"If I could run the NFL, I'd take away these $80 (million) to $90 million contracts these young guys get," he said, spitting out the words as he spoke. "Unfortunately in the NFL these guys are making money, but they aren’t giving back. That left a bad taste in my mouth when I played -- the self-righteousness of these guys. They have this feeling of entitlement.
"You know, it's just a game."
That he was driving to his old college town where he would run in a race for his old Arizona State teammate, Pat Tillman, who walked away from a lucrative NFL life to give his in a mountain pass in Afghanistan made the irony all too clear.
As another one-time Tillman teammate, Zach Walz would later say:
"Pat never cared about the money."
Friday marks seven years since Tillman was killed in Afghanistan and nothing has changed, even if everything has changed. The official military announcement that he died in an ambush has proven a piece of grievous fiction replaced by a more unsettling truth that he was in fact killed by friendly fire. The wars in the Middle East that he so valiantly volunteered to fight have lost the attention of many people back home -- white noise to an impatient country that has already changed the channel. His name is a pawn now: Equally used by those who believe in the wars and those who despise them.
A book has been written, a movie made. His life has been cut open and dissected, all his complexities and contradictions parsed and yet in a world where heroes prove as cheap as the wind that blows through their paper-thin facades, Tillman remains as revered as the day he died.
After everything that happened he still matters.

Last weekend they ran the race they always do in Pat Tillman's name at Arizona State. They call it Pat's Run. And this time 28,000 people showed up at the school's Sun Devil Stadium to run the 4.2 mile race for the player who wore No. 42 there as an ASU linebacker. They made the loop across the Rio Salado, over the 202 highway and back down into the stadium finishing on the 42-yard line because the money raised for the Pat Tillman Foundation goes for college scholarships for returning soldiers, because this seems right and because as one runner, Jason Blakley, of Phoenix said: "Gosh, how many people walk away from a pro football contract?"
"To me, it's not how he died, it's how he lived," says Doug Tammaro, who is a sports information director at Arizona State and an organizer of Pat's Run.
Tammaro, in his role as a public relations man for the athletic department, deals with athletes in a way few ever see. He's the one who must endure private temper tantrums, beg kids to visit a hospital or talk to a fan who is just dying to meet them. He's the one who knows which men are genuinely kind and giving and which ones just put on a smile for the cameras. Tillman he loved. Tillman was real.
He thinks often about the last night he saw Tillman. It was in Seattle not long before the Tillman's death. ASU was playing a basketball game at the University of Washington, and Tillman was based about an hour away, outside Tacoma. Tillman had been up all night as part of his training, he was tired, but still he made the trip with his wife and brother to see the PR man he considered a friend. This was Pat, he said.
"There were probably 1,000 other people who wanted to spend time with him," Tammaro recalled. "But he gave to everyone."
And last Saturday when he looked at the throng gathering outside Sun Devil Stadium, Tammaro smiled. There were so many children running through the parking lot, children with T-shirts bearing the No. 42 and as he watched them all he could think was how they were barely alive when Tillman was killed and how at some point their parents would have to explain why they were at this race and what his life meant. And that made Tammaro smile.
"He was just very respectful of everyone he met," Tammaro said. "You judge a person on how they treat people who can't help you in return."
It's easy when people die to only see the good. This is especially true when the dead person is young and seemingly selfless like Tillman, who by all accounts, was so moved by September 11, 2001 -- watching the attacks and the World Trade Center collapse at the Cardinals headquarters -- that he quit football less than a year later to join the Army.

It is likewise probably unfair to juxtapose Tillman's sacrifice against the current NFL lockout. He would have been 34 now and had he returned from the war he might have come back to football and still be playing. Regardless of his feelings about the labor dispute he would have been forced to sit out like everyone else.
But everyone who knows him has said the same thing. He would have been impatient with the posturing. Tillman was terribly organized, Tammaro said and not one to suffer inactivity well.
"The decisions he made in life, not one was about money," Walz said. "He would be: 'Just let’s get this crap done, we're entertainers.'"
And the image of a player who turned down a $9 million contract with the Rams to stay with the Cardinals, who had taken a chance on him with the 226th pick in the 1998 draft, is too hard to ignore these days. So too is the fact he never came close to making that $9 million by staying in Arizona and threw away unknown millions by going to war.
Walz remembered how Tillman, early in his career with the Cardinals, rode a bicycle around Tempe for a season. When he finally got a car it was a used Volvo, which he drove with flip-flop covered feet dangling out the window.
"I don't think people focus on the war with Pat, they focus on what he represented," Waltz said. "He represented putting aside materialistic things that drive people today."
And as the lockout drags on into yet another week isn't that a lesson we could all stand to hear?

Baseball fans knew that Sweet Lou was retiring at the end of the season, bringing to an end one of the most illustrious careers in recent baseball history. However, when Lou Piniella announced that he would be calling it quits as the Chicago Cubs manager after Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Braves instead it was quite a surprise.

In a statement issued before the game Piniella said “When I previously announced my intentions to retire at the end of the season, a primary reason for my decision was that it would allow me to spend more valuable time with my family. That time has unfortunately gotten here sooner than I could have ever expected.” Lou’s mother has been ill for some time and he has already taken two leaves of absence from the club this season to be at home.

The Cubs quickly named third base coach Mike Quade Piniella’s successor and he will officially take the reins on Monday against the Washington Nationals.

Just across town rival Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen told ESPN the news of his Windy City counterpart’s early retirement was a shock.

“I think this man is a very, very, very [good] baseball man. When you’re going to talk about baseball, Lou’s name is out there. But I don’t blame him,” Guillen said. “Sometimes enough is enough, especially when you expect a lot from the ballclub from the beginning of spring training and all of the sudden everything is wrong. It’s not easy.”

Indeed things are not so peachy in Cubs land this season. With a new owner at helm this season the club lies 20½ games behind the Cincinnati Reds in the NL Central and going into Sunday’s game they had dropped seven out of their last ten games.

Piniella made five trips to the World Series in his career and has three championship rings. A right-handed outfielder, he was the AL Rookie of the Year in 1969 after batting .282 with 11 homers and 68 RBIs with the Royals. He was traded to the Yankees in 1973 and ended his playing career with New York in 1984 after eleven years in the Bronx.

As a manager he will leave quite a legacy too. He began managing in 1986 with the Yankees and lasted three years, including a short stint as general manager. He managed the Cincinnati Reds from 1990-92, leading them to a World Series championship in his first season in charge.

After the Reds he headed to Seattle. He never did quite manage to get the Mariners to the World Series but in 2001 the team did end the season with a 116-46 record, but they lost the ALCS to Sweet Lou’s former team the Yankees.

iPhone Death Grip is an Apple mobile mystery.

iPhone Death Grip is big problem when you disrupt mobile connections. This happens for some people on the Apple iPhone 4 when handling the metal band with a tight grip. Some iPhone 4 users are even posting videos of this problem.

If you wrap your hand around the iPhone 4, the cellular Internet strength visibly drops. You can actually see the bars disappearing. Apple believes that it's a problem with the antenna.

However, most iPhone users are unable to reproduce this problem. Several iPhone 4 users made videos showing their hand wrapped around the cell phone and the unit still maintained internet strength. The signal was still strong on the mobile unit.

Death Grip is only happening to some people, which is a bigger mystery. If you do experience the iPhone 4 glitch, one easy way to eliminate it is to put the phone in a case. Even a "bumper" solves the problem. It's a thin rubbery silicon band, available in a range of colors, that covers the metal edge entirely for only $30.

I lost my brother 20 years ago and even though it made me feel lost, I never stopped going forward.

I enjoy watching UFC and tonights fight was a truely inspirational story.

Court McGee died, clinically, in 2005. Five years later, he is vying to become "The Ultimate Fighter."(on June 19th 2010 he earned a six figure contract)

Born in Layton, UT, McGee was introduced to the elements of mixed martial arts at a young age, enrolling in pee wee wrestling and shintoshi karate in the 1st grade. Jiu jitsu replaced karate in his training when he reached high school and he graduated from Layton High School in 2003 after having wrestled on the varsity team for six years, making All-State twice.

McGee enrolled in Weber State University and wrestled there for a year before the program was dissolved. The dissolution of the program caused McGee to drop out of college and, after breaking his collarbone in an accident, he developed an addiction to pain killers.

Pain killers led to alcohol abuse.

Alcohol led to cocaine abuse.

Cocaine led to heroin addiction.

Heroin addiction led to, in 2005, doctors pronouncing McGee clinically dead due to an overdose. Doctors were able to give him a pulse and a fighting chance and, after emerging from a 6 day coma, he went through an extensive physical rehab program, relearning basic motor skills such as walking. Wrestling, karate and jiu jitsu were a pipe dream at the time.

McGee's fighting spirit, though, would not be denied. After completing his rehabilitation for chemical dependency program, he started to train MMA full time. Training with Throwdown MMA in Orem, UT, McGee currently boasts a 9-1 record, including a win over "The Ultimate Fighter: United States vs. United Kingdom" runner-up DaMarques Johnson in 2007 by submission.

And on June 19th he became season 11 Ultimate Fighter Champion.

CONGRATULATIONS McGee you are truly inspirational!

Power and Associates" />

'Made in America' Means Something Again

If there were any doubts about reports that the American auto industry is on the mend, they were laid to rest today with the release of J.D. Power and Associates' 2010 Initial Quality Study (IQS). Domestic brands, as a whole, demonstrated higher initial quality than the imports for the first time in the study's 24-year history. And, not surprisingly, Ford Motor Co. led the reformation.

Even before the Big Three went to Washington with their hats in hand back in the fall of 2008, Ford had been making sound decisions about the direction of the business. One of the pivotal moves it made was hiring Alan Mulally, the automaker's current CEO, from Boeing. By focusing on the company's balance sheet and leveraging its assets, Mulally was able to cut costs, put money in the bank and avoid taking government bailout money, unlike the other two big American automakers. While this endeared the brand to a financially strapped American public, it also gave Mulally the money needed to aggressively restructure the company and, more importantly, develop better automobiles.

It was a gamble, for sure, but one that has paid off in spades, as the Blue Oval is now the highest-ranked mass-market automaker in initial quality. It also jumped into the list of top five brands in overall quality for the first time ever, and has 12 models that rank within the top three in their respective IQS segments — more than any other carmaker in the study — including capturing top honors in three segments with the Focus, Mustang and Taurus.

General Motors (often called "Government Motors" these days) also did well, with 10 models that rank within the top three in their segments. Chrysler didn't fare as well.

This is in sharp contrast to last year's results, when much of the discussion about automotive quality centered on the difficulties U.S. automakers were facing, and the perceptions that these problems were largely caused by poor product quality.
Here is what I propose, I read that with all the money they have given out to bail out failing companies equals to $36,000 to every man, woman and child in the U.S. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT? Just think if they gave everyone $36,000 what would happen.

1. Pay a little to my mortgage company (helping banks and mortgage lenders)
2. Hell, evening flying to Vegas to double that (helping out the airline and hotel industry)

How is that so bad to give me money? WAIT, that's my money that I paid for taxes. Isn't that considered my money?? I just don't get it why are we bailing out failing banks, and the auto industry? If we can't afford a new car right now, and we just give them money to help them from filing bankruptcy what are we doing? As the saying goes we are holding a sinking ship together with bubble gum. But, every year that we have made the playoffs we either lacked defense, pitching or bullpen. This years Cubs, there is not one dominate player, everyone contributes. There is not one player on the team that dominates anyone else they all dominate. Edmonds was a guy Cub fans hated when he was a Cardinal cuz he was a Cub Killer. Now he is on our side and this last series with the Cardinals he was a Cardinal Killer. With outstanding defense in the outfield to stop runs from scoring to 2 homeruns in the first game. ESPN announcers Joe Morgan, and Jon Miller said it best tonight, the Cubs have Offense, Defense and Pitching, that is what makes this team different. Is this the year, as a Cubs fan I hope but, with black cats, Bartman, and Durham I can't believe until I see it. Lets GO CUBS..... Like I mentioned in the April post. The company I worked for SpaceMaker Furniture has closed its doors, but a well established company of 25 years bought the name and soft assests. I have been blessed with the opportunity to continue with the new company, as their new SpaceMaker Division Manager. The new company has huge potential with the fact that housing market is down, many people are looking at remodeling their existing home giving it a fresh new look. We offer the wallbeds as a great spare room conversion set-up. Take that guest room that is used 2-3 times a year otherwise it just sits there. Why not make it a home office or a kids playroom, or a scrapbook room, or a hobby room, or even a home theatre room. There are many possiblities with the SpaceMaker/SICO Wallbed.

I just think that every American, wishes they had that kind of money not to care. I am totally against that, if I had that money I would care about what I had, I would give money to those who are really care about it or need it. I work for a company that the owner has put his blood, sweat, tears into the company and now with the struggling economy he is forced to shut down. He has made every customer happy over 23 years and never had a complaint. He cared about everyone that he sold a job to. He gave a lifetime guarantee because, he knew he could honor that much. He stood behind his product 100%. And here as a society we care about the celebrities who don't give a sh#$ about anything. I remember hearing a rap star say "there is a black person running for president?" He is a millionaire and doesn't know what is going on in society.. Come ON!!!!!

Kobe Bryant, actually jumped in the air and that is what was filmed, then they later added the car going at whatever speed and changed the speed of the car so it was timed a correct speed. COME ON you really think Nike let Kobe do this, or do you really think with all that money that Kobe makes that the LA Lakers would allow him to do this?

COME ON, todays technology and program you can do just about anything on the computer.
