O what a show , what a game the unheard Footballers from Nawalapitiya the Up Country Lions created a biggest upset so far in the Dialog Champions League played in front of thousands of fans where they beat the former Champions Renown by 2 goals to 1. It was a remarkable victory and biggest ever for the Up Country boys as with this victory they answered all critics who under estimated the ourt station teams inclusion I the DCL. They opened the scoring at the 36th minutes with a stunner which beat goal keeper Sathis to make it 1-0 till lemons. On resumption the game was very competitive and at the 86th minutes UP country scored again to make it 2-0 sealing the victory, Amanulla’s Renown had to wait till the last seconds of the game and in the additional time M.FAsal scored for them to make it 2-1.

SOLID –A SOLID Win against Kalutara Park……

Kalutara Park could not match the game plan of Solid and they lost heavily to Anuradapura boys with a bigger margin 4-0. For Solid it was a good win in their home town and the Team is making a huge impact in the DCL with 2 Solid wins and a draw making 7 points in 3 matches.

BLUE STAR GOOD WIN AGAINST SAUNDERS….

Blue Star kept their thousands of fans in a happy mood when they beat Saunders 1-0 at Kalutara, So the Saunders will have to perform better specially their strikers if they want to be a match winning team .

DON BOSCO hard fought win against Pelicans

Don Bosco who travelled to Kurunegala had a tough game against Kurunegala team even when they were leading 2-0 at lemons ,After the break the peicans gave a strong attacking display making 2-1 at the 70th minute but could not find the net again against the much experience Don Bosco defense line.

MATRA CITY HELD AIR FORCE…………….

Matara managed to draw the 3 rd match against much fancied teams like Negombo Youth ,Saunders and drew with Air Force for a score less draw, The Air Force goal keeper saved an almost certain goal to prevent the defeat for them .

SUPER SUN hold fancied Java Lane

The Beruwala minnows gave a spirited display of soccer in City League grounds when they held Java Lane 1-1. It was Sarvan who opened the score at the 2nd minute of the game to make it 1-0 for Java lAnae. But the Beruwala boys came back to the game with an aggressive attacking game play which resulted in Ysuf scoring at the 60th minute to make it 1-1 draw. The Super Sun almost missed 2 sitters and have they converted them it would have been one of the biggest upsets in the Dialog League.

COLOMBO FC yet another good game draws RATNAMS

Colombo FC too had a good game against the defending champ[ions Ratnams and they drew 2-2 . They were leading up to the last 10 minutes and then EB Channa the senior player for Ratnams crossed for a converted goal by Tharusha to make it 2-2

Over 5000 spectators in Kalutara went jubilant when their Afrikan player KOA Kolayami hit the net at the 80th minute to beat Saunders at Vernon Fernando Stadium –Kalutara. It was a very exciting game of Football for fans and the score was 0-0 at lemons. After the break both ahd been playing attacking football and the Saunders goal keeper excelled in between the posts to save certain goals until the dead was broken by the Blue Star Afrikan at the 80th Minute of play.

Don Bosco who travelled to Kurunegala had a tough game to over come the resistance from Pelicans and managed to pull a good 2-1 win against Pelicans in their home soil. DCL is drawing bigger crowds and it was witnessed at kurunegala too. Don Bosco had an early lead in the 8th minute through Priyankara Silva and again at 23rd minutes. Through a good move and scored by Diwan Wiched but the Pelicans came back to the game in the second half with much attacking style of play. They netted their goal at the 70th minute through Pradeep Rodrigo and the rest of the 20 minutes were very exciting as Pelicans chased their opponents for the draw but wasa not successful . a Red Card was shown to Don Bosco player MF Rameers at the 50th minutes reducing Don Bosco to 10players in the last 40minutes of the game.

SUPER SUN Drew Java Lane at Slave Island…

Java Lane opened the score through M.Sarwan at the 12th Minutes and seemed to have been taking little easy against new comers Super Sun – Beruwala. They lost the rhythm in the process and Super Sun almost scored before lemons. Later at the 78th minute Super Sun equalized through M.Yusuf and maintained the daw till the long whistle.

Apparently, everybody’s got a smartphone these days. Wherever you look – at restaurants, at the movies, at the cricket stadium – people can be seen hunched over their touchscreen phone, tweeting, updating their status, checking in or taking pictures (or, in some extreme cases, all four at once). But appearances can be deceiving, as we all know. Due to various reasons – price being chief among them – mobile phone users in Sri Lanka have been stuck with outdated feature-phones for the longest time, not being able to experience the magic of the modern smartphone.

That is, until now. We at Dialog have decided to change things around – not by selling a substandard product just for the sake of putting a low price tag on it, but by introducing not one, but two affordable yet power-packed smartphones whose capabilities go beyond anything you can get in the market for that price. And best of all, they come with the Dialog brand.

Unless you have been living under a rock, you’ve probably already heard something about these two budget phones: (namely, the i35 and the i43, both running Android: Gingerbread). And when we say budget, we mean budget.

The i35, the cheapest of the two is only Rs. 9,990. Just sit and let that sink in for a moment. A 1GHz smartphone running Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread at only 10 grand. And if that sounds unbelievable to you, check out the specs of this gadget:

It comes with a 3.5 inch screen, dual-core ARMv7 processor, 512MB RAM, 3G, WiFi, two cameras, 4 gigs of internal storage and loads more. Perfect for running most apps you can throw at it – including games – lag free. Any other similar device available in the market for this price just pales in comparison.

Then there is the Dialog i43, which is a tad pricier at Rs. 16,990, but worth every extra cent, considering it’s still mind-numbingly cheap for a phone of its capacity. This powerhouse of a phone comes to you with a 4.3 display and a 5 megapixel camera (rear), and is one of those gadgets that you can be proud to be the owner of.

We are hoping that these two awesome, but affordable devices will truly revolutionise telecommunication in Sri Lanka, the way the introduction of the mobile phone did all those years ago. We are living in the Twitter age; and Sri Lanka cannot afford to be left behind. It is our firm belief that with the introduction of these devices, the modern smartphone will be commonplace in all parts of the island, urban and rural alike, bringing the wonder of ICT to all Sri Lankans.

PS: Here is a great, unbiased review from the good people at readme.lk.

We sat down for a quick chat with our General Manager Mobile Broadband & Fixed Telecommunications Mr. Navin Pieris on all things LTE and what is on offer for our loyal customers. Excerpts follow:

What is the difference between Fixed-LTE and Mobile-LTE?

LTE (Long Term Evolution) is the next generation standard for high speed wireless data Given the availability of all parameters such as good coverage, backhaul, international bandwidth, and sufficient spectrum, LTE can deliver speeds above 100Mbps.

There is no difference in standards between fixed and mobile LTE. The difference is only in the implementation and the terminal equipment. The current launch from Dialog Broadband Networks (DBN) is a fixed implementation of LTE in line with its license which is a fixed telecommunications license.

In the emerging era where consumers seek to access rich content such as video and rely heavily on the internet for their work, high speed broadband has become equally important in fixed (for example home and office) environments as well as in mobile (for example while travelling in a vehicle) environments. In fact you will find that most heavy duty data access – for example to watch full length videos or upload/download files takes place in a home or office environment or while waiting at a public place. The fact that the LTE terminal comes with WiFi built-in means that you have a combination of a LTE data pipe to your home, office or public place and dedicated WiFi coverage. This enables not only LAN connected devices at your home or office but also wireless connectivity for the latest wireless devices such as smartphones tablets and laptops.

Our Investment in a Fixed LTE network and the structuring of a low entry cost for the LTE terminal is driven by the insights gained over the years on broadband use, and your requests as customers for a reliable high speed data connectivity for an environment where multiple devices are used.

Most of your data usage happens at home, or at a single location. Most of you are starting to have more than one device that needs data connectivity at the same time. Most devices connect seamlessly and without hassle through Wifi and is your connectivity method of choice.

Therefore if you are a person with a single Pc that connects through a LAN port or a multiple device user with Laptops, Smartphone, Tablets, Smart TV’s and games consoles this is the solution for you.

With this solution.

1. Everyone can have connectivity at the same time. No more waiting for the Pc to be free.

2. Smartphones and tabs connect through Wifi to download data intensive apps. Appstores such as google play and apple Itunes recommends that these apps be downloaded through wifi. Smartphones prompt you to switch to Wifi for heavy app downloads.

3. If voice connectivity is needed you have the option to enable and connect up to two telephones to the device.

Therefore the solution we have provided caters to many of your usage scenarios be it personal or business.

What is the frequency?

This implementation of LTE is on 2.3GHz. The customer premise device we provide connects seamlessly to the network and is “Plug & Play”. However what should be noted is that any device that can connect to a LAN port or supports Wifi can connect.

Therefore can I connect my Iphone 5 on Wifi ? yes you can.

Will I be limited to only 4Mbps?

No. Although our package promises 4Mbps We haven’t capped the speed you can receive. Depending on network resources available to you, burst speeds in excess of 20Mbps can be reached. We have designed our network to deliver the 4 Mmbps speed as a minimum so as to ensure a delightful internet experience at an affordable price – however speeds can burst to higher levels depending on the number of concurrent users of the network.

The maximum speeds on an LTE network depend largely on the spectrum available for transmission. The TRCSL has done a great job clearing spectrum in the 2300 band. The quantity of spectrum currently available doesn’t permit a network to hit the 100Mbps levels – however with the ongoing efforts of the TRCSL to clear more spectrum for high speed broadband, this will be realizable in the future

Will speeds improve in the future?

Yes, it is dependent on spectrum availability as discussed above.

How soon can we expect 4G in greater Colombo?

Colombo is covered. We will turn on area by area and customers will be notified of availability. If you are interested please call our hotline 0117100100, and leave us your name, address where you will use the solution, and contact information, and we will get back to you.

Will other Cities around the country be covered as well?

Yes, again we will notify you as soon as zones are implemented. Our vision is to provide 4G services in all major towns and cities and to make access to this network affordable and of high quality.

What about the 3G network, will you continue to improve it?

Yes, we have made very aggressive and significant investments in the 3G network during 2012 – we have upgraded over 1500 towers, added international bandwidth, and invested in caching solutions. While this is going on you the customers have rewarded us with more and more usage – we are committed to implement further upgrades to the 3G network to ensure you get the best possible quality and value on your 3G devices.

The modernization program continues and we will spend more than USD 35Mn Aprox Rs 4.6Billion in network upgrades to support you within the next 3 months as well.

What our dialogs plans for mobile LTE ?

The TRCSL is currently engaged in a process of determining the methodology for releasing spectrum for mobile LTE. Mobile Operators have not been granted spectrum for Mobile LTE as of now. There was a related press statement from the TRCSL carried on news wires on 15th Nov 2012 which points to a spectrum allocation process in the near future which is great news. You would recall we ran a live LTE pilot – covering Colombo 2 and 4 areas in May 2011- in fact it was the first real outdoor LTE trial in the entire region and was tested for vehicle and outdoor coverage. Our network is now LTE ready in most areas even now – so with the release of spectrum by the TRCSL we will be in a position to launch mobile lte services as well.
