Marsha Haworth asked:

So you’re wondering how you can be a diabetic AND be healthy? First off we need to distinguish between the two types.

The two types of Diabetes are Type 1 (Insulin-Dependent) and Type 2 (Non-Insulin-Dependent.) Type 1 is permanent destruction of insulin, which is deadly. Patients are injected regularly with insulin injections and must follow a strict diet.

Type 2 is a metabolic disorder that is caused by a lack of insulin. You can control it by maintaining proper body weight and normal blood sugar levels with diet and exercise.

The Type of Diabetes Diet You Should Have

A diabetic should eat a small amount every 2-3 hours (5-6 times a day) to avoid fluctuation in blood sugar levels.

A diet which is high in soluble fiber, low in saturated fat and low in calories is recommended for someone with Diabetes.

Your body’s main source of energy is carbohydrates. You need to eat 130 grams or more of carbohydrates each day in order to supply the energy your organs need to function.

For healthy women, at least forty-six grams per day of protein is recommended and at least fifty-eight grams a day for men.

Not all fats are unhealthy. Don’t discard healthy fats like monounsaturated fats found in olive, peanut and canola oils or essential polyunsaturated fats because the body does not produce them

How You Can Change What’s In Your Food

There are Diabetic Recipes for your favorite food but you will want to use low glycemic foods. Some recipes may be high in fiber (more then 5grams) and for some diabetics, the carbohydrates from the fiber source may cause a problem with blood sugar levels.

Fit Yummy Mummy!

Blake Allen asked:

Looking for information about detox diet recipes? Read on…

Detoxifying our bodies every so often is not such a bad idea. This does not mean swearing off hamburgers, French fries and beer for a couple of days. Our bodies accumulate waste and toxins that in time will attack our immune systems and other areas of our bodies. Most important, when enough of these toxins are stored, they begin to rampage as free radicals, attacking the immune system and leaving our bodies open to a host of opportunistic diseases, such as cancer, diabetes, MS and others.

Many of us have gone with the assumption that a few mega-vitamins will certainly take care of us and there is some truth to this assumption but, overall, our bodies need a tune-up on occasion. A detoxification cleansing is that tune-up that our bodies need from time to time to keep our systems optimized and re-purified.

The foods to stay away from are processed foods, anything with sugar added to it, foods fried in oil, red meat, pork, chicken, and any other critters except fish. Also stay away from the diet drinks, lite beers, whole milk, the cereal aisle at the market and stay away from munchies, period.

There are many detox diet recipes available, in fact, given the right formulas, you too can make up your own detox recipes and write your own book.

The basic dietary pool to choose from are unprocessed foods that are rich in fiber, fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, brown rice, oats, raw nuts, fresh fish, fresh fruit juice and plenty of water.

Of these foods that you are allowed to eat, make a list of your favorites, then start writing out your own recipes for each meal, so it is planned out for you in advance. This will help you stay with your detox diet plan more effectively.

The Mediterraneans really knew what it meant to eat healthy. Mediterranean diets are very popular because of their low-fat, low-carb meals that they eat a lot of. There are many Greek and Turkish recipes that are available online that will fall into the detox diet grouping.

There are also several different varieties of vegetable soup recipes that can be accessed from wide variety of diet sites.

Cabbage soup is a very popular detox diet meal that is very satisfying and leaves you feeling full. So is Gazpacho. A Spanish soup made with tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumber and fresh garlic clove. This soup is served cold.

Another great detox diet recipe is called “Dave’s Detox Surprise. This detox soup calls for 2 quarts of water brought to a simmer. Add in 2 finely chopped onions, one half of a garlic clove, finely minced, four stewed tomatoes with the skins removed then diced. Two chopped carrots, 7 ounces of sliced mushrooms, 3/4 of a cup of brown rice and two beef bullion cubes. Let this soup simmer for about one hour on a low heat, then serve it hot.

Serve “Dave’s Detox Surprise” along with a broiled entree of Red Snapper, sprinkled with lemon juice and a side dish of fresh green beens with mushrooms and crushed almonds. What a meal!

Any detox diet recipes that you choose will require you to get creative with your food selections, so you can stay on track and not give up the challenge. The more variety of recipes that you can come up with, the easier your detoxification process will be. The Asian culture has a saying, “A cup of brown rice is worth a thousand recipes”.

Fit Yummy Mummy!

Victor Anicama asked:

The average person doesn’t possess the patience required to maintain a great set of abs. They lack the discipline and determination needed to achieve their goal. Many people go on “quick fix” fad diets in an effort to reduce their midsection. These fad diets are usually highly effective, and do as they’re supposed to do.

The problems begin the minute you go back to old eating habits. Going back to old eating habits results in a rebound effect. This rebound happens every time you diet, then go off of the diet.

Each time you rebound, you gain more and more. The only way to permanently maintain quality abdominal muscles is to get serious and actually change your lifestyle. Motivate yourself! Diets don’t work . . . lifestyle changes are what work.

There are no quick fixes. You can get a skin fold or liposuction, but they also are only temporary fixes. The fat will replenish itself eventually. Even then, you still have to change the way you live, as far as eating and maintaining good health are concerned.

You don’t really have to eat healthy or make special arrangements to wake up at 4:00am to train . . . and don’t waste time counting meal calories, or using a crazy point system. That’s no way to live. You don’t have to make drastic lifestyle changes. It can be something as simple as switching from soda to juice. It’s easy!

Remember, the true secret to obtaining great abs is mainly in the diet. You can have the best abs in the world, but if fat covers the underlying abdominal muscles, they’ll never have visibility.

Fit Yummy Mummy!

Charles Neshah asked:

Understanding the right food to eat can be quite puzzling, because most people lack meal plans diet information. Universally, there are reports about what food is or isn’t good for you, and advice for pregnancy diabetic diet, breakfast diet, low diet, cholesterol diabetic diet, low calorie diabetic diet, diabetic type 1, diet vegetables and diabetes diet cure, among many others have become common in reference to what works and what does not work to alleviate the result of improper eating.

However, some vital values have shown to be better than the fad diets, and have been proven to be most effective in combating all types of diabetes. Below are some tips on making food choices that are healthy for you and your whole family.

* Consume plenty vegetables and fruits. The best are non-starchy vegetables. Carrots, broccoli, spinach and green beans daily are in this range of non-starchy vegetables.

* Whole grain foods are better than processed grain products. I recommend that you eat brown rice and whole wheat spaghetti; they are better than processed grain products.

* Do not overlook regular eating of beans and lentils.

* Fish, eaten 2-3 times per week is good for your health.

* When you have to eat meat, lean meats, that’s the “loin” parts of both beef and pork don’t contain cholesterol and fat, eat those. Do not eat chicken and turkey along with their oily skins

* Skim milk, non-fat yogurt and non-fat cheese are what you should add to your meals.

* Drinking water and calorie-free “diet” drinks is better than regular sugar-sweetened drinks.

* Do not use solid fats; they are high in both trans and saturated fats. Fat is your enemy because it is high in calories. Since weight and diabetes go hand in hand, you should watch your fat consumptions..

* Avoid irregular and uncontrolled snacking of especially fried snack products, and such desserts like full-fat ice cream.

* Adequate calories intake is very essential for good health, even too much of health improving foods leads to overweight.

Meal plans & healthy diet are the basis of a healthy life. Diabetes in most cases result from lack of meal plans that culminate into unhealthy diet. If you want to lose weight, add some weight or remain as you are, regular and planned meals and eating right diet will help, and also keep to the barest minimum the risk of diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

Fit Yummy Mummy!

Michael Russell asked:

Bodybuilding can be defined as the pursuit of lean muscle mass. The importance of a proper diet to accomplish this goal cannot be understated. In fact, many experts argue that diet can account for up to 90% of a person’s success at building their body. Fortunately, there is an easy-to-follow meal plan that works like magic to burn fat and gain muscle.

In this day and age of fad diets and trendy diets and so on, it is important to note that bodybuilding involves a lifestyle. Regular, intense and goal-oriented training sessions combined with an intelligent approach to eating will promote the development of a muscular physique that most trainees desire. What is required is discipline, patience, persistence and consistency. All of these attributes are favourable and can lead one to success in not only physique goals, but also in personal and professional pursuits.

When an individual adopts bodybuilding as a lifestyle, the physique improvements can be maintained over the long term. A steady, consistent and daily approach will prevent the agony of short-term weight loss followed by a quick regain of weight and the accompanying depression and feeling of hopelessness. Training and eating like a bodybuilder works, becomes habit-forming and eventually gives one a real sense of satisfaction and accomplishment.

We like to adhere to the KISS (keep it simple, smart guy) principle when it comes to meal plans. So let’s not going to get too technical. We’re just going to lay it out for you. First of all, you should eat smaller meals, 5-6 times per day, 2 ½ -3 hours apart. This will keep your metabolism going and provide your muscles (stimulated by short, intense workouts) fed with nutrients required for growth. These meals will consist of protein, carbohydrates and fats.

Proper protein intake will vary according to age, gender, goals and so on. Generally speaking, each meal should contain between 25-50 grams of protein. A rule of thumb is that a healthy male trying to promote lean muscle mass should ingest 1.5 grams of protein per pound of body weight. Therefore, if your body weight is 200 pounds, a daily intake of 300 grams of protein (6 meals with 50 grams of protein each) would be required. The key is that if you are training hard, you need protein.

Sources for protein include lean meats, fish, egg whites, low fat cottage cheese and whey protein. Avoid fatty meats and try to grill your meats and do not fry them in fat. Remember to include a protein selection at each meal.

When discussing carbohydrates, it is vital to distinguish between the different types of carbs. For this discussion we will identify 3 different types of carbs: complex carbs include potatoes, yams, bread, cereals, grains, pasta and rice; simple carbs include most fruit and veggie carbs which include most vegetables and leafy greens.

Fats are also a necessity but should come from the following sources: extra virgin olive oil, flax seed oil, nuts (almonds are best) and fish oil. The diet is very simple. For every meal, choose a portion from the protein group, the complex carb group and the veggie carb group. A good rule of thumb is that a serving size for your protein and carbs should be about the size of your fist. Have a serving of fats at 2-3 meals per day and only have simple carbs first thing in the morning at breakfast and immediately following your workout. Actually, it’s critical to have a post workout shake with whey protein and a simple carb like a banana. Bring it to the gym with you and have it while the sweat is still on your body.

Now to fine tune this diet you can do this: if you are trying to increase muscle mass and not worried too much about losing fat, eat as above. However, if you wish to accelerate fat burning, do not eat complex carbs at your last 2-3 meals of the day. Lean protein (chicken ****** or fish) and salads or chunky veggies (broccoli and asparagus are excellent choices) will do the trick.

Let’s take this one step further. Here is a magic formula for extreme lean muscle mass and fat burning. For three days in a row, come hell or high water, only eat complex carbs first thing in the morning (a serving of oatmeal will do it) and immediately after your workout. On the fourth day, eat a ton of carbs. Actually cheat on this day. Eat whatever you want, but ensure that you eat sufficient protein and lots of complex carbs. This is the time to eat pizza, pasta, cake and so on.

This three day off, one day on carbs has produced fantastic results in many bodybuilders. We like it because any cravings we can put off until our “carb” day (which isn’t really that far off in the future) and then indulge at that time. The secret is to remain strict on the low carb days. This takes planning, preparation and discipline. You can do it. Once you start to see the results you get from this carbohydrate manipulation, you will find it much easier to stick to it.

This meal plan should produce such dramatic results so quickly that your friends will be asking you what you are “on”. The real secret is daily discipline. Take it one day at a time. Eat right according to the principles outlined above, manipulate your cab intake and train with intensity focusing on basic, heavy movements. This is the bodybuilding lifestyle. Engage in it and change your life, long-term and for the better.

Fit Yummy Mummy!

Vincent Russells asked:

What is the most discussed topic online in the diet industry nowadays? It is the Idiots Diet plan. This diet became a huge success because many dieters claim to have success in losing weight during in this diet.

What is idiots’ diet plan? This is more commonly known as the “Fat loss 4 idiots” and is the cheapest plan available. It is an 11-day diet with 4 diet meals per day and promises 9 pounds less your weight in 11 days.

First, you have to buy the plan then you are given access to their website where you will be choosing your desired food from their given list. As you choose, the website automatically creates your diet menu meals that you must take for 11 days. Just follow the diet menu and you will be 9 pounds lighter in just 11 days.

You will also be given a so called E-Book where the rules of the diet plan are discussed. The rules are just practical and easy to follow though. The main rule found in the book is to drink more water and walk half an hour everyday.

After the 11-day diet, you’ll be given a 3-day break where you can eat anything you want. After the break, you can go back to the diet and repeat the cycle until your desired weight is achieved.

What goes on during your 11-day diet?

The foods that we take are the barometer of the success of our diet. But how can really burn fat? The best way is to work on your metabolism. Metabolism is the rate of calories being burnt in our body. Faster metabolism means more calories burn. When calorie intake is insufficient, metabolism rate increases thus making the body burn fat and causes weight loss.

Is fasting effective?

Eating less makes your metabolism rate decrease because it has less calories to burn. This means eating less will not result to weight loss but instead even weight gain. This is because less action is done by the metabolism and therefore less fat and calories are burned. So eating less or fasting is not an effective weight loss method.

What to do?

You can work with your metabolism by not allowing it to relax. Foods may be classified in three types: Fat, carbohydrates and protein. You can switch between carb and protein foods but always avoid fat. Calorie shifting is one way to make your metabolism work.

How to do all these? This diet keeps you worry free because the diet menu generator will do everything for you so that you can start with your 11-day diet menu right away. You will enjoy its weight losing benefits as long as you follow the program faithfully.

Positive feedback on the Idiots diet:
•	Very practical to use
•	Fasting is never an option
•	Inexpensive cost (one-time pay of $39)
•	Side effects-free
•	Safe to repeat over and over again

Be reminded that the idiots’ diet comes with access to another diet plan called “Beyond the calories diet”. This diet is easier and cheaper and can be bought separately. This is taken for 10 days but can also be reduced to 6 with 6 meals a day. It is better to have both plans together rather than buying them separately because it will definitely cost more.

Fit Yummy Mummy!

Emma Deangela asked:

A detox diet provides you with the means of detoxifying your body. The basic fundamental of these detox diets is the more fiber and water these diets contain, the better it is. Thus consume tons of vegetables, fruits, seeds, nuts, roots etc. While eating all these foods, stay away from caffeine, carbonated drinks, chocolates and alcohol.

Today we are recommending some various detox recipes that can help to detox your body.

Dr. Kiki Sidhwa recommends a monotrophic diet after a three-day fast which means that we only eat one type of fruit for every meal. For instance, in the morning, you can eat apple. When it’s lunch time, you can try out oranges or pineapples. Around 4pm, you can squeeze in a grapefruit juice for your snack. And in the evening, eat only apples, pears, grapes or bananas.

The above is just one of the diet plans you can embark on when you are having a detox program. For most people, however, detox recipes are the best way to go. With detox recipes, your body will benefit from a cleansed body because the recipes will provide you with the necessary antioxidants and substances.

If you want a more fluid detox recipe, Ginger Healing Tea with Turmeric will be ideal. You will need 2 cups of water, ½ teaspoon of powdered ginger, ½ teaspoon of tumeric, 1 tablespoon of maple syrup and lemon extract. To make your special healing tea, add powdered herbs to boiling water and let it simmer for 10 minutes. Strain the tea into a mug and add maple syrup and lemon extract. Stir for a while and you can start to drink.

Next the vegetable super juice is suitable to be served at breakfast. This juice provides you the energy boost and wakes your senses, your digestive system and can keep you going until lunchtime. You would require 1 whole cucumber, 4 celery sticks, 2-4 handfuls of spinach, 8 lettuce leaves. You may want to add other green vegetables like parsley and fresh alfalfa sprouts for more nutrients and flavor. Next, all you need is to juice all the ingredients and add distilled water. Adding lemon juice would make it taste better.

As for lunch, we recommend you to try Alkalising RAW Soup. You would require 1 avocado, 2 spring onions, ½ red or green pepper, 1 cucumber, 2 handfuls of spinach, ½ clove of garlic, 100 ml of light vegetable Bouillon, lemon or lime juice and Bragg Liquid Aminos for added taste. Just like our vegetable juice, you can simply blend the avocado and stock to form a light paste. Next add other ingredients and blend the whole mixture together. Then you can start eating!

Here comes the dinner treat. You can simply enjoy Warm Broccoli Soup. You would require ½ avocado, 1/3 red onion, a big handful of spinach, 6-8 broccoli heads, inch of root ginger, 1 celery stick, cumin and bragg liquid amino for added taste. Steam the broccoli lightly for 5-6 minutes. Blend all the ingredients together after the broccoli are done and add garlic and pepper to taste. It is a perfect soup for cold winter night.

If you are still feeling hungry, you can visit our main site below to find out more about more detox recipes which are delicious and at the same time healthy. The important key here is enriching your body with enough water and nutrients without ingesting a plateful of additives, sugars and food preservatives. Start eating healthy!

Fit Yummy Mummy!

John Tenn asked:

There are many people who have sung the praises of the Zone Diet for its detail to frequent smaller portions and smaller meals being the big payoff overall. If you follow the diet guidelines as they are stated in the Zone program you will find that you can lose weight very quickly. However, staying in the Zone with this diet long term can be difficult.

There are more people who have read the books and information on the Zone Diet than probably have stuck to it and stayed in the Zone. There are short term dieters who have followed faithfully the teachings of this program and committed them to memory.

Pros to the Zone Diet include portion control. With this diet portion control and learning how much you should really eat at each meal can lead to training your mind and body to eat less but more often.

Another pro to this diet is reducing sugars which is something we all should do. This can aid you overall in your lifestyle by limiting how much sugar you intake daily. You can end up craving less sweets and sugars after having been on the diet program.

A double pro could be truly monitoring how much you eat and intake at each meal, and the sheer variety you can get from the Zone Diet program. You can take items from each column and mix and match them to plan your meals, set up menus and really get variety in your diet.

Some drawbacks to this diet are the restrictions and very small portions that you get to eat.

Another con to this diet is that many loose a bunch of weight short term, and go off of the diet program. They do find that they can be more apt to fall back into old habits and ways of eating easily. Not many have stayed with the Zone Diet over extremely long periods of time due to food variety limits.

Another con that some have commented on is the need to advance plan your meals and stick to a strict structured diet meal plan. This can be hard if you might be invited out to eat. Dining out is hard if not impossible.

Experts have stated another real drawback to this diet is that you do not get very much vegetable variety, and this diet lacks key vitamins, nutrients, and minerals to keep one healthy.

Before beginning any diet program and this includes the Zone Diet you should consult your doctor. The program and techniques in this diet limit key vitamins and minerals that may or may not be okay for you to limit.

For the short term your doctor may recommend it but may want you monitored. If you are given the green light by your doctor to continue a diet like this, keep in mind that you will probably want a vitamin and mineral supplement.

Fit Yummy Mummy!

Sunil Tanna asked:

Mexican cuisine combines traditional indigenous ingredients as well as ingredients imported from Europe:

- Corn, beans and chillies are the most well-known Mexican ingredients, and all have been part of the Mexican diet for thousands of years.

- Mexico was ruled by Spain for three hundred years – so the cuisine also features many Spanish influences, which include the introduction of sugar, cheese and livestock to the Mexican diet.

Additionally, fruits and vegetables also form an import part of the Mexican diet – these include tomatoes, squash, sweet potatoes, coconut, pineapple, papya, avocado and prickly pear cactus.

Some popular and well-known Mexican dishes include:

- Tortilla – A flat unleavened bread made from ground maize (corn) or wheat flour.

- Gauacamole – A dip/relish created using avocado, the recipe for which dates back to pre-Columbian times. As well as avocado, ingredients usually include tomatoes and salt, and sometimes lime juice, onions, and spices.

- Burrito (also known as “taco de harina”) – A tortilla filled with meat, such as beef, pork or chicken. Traditionally, meat is the only filling and the tortilla is rolled thin, however in the United States, it has become the norm to add other ingredients such as rice, beans, tomatoes, salsa, guacamole, cheese or sour cream.

- Enchilada – A maize (corn) tortilla dipped in oil or lard and then enchilada sauce. The tortilla is then filled, rolled, placed in a casserole dish and layered with sauce or other ingredients, and finally baked.

- Chili con carne – A spicy stew (usually beef or pork) with chili peppers.

Fit Yummy Mummy!
