Benefit Highbeam Dupe!

I've had my Benefit Highbeam for a while now and I cannot say more nice things about it since it has been my go to highlighter ever since I received this. BUTTTTTTT I received about two weeks ago the Shimering Facial Whip in Lilac Petal by E.L.F. from one of my follow blogger friends Faith, from Defining Faith. I haven't heard much about the Facial Whip products but I am so glad that Faith so kindly sent me it because I figured out that it was an exact dupe for Benefit's Highbeam!

They both had a similar texture and have the exact same finish on the skin. They difference is the smell and that in the packaging they are different. All on all if you are looking for a dupe for Highbeam and don't want to break the bank try the Facial Whip in Lilac Petal.

Back to School Necessities

School has started for some people and hasn't for others. I however started my third year of university two weeks ago and have been wanting to write a post on what are the school necessities. Some people like to wear a full face of makeup, others wear the minimal, and others wear nothing. This is just my take on what I think is school appropriate.

La escuela ha comenzado para algunas personas y para otros aun no a comenzado. Sin embargo yo empecé mi tercer año de universidad dos semanas atrás y desde ese entonces tenía ganas de escribir un post sobre lo que son las necesidades de belleza para la escuela. Algunas personas les gusta utilizar un maquillaje completo, otros usan lo mínimo y otros llevan nada. Esto es sólo mi opinión sobre lo que creo que es apropiada para la escuela.

Concealer is a must for those days where you're under eye bags are huge. I've been using the Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles (Brightener).
You can choose to wear foundation or wear nothing. I personally like to wear mineral foundation since its very light yet still covers up my imperfections. I like wearing the L'oreal True Match Naturale Gentle Mineral Makeup.
You're going to want to keep those eyebrows looking clean looking so you might want to invest in an eyebrow pencil. I've had a couple of pencils and currently I'm using the Maybelline Master Shape Brow Pencil.

The very first item of makeup I ever wore was eyeliner and I consider it a must have. The one I've been currently wearing is the Soft Kohl Kajal Liner Pencil from Rimmel.

A blush is also a must since it brightens up any look. I choose the Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blushes because they are very easy to use and all you need it your fingers to apply.
Now some people might go all out with lipsticks and lip stains, but I went with a simple lip balm since it is school and you don't want to look over done. My favorite lip balms are the EOS Lip Balm Smooth Sphere.

You can obviously add or take away products as you feel fit this was just what I think are the essentials for school. You can use this if you are in high school, college or even working, it is very versatile and would look good for whatever scenario as long as it's not prom, ha ha! Fall is creeping upon us soon and it's time for my 2012 Fall Nail Polish Trends post! Fall is usually characterized by dark colors that are unique in their own way. I went with the same idea but added some fun colors that still have the fall "vibe".

I actually received this baby in the mail from Anna from Going to the Showing, featured in my Nail Mail post. I Have a Herring Problem is a gorgeous blue with gray undertones that contains the finniest silver particles. This is a creme finish, which is one of my favorites since it tends to look cleaner. The formula is so wonderful; it goes on like butter! With two coats is very opaque and isn't at all streaky. The drying time is average since it is a creme finish, but it's nothing out of the ordinary. It retails for around $8.00 anywhere O.P.I. is sold.

One of my follow blogger friends Faith, from Defining Faith, actually sent me a surprise package with a bunch of goodies about a week ago and in that package she included the E.L.F. Golden Bronzer. I was so excited when I saw this because I've seen it on the E.L.F. website but never really thought about purchasing it.

Honestly I must say that I thought that it would be a bit darker than it actually turned out to be. I actually don't even use this for bronzer; I use it as a highlight. Since it is so light and has that shimmery quality to it, it makes it perfect for highlighting. I usually use it on my cheekbones and my cupids bow to give my face a little glow. I would recommend this for women or men who have darker skin since it has golden tones which suit darken skin tones perfectly. With this product you must remember this: A little bit goes a long way, if not you may end up looking like a disco ball. I really enjoy the product because even though it maybe didn't work out as a bronzer it turned out to be wonderful highlighter. You can purchase it at Kmart, Target, or on their website for $3.00. Also, the packaging is really nice it is also very similar to the Nars.

Soft Kohl Kajal Liner Pencil

If you've been keeping up with my blog you will know that I love the Soft Kohl Kajal Liner Pencil (Jet Black) by Rimmel for almost everything. I've used plenty different eyeliners in my day and up until now this has been one of my favorite, although I must say I don't think it's THE best. I first heard about this from a couple of YouTubers's so when I finished my L'oreal Infallible Pencial Eyeliner I purchased it and I am glad I did.

I mentioned that it wasn't the best because it isn't that pigmented and it doesn't include a smudger with it. Other than that I really enjoyed it. What's so great about this eyeliner is that it is a kohl pencil, which means it’s very creamy and easy to smudge. I use this almost daily using it to tight line and smudge on my upper lashes. It lasts the whole day on, which is one of the main reasons why I love it. You can intensify or tone down the color by layering some black or brown eye shadow on top which is what I do since it keeps the liner lasting longer as well. I think this is a really good everyday eyeliner since it leaves a soft defined look without looking over dramatic. It retails for around $4.29 anywhere Rimmel is sold.

NOTD- Harvest Moon

Today's nail of the day features Harvest Moon by China Glaze from their Hunger Games collection. Ever since I heard about the collection coming out I had always wanted to try some of them out since Hunger Games is one of my favorite book series (after Harry Potter) but I just never got to buying one. I finally stumbled on this one when I went to Sally's Beauty Supply and saw them on sale for $3.28! Harvest Moon represents District 9- Grain.

El "nail of the day" es Harvest Moon de China Glaze de su colección de los Hunger Games (represente al Districto 9- Grano). Desde que me enteré que iban a sacar la colección los quería probar ya que Hunger Games es una de mis series de libros favoritos (después de Harry Potter) pero nunca llegue a comprar uno. Finalmente me encontré con éste cuando fuí a Sally's Beauty Supply los vi a la venta por ¡$3.28!

Harvest Moon is a GORGEOUS copper/bronze color with a metallic (maybe even foil) finish. The highlights of the polish are that it isn't streaky, application is wonderful since it goes on very smoothly, and with 2 coats it's very opaque. Since it is has a metallic finish it tends to chip off faster, but this one held up pretty good. The only this I dislike is that it tends to leave a bumpy finish after a while; as you might see in the last picture. I thought maybe it was my topcoat so I used a different one but the same problem occurred. It retails for around $6.99 anywhere China Glaze is sold, unless you can find it on sale like I did ;)

Harvest Moon es un color cobre/broonce PRECIOSO con un acabado metálico (tal vez hasta puede ser un "foil"). Lo bueno del esmalte es que no es rayada, la aplicación es una maravilla y con 2 capas es muy opaca. Dado que tiene un acabado metálico tiende a descascararse más rápido pero éste se mantuvo bastante buen. Lo único que no me gusto es que tiende a dejar un acabado lleno de burbujas después de un tiempo, como se puede ver en la imagen anterior. Pensé que tal vez era el "topcoat" pero intente con otro pero se produjo el mismo problema. Se vende por alrededor de $6.99 en cual quier lugar donde venden productos de China Glaze, a menos que lo encuentra a la vente ;)

Today's post is on one of my favorite blushes, the BareMinerals All-Over Face Color in the shade Glee. I received this in one of Sephora's gift sets last Christmas and at first didn't know what it was for since it did say All-Over face Color, but it looked like it would be too dark for my who skin tone. La reseña de hoy es sobre uno de mis rubores favoritos, el BareMinerals All-Over Face Color en el tono Glee. Yo recibí esto en uno de los conjuntos de productos de Sephora en Navidad y al principio no sabía para qué era, ya que decía "All-Over Face Color", pero parecía que iba a ser demasiado oscuro para mi tono de piel. Más tarde me enteré de que es un iluminador mineral que deja un acabado luminoso en la piel.

This all-over face color is meant for just that, from your cheeks to your forehead, you name it but personally it's too dark for me to place all over. I use this as a blush on my cheekbones, which looks really pretty since it does have that luminosity to it. It is a soft, mauve plum color that is ideal for fall and winter, but I never really follow the guild lines too much. Although it does add luminosity it does not contain sparkle, but isn't matte either. Although it only contains .02 oz it has lasted me a very long time and has a lot of product left so even though the price might be a little shocking you are paying for what you are getting. The All-Over Face Color also has 7 other colors, 8 in total, to choose from with shades ranging from deep bronze to a light pink. This retails for around $19.00 and can be purchased wherever BareMinerals products are sold.

El "all-over face color" es para eso mismo, desde sus mejillas hasta su frente, lo que sea pero personalmente es demasiado oscuro para colocar por todo mi cara. Yo lo utilizo como un rubor en mis mejillas que se ve muy bonito ya que tiene esa luminosidad. Es un color suave, ciruela malva que es ideal para el otoño y el invierno pero y nunca a sido el tipo de persona de seguir las líneas del gremio. A pesar de que le añade luminosidad a su piel no contiene brillo pero tampoco es mate. A pesar de que sólo contiene .02 oz me ha durado mucho tiempo y aun tengo una gran cantidad de producto por lo que aunque el precio podría ser un poco chocante están pagando por lo que está recibiendo. El All-Over Face Color también tiene 7 tonos, 8 en total, para elegir con tonos que van desde el bronce oscuro a uno de color rosa claro. Benefit High Beam is a luminescent complexion enhancer or in other words a highlighter. What is a highlighter you might be asking? A highlighter is just like a highlighter you would use in school; you want to "high light" the facial features such as the bridge of the nose, the forehead, the top of the cheekbones, and even the Cupid's bow. Some people even mix them in their foundation to give the whole face a glow. Highlighters aren't harsh and aren't yellow or blue, don't worry, but are usually a shimmery pink or gold toned color. High Beam is a very popular highlighter and is recommended by a lot of gurus.

High Beam is a pink toned highlighter that has very fine micro glitter in it but doesn't give too much sparkle. This particular product suits best fair skin since the pink tone looks best on it (gold tones look best on darker skin tones). It applies very nicely and blends in beautifully and lasts a long time on the skin. Even though I has a sample size (4.0 mL) it has lasted me a long time because you only need a tiny amount since it goes a long way. I don't like to go overboard with this product either because since I have combo skin it could make me look greasy if I add too much. I would have to say the only downfall on the product is the price. It retails for roughly $26.00 for 13.0 mL which I think is very overpriced. You can purchase this at Sephora, Ulta, Benefit's website, or wherever Benefit is sold.

High Beam es un highlighter de tono rosa que tiene brillo bien fino en él que no da un brillo demasiado. Este producto en particular es mejor para tonos de piel claras ya que el tono de color de rosa se ve mejor en ella (tonos de oro se ven mejor en los tonos de piel más oscura). Se aplica muy bien, se mezcla muy bien en la piel y dura mucho tiempo. A pesar de que tengo un tamaño de muestra (4.0 mL) me ha durado mucho tiempo porque sólo necesita una pequeña cantidad ya que un poquito te da para mucho. No me gusta echarme mucho de este producto porque mi piel de tipo combinación que podría hacerme ver grasosa si añado demasiado. Tengo que decir que la única caída en el producto es el precio. Se vende por aproximadamente $26.00 por 13.0 mL que creo que es muy caro. Usted puede comprarlo en Sephora, Ulta, la pagína de web de Benefit o en todos los lugares donde se encuentra Benefit.

I must say that this is my favorite Nail of the Day because this has been my newest favorite nail polish thanks to the lovely Anna from Going to the Showing who sent me this in a nail swap. This is Sky High by Color Club from the Take Wing Summer 2012 collection and I have to say I love everything about the polish, formula and all.

I have to say I'm so pleased with the performance of the polish since it has a gorgeous color and payoff. The only thing was that with your first coat it can be streaky but with the second coat everything is perfect. It has a foil finish that in the bottle looks duo chrome (purple and turquoise) but it comes off on the nail as a dark turquoise. This color is just so darn unique I cannot even believe I own it! Every time I looked down at my nails I couldn't help but smile. If you can get your hands on this one don't let go!

No puedo explicar cuan contenta con el funcionamiento del esmalte ya que tiene un color precioso y la dura mucho. Lo único es que con su la primera capa sale rayada pero con la segunda capa queda perfecto. Tiene un acabado tipo "foil" (como si fuese aluminio) que en la botella se ve dúo cromo (violeta y turquesa) pero en la uña solo parece como una turquesa oscuro. ¡Este color es tan único que ni siquiera puedo creer que lo tenga! Cada vez que veo mis uñas no puedo dejar de sonreír. ¡Si usted puede conseguirlo no lo dejes ir!

My first Nail Mail!

I cannot begin to explain how excited I am today since yesterday I received my first nail polish swap! My first swap was with the lovely nail polish addict Anna from Going to the Showing. I was particularly interesting in nail Movie Premier and Sky High and I let her choose the other one so it could be a surprise needless to say I really loved it!

¡No puedo empezar a explicar lo emocionada que estoy ahora ya que ayer recibí mi primer intercambio de esmalte! Mi primer intercambio fue con la bella Anna, que también es una adicta a esmaltes como yo, de Going to the Showing. Yo estaba particularmente interesante en Movie Premier y Sky High y deje que ella elegiera el otro para que fuese una sorpresa, no hace falta decir que me encantó.

Now I have a couple of nude lipsticks but overall I find that the nude/pinks suit me best and plus, I use them more often than the others so I thought I would do this post before some of them are down to the stubs. As you can tell I like Rimmel Lipsticks a lot (their nude shades are my favorite), but I do have to say they have a scent that bothered me at the beginning, kind of like fruit loops. My favorite has to be Airy Fairy because it has a touch of pink without looking pink, catch my drift? Now the Estee Lauder lipstick lasts a long time and feels very moisturizing. It is more of a tan nude that just enhances my natural lip color which I love. I enjoy wearing these lipsticks usually with a clear or pink toned gloss over top to give it some dimension, such as NYX Mega Lip Gloss in French Kiss or any of the Victoria Secret Lip glosses. What's your favorite nude shade?

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain- Sweetheart

I have been loving my Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Sweetheart (025) since it is such a bold color that transfers the same way! Now I won't go into a lot of detail since I did an overall review about a week ago when I reviewed Cherish. I will say this though it is such a good product that I've been reaching for these more often than the Lipbutters :O .

A mi me he estado gustando mi Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain en Sweetheart (025) ya que es un color atrevido que transfiere de la misma manera. No voy a entrar en muchos detalles ya que hice una reseña en general la semana atrás, cuando revisé Cherish. Pero voy a decir esto, es un producto tan bueno que he estado utilizando esto más a menudo que el Lipbutters de Revlon :O.

This shade is a cool toned hot pink that really hydrates and perks up your face.

Es un tono "cool" rosa que realmente hidrata y anima su cara.

The staying power on this particular shade is awesome! Even after rubbing it off my lips with a towel it stains my lips. But without interfering with the product it will last about 2 hours until the balm wears off and stains for a good 5 hours. There are a variety of colors ranging from light to dark; all in all there are 12 shades. This retails for around $8.99 and can be purchased wherever Revlon products are sold.

Today's Nail of the Day features Ocean by Bettina from their Nature collection and Luxe and Lush by China Glaze from their Hunger Games collection. Ocean has been one of my favorite blues lately and I'm pretty sure it's because it's more of a summer color so I wanted to rock it but with a twist. The best part about this mani is that Luxe and Lush only cost me $3.29!

El "Nail of the Day" es Ocean de Bettina de su colección Nature y Luxe y Lush de China Glaze de su colección de Hunger Games. Ocean ha sido uno de mis azules favoritos últimamente y estoy bastante segura de que es porque es un color de verano así que quería ponérmelo pero con un toque diferente. ¡La mejor parte acerca de esta mani es que Luxe y Lush sólo me costó $3.29!

Just like all Bettina polishes it goes on opaque with 2 coats and isn't streaky at all. Now Luxe and Lush has to be my new favorite accent polish since it can spice any polish up. It has a cream finish and dry time is decent. Now you can't really tell so much in the pictures but check out Nail Polish Anon, she really captured the different shades. It really all depends on the color base you use. Example, if you use a black you will get a variety of different colors such as blue, green, and even red, but on softer colors the color range will be much subtle. All Bettina polishes retail for around $2.50 and China Glaze for around $6.49.

Al igual que todos los esmaltes de Bettina con dos capas es suficiente y no tiene una apariencia rayada. Tiene un acabado en crema y el tiempo de secado es decente. Ahora Luxe y Lush tiene que ser mi esmalte de utilizo como acento nueva favorita ya que puede darle vida a cualquier esmalte. Ahora realmente no se puede apreciar mucho en las fotos pero echa un vistazo a Nail Polish Anon, que realmente capturó a los diferentes tonos. En realidad, todo depende de la base de color que utiliza. Ejemplo, si usted utiliza un negro obtendrá una variedad de diferentes colores como azul, verde e incluso rojo, pero en colores más suaves de la gama de colores va a ser mucho más sutil. Todos esmaltes Bettina cuestan alrededor de $2.50 y China Glaze por alrededor de $6.49.

Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation

When it comes to foundation I am very picky; well who isn't? I have combination/oily skin so I need a foundation that doesn't leave a luminous finish and doesn't hydrate. I also like my foundation to be medium coverage maybe even a tad full. With that said my favorite foundation is Revlon's Colorstay (review coming soon) but a close runner up is Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation.

Cuando se trata de base yo soy muy exigente, ¿quien no? Mi piel es combinación/grasa, así que necesitan una base que no deja un acabado luminoso y no hidrata. También me gusta mi fundación para una cobertura media tal vez incluso un poco lleno. Con esto dicho mi fundación favorita es Colorstay de Revlon (revisión en breve), pero un corredor de cerca es Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation.

I really love this foundation since it is medium/full coverage and what I really love is that it leaves a matte finish but isn't totally flat. It covers my scars wonderfully and evens out my complexion. It lasts all day for me and I live in the Caribbean where the heat is very present. Now I've never wore any foundation for 25 hours, so I can't vow for that. It goes on flawlessly and it doesn't oxidize on me either. I've applied this with my fingers and its looks beautiful, but my favorite way to apply it is with my Flat Top Synthetic Kabuki brush (F80) from Sigma. It does have a scent that bothered me at first but after having worn it for awhile I got over it. It retails for around $7.49 wherever Rimmel is sold.

Me encanta esta base ya que tiene cobertura media/completa y lo que realmente me encanta es que deja un acabado mate, pero no plana. Cubre mis cicatrices maravillosamente e iguala mi cutis. Maybelline ExpertWear Eyeshadow Quad in Chai Latte (22Q) has been one of my favorite eye shadow palettes lately since it is the perfect quad for the daytime and nighttime. I've heard lots of YouTube guru’s rave of this and so I just had to try it.

I usual just use the base color for the all over lid shade and highlight and use the crease color in the crease for my daytime look. For the nighttime I usually go for what you see above where I incorporate all the colors. I like the palette since it is labeled for you so it is dummy proof, but I like to be creative and use the shades for different areas. For example, I use the liner shade for the crease to deepen it up a bit and I will bring the shades underneath my bottom lash as well. It has a mix of matte and shimmer shades which is great because it evens everything out. It retails for around $6.29 wherever Maybelline is sold.

Yo usualmente utilizo sólo el tono base y lo coloco sobre todo el pálpado y uso el tono de la cuenca para eso mismo para el uso diario. Por la noche usualmente tengo puesto el look que vio anteriormente donde incorporo todos los tonos. Today's Face of the Day is a look I wear very often since it's so easy to do and still looks good for when you go out at night. Since I didn't have a lot of time to get ready I went for my to go to look and added a bright pink lip to spice it up. BTW I was going to watch the movie Ted, which was so and so for me.

I did the mix of the Garnier Frutis B.B. Cream (Light/Medium) and Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation in True Nude (303) to give my skin a luminous glow without having to use highlighter. Also my bottom lashes have the darkest brown and the bronze from the Maybelline ExpertWear Eyeshadow Quad in Chai Latte, with a little of Sin in the inner corners of my eye.

Beach Smart and SwimSpot Giveaway!

Since it is summer in most places in the world I thought this would be a perfect time to write a post on what are my beach essentials. Now I know most people take either very little (just a towel and their swimsuit) or take way too much, but I have always been a person who takes a couple of items that won't weigh me down but is just enough.

Ahora sé que la mayoría de la gente lleva muy poco (sólo una toalla y su traje de baño) o llevan demasiado, pero siempre he sido una persona que toma un par de cosas que no me pesan pero son lo suficiente.

You should always be hydrated! I usually take a little cooler with a bottle of water, aloe Vera to keep cool, and maybe a soda or two. This is very important since you will be sweating and be exposed to the sun.

¡Usted siempre debe estar hidratada! Yo usualmente traigo una botella de agua, aloe vera para mantener la calma y a lo mejor un refresco o dos. Esto es muy importante ya que va a sudar y estar expuesto al sol.

SUNBLOCK, SUNBLOCK, and more SUNBLOCK! Now with everything that is happening with our environment (especially the ozone) it is a must that you wear some sunblock. Now it really doesn't matter what brand it is but as long as it's at least 30SPF and up you should be fine. This will prevent wrinkles, sunspots, cancer, etc. in the future.

¡BLOQUEADOR SOLAR, BLOQUEADOR SOLAR, y más BLOQUEADOR SOLAR! Ahora, con todo lo que está pasando con nuestro medio ambiente (especialmente la capa de ozono) es un deber usar algún protector solar. Ahora bien, realmente no importa qué marca es, pero siempre y cuando es por lo menos 30SPF. Esto evitará las arrugas, manchas solares, cáncer, etc. en el futuro.

A towel is a must, I also like to bring some leave in conditioner just so my ends won't be so damaged by the sun, some hand sanitizer, and of course a lip balm (my favorite EOS in sweet mint).

Lóreal Voluminous Carbon Black has to be my Holy Grail mascara since I've been in love with this for the past two years and I always go back to it. After hearing so much about it I had to pick it up and as I thought I loved it. It makes your lashes "carbon black" and lengthens and gives your lashes so much volume.

The bottom line is that you NEED this in your makeup collection since this is just such a great mascara, no ifs or buts! It is Ophthalmologist and allergy-tested, suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers, and is fragrance-free. It retails for around $7.99 wherever Lóreal is sold.

NOTD- Aruba Blue and Giveaway Winner!

Today's nail of the day features Essie's Aruba Blue which is a gorgeous blue with a shimmer finish. I received this as a birthday gift from my best friend Elvira, who also has a cooking blog: First, Dessert: A Baker's Corner. The color of this polish is incredible to say the least; it's such a beautiful royal/sapphire blue.

El "nail of the day" es Aruba Blue de Essie que es un azul bello con un acabado de brillo. Lo recibí como un regalo de cumpleaños de mi mejor amiga Elvira, que también tiene un blog de cocina: First, Dessert: A Baker's Corner. El color de este esmalte es increíble, es un hermoso azul royal /zafiro.

The down fail to this polish is the wear. Now I would have to say that in general Essie polishes aren't my favorite just because they chip so easily on me. But if you have no problems with Essie wear time well I would have to say that you NEED this in your collection. I wore this on some of my fingers for the Fourth of July and it was the perfect American blue. It applies well, isn't streaky, and is opaque in two coats just like most of Essie's polishes. The only other thing I dislike about Essie is the price since it is a whopping $8.00 a bottle so that's why I never buy them, but if I receive them I'll use.

Lo malo de este esmalte es el tiempo de duración. Tengo que decir que en general los esmaltes de Essie no es mi favorito sólo porque se descascaran tan fácilmente. Pero si usted no tiene esta problema con Essie, tendría que decirle que usted NECESITA esto en su colección. Para el cuatro de julio tenia este esmalte puesto en algunos de mis dedos y fue el azul americano perfecto. Aplica bien, no es rayada y es opaco con dos capas al igual que la mayoría de los esmaltes de Essie. La única otra cosa que no me gusta de Essie es el precio ya que cuesta $8.00 una botella es por eso no los compro pero si me los regalan pues ahí si los utilizo.

Happy delayed 4th of July! Yesterday I spent the day at my house with some family eating some homemade barbecue made by my father. Since I was just at my house I didn't go all out, just something casual, but yet at the same time screamed Fourth of July. I opted for a casual dress, some old sneakers, and some knock off Ray Bans.
