Happy September to us all! I’m so relived that it’s finally a bit cooler and less mosquito-ey outside. We’ve had some absolutely prefect weather in Maryland lately, and Mr. DitL and I have been taking advantage of it by going for lots of walks, visiting the Farmer’s Market (the apples are so fantastic right now) and listening to the incredibly fantastic Dungeon Crawler Carl audiobooks together in our hammock.

Yes, I did just finish reading those books before starting the audiobooks. And yes, the audio version of Dungeon Crawler Carl is as good as you’ve heard it is. Click here for my full thoughts on this series.

Isn’t it funny how September can still feel like a new beginning even when you’re many years too old to be heading back to school?

This Victorian enamel cuff bracelet blows my mind.

I will give you a moment to pick your jaw up off the floor after seeing that initial photo. This Victorian era enamel cuff bracelet is an immediately impactful piece: bright colors, stunning silhouette, large scale, enthralling imagery!

This beauty stopped me in my tracks when I spotted it shining up at me in Circa 1700’s case during the most recent NYCJAOS show. Circa 1700’s booth was so busy that I only had a chance to ask for a closer look at one piece, but oh what a piece it was!

More ethical jewelry designers at Beaumont Jewelry Collective

It’s time for Part 2 of my Beaumont Jewelry Collective series, in which we will look at the next five of Beaumont’s Terrific Ten ethical jewelry designers!

As you know from Part 1, Beaumont Jewelry Collective is a family-owned online jewelry store dedicated to offering artisan fine jewelry made by independent jewelry designers who prioritize sustainability and responsible production in their work in specific, impactful ways.

They actually prefer to use the word “purpose-driven” to describe their business model because vague buzzwords like “sustainable” or “ethical” are so often a sign of greenwashing, when businesses use grandiose but essentially meaningless words to declare themselves good for the Earth but don’t give any details explaining how they actually give back or make sure their stones come from sources that follow rigorous standards.

This NeverNoT collection offers the exuberant music-inspired designs you didn’t know you were longing for.

The 90’s kid in me squealed with joy as soon as I saw the colorful boombox jewelry in the email pitching me NeverNoT’s newly launched Music collection. This line is so whimsical and joyful and fun – exactly what we need to keep ourselves going during this blisteringly hot summer.

NeverNoT describes this launch as a High Jewellery homage to the universal power of music.

I can’t believe it’s June, can you? This year is flyyying by.

I’m excited to have a break from travel for a few months. As much as I enjoyed my recent adventures in Mexico, Paris, and NYC, I’m an introvert at heart and I’m excited to have some downtime in my cozy house to catch my breath for a while.

Mr. DitL and I have been working on a corner of our house that’s intended specifically for reading time and we’re both very excited to finally have our reading chairs in place. Mine is this petite recliner from West Elm that I find spectacularly comfortable. I’ve been visiting it in the store for literal years to make sure it’s really a good fit for me (a perfectly comfortable chair is no small achievement when you’re 5′ 2″ and have chronic pain) but now that it’s here I couldn’t be happier with it.

Mr. DitL and I just returned from the most fabulous adventure in Paris! It was a big family trip – 11 people in total, and I thoroughly enjoyed all of the beautiful Parisian chaos.

We admired art at Musée de l’Orangerie and Musée d’Orsay, took in history at Versailles and Musée Carnavalet, enjoyed nightlife at Cabaret Paradis Latin and Le Duc des Lombards, oohed and aahed over stained glass at Notre Dame and Saint Chappelle, strolled along the Seine and the Champs-Élysées, and ate everything, everywhere, all of the time.

I’m exhausted, happy, and have mountains of laundry to do. Keep an eye on my Instagram, where I’ll be sharing some more photos and giving some Parisian gluten free pastry and jewelry shopping recs.

The Art Deco lapis ring I can’t stop thinking about.

It’s been a minute since I did a whole feature dedicated to a single ring, but it’s an old school DitL classic style of post and this beauty absolutely deserves the solo treatment.

I encountered this Art Deco lapis ring at The Vintage Jeweller’s booth at the most recent NYCJAOS event. It twinkled up at me from a tray of other rings and I knew I needed to try it on.

This lovely piece isn’t the biggest or the flashiest ring, but I find its combination of materials and details to be utterly irresistible.

My favorite reads of 2025.

I know that most people shared their favorite reads of 2025 at the end of 2025, but I wanted to wait. I always do a lot of reading in December and I didn’t want to risk leaving out a last minute fave!

I read 142 books in 2025, mostly Fantasy and Romance (something about the current political landscape makes me want to read about worlds that don’t exist).

I enjoyed these fun graphics that Goodreads sent out about my year in reading…even though they created the graphics prematurely, when I was just at 122 books.

Jewelry I loved at NYCJAOS Autumn 2025

I have some exciting news: starting in 2026, there will be THREE JAOS events per year instead of two!

That’s right: the show is adding a winter JAOS event in January 2026!! The new winter show will be held in NYC just once, January 23-25 2026, but then it’s moving down to Miami.

The new JAOS event will be the same delightful mix of antique and vintage jewelry and contemporary designers that we know and love from past JAOS shows, with art objects and other vintage treasures on offer as well.

I had the pleasure of celebrating the exhibit with a night of fun at the Frazier: whiskey tastings, rounds of The Newlywed Game, free ring inspections and cleanings from local jewelry store Davis Jewelers, a panel discussion with jewelry experts (including yours truly), and a raffle for one attendee to win a $3,000 diamond necklace.

This dilemma was very real for me when Mr. DitL and I bought our new house a little while ago. Here’s what I did to keep my treasures safe in transit.

How to pack your jewelry when you have a LOT of jewelry

My jewelry collection has grown quite a bit in the decade since I last wrote about how to pack your jewelry for a move. If you love clean lines and breathtaking geometry, you’re going to want to make room on your wishlist for this one.

Lindley Gray’s modern Art Deco magic.

I first met Lindley Gray at a coffee shop in 2016. She wore the rings in the photo above and I can still vividly remember staring at her hand above the salted oat cookie on the table between us, mesmerized by the breathtaking precision of those three perfect diamond triangles.

Lindley Gray’s jewelry is characterized by minimalism and a mastery of subtle details.

I’m so relieved that it’s finally September. I’m not eager for cold weather, but it’s been an exceptionally hot summer in the DC area and it’s such a relief to step outside and feel cool breezes instead of a wall of soul-crushing humidity that makes me feel like I’m inside of a hot wet sponge.

This time of year always feels full of possibility to me – I don’t know if that’s a holdover from so many years of September first days of school as a child or because it’s suddenly bearable to be outside, but I find it invigorating.

I would probably trade a non-essential organ for this one.

The 110 carat Georgian diamond rivière of my dreams.

First things first: what is a rivière?

A rivière is an iconic style of necklace that features a continuous line of diamonds, set one after another like a river of precious stones (thus the name). I’d argue that the classic diamond tennis necklace is a modern reinterpretation of this design, a subset of the rivière.

The rivière is the little black dress of the necklace world, an infinitely versatile piece that can go with anything.

What is defiant jewelry, you may ask? Don’t worry – I’ll show you.

Defiant jewelry: talismans of strength.

When times get tough, jewelry can help – but sometimes the gentle comfort of pretty, sentimental pieces aren’t enough. On those days, you don’t want soft reassurance, you want a fierce focus to ground you in your rage, a touchstone to remind you that you’re a badass who won’t give up, a hero with a spine of steel who refuses to bow down to injustice.

Defiant jewelry is the answer. These talismans of strength connect you to your power and help you reach for the determination to carry on and keep fighting.
