Acrylic on Ostrich Egg

I painted and donated an Ostrich egg for a fundraiser, Eggstrodinary Evening for Alzheihimer's. It is mirror images, a front and back, of a cell.

The "Eggsstraordinary Evening features ostrich and emu eggs handcrafted and donated by local artists. The eggs will be in a silent auction Friday, April 1st from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

A yummy, and healthy, addition to any breakfast. I've been making this for so long I've forgotten where I got the recipe from. Really, I don't even follow a recipe anymore. I just throw a little of this and that with some Spirulina. The green algae is what makes the smoothie, well green, and packs a huge nutritional punch.

Enjoy!

I created this painting as a donation for America Scores of Denver. Artists were asked to create unique pieces inspired by Denver Public School students' poetry. I chose the following poem:

I Wish Poem
I wish my mom didn’t leave me because I miss her.
I wish I could get my mom and dad back together.
I wish I can learn about my mom

This recipe is not healthy, but it's tasty and easy to make. I can't believe I'm confessing to eating this last night after I just finished watching Food Matters. Which I recommend you check out this amazing and informative documentary if you haven't already seen it. It reminded me why eating healthy, even a raw diet is so important. Nothing about last nights meal was raw. Ahhh...

The 65 Roses fundraiser is hosted by Independence Gallery with Billie Colson at the helm. Billie and other artists have donated their original art. All the pieces have a rose theme (although my painting took a departure with a flower motif). Each art work starts at $27 and 100% of the proceeds benefit Cystic Fibrosis research. I stopped in

In December Engaging Loveland put on "Sculpture in the Dark" where five teams worked to create snow sculptures.  The warm weather and Colorado sun made it challenging conditions for the snow sculptors. In the end, some amazing sculptures were created only to be torn down for business to occur as normal on Monday.

The spot on the plate that's usually reserved for steak is replaced with odd (but super tasty especially if your raised on this stuff) loaf and meat substitutes. One of my

Yesterday I received a email from my mother-in-law, Trudy, it's a request for triplets' diapers. She writes:
"Dear Friends and Family,

Some weeks ago as Andrew and I were leaving his doctor's office I met a nice lady toting 3 beautiful identical triplet girls - quite a handful !  I admired them as we walked by but as I was climbing into the car I was impressed to go

The more I learn about genetic factors and cancer, well, it scares me. I don't eat near enough fruit and veggies as I should. Here's a link that gives some brief info about pancreatic cancer (what my dad died from) and prevention tips.

I started this painting 5 years ago, never liked it, and hid it behind other paintings. I decided to play with it and resolve my issues with it. It's probably bigger than just an aesthetic reason. But that's a topic for another day.

The photo above is when I delved back into it a couple weeks ago.

Cancer Cell No. 19, Acrylic on Canvas with Crochet Circles and String, 10 x 10 inches
I've always like the idea and look of combining sewing with paint. Since canvas is material it seems like a perfect marriage. This painting is an attempt at combining both mediums. Thoughts, opinions, and critiques are always welcome. Leave your comments below...

Time Flies, 10 x 12", Acrylic on Canvas by A. Canada Hopkins
Little to do with Halloween, this day is really a celebration--celebrating a life lived. There are lively festivals, colorful parades, and fun parties. Family and friends gather at the grave with offerings in remembrance and a belief that the soul of the loved-one can be communicated with.

The Day of the Dead originates in Mexico.
