Being told by your doctor that you have borderline diabetes can be a scary thing. It’s a life changing situation. But, every year, hundreds of thousands of Americans are being told just that as the number of diabetes cases continually rises. Currently, there are over 18 million known case of diabetes in the U.S. that have diabetes. It’s estimated that there’s approximately 6 million more people that have diabetes and don’t know it. And it remains a serious health problem costing patients billions of dollars in health care every year.

What exactly is borderline diabetes? Sometimes called pre-diabetes, it’s a condition where a person has glucose levels between normal levels and levels that would identify them as diabetic. The reason that many people don’t know they have the condition is that it’s relatively free of symptoms. In a person with no signs of diabetes, the body produces insulin in order to assist the cells in breaking down foods into energy. In diabetics and pre-diabetics, however, either the body is unable to create insulin or it is unable to make use of the insulin. If you’ve wondered why those with borderline diabetes always seem to be tired, this is why. They are eating foods, but their body is unable to break down the food into usable energy.

A lot of physicians have discontinued using the terminology borderline diabetes to describe this condition. The way they see it, a person who exhibits the symptoms of pre-diabetes is, in fact diabetic. and they see no real medical reason to confuse the situation. many also feel that telling someone that they have borderline diabetes inhibits the person from taking diagnosis seriously - because “borderline” sound as if you don’t really have a disease. Others doctors feel that the condition of these patients is more precisely described as insulin resistant or impaired glucose tolerance. Other doctors, however, still use the term and find it helpful to maintain the distinction between pre-diabetes and diabetes.

For medical care physicians that continue to use the term, borderline diabetes is diagnosed when a person’s glucose level, as determined by glucose tests, fall between 100 to 125 milligrams per deciliter.

Unfortunately, in most cases, a person who has borderline diabetes will see the disease progress to diabetes. In some cases, however, with a change of eating habits and other healthy lifestyle changes, the disease will be reversed.

According to many health experts, pre-diabetes is a preventable disease. Studies have shown a distinct correlation between the increase in the amount of fast foods that we eat and the new incidences of type II diabetes. Likewise, there is a correlation between our increasingly sedentary lifestyles with increases in the number of people diagnosed with diabetics. Making the defeat of diabetes even more urgent is that a person with pre-diabetes or diabetes is at greater risk for a host of other diseases including heart disease, stroke, liver disease, and more.

Fortunately, scientists and researchers have started to discover and catalog the many risk factors that predispose one towards getting diabetes. They are hopeful that, in the near future, diabetes will be looked upon as disease of the past.

Diabetes is normally called as ‘high sugar’ problem. In Diabetes, the level of blood glucose (sugar) increases 126mg% level or much. Much of what we consume is changed to glucose. To take this sugar one’s body requires insulin. When there is deficiency of insulin, this sugar can not be used by the body and diabetes happens. Diabetes symptoms occur because of collected high blood sugar and deficiency of sugar used by the body.

Diabetes:Importance, Prevention & Cure of the Disease

Diabetes can bring serious ramifications that can cause frailty and even death. It is also a heavy economic burden on the patient. One in ten of us will get this disease, which means either one will need to take care of themselves, loved ones or friends and family who will have this disease. That is why it is significant to know about this disease. Insulin is produced by the body. Less amount of insulin causes this disease. Depending on the level of need for extra insulin by people, in some cases diabetescan be precluded and in some healed. That is in very small percent of patients only. Do not be befooled by false calls of cure for this disease.

Diabetes Complications & Preventions

Complications of this disease can be dangerous and also causes low blood sugar, high blood sugar, sepsis, kidney failure, ketosis, acidosis, heart attack and stroke. Other ramifications of this disease can be draining and include cecity, foot amputation, marred kidney function, erve problems and impotency. All the complications of this disease can be precluded if the correct direction is started early enough. Even if the correct direction starts late in many cases further important declension can be precluded.

Test to Manage Diabetes

Steady and oft (daily) blood glucose examining is the best way to bring off one’s diabetes. Urine shows glucose (sugar) when it is above 180mg% in the blood. When blood sugar remains from 140 to 180mg% for a long time it can injure much. Also morning urine makes a mean of all night’s urine.

Important Number in Diabetes

Blood sugar examines gives blood content of sugar for that one bit when the blood was taken for examining. Another significant test gives a mean of blood sugar indicants over the early three months. That is known as A1C and is more significant than a single blood sugar indication as it is taken to relate with complications of the disease in a patient. Usual level is 6.5 in the absence of sequences of low blood sugars.

Hypoglycemia is a condition where the amount of glucose in the blood has reached abnormally low levels. Glucose is critically important to the body. It is especially important to the major organs of the body such as the brain and the heart. Moderate hypoglycemia can result in dizziness, confusion, anxiety, and the trembling of limbs. Severe hypoglycemia can result in heart palpitations, seizures, unconsciousness, and even comas. Diabetics are especially at risk for episodes of hypoglycemia because of their body’s inability to create or regulate insulin properly. It’s therefore important that they learn to prevent hypoglycemia in order to stave off it’s harmful effects.

1. There are many drugs of diabetes. Some medicines as well as other substance such as alcohol can also lower your body’s glucose levels. Taking medicines can be tricky as you always have to be aware of the possible drug interactions with your food intake. Before beginning to take any medicine, you should ask your doctor or check with a drug manual to find out if it has any affect on blood sugar levels, and if so, make the necessary dietary adjustments to ensure that you won’t suffer “insulin shock”.

2. Being consistent with when you eat meal by having them at approximately the same time every day, is one of the best ways to combat hypoglycemia episodes. By not skipping or delaying meals, and eating the same amount of food at each meal or snack time, you help to stabilize the amount of glucose entering your body at any one time.

3. Pay attention to the kinds of foods that you eat. If your blood glucose levels are constantly hovering at or under 50 mg/dl, you’re in danger of acute hypoglycemia. A good thing to do is to speak to a nutritionist and your doctor to develop a series of meal plans geared towards keeping your blood sugar levels at optimum levels. And even though your doctor is your ultimate guide in regards to treating your diabetes, most doctors are not well trained in nutrition. Having your nutritionist develop a meal plan and then running it pass your doctor is probably the best way to go.

4. Before you embark on a strenuous exercise routine, be careful. Physical exercise gets your body’s adrenaline pumping and makes your body’s organs work harder. The compounding of these two factors has the potential to deplete much of the glucose in your body. If your are at risk for hypoglycemia, before you begin exercising you should consume some healthy carbohydrates. This can greatly help to keep your blood glucose levels in the normal zone.

5. Constantly monitor your blood sugar levels. Many times you won’t experience symptoms of low blood sugar until you are already in the hypoglycemia range. Monitoring your glucose levels is the only reliable way to ensure that you become aware of a potential hypoglycemic situation before it actually occurs. Adequate glucose monitors are relatively inexpensive these days, making it very easy to monitor your situation.

But what do you do if you have already begun to experience the signs of low blood glucose? The fastest means of alleviating them is to raise your glucose levels back to the normal range. Usually this is done by eating a carbohydrate such as a banana, some crackers, etc. Many people with diabetes make a point of carrying snacks with them for just this type of circumstance. The best cure, however, is to follow dietary rules to help keep you from getting into a bad situation.

One of the longer term complications of diabetes is nerve damage where feeling in the lower limb is lost. Try to imagine what happens if you can’t feel your feet and you sprain your ankle. As you can’t feel it, imagine what happens as you keep walking on that sprained ankle. This is what can happen in diabetes and is known as Charcot’s foot (or Charcot’s neuroarthropathy).

Essentially what happens in Charcot’s foot is that the ability to feel pain is lost or impaired (due to the diabetic nerve damage). The muscles can then loose their ability to properly support the foot. Then minor trauma (eg sprains or stress fracture) to the foot go undetected and no treatment is given. Continued walking on the foot further increases the damage.

Usually the first sign is that the foot is warm and swollen and no pain will be present. A deformity then will start to develop if no treatment is provided.

Prevention of further joint destruction and foot deformity is the main aim in treatment. Total rest is essential and support is needed to stabilise the damaged area. Most cases will be put in a plaster or fibreglass cast called a ‘total contact cast‘ to relieve pressure and to prevent further deformity. This can take up to 6-9 months to heal properly. A drug (called a bisphosphonate) have been shown to be useful in many cases.

After the Charcot foot has healed then specialized footwear and foot supports may be needed to prevent it occurring again. If the deformity is severe or it happens again, then surgery may be used to reshape the deformity.

If you have diabetes and start to loose sensation in your feet and legs, then the risk for developing Charcot’s is high. Feet need to be checked regularly for any signs of swelling, redness or temperature changes. Very prompt medical attention is needed to halt the progression of the problem.

If you are a health professional, the most recent information on Charcot’s neuroarthropathy is available at Podiatry Arena. If you have Charcot’s and want to ask questions about it or make contact with others who have it, then there are the Charcot’s Foot threads at the Foot Health Forum.

When your blood glucose level falls below average levels, the consequence is hypoglycemia or abnormally low blood sugar. The typical cause of this condition is either an overabundance of insulin or an inadequate diet. But, hypoglycemia can also be triggered in diabetics by a delay in eating a meal or as a result of over-stressing the body from too much exercise. Many people refer to hypoglycemia as “insulin shock” because of the extreme and sudden effect that it has on the body. Because hypoglycemia can possibly cause brain dysfunction and weakness, it is extremely important that those at risk learn to recognize it’s symptoms. Based on to research paper about diabetes mellitus, common symptoms are:

Pale and sweaty skin - when the body begins to experience hypoglycemia it releases epinephrine, also known as adrenaline. This is an attempt by the adrenal glands to raise the body’s blood sugar levels. High levels of the epinephrine hormone causes the skin to become pale.

Racing heart beat - adrenaline also causes the blood vessels to constrict and the heart to beat faster. The person may experience heart palpitations and a pounding heartbeat. Other symptoms caused by adrenaline flooding through the body can be trembling of the limbs, a tingling sensation in the hands, and a general sense of anxiety.

Headaches - The brain, as do all of the major organs, needs glucose. A drop in blood sugar levels means that there is less glucose available to the brain. If there is only a slight drop in the glucose levels, the result may be a mild headache or double vision. A more severe drop, however, can lease to seizures. And an even greater drop can possibly lead to loss of consciousness, difficulty concentrating and confused speech or, in the worst case, lapsing into a coma.

Severe hunger - the body is constantly in a state of adjusting itself to various circumstances. When the blood sugar levels drop, the body instinctively knows that it needs food to get the levels up again. The way of letting us know that is to send hunger signals to the brain in an attempt to get us to eat. Once we eat, the blood glucose levels return to normal and the hunger subsides.

The symptoms listed above normally don’t start to show until the blood glucose levels fall a fairly significant amount such as below 60 milligrams per deciliter of blood. Also, if the person is taking medications for symptoms other than diabetes, it’s important to be aware that some medications may mask some of these symptoms. In addition, not everyone has the same reactions to low blood sugar so they may naturally experience different symptoms.

For a person diagnosed with diabetes, It’s not at all unusual for him or her to occasionally get hypoglycemia. In fact, diabetics may become very familiar with many of these symptoms since the regulation of blood glucose levels with medicines is not quite an exact science. As the blood sugar levels return to normal, however, the symptoms will usually slowly dissipate. Nevertheless, anyone experiencing any of the conditions listed above should make sure that their physician or health care provider is aware of them.

Early diabetes signs can be elusive or seemingly benign — if one has them at all. One could have diabetes for long period or even for years and not have any diabetes symptoms. Understanding potential diabetes symptoms can take to early diagnosing and treatment — and a lifetime of better health.

Diabetes Symptoms are Excessive thirst and increased urination: Drinking more and urinating more is an early sign of diabetes. When someone has diabetes, extra sugar (glucose) builds up in the blood.

If the kidneys are unable do the job, the excess sugar is passed into the urine along with liquids taken from the tissues. This stimulates more often urination, which may leave dried up. As you drink more liquids to satisfy the thirst, you will need to go to the toilet more.

Fatigue: One may feel exhausted. Many elements can add to this. They are drying up from raised urination and the body’s unfitness to work properly, since it’s ineffective to take sugar for energy.

Weight Variation: Loosing weight easily is also a possible diabetes symptoms. When you lose sugar by urination, you lose calories.

Also, if the diabetes stops the sugar from getting to the cells it could cause constant hungriness. The combined outcome is possible weight loss, especially if you have type 1 diabetes.

Blurred vision: Diabetes symptoms sometimes demand the vision. High content of blood sugar take liquid from the tissues, including the lenses of the eyes. This impacts the power to focus. Left untreated, this can do new blood vessels to make in the retina another serious problems health.— the hind part of the eye — as well as harm old vessels. For most of the people, these early alters do not cause vision troubles. Nevertheless, if these alters advance unobserved, they can lead to sight loss and sightlessness. This is a type 2 diabetes symptom.

Slow-healing sores or frequent infections: People with diabetes have found that contagions appear more usually. There has not been enough evidence to prove this is true or tell us why it is happening. It could be that higher amount of blood sugar spoil the body’s natural curing process and the ability to battle contagions. Contagions on the bladder or around the vagina are particularly common.

Pins and Needles in the hands and feet: More sugar in the blood can cause nerve injury. You may feel prickling and some loss of sense in the hands and feet, as well as a burning pain in your arms, hands, legs and feet.

Thyroid gland is a small mass of tissue that is present on either side of the trachea or in general a windpipe. It is one of the most important organs of the human body. The entire body systems run on metabolism and metabolism is controlled majorly by the help of thyroid gland.

Hypothyroidism is the condition that results from malfunctioning of the thyroid gland. The thyroid gland produces insufficient quantity of the thyroid hormone called as thyroxin. This situation is also developed from the pituitary deficiency, but it is generally due to some abnormality in thyroid gland by birth (called as congenital/deformity) anomaly.

There are many ways to treat the thyroid gland. One of the best ways is adopting home remedy. Home remedy starts from your kitchen and undoubtedly helps in preventing, controlling and treating the diseased condition. There are many benefits of home remedies and one out of them is the cost.

Home remedies are comparatively cheaper and affordable than other therapies to treat hypothyroidism. Here are some of the home remedies that can be very effective in treating and controlling the thyroid gland. Many of them do not decrease or increase thyroid function but it regulates the gland to produce enough quantity of hormone.

1 Spirulina is considered as good health booster and thyroid regulator. There are many products available in the market containing this wonderful herb.

2 Take black Cohosh that helps in balancing the estrogen levels and can also be useful in controlling thyroid gland function.

3 Mullein covers and protects the cells and reduces the inflammation of the glands including thyroid gland. This is very useful in case of goiter.

4 Agnus castus can support the pituitary gland and can help balancing estrogen that is known to interfere with normal thyroid functions.

5 Siberian Ginseng is very useful for adrenal and thymus glands and therefore also helpful to support thyroid health.

6 Another good home remedy for thyroid gland is to have primrose oil. This is the fatty acid that restores the functions of the thyroid gland.

7 Regular intake of vitamin B complex is extremely helpful in treating thyroid conditions. Taking them also prevent other minor diseases. You should include green leafy vegetables. Vitamin B complex can also be taken as pills. It improves the cellular oxygenation and gives us energy. The group provides immunity and rejuvenates the body.

8 Bladder wrack is rich in natural iodine. This will be very beneficial in preventing and treating various thyroid disorders.

9 Food from the kitchen that contains calcium, zinc, iron, copper, manganese, terbium, and neodymium are very useful minerals and trace elements those are necessary for the good health of thyroid gland.

10 Go for the low calorie food. Cut down on cakes, biscuits, sweets and alcoholic drinks those are relatively high in calories but low in nutrients.

11 Go for the food that is rich in vitamin A like yellow vegetables, eggs, carrots and dark green leafy vegetables that are thyroid boosters.

Everyone needs food for energy but this does not always happen especially when a person suffers with diabetes. We must have glucose for our energy. Diabetes will stop the supply of energy and makes it stay in the blood creating many issues. It is essential that the glucose is absorbed into the body but this condition creates high levels to accumulate in the blood.

Diabetic Grocery List

This condition comes in two forms, type one mostly affects young people, called juvenile onset diabetes and is when the body completely stops the production of insulin, this can occur at any age. The hormone insulin, which is produced by your pancreas, will enable your body to use glucose for energy. The other type of diabetes (type 2 or late onset) is not quite so severe, the body is still producing insulin but there is a problem with its production or use, but fortunately this type can be treated with a special diet.

Diabetic Food Grocery List

Many of the foods we eat such as bread, potatoes, rice, pasta and fruit are converted into sugar and give us the energy we need to maintain life. Some serious conditions can result from excess levels of glucose in the blood including blindness, heart and kidney disease and even the removal of limbs. By sticking to a diabetes health care regime, most of these conditions can be helped, then many of the conditions associated with this condition can be slowed down considerably if not stopped altogether. It is possible to live a relatively normal life provided you stick to the plan laid out by your doctor, but this means sticking to your medication, watching your blood sugar, cholesterol and to stop smoking!

Hypoglycemia What to Eat

It also means that you will need to keep your weight relatively stable within a prescribed range which should also help to reduce your blood pressure to within tolerable limits. Once you have diabetes, you have it for life, there is an estimated two and a half percent of the population with diabetes. The frightening thing is that it is estimated that at least the same number of people has this condition but just don’t know it yet, each year there are over six hundred thousand new cases. It is believed that as many as 320,000 diabetics die each year in America while only 34,000 of those actually die directly from the condition itself.

If you are diagnosed with diabetes as an adult, you have diabetes type 2. Today, there are far too many kids also being diagnosed with diabetes and this is is called type 1. Is there a cure for diabetes most expert say no, but you must know that taking care of yourself is the key to reversin diabetes and its health effects the problems associated with diabetes. Taking care of yourself does not only mean avoiding sugar, but it also means eating fiber, low carbohydrate and other foods that help control sugar levels, and having proper and regular exercise.

Having diabetes puts a person at risk for many complications such as heart disease, kidney and other organ failures and infections, teeth and gum diseases, and blindness. This is a disease that should be taken seriously and demands all the respect due any life threating disease and if not managed, will take its toll on your health. People with diabetes are 2-4 times more likely to have a heart attack or stroke. Diabetics are also at high risk for infections with their feet, which, if not taken care of, can result in amputation.

The American Diabetes Association recommends that your blood sugar not exceed 70-120 if you are not diagnosed with diabetes. If you have diabetes, it is recommended that a lasting blood sugar level be up to 130. After eating, that level can rise up to 180. Your M.D.will be conducting what is known as an A1C test, thisshows the levels of sugar in your bodyfor 2-3 months previous to the test and will let you know the readings. The American Diabetes Association recommends that this level not exceed 7.0. You must make appointments and keep the appointments on a regular basis and get this test done regularly to know if you are hitting the levels that are most desirable for your situation.

Any type of exercise you can do will also keep your levels consistently low. Ten minutes three times a day of exercise is fine if you cannot get in 30 minutes of exercise in the day. The goal is to bring down your A1C levels and the sugar levels in your blood. For every 1% you can get your level down, it is thought that you can decrease your risk of certain health related problems by as much as 40%. That is a huge incentive and will prolong your life and also the quality of life.

You should not skip meals to try reversing diabetes. After you eat, the body will demand the pancreas to increase the insulin output and also the liver will shut down making more sugar. If you do not eat, these signals are not received. When you have diabetes, these signals are not so pronounced. So, eating small amounts throughout the day is key to keeping the insulin levels in balance and not spiking or dropping levels. If you do not eat, you body can become nedgy, shaky, dizzy, light-headed, and you might start to have difficulty even speaking coherentlys. hypoglycemia is when your blood sugar levels go too low.

You need to limit your intake or cut out alcohol when you are diagnosed with diabetes type 2. The prescription drugs taken with diabetes can have bad side effects when alcohol is ingested.

If you take diabetes seriously and manage the types of foods and timing of meals and snacks as well as keeping exercise a routine of your day, you can overcome the unwanted problems of diabetes and live a long life. You family and friends are counting on you. There is hope out there and someday, god willing, we will know how to cure diabetes

Over the years, diabetes has slowly become a major public health problem. Over twenty million people in the U.S. have diabetes according to the According to the juvenile diabetes association - most of them with type 2 diabetes. With the federal government and insurance companies facing increasing medical costs of treating diabetes and its associated problems, there is a great incentive to begin identifying those at risk for diabetes before they actually develop this chronic disease.

One way of determining this is with different kinds of diabetes pre-screening tests. Diabetes is a metabolic disorder in which a person has excess sugar in the blood. You can’t perform testing, however, by merely drawing blood and measuring the glucose levels. This is because a meaningful percentage of the populace has normal blood glucose levels during the day but elevated glucose levels as they eat throughout the day. Any valid test for diabetes has to take this into account.

Medical care practitioners use 3 primary text to determine if someone has diabetes. What they measure is how fast and efficiently your body is able to clear glucose from your blood stream. A test showing results of relatively high glucose levels is a good indication that you have glucose intolerance, pre-diabetes, or diabetes. The three tests are:

1) Random or casual plasma glucose testing - the patient can be tested at any point in the day. According to the American Diabetes Association, if the test shows a casual plasma glucose concentration of 200 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dl), it has met the criteria for a diagnosis of diabetes.

2) Fasting plasma glucose (FPG) testing - sometimes referred to as the fasting blood sugar test because the patient has to fast before the test is administered. Fasting, in this context, means that the patient has not consumed food or drink, other than water, for at least eight hours prior to the test. It’s probably most convenient when done first thing in the morning after a night’s sleep. The test measures blood sugar levels. The normal glucose level after fasting is approximately 100 mg/dl. A diagnosis of diabetes can be made if the glucose concentration is 126 mg/dl or more. Monitoring of the blood glucose measurements persists throughout the day. Because this test is relatively inexpensive, it is a popular one with insurance companies and health care providers. This is also a standard test given to check for pre-diabetes.

3) Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) - The best and most comprehensive of the tests. It is more sensitive than the FPG test and can test for impaired glucose intolerance which the other two cannot. It’s also the most expensive, making it the least popular with insurance companies and health providers. The test is performed two hours after orally taking 75 grams of glucose. A diagnosis of diabetes can be made if the blood glucose results show 200 mg/dl or greater.

For various reasons, a testing result can give a false positive, indicating that a person has diabetes when, in fact he doesn’t. Because of this, if a test shows positive, it should be repeated to confirm the results.
