Follow-up on Hitched Painting

On Facebook, I asked people if this vibrant, colorful painting below worked for them in terms of color – clearly I wasn’t sure if it did for me … but I fooled with it for a long time and wasn’t very satisfied with anything I did. So I asked for opinions and help. A few people spoke to the color contrast not really working for them – thank you for that feedback!!

So I decided to play around some more and invite you into my process and hopefully get some more feedback. I basically like the structure of the image! That can be seen in #2 below in the grayscale. Then I decided to work on just the blacks first and change them into a softer violet … what do you think … is that progress? After that, this time I decided to leave the whites alone and work just on the neutrals. The “neutrals” would be the grays that are part way between black and white. I made them into a color that is softer and also feels more “related” to the newer violet.

Do you think this works now? In my assessment, leaving the white alone helped give a resting spot to the image rather than cranking it up more and I think that makes it more pleasant for many to look at. I also think that having the neutrals color closer to the background makes it more peaceful. this is my current analysis anyway.

Two Things Challenge – Floor & Flimsy

I like to enter the 2 Things Challenge each week. This week is Floor / Flimsy. This is my vibrant, colorful painting of Floor & Flimsy. This took a lot of figuring out but then I realized we were doing our new patio out back … and so far the stone has been laid out but not the grout around them – so right now it is a very Flimsy Floor – we are hoping the neighborhood kids stay off it long enough for us to finish it. ps – this is a totally made up story – I wish we had that deck!!!
