I give a lot of assistance to friends and strangers every day. I do it for the fun and the great feeling it gives me by helping someone else and making them happy. A lot of the time I can walk people through the steps in fixing what they are needed. Though this is not always the case.

There are times that I must manually go in and see it for myself. To do this I use a remote desktop application called Zolved. Zolved is a free and simple remote desktop solution to use and requires no install to use. The no install part is what I love the most. So its easily removed once the session is complete

Just like any other remote desktop application it allows someone to share their desktop screen with their friend. They may give them full control or just allow a screen view. It also has a built in chat feature and also has a share file feature.

I use Zolved almost on a daily basis and would recommend it to anyone looking for a simple remote desktop application. You can get Zolved at http://www.zolved.com/

Windows 7 Released

Windows 7 was officially released by Microsoft yesterday and is all ready getting a large amount of sales. Windows 7 promises better overall performance, faster loading programs, and quicker boot times. Windows 7 also reduced the amount of clicks needed to do regular tasks. Windows 7 as well includes the new DirectX 11 API, but there are not many games that use it.

I have been using Windows 7 since it was first released to the public in beta stage and was amazed just at that point. I would recommend upgrading if you are still using Windows XP and especially if you are using Windows Vista. I especially love Windows 7 new taskbar and all the options it gives to personalize my desktop!

If you are interested in upgrading it is a bit is a bit pricey. Running at $320 for Windows 7 Ultimate, $300 for Windows 7 Professional, and about $200 for Windows 7 Home Premium. It’s all well worth your money. There are also plenty of discounts that you can obtain so just look around a bit!

Windows 7 Compatible Logo Program

Microsoft has released a blog article that explains the new Windows 7 Compatible Logo program will mean for customers. In order for a program to be considered as being Compatible with Windows 7, it must go through some hard testing. The biggest thing that has changed this time with the Windows 7 Compatible Logo program from it’s older compatible programs is that there must be 64 bit certified as well!

For Windows 7, we’ve made a number of changes to the Logo criteria and the process for granting Logo status. Our goal is to make the “Compatible with Windows 7 Logo” about the customer and ensuring them the best experience possible with Windows. A few of the changes we made include:

We focused on robust testing requirements to ensure optimal Windows 7 experience. Products that receive the Logo are checked for common issues to minimize the number of crashes, hangs, and reboots experienced by the user.

To be granted the Logo, products are tested to work with all versions of Windows 7 including 64-bit. This is an important change since 64 bit systems are becoming more mainstream.

We changed the testing process, reducing the amount of paperwork required and making it less expensive for our partners to achieve the logo.

We reached out to partners earlier giving them more time to test their products for use with Windows 7

These changes have already been met with positive results from our partner community. For the last several months we have been running a program for partners called Ready.Set.7 designed to help them achieve the logo. There are already over 6000 products that have received the logo and many more are added every day.

With 64 bit becoming more mainstream that what it used to be, this new step that Microsoft has taken with it’s compatible program I think is a good one. I believe Microsoft wants to get more application and hardware to take advantage of the 64 bit architecture.

Bank Data Not Viewed By Gmail User

Rocky Mountain Bank had accidentally leaked personal records of 1,300 customers. The customers names, address, social security numbers where all part of the leaked records. What happens is a Rocky Mountain Bank employee attached the document containing 1,300 customers records then sent it to a mistyped gmail address.

Rocky Mountain Bank confronted Google and asked them to delete the email but they declined. Then Rocky Mountain Bank went to court and received a court order for Google to delete the email and to disclose if it had been viewed. Fortunately the email was never viewed so the data was not compromised.

“Rocky Mountain Bank, working with Google (through court order), confirmed on Thursday of last week that the e-mail containing client information was never opened and has now been permanently destroyed by Google’s system,” Tina Martinez, general counsel for Rocky Mountain Capital, wrote in an e-mail response to questions.

“As a result, no customer data of any sort has been viewed or used by any inappropriate user during this data lapse,” Martinez wrote. “Rocky Mountain Bank acted to protect its customer’s confidential information. That objective was accomplished. The matter is now closed and the TRO (temporary restraining order) entered on September 23, 2009 is now vacated.”

Asked for comment, a Google spokesman said: “To protect the privacy of our users, we do not comment on their use of Google services.”

Looking at this I can understand why the user had never viewed email and attachment. With so many scams always going on, I know personally would never open a email and an attachment if I was not expecting it. Especially if it has a name of a bank on it.

Though looking at this I wonder how such incident like this could of happened in the first place? Was it just complete carelessness. I know after this if I were at that bank I would leave, that is just unacceptable for a bank or any business in that matter.

iPods Dangerous!

I really don’t think it’s just me thinking this way or do people not have any common sense? It’s kind of like that last lawsuit with McDonald’s and hot coffee. Though this one comes with the use of iPods and other sound devices. One really should have the common sense to know that keeping headset or ear buds in your ears for a prolonged period of time is bad for you!

I am guessing people don’t have the common sense and is probably why the European Commission want’s to do this. I really don’t think it takes all that much thought to know what a responsible and safe volume you can have playing on your iPod. I guess not that is why government must step in to let people know!

Yeah the devices should carry a warning for younger kids who may not know. Though parents could show a bit more parenting and own self restraint on the volume of music that is acceptable. You can still have your volume up quite loud anyways before it begins to start causing damage. Even then it really don’t need to be that loud.

Windows 7 OEM at 55% off

Newegg is taking pre-orders for the upcoming releasing operating system Windows 7. Neweeg has a big sale going on that is planned to end on 10/20/09 where potential customers can purchase full versions of Windows 7 OEM.

So what is OEM version and how is it different if I got it like from Dell? OEM is a full version designed to be installed cleanly and does not come bundled with any other software, it does not come with any support from Microsoft and can’t be transferred to another computer.

I know myself would much rather have a clean copy of Windows without anything else installed. Especially trial-ware! I really disliked always having to uninstall all those trial-ware applications.

According to an article over at ComputerWorld, they broke down the pricing like this:

An online retailer today unveiled prices for OEM editions of Windows 7, listing them at discounts of between 45% and 55% off Microsoft’s “full” editions — and pricing them below the upgrades slated to hit shelves next month.

Newegg.com priced the OEM edition of Windows 7 Home Premium at $99.99, 50% off Microsoft’s suggested list price of $199.99 for the full version of the new operating system, and 17% less than the $119.99 price of the same edition’s “upgrade.”

The online retailer priced the OEM editions of Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate at $134.99 and $174.99, respectively, 55% and 45% under the list prices of the same full editions.

Windows 7 Professional OEM was the bargain of the three editions compared to the price for an upgrade copy, selling at Newegg for 33% less than the $199.99 Microsoft charges. Ultimate OEM, meanwhile, was priced 20% under Microsoft’s suggested list of $219.99 for an upgrade.

Mac Users With No Anti-Malware at Risk!

Being a Mac users does not make you invincible from today’s current attacks. In fact Mac users are being targeted! This issue is even more of a threat because most Mac users run no type of anti-malware to protect there computer. Your Mac computer is worth .43 cents!

The Partnerka is the complex network of affiliates who profit from spam and malware. Run like a multi-level marketing scheme, if you’ve ever received an email which points you to a “Canadian Pharmacy” website, you’ve met the Partnerka.

Dmitry’s investigations are discussed on Paul Ducklin’s blog – but one thing that jumped out at me in his talk was that there is a faction of the Partnerka (which Dmitry has dubbed the “codec-partnerka”) which is dedicated to the sale and promotion of fake Mac software, designed to compromise your computer.

For instance, the website pictured above (which is no longer online – at least not currently) was recently offering $0.43 to its affiliates every time they managed to successfully install malware on users’ Apple Mac computers. And to help their affiliates in this scheme, they offer dangerous malware posing as fake video players.

I normally would link off to some sort of software that could be used, but I am not a Mac users so I really can’t offer anything. Does anyone else know of anything?

MySpace To Sync With Twitter

Social networking site MySpace has recently announced that MySpace & Twitter users will be able to sync their status with one another. This now will let users of both social networking sites update update both statuses with the same info at the same time. The service is optional so users can use it or not use it.

In a statement from the Senior Product Manager of MySpace, Sharon Nguyen, she also stated the following:

At MySpace, we believe in open content distribution and want to help users socialize around content in many different places. Your status update is a quick way to tell friends what you’re up to, or in to. Our new sync functionality is part of an ongoing effort to make it simple for people to share their status beyond MySpace and allow friends and followers to interact with that content Web-wide.

We’ve been hearing from users, content creators, and celebrities that they want an easy, secure way to update both their MySpace and Twitter accounts.

To enable sync with Twitter, we are using open authentication technology, OAuth. OAuth allows limited data to be shared between sites while protecting your account credentials. This makes syncing easy and keeps your information confidential.

Syncing functionality includes:

· Status updates synced from MySpace to Twitter and vice versa

· Updates originating from MySpace will be noted as such on Twitter and vice versa

· Status syndication can be enabled for one-way or two-way

· When updates post to Twitter, readers have a link back to MySpace to make commenting easy

· Enables on-the-go status syncing (for Twitter and MySpace Mobile – WAP and apps)

· Open authentication technology (OAuth) protects account credentials and data shared between sites

MySpace is a place where people go to broadcast, discover, and express themselves. We’ll be adding other networks soon and are excited to see how users will sync their favorite websites to more easily socialize with friends and followers.

I have been using this new MySpace feature and it is working well! I am very happy with it and would be nice if we could sync with other social networking sites as well!
