A Marriage Like Ours (Jane)

I'm generally a pretty private person when it comes to personal struggles, maybe I don't like to reveal my flaws. I know everyone faces challenges at some point in their lives and sometimes it makes them a better person, I believe this is the case for me. My struggle has caused me to re-evaluate myself and put forth the effort to make necessary changes in myself to be a better person.

We recently got a message from a follower of our HotPics blog which inspired me to share my story. The message was "Have I told you how much I hope to have a marriage like yours". This was the best kind of compliment and exactly what I needed to hear right now. We do have a marriage to be envied, today I can say that with confidence but I'm not sure I would have said that 6 months ago.

Marriage is an amazing union. It is incredible to know, and be known, by someone so intimately. It is an indescribable feeling to be connected with someone in such a way that the world just seems right when you are together. But marriage, no matter how perfect the couple may be for each other, takes work. I don't care who you are or how long you've been together, marriage is a living breathing thing that requires, nourishment and attention. I think all marriages go through hard times and sadly more than 50% of couples just give up.

I believe it's hard times that make a marriage stronger and Dick and I have had some hard times lately. Somewhere along the way I forgot the importance of cultivating our bond which resulted in a large gap between us. Sadly, it took something fairly drastic for me to re-open my eyes and see the incredibly amazing man who loves me inside out like no one ever has before, that there is so much passion in his love for me and so much love to give.

We have been working through our issues together and our bond has become stronger than ever, our passion embarrassing our teenage children daily. We have a renewed desire for each other both physically and emotionally that amazes me everyday. I can't get enough.

I share all of this because I believe others might benefit from my learning experience. Never assume your partner knows how you feel about them, show them in some small way every single day; in the passionate kiss on the way out the door, the kind gesture, or the simple touch.

I love you Dick, you are still my dream come true.

Thirteen Is Our Get Lucky Number

We've had sex every day in 2013! If today were January 3rd you might just roll your eyes at that statement... but note this post is dated February 3rd. Now we're talking!

Three years ago, Dick wrote about The 30 Day Sex Challenge, an exercise for couples to reconnect and find creative ways to work sex back into their routines. At the time, we had tried and failed the challenge twice and we didn't make it through that last round either. We don't remember why... it is just more difficult than we imagined it would be. Kids living in our midst raise the challenge level to expert.

We are happy to report that we just played another round and found success! In fact, we have no plan to stop the daily fun anytime soon, some days it's even twice! We found a rhythm and we're really groovin' now, baby!

Each of us has our own perspective on the last month and what it has meant for our self and our relationship. Here is what we took away, each of us relating in our own words.

The 30 day challenge wasn't exactly planned this go round, we were half way through January and had coincidentally been having sex every day so I said to Dick, "I think we can do the 30 day challenge this time". We set our sites to just do it and do it we did (every single day)! 	Our new bedroom furniture started as an aquarium stand from PetSmart. Typical bed end tables were of undesirable height and depth and this piece is rock solid, made to support hundreds of pounds.
	I purchased cam locks from the local hardware store to install on the doors of our new cabinet. I purchased three locks so was careful to ensure their key numbers match, allowing me to use a single key on all doors.
	Measure twice and cut once... a hole saw was used to drill holes for the cam locks, one in each door. The cam lock package told me what size hole to cut.
	The cam lock is a simple mechanism which swings an aluminum plate in a circular direction, I was careful to mount it so that it turns in the direction desired, this was be dictated by the side the door is hinged on.
	Zinc coated aluminum mending plates were used to create a jam for the cam lock arm. I purchased a few packages of these so that I could stack the plates to the depth needed.
	Using the screws provided, I fastened a short stack of mending plates to the inside top of each door opening. The thickness is adjustable by adding more plates, so if I had cut my cam lock hole a little low, I could have added more mending plates.
	We put our new bedroom furniture at the end of our bed and parked a TV with built-in DVD player on top of it. This permits us to watch TV in bed... or to watch adult DVD's which are locked in the cabinet beneath.
	Viewed from the bed, our new setup looks like this. Note there is plenty of space on top of the furniture for wallets, books, and other clutter.
	I have one key which easily opens all three doors to reveal their very adult oriented content. The key is hidden in our room to make access quick and simple.
	A storage bag from The Container Store holds odd sized items like double ended dildos, wigs, harnesses, magic wand, and my Fleshlight.
	Clear plastic drawers, also from The Container Store, neatly organize many of our toys by type and/or material. It's a bit anal... but then so are many of our toys.
	Books, DVD's, and games fit nicely in the last compartment, rounding off our collection of adult oriented products and toys.
	The amount of storage space provided is adequate to house all our favorites and we feel good knowing that kids and house sitters won't be nosing around in our private goodies.

One thing I have thought about doing, but have not done yet, is to install a power strip inside one of the compartments so that our rechargeable toys can remain plugged in and charged up. This would only require a small hole cut in the back of the unit and (optionally) mounting the power-strip to the side or top of the compartment. That is an upgrade worth doing.

We make an annual trek to our family's vacation home which sits on a 40 acre lot of oak forest. It's a 4000 ft² house with a huge covered deck overlooking rolling hills of wilderness as far as you can see. We love it there!

Mid-Week Escape to the Mountains - Part 2 (Dick)

Dear Ian and Alicia – Back in the summer of 2007, Jane and I went through a sexual upswing (mostly due to Jane’s rediscovery of her libido), we opened to each other in ways we had not previously, and our relationship walked through a new door. There was a small handful of podcasts and websites that were central to the dialogues which brought new light to our marriage back then... and freddyandeddy.com was one of them.

We read your site, we bought products from your store, and Jane was very inspired by each of your personal stories. So inspired, that she registered a domain name (dick-n-jane.com) and told me to get to work on a website, she wanted to be like you!

A year later I finally got around to it and we debuted the site in August of 2008. Since then we’ve grown a bit and are among the more popular personal sex blogs online which, in our corner of the Internet, is not bad for a long-term monogamous couple! We even have our own “store” which is really just an affiliate outlet.

I’m not sure what took so long, but I just found you two on Facebook and it reminded me that I owe you both a debt of gratitude. We have a more vibrant sex life than we used to, we have a fun outlet for sexy dialogue, and a little extra income... thanks to the inspiring stories you chose to openly share with your readers.
