Thank you Stephen Griffith and Pete’s Produce Farm for a wonderful afternoon.

TCS’s 20th Annual TCS Golf Outing fundraiser was held on Tuesday, September 13, 2021. Our annual fundraiser was held at the beautiful Glen Mills Golf Course in Glen Mills, PA. The weather was gorgeous—it was a beautiful sunny day. All TCS staff participated by helping the golfers in various capacities.

We would like to thank Mike Bilotta, Tom Graziano, Herman Goldner, Herman J Goldner. Without them this event would not have been possible. We would also like to thank Trane Technologies and Advanced Specialty Insulation for being sponsors. An extra thank you to Herman Goldner of Herman Goldner Co., Inc., who always makes this a memorable day!

Golfers started off their morning registering for the event and enjoying lunch before heading out onto the course. Each golfer was also presented with a gift from Adidas for participating in the tournament. The tournament was set up as a scramble. All attendees then gathered at Thornbury Farm CSA, on Thornbury Road, near the intersection of Rt. 926 and South New Street in Thornbury Township, where the winners were announced for the golf tournament, trophies were given to the numerous corporate sponsors, and a delicious dinner was enjoyed.

The teachers, staff, and students would like to thank all who participated and helped make this day possible!

Shannon Tilmon has been a high school science teacher at The Concept School since September, 2001. She graduated from Ursuline Academy High School in Wilmington, Delaware, and earned a B.S. and an M.S. in Animal Science from the University of Delaware. Over the years at TCS, Ms. Tilmon has taught Biology, Environmental Science, Anatomy and Physiology, Physical Science, Astronomy, Chemistry, and Geology, as well as electives such as Natural History of Birds, Entomology, Zoology, Botany, Myths and Constellations, and Classic Film. She is a member of the National Honor Society and serves on TCS’s NHS committee. She also enjoys helping with the props with the stage crew in the school’s play productions.

During the summers, Ms. Tilmon teaches summer camp with the Delaware Nature Society, both at their Ashland Nature Center and at Coverdale Farm in Hockessin, Delaware. In her spare time, she enjoys canoeing, bird watching, going for walks outdoors, doing yo-yo tricks, playing the piano, listening to old music, watching old movies and TV shows, and spending time with her family. Ms. Tilmon loves teaching at The Concept School – it is a special place that catches lightning in a bottle, for kids and teachers alike, and she is very happy to be a part of that.

TCS Spring play production of “Murder on the Orient Express” was a huge hit. The cast performed the famous, and possibly everyone’s favorite work by Agatha Christie on Thursday, June, 2, 2022, which was directed by Mrs. Meghan Wright, Mrs. Laura Griffith, and Mrs. Mary Culler. The cast was part of a theater class for this semester, where they learned about Agatha Christie; saw an online production of the story; and learned about the genre. Some of the students even learned different accents for the part. The stunning sets were created in Ms. Riggio’s Art class.

This year’s theme was “Debate and Diplomacy in History.” Students either created a trifold board for the topic they chose, or they created a slideshow. Students dressed up to look professional. They presented their board or topic to other students, faculty, parents, and invited guests. Three high school students and two middle school students move on to the regional competition in West Chester.

The Shakespeare Play is always a highlight of the school year. In just a short period of time, the students learn their lines, make the props, and complete everything else that is required to produce a play. The students all did an excellent job! Due to Covid-19 concerns it was streamed on YouTube, as well.
