And "Oh, don't forget the brisk/striding walking for dessert. I'm feeling indulgent tonight." I can see it now – fitness influencers posting videos of themselves power walking through nature with dramatic music playing in the background. Maybe I should start a trend and record myself strolling through my living room with some epic soundtrack – "Eye of the Tiger" or maybe "Chariots of Fire."

But let's talk about the real heroes here – fitness trackers. If you're not measuring your walking speed with a fitness tracker, are you even living? I can imagine a scenario where people get competitive about their walking pace. "Oh, you walk at 2 miles per hour? That's cute. I do 4 miles per hour, and I've never been healthier." Fitness tracker envy will be the next big thing, mark my words.

Would you mind sharing your thoughts and allaround experience? (Lows, sport, nights) Do U think I should switch or am I better of staying with Humalog?

Career Move Advice for a Diabetic

Hey everyone, I'm an American type 1 looking for advice regarding evaluating health insurance coverage when it comes to career moves.

I'm under 30 and was diagnosed about a year ago, thus I've never had to really take nitty gritty insurance details into account when considering a job.

I'm looking for advice on how to best determine whether the level of health insurance coverage offered by a new employer would be the same, better, or worse than what I currently have.

Just as a baseline I'll throw out my rough monthly medical costs now:

Monthly medical insurance premium	$150
Monthly Novolog	$50
Monthly Dexcom	$62
Tslim Supplies (sites, reservoirs)	$0

Aside from the fixed monthly costs here is some other info:

Quarterly endo visits: $100
Tslim pump: $100 (More of a one time fee but I felt it was relevant to include)

My Dexcom g6 (newest version) is asking me to calibrate each day. Why?

I LOVE my Freestyle Libre 14-day CGM. I do have one feature that would make it LEGENDARY!

I, like many of you, use the Freestyle Libre 14-day CGM. No daily finger pricks, running history, quick test 24 hrs a day, patterns, phone app...it is amazing.

But I have a feature that would launch it into the stratosphere. Have it connect to Google Home. If my sugar starts going low or high it could notify me. I can verbally tell it to record my dosage amounts. It could also be programmed to determine amount of insulin needed if I tell it for dinner I am eating 1 cup peas, 8oz steak, and a 16oz milk.

If my sugar goes low I could tell it I am going to eat a Rice Krispie treat and it would say to eat 2oz or whatever.

If my sugar goes dangerously low and I do not respond, it could notify an emergency contact by SMS or phone notification to check on me.

It’s like an electronic diabetes dog. I feel it’s very possible.

Target has these pencil cases for $3 — perfect if you’re on MDI and don’t want to pay for an expensive carrying case.

Father likely about to be diagnose with Type 2 Diabetes. I know nothing about it- what can I do?

Father is 60 and very overweight. Just got diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, and he's going into the doctor to get more information next week. He lives in the UK.

From my understanding, this is manageable, but he has to lose weight and eat more healthy. I want to support him and help him make a plan.

Any advice or input greatly appreciated- this is all brand new to me.

Had a series of nightmares, woke up at 12. late for work, exhausted. Today is going to be fun..

Injecting insulin in non-conventional places?

My apologies if this has been asked before, but I didn't really know which words to use to search for it.

Because of lipohypertrophy and lipoatrophy on quite a lot of places due to not having been properly educated about lipos as a child, I often find myself struggling to find any places to inject because there aren't many left that haven't been overused, and I have become pretty afraid of making it even worse. This has made me think about trying to use different places that aren't recommended (stomach, upper outer legs, butt and upper outer arms). Examples for alternative places I have been thinking about are upper inner legs, lower inner legs, upper inner arms and hips as I have a some fat there as well that seems to be painless and easy to inject in. (Maybe even breasts for women would be possible? Not that I would ever try to do that as it seems painful, but theoretically it should be possible, no?)

I'm hesitant to try it, but why would doctors not recommend these or other places as long as there is enough fat present to be able to properly inject? Any thoughts or experiences with it?

Doctor not helping. Tresiba and Trulicity not working. Nobody listening.

(First off, sorry if I'm misspelling the medicine)

My doctor has had me on Tresiba for over a year and Trulicity for 6 months... It's not helping. I took my blood sugar, it was 340... I had grapes for breakfast, then 2 pieces of pizza for lunch. (Not a great lunch, I know)

I took my 80 injection of Tresiba and cleaned the house for two hours, not eating or drinking anything aside from water in that 2 hours... Tested again, my sugars were 320. It only went down 20 points after 2 hours and my injection.

My doctor was actually terminated, and so I'm going to someone new in the same facility... But they just want to keep me on the same medicine, saying it may eventually work...

Could anyone recommend a new medication that I could suggest to my new doctor?

What would you do? (This facility is the only one near me taking Medicaid, I can't go elsewhere)

I became diabetic due to my eating disorder. When I was young, my father failed to keep food in the home. Drugs and alcohol were aplenty, but not food.... I used to cry myself asleep, as I'd go days without eating. I was underweight. When we did eat, it was bologna and hot dogs. I remember going outside and eating pebbles, lemon grass and clover flowers during the summer when school lunches were gone. I ate bird seed from the neighbor's feeders and picked some unknown berries that fell from under a tree a couple miles from home. I shoplifted often.

When I was 13 Mom gained custody-- FOOD GALORE. I started eating like I had to make up for the childhood in which I was ALWAYS without. I'd get up at 3am and eat multiple packs of ramen, even when we had a good dinner. She tried to make up for the years we were hungry too, giving us anything we wanted and then some. She bought so much junk food.

I've settled down a lot thanks to years of therapy, but it was too late. In 2 years I quickly went from being slightly pre-diabetic to having seemingly uncontrollable diabetes. I'm 27. I don't eat any sweets or drink anything containing sugar. Despite my efforts, i cannot lose weight.

So today I had a meeting with my boss's boss. She is new to the team and wanted to meet everyone one on one. You ever get those low blood sugars where you don't recognize it? Well I certainly do. The meeting was thirty minutes long, and I don't think I made one sensical complete sentence. I have to give her a ton of credit though - managing to stay engaged talking to someone who doesn't even know his own name (yes, I seem to recall a point where I tried to introduce myself, and it went a little something like "hi! I'm uh.... Uhhh.... Uh..... Hello.").

Going to message her tomorrow explaining the situation and maybe have a redo, but all I can do whenever I think about how embarrassing that whole interaction was is to postfix it with the theme from Curb Your Enthusiasm.

For those that are worried, I had the low blood sugar ravenous hunger after the meeting and ate enough to be a functioning member of society again.

What are some of your cringe-worthy low blood sugar interactions with other humans?

Hi everyone, I recently (1 month) got diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus (I think type 3c) due to necrotizing severe pancreatitis. I'll just be brief with the background and give the story another day, but it was completely preventable, and it was alcohol related.

My diabetes seems to be pretty well managed so far, I test with a monitor when waking, prior to a meal, 1 hr after a meal, 2 hrs after a meal, and before going to bed. My 30 day mean is 6.1 mmol/l. Blood sugar peaks to around 7-9 mmol/l after a meal and drops within 2-4 hours. Waking is around 4.8-5.5 mmol/l. I have a pretty disciplined diet of and consume 0 sugar based sweets, and no sugary foods.

I started with 30u of long acting insulin in the morning and night, making it 60 units per day, I have dropped to just taking 20u in the mornings. I also take metformin at morning and night. I was getting hypos with the insulin night dose, ever since stopping night insulin, I've not got one since. I have never experienced any symptoms of hyperglycemia (yet, but hopefully hardly ever).

I heard that cgms/pumps can improve ones outcome significantly. The costs for one in Australia is about $10,000 AUD and apparently have to be replaced every 2-4 years. So it seems unnecessarily expensive and difficult to obtain.

What's the opinions of some of you experienced diabetes veterans? If you guys want to know anything more, I'm hanging around.

I’ve had this for years on and off but ever since I got diagnosed with type 2 last year, it’s came a lot more. Does anyone else get rotten egg burps and a horrible stomach ache until you throw up all day or is it just me? I’ve heard it’s linked to diabetes and people have even said, metaformin. This is literally ruining my life at the minute. Every single time I eat something now, after it’s cleared up, it’s back 12 hours later for another 3 days. I literally cannot eat. I’ve been water fasting on and off for weeks now because I cannot physically eat to avoid this. Woke up with it today again and I know I’ll have 3 days of pain and throwing up again. I’ve had a stomach ulcer for a solid 2 and a half years and I think my stomach is genuinely infected or something. I juice fasted for 40 days in a row 6 weeks ago to try and heal my stomach issues and yet again, I’m back to square one. Don’t know what to do anymore but this isn’t a good way to live life and I’m constantly angry/upset and it’s taking its toll.

Today marks the day I'm off insulin shots completely and just taking metformin 2x a day. Pretty happy!

Was diagnosed back in early October and have been working my ass off learning and understand how to cope and do better to turn things around. As time went on, things started getting much better and my units dropped big time. So as of today I went from 24 units (morning), 20 units Lunch/Dinner, and 34 units bedtime to just 500mg metformin 2x a day. Looking forward to improving more as I pick up my exercise. About 20 years ago, since then he's stop drinking alcohol, switched to diet soda ( I know its not much better, but he's trying), took his meds and checked his sugar. A lot of life has happened, let me give a very short overview.

My dad has battled addiction for about 17 or so years. he's been through rehab, relapsed and then found cocaine. The pandemic has made it hard to find any, and he's been clean since early April (something good came from this shit year I guess ). He lost his house and moved in with his sister and brother about 10 years ago. I recently found out he has not been taken his meds or really seen a doctor in the last 3 years. a little over a month ago he told me he has a pretty bad wound on his heel. Its a pretty gnarly ulcer, I clean his wound everyday. We've been seeing doctors (primary, podiatrist) non stop since then. Slowly we are getting him back on track, its not easy. He's stubborn, and a loud arguer. He's depressed, doesn't shower ofter and eats whatever is easiest, McDonald's and Wawa. So here's were I need some help.

I want to put together a meal plan that would be easy for him. I want to make the meals so he doesn't have to worry about anything but his meds and his dog. Tips and recipes, any advice really, would be very helpful.
