COMMERCIAL: JAZZ PACKING

This Honda Jazz commercial is one of the funniest things I've seen in a while. It may be a little bit on the long side ( I'm guessing this wouldn't run on TV) but its so well done that I didn't mind it. The references in this are absolutely golden (Murakami! Fixies! Panda Hats!)

The closing of the world cup has left a void in my life.

I wake up in the morning and wonder "Why even get up today, there aren't any world cup games today. You won't get to yell at a TV/Computer Screen/Projector Screen when someone slidetackles foreign man-candy, nor will you have the perfect conversation starter with strangers, most of all you won't get to hear the beautifully incessant sound of the Vuvuzela"

I have a feeling that Tanlines may be feeling the same way. They took the time to remix "Real Life",a song that i've had on constant repeat for months, with vuvuzelas. The funny thing is, it sorta works.

One of my favorite memories from my trip to Sweden involves a gigantic, two story, Boston themed pub packed to the brim with England fans, about 12 Americans ( including me) and the US v. England world cup match. Its the only time during my travels that I made it a point to be the ostentatious American, and one of many times that I lamented the US' lack of "rousing soccer fight songs."

Actually, I've spent quite a bit of time watching the world cup while I was in Sweden, and hunched over my computer screen since getting back (I've yet to connect the cable in my apartment, which doesn't matter because my TV is currently in a friend's basement.) Which is why I think this video extolling the classical origins of the Vuvuzela is hilariously interesting, and I can't quite figure out if its a spoof of some sort.

CONSTANT FLUX

In the span of a week I have

flown from Gotenburg to Amsterdam
almost missed my flight from Amsterdam to New York because it was leaving earlier and we didn't know about it
Avoided a 12 hour layover at JFK by hitting up (the not so dirty) Jersey with Joe
Got driven back from Jersey to Massachusetts, hit more traffic than I thought was humanly possible
Drove to Providence to sign my lease, get my keys and see my apartment for the third time ever so I could buy furniture
Rented a big ol' 10ft moving truck, , drove for the first time in about 6 months in a vehicle that might flatten a sedan if i sneezed too violently
Took gracious donations of furniture from my sisters house in Worcester, MA and loaded them into the moving truck
Went to Ikea by myself. If that doesn't say independent woman, I don't know what does. Was forced to use my girlish charms to convince the workers to load the furniture into my truck, there may have been a bend -and -snap involved..
Drove back to Providence and moved all the large pieces of furniture into the apartment far too late at night
Drove the truck down the narrow streets of Providence to retrieve all of my stuff from Sierra's un-air conditioned basement by myself , then move it into my apartment on an 87 degree day. Pushing myself to a level of sweatiness/borderline heat stroke that forced me to lay still on my carpet for about an hour and a half
Drove the truck back to Worcester
Got driven back to Providence

I've lost all concept of date and time

SWEDISH FISHING:REFLECTION PIECES

I'm back on American soil and slowly readjusting to something reminiscent of a normal life, or at least reacquainting myself with the concept of normalcy. My actual bloggging patterns fell short of my goals during my time in Sweden, but I still have plenty to share.

So look out for some retroactive reflection Swedish Fish posts with plenty of pictures stolen from my friends who had better cameras, janky ones from my iphone , hopefully a few interesting ones if the rolls of lomography actionsampler film i have turns out, fawning over my borderline excessive clothing purchases, and a few stories to top everything off.

I'll start it out with some of the more interesting remnants of my time in Sweden that were in my wallet, some Swedish Kronor and a card from the restaurant that served what was definitely the best meal I had in Sweden and probably one of the best meals I've had in my life.

At this point, i think the only thing that is keeping me tied to reality is the fact that I haven't changed the date to timezone settings on my computer. Things are going so well that every now and then I have to remind myself that this isn't a dream.

Disgustingly cliche and my" inventive copywriter who likes to turn a phrase" genes cringed as that last phrase flowed from the keyboard to the screen, but I never imagined I'd be in Stockholm, working on a campaign for Ikea, while the creative director of the entire company is walking around the building.

From the rooms that I find myself seeking out the most clandestine corners to write in, to the faculty and other students- everything about Berghs makes me feel comfortable and inspired enough to create. The only dose of reality comes from how much we have to get done in so little time.

The funny this is that I've had the realization that my life is bound to be a collection of late nights and rushed deadlines, and I'm okay with that.

Loving the brand identity and packaging of this potato chip company, out of England. The characters have a dapper Fantastic Mr. Fox feel, and the flavors are making me a little bit hungry (especially the salt and balsamic vinegar.)

SWEDISH FISHING: SUSTAINABLE INSPIRATION

Studying at Bergh's school of communication has been the most professionally inspiring experience of my life. I know I have been using that word pretty often lately in regards to Berghs, but its not inspiration in the traditional sense. Its inspiration in the sense that it challenges my preconceptions of how I see myself fitting into the millions of micro-industries ( is that a word? hm, seems close enough) that exist within advertising. It has been the catalyst for me to seriously consider finding a way to study digital media in the very near future.

I can't really expand upon that point because it gets into my future anxiety. Fuxiety, i like to call it ( i'm all about making up words today) that stems from only being about two weeks into realizing/deciding that I have one year left in college instead of two.

I had the honor of being able to see the graduation exhibition of the Berghs students. It was titled "A Sustainable Plan" and instead of presenting a whole bunch of projects about being "green", each student took a different approach to the theme based on the client that they were assigned. Here are a few pictures, they're a little blurry because they are all from my iphone but hopefully you can get an idea of how great it was

So much has happened in the last few days and with that I've gotten far too little sleep. I'd planned to do a full update but failed to do so this morning, and this evening. Or at least it seems like evening because the sun just went down, but its almost 10 PM. Oh Swedish time, you are a productivity squashing fiend.
