Amassing an empire of 15 dealerships and stores across the nation, Bruce Rossmeyer staked his claim as the world’s largest Harley-Davidson dealer with his crown jewel, Destination Daytona off Interstate 95 in Ormond Beach. However, Bruce Rossmeyer died on a Harley while riding a Wyoming highway with a pack of friends this past Thursday, July 20, 2009.

Rossmeyer was traveling with a group of friends on his way to the 69th annual Sturgis motorcycle rally, one of the nation’s largest. He had recently left one of his Colorado dealerships to meet with the Hamsters motorcycle club. According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Bruce Rossmeyer along with five other motorcyclists were riding on Highway 28 where they were following a pickup truck pulling a recreational travel trailer being driven by Robert L. VanValkenburg, 73, of Rock Springs, Wy. and when the truck slowed down to begin making a left turn, Bruce Rossmeyer tried to pass him when they collided. Bruce was not wearing a helmet and VanValkenburg’s turn signals and brake lights were working at the time of the crash, the report said.

News of his death shocked me and the many attendees in Sturgis who have arrived at the rally. “His death is going to change the entire motorcycle industry,” Woody Woodruff owner the world’s famous Buffalo Chip said. “You have movers and shakers, and Bruce was definitely a mover and shaker. He made things happen. You lose someone like that and it creates a big void.”

Born in New Brunswick, N.J., Bruce Rossmeyer built his first career as an automotive dealer, starting with his own Dodge dealership in New Jersey in 1969. He opened a Harley-Davidson dealership in Daytona Beach, almost as a hobby as part of his retirement, in 1994. During the next decade, Harley-Davidson and the whole biker culture roared into the mainstream, becoming a billion-dollar business, and Bruce Rossmeyer enjoyed the ride.

Bruce’s crown jewel, Destination Daytona, is like Hawg Heaven for bikers with hotels, condominiums, restaurants and stores which, of course, are all anchored by the World’s Largest Harley Davidson dealership. Bruce Rossmeyer opened Destination Daytona in 2005 as Bike Week hit its peak, attracting over a half million bikers and motorcycle riders to town.

Bruce Rossmeyer, 66, is survived by his loving wife Sandy, five great children (Mandy, Wendy, Randy, Will & Shelly) for which all are involved in his businesses, and seven lovely grandchildren.

Bruce Rossmeyer’s Family has asked that all Family and friends, please join them for a celebration of Bruce’s life on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at 11:00am at Christ Presbyterian Church, 1035 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, FL with Pastor John Cole officiating. His family will also receive friends on Monday August 3, 2009 from 4-9pm at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond.

In lieu of flowers, please help continue Bruce’s lifelong commitment to helping children in our communities. Memorial donations can be made to the Camp Boggy Creek, 30500 Brantley Branch Road, Eustis, FL 32736, or the Boys and Girl’s Club of Volusia/Flagler Counties, 101 North Woodland Blvd., Ste 400, Deland, FL 32720-4296.

In addition, friends may send condolences to Lohman Funeral Homes. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond.

Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson at Destination Daytona, the Beach Street Location and New Smyrna will be closed on Tuesday, August 4 and will reopen on Wednesday, August 5.

Brother Bruce…God Bless and May you ride the paths of heaven forever along with our fallen brothers and sisters.

Rest In Peace,

This article is not about motorcycles, custom motorcycles or Harley Davidson.

However, it is about a fallen soldier being honored with the utmost due respect! I am sure that if you are a Veteran of the Armed Forces or a True American, you will enjoy knowing there are others like you here in Georgia that respect and honor our fallen solders.

With all the doom and gloom in the news about our great country going downhill fast, watching this will not only bring tears to your eyes but should restore your hope for our future. There is a silent majority of true patriots out there and we won’t give up on our freedom. God bless the families of those who gave all and God bless America.

Killed in action the week before, the body of Sergeant First Class John C. Beale was returned to Falcon Field in Peachtree City, Georgia, just south of Atlanta, on June 11, 2009. The Henry County Police Department escorted the procession to the funeral home in McDonough, Georgia. A simple notice in local papers indicated the road route to be taken and the approximate time. Nowadays one can be led to believe that America no longer respects honor and no longer honors sacrifice outside the military. Be it known that there are many places in this land where people still recognize the courage and impact of total self-sacrifice. Here in the South, Georgia remains one of those graceful places.

The link below is a short travelogue of that day’s remarkable and painful journey. But only watch this if you wish to have some of your faith in people restored.

I’m honored to have watched this, I hope that you are too. God Bless America and God Bless Sergeant First Class John C. Beale. May he ride in the paths of heaven forever along with my fallen brothers and sisters.

Well worth watching, please share widely and pass on to all you have in your address book.

Rest In Peace Brother,

Are you a disabled veteran, do you have shorter legs or are your legs beginning to find the weight of a full size Harley Davidson Touring Motorcycle a little heavier than your legs can easily handle, due to bad hips, bad knees, or another reason like an older age?

Take a look then, LegUp LandinGear is readily available for full size Harley Davidson touring bikes. It is a computer controlled assembly with push buttons that lowers the wheels when you’re coming to a stop to stabilize the bike or to assist with slow speed turning whereas you may feel the need to lower your foot while turning. The LegUp LandinGear system is designed to work with your legs although it will support the bike unassisted, however, please note that it is not designed for anyone that has no use of their legs. But, it does assist those who prefer not to ride a trike and loose the freedom that a motorcycle presents to the rider.

Watch the LegUp LandinGear Video. The wheels appear to work smoothly and you can raise them with a button, plus they retract automatically when you begin to accelerate. Notice that the lean angle is not affected when retracted and you can actually ride at slow speeds with the wheels down, allowing some lean to take place. The wheels can only be lowered at speeds 10 mph and lower, and they will raise automatically above that speed.

The LegUp LandingGear system is retails at $2999.00. Installation is straight forward without any permanent modifications necessary to your motorcycle, plus you can remove it later if you sell your motorcycle and want to install it on another. It is now available for Harley Davidson Motorcycle’s Touring Bikes and also includes the redesigned LegUp LandingGear system2009 models.

The 13th annual Leesburg Bikefest April24, 25 and 26, sponsored by the Leesburg Partnership, in Lake County comes alive with the roar of over 300,000 thousand bikers and motorcycle riders from throughout the United States when they ride into Leesburg, Fl for the 3 day motorcycle rally.

The Leesburg Bikefest is one of the most consistently popular Bikefests in the entire country, and here’s why! The City of Leesburg Florida does a great job of welcoming bikers, year after year. During the Leesburg Bikefest, all traffic in Downtown Leesburg is open to motorcycles only and that is one of the things that we like best about the Leesburg Bikefest. It makes it safer for bikers, and it makes it really nice for the pedestrians who just like to walk around and admire some nice looking chrome and iron on the custom motorcycles. Ride in, it’s like one big bike show!

Businesses in downtown Leesburg realized they needed to revitalize, and the Leesburg Partnership certainly has done a superb job. The whole city of Leesburg gets involved, folks are friendly, and the entertainment, whether it is rock or country, is top notch, and there are 8 stages with over 40 concerts to hear your favorite music from! The police officers are nice and friendly, you really have to show your ass to get in trouble here! Great entertainment, bars, beer, food, great people, and motorcycles…you cannot possibly go wrong!

Downtown is wide open…Ms. Leesburg Bikefest Contest, Rat’s Hole Custom Motorcycle Show, Biker Games, and Vendors galore. The motorcycle rally events are held in Historic Downtown Leesburg on West Main St. from Canal Street to 9th Street and are open daily from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm. The bike show will have 17 categories including antique scooter, motor bike and sports bike. All bikes must run to enter and trophies are awarded to the winners. For additional information Click Leesburg Bikefest or call 352-365-0053.

If you need top notch service, parts, accessories or the best dyno tune in the southeast Contact Gator Harley. Ask for Patrick or Mike and tell them Boss Hawg sent ya!

For driving directions Click here on Map Quest.

Free Admission • Main Street Open to Bikers Only • Party in the Street • Rat’s Hole Motorcycle Show • Live Entertainment on Eight Stages • Ms. Bikefest Contest • Trials Riders • Restaurants • Bars • Food •

Also, if you like you can ride your motorcycle about an hour east to the Mainstreet Bayou Boil in Daytona Beach. We went last year on one our custom motorcycles and had tons fun drinking in the street, eating crayfish and listening to live bands that were playing in front of almost every bar on Mainstreet. Thaats right…Mainstreet is closed to all traffic including motorcycles.

Put A Breeze Between Your Knees and Ride Safe.

See ya there,

My Friends, a fellow American passed this to me today and asked if I would post it here at Diamondback Bobbers. Gladly I said to him. I told him that I am a Vietnam Era War Veteran, having proudly served in the US Army’s Big Red 1. And, two things that are certain…I love my country and I love motorcycles!

It just goes to show you what some of the world thinks of us and most of all what a lot of the French think when you are in their country. If you do not believe me, take a trip to Paris (I was there in the military several times for joint military exercises with French Canadian Soldiers) without speaking French and be dressed in an American Military Uniform! Therefore I would like to pass along my friend’s little quotes that he sent to me today.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When in England , at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if Iraq were just an example of empire building by President George W. Bush.
Colin Powell answered by saying, “Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return.”
You could have heard a pin drop.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

There was a conference in France where a number of international engineers were taking part, including French and American. During a break, one of the French engineers came back into the room saying “Have you heard the latest dumb stunt President Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he intended to do, bomb them?”

A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: “Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and from their flight deck. We have eleven such ships; how many does France have?”

You could have heard a pin drop.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included Admirals from the U.S. , English, Canadian, Australian and French Navies. At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large group of Officers that included personnel from most of those countries.
Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked, “Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking French?”
Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied “Maybe it’ s because the Brits, Canadians, Aussies and Americans arranged it so you wouldn’t have to speak German.”
You could have heard a pin drop.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

AND THIS STORY FITS RIGHT IN WITH THE ABOVE…Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane. At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry on.

‘You have been to France before, monsieur?’ the customs officer asked sarcastically.

Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously.

‘Then you should know enough to have your passport ready.’

The American said, ‘The last time I was here, I didn’t have to show it.

‘Impossible. Americans always have to show your passports on arrival in France!’

The American senior gave the cocky Frenchman a long hard look. Then he quietly explained, “Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in 1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn’t find a single Frenchmen to show a passport to.”

If you are proud to be an American, pass this on!

For those of you that do not know, Willie G. Davidson is the Grandson of one of the original founders of Harley-Davidson. He studied graphic arts in Wisconsin before attending the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, California. After graduating from the Art Center, he held positions at Brook Stevens Associates where hes designed furniture and outboard motors. Then Willy G. held employment at some of the major automakers which included Ford. However, his design interests were heavily influenced by his grandfather’s love for the Harley Davidson Motorcycle and the custom motorcycle scene in California which led him begin to designing custom motorcycles as a hobby.

He joined the design department at Harley Davidson in 1963 which in turn lead to the design of several of the motorcycle company’s most admired motorcycles. Willie G. Davidson was the instrumental force behind Harley Davidson’s designs of the Super Glide which was my first Harley Davidson motorcycle, the Low Rider and the Fat Boy. His artistic design vision and love for riding motorcycles have made him a legend among throngs and throngs of motorcycle enthusiasts worldwide.

Willie G. Davidson will be presented this prestigious award during the Eyes On Design 2009 weekend events which take place June 19, 20 and 21, 2009 in Detroit, Michigan. Please join me in congratulating Willie G. and his influence in making the Harley Davidson motorcycle and custom motorcycle marketplace what it is today.
