Didgeplanet Podcast #7 features an interview with multi instrumentalist, composer, teacher, instrument maker and author, Ed Drury. Ed was a classically trained trumpeter who traded the horn for a guitar long before he came to the didgeridoo. He is prolific with a wealth of recordings available for listening on the web. In addition to compositions released as solo work, he frequently collaborates with other musicians.

Ed’s website is one of the best resources for information and interviews concerning the didgeridoo. It continues to be one of my favorites and I return there regularly to be surprised and delighted by its depth and breadth.

I interviewed Ed at his home in Portland, Oregon, using Skype. [More.]

Didgeplanet podcast number 3 features an interview with didge player, Michael Edwards. I conducted the interview outdoors at the Jammin’ Tree Festival 2005, in North Fork, California, this past September. Mike’s a great and original player. His album, Planet Didge, in the group Axis (with Australian didge player Michael Jackson) features his signature rhythm in the song, “Ruach.”

His subsequent musical projects to Planet Didge include Didjitalis (“Positive Form, Negative Space”) and Oculus (“A Moment in Time”), both with Nick West. Mike gave me permission to play “Ruach” on the end of the podcast so that’s included.

Not only is Mike a brilliant player but he also has a PhD (his thesis: examining the impact of climate change and its effects on human security in island states). He does well by doing good and has a project working to promote better environmental understanding to young school children. In addition, he has lectured at universities in Australia and the UK and most recently at Hong Kong University and Dartmouth College. This is a very talented and capable guy with a lot to say both musically and intellectually.
