dashing keeper batsmen who scored 72 off 46 balls to guide India home in the third one-day international against Pakistan.

Referring to a placard waved from the stands, Gen. Musharraf had exhorted Dhoni to keep his hair on. "There was a placard held by a fan asking Dhoni to cut his hair. The iconic cricketer from Jharkhand has confirmed that come the next cricket season, he would grow back his hair and sport the long locks that made even Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf his ardent fan.

"You may see me in my old hairstyle after this summer," Dhoni told a gathering of fans and the media at his hometown before emplaning for Mumbai yesterday. The India ODI skipper also revealed that on hindsight he liked his old looks better than his current one.

Karachi, March 16 (IANS) Mahendra Singh Dhoni has a new fan. Dhoni's instinctive leadership skills have bowled over former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul Haq, who cannot stop gushing about the Indian skipper's calm demeanour during the tense moments in the series Down Under.

'I have been impressed with his captaincy. He is calm in difficult situations and has a positive approach. He takes bold decisions and has faith in his team-mates,' Inzamam was quoted as saying in The Dawn.

Inzamam said beating Australia in their own den is a big achievement for Dhoni and his young guns.

'It is a remarkable achievement for any young captain. He believed in his decisions and it paid dividends in the end,' he said.

Inzamam said India's aggressive behaviour on the field rattled Australia in the recently concluded series.

'Indians were aggressive right through the tour. You can win against the Australians only if you show the same level of aggression,' he said.

Inzamam, however, added that the controversies surrounding the acrimonious series indicate that the International Cricket Council needs to step in to ensure things do not get out of hand.

'There were so many controversies during the tour. The ICC now has a bigger responsibility to ensure fair play,' he said.

Marriage proposals are Going on

"Marriage proposals are raining on us," said Dhoni's sister Jayati with evident pride.

But the Dhoni family does not have any plans to marry him off. Even the 24-year-old himself is apparently not ready to settle down yet.

"We will think about marriage after three years," Jayati told IANS at their home.

And what kind of girl do they have in mind for Dhoni?

"We will prefer a good natured girl who can adjust in our family," she said.

She added, almost immediately: "There is no girl in Dhoni's life.

"For Dhoni, cricket is everything. We too have become celebrities now thanks to his success. Now people ask us to fix appointments with him.

"But even we find it hard to arrange appointments with Dhoni as he has no time. I sometimes feel bad for not being able to arrange meetings.

The Dhoni family is also receiving scores of letters and greeting cards from fans. Many letters reach the Dhonis even though they do not carry the complete address. A simple "M.S Dhoni, Ranchi" seems enough!

His parents are proud of Dhoni.

"We had confidence in our son. He is proving that now, and everyone recognises his talent," said Dhoni's father Pan Singh.

Pan Singh also wants his son to be inducted in Test matches and his batting order advanced. Dhoni's mother Devki recalled that her son was always on the top in both studies and cricket.

"My son always stood first in his class and now he has become a star in the cricketing world," she said.

THE LATEST CONTROVERSY is that Dhoni had tipped the curator of Kanpur pitch...THOUGH BCCI had told that it is the usual practice of tipping and it is same like tipping the hotel staff,dressing room helpers etc ,still there is suspicion whether the curator was forced to make a under prepared,spin-friendly pitch.However the curator refused and stated that he did not receive any money(amt claimed as tip-RS.10,000)..

The South Africans seem to have taken the matter lightly and Boucher has told the media that it is no big deal and if any touring side comes to Durban,they may ask the curator to keep more grass to assist pace and the pitch will suit the home side better!!So what do u guys think?Whether India won an unfair test?
