Love Facebook but still sticking with Orkut because you have your precious contacts and group in Orkut and don’t want to start from scratch to build your friend circle again. In a move by Facebook that can wipe the very existence of Orkut from the only two markets where it is strong i.e Brazil and India it has now given its user to link their Facebook account with Orkut. Now you can choose to share everything you publish or select what you want to publish from the comfort of Facebook in Orkut.
When you log in Facebook today you will be greeted with a message and easy instruction to link you both accounts or simply click on this link and start linking.

Certainly seems like just after opening its office in Hyderabad Facebook really plans to capture the remaining part of the world. Lately Indians has already started using Facebook a lot but this option to link Orkut and Facebook is planned to put Orkut 6 feets down and it seems it will achieve it too.

The other feature Facebook offered today along with morning coffee is Groups. You can build your group interestingly with user can now create a group, add members to the group and now some awesome part is that user can group chat not only that offline user can later catch up with the discussion and wait its not over yet group get a personalise email id too … which will be something like yourchoice@groups.facebook.com now that's cool.
And these moves are just after Facebook integration with Skype.
So now what what can be done in Facebook One can video chat, voice chat, group chat, update to Orkut and yeah the most important can surely do Social Networking ..

Ayodhya Verdict: India won, Media looses, Technology wins.

Today was unlike any other day the big news was Ayodhya Verdict was to be announced today and due to some tension we were summoned in office early, damn it was very early. So went to bed early, make that midnight, so that I could reach office at 7. Trying to wake up early I woke up at 3am now this was not desirable or necessary as my alarm was scheduled to ring at 5. Anyways trying to accept the destiny I didn’t went back to sleep after that.
Now here I reach office and there was a buzz over the cup of coffee about Ayodhya verdict. Understanding the risk our team lead left us at 1 so that we could reach our homes. Now here where’s the whole story begins. When returning back the roads were deserted, malls and shops closed was like a virtual strike, cops here and there on patrolling.
Switched on the TV every news channel had their best reporters placed in front of Allahabad High Court and as the most admirable part of our country’s strong news network and awesome coverage is that they can virtually cover everything I mean even the birds flying over the venue, but now the real entrainment from those news channel is that they have this awesome talent to even cover a decent and sensitive matter like the Ayodhya Verdict in an dramatically way as if its a climax scene of our daily saas bahu soap.

So annoyed I turned the TV off and header to the web.And not very surprisingly we had a better coverage of the whole verdict from genuine people with genuine thoughts. Everyone was talking about peace and brotherhood, moreover no one was talking about temple or a mosque, different people had different views some wanted schools, some hospitals some college etc etc. What the point I want to make here is that if you are frustraded and annoyed like me with the Indian media and don’t want to see their presentation skills and better opt of some genuine stuff other that some daily saas bahu soap kind of material, Internet is the place where you should land up. No I am not talking about the IPTVs that are on the buzz now a days due to launch of 3g networks. I am talking about our regular sites like Google and twitter.

Google’s Realtime is simply awesome when you want to get the real time updates and as twitter is addictive people like you and me can’t get enough of it. I searched google realtime for keywords "Ayodhya Verdict" and the results were bombarded with hundred to twitter updates every second, here since the updates are automatically refreshed sometimes I had to freeze the screen just to read the updates. An awesome coverage with genuine thoughts I would like to say about that and yeah I never missed the TV the whole time, I had an instance where virtually i got an adrenaline rush also .. believe it.

The aftermath tells us that twitter trends were topped by India the whole time with the top 3 positions acquired by #Allahabad High Court, #Ayodhya Verdict and #Nirmohi Akhara which is certainly never seen over these years. Even some twitted that the Case briefing was created in OpenOffice 3.1, while some had a chance to point out that the engineers working on Allahabad Official site where the Verdict was supposed to be announced had a real DDos type of attack situation as millions of users requesting the site at the same time causing it to crash. And since even twitter were bombarded with tweets even our Big Blue Whale has to give up for sometime although that was just for an instance. and such a coincident was that twitter has 3 TT and land was also divided into 3 parts now that's awesome.

The key point here I want to make is that here is an example how the our everyday life's has been changed we are no more dependent upon newspapers that gives us a days old news neither we have to tolerate anymore of news media drama (SANSANI that is what I like to call) we can very well get great coverage and news in real time by smart use of present technology. Thanks Google, Thanks Twitter, Thanks Technology.

Now please don’t fight anymore we have lots of more things to worry about one of which is our nations pride CWG games etc.

I am really ashamed and feeling terrible due to all the mess created in CWG and with all the media coverage that it is attraction and is also marking a nation that is supposed to be the 3rd most powerful nation in the world with a bad name. One of the top official of CWG OC said in there defence that “India have different level of hygiene and lifestyle we should not compare it with Beijing Olympics.” Well in this sweet tone he certainly refers to the low hygiene and lifestyle and that’s a blow more to the world class infrastructure and working condition of emerging India. Even though he says so that does not means that people coming to India expects to see tigers and snake charmers and streets dogs running all over their bed and neither that means it has to be prodigal. People in the cooperate world of today's India know that fact very well the we are behind no one. We had a chance to prove the world and embrace them with our luxury and our sweetness. Still we have not lost at all we still have a chance to make it right we can still make their stay a better one I mean best of what they have ever experienced so that when they go back to their countries they can say a story that how India recovered from all those initial mess and gave them such a awesome stay.

So from where all these kind of problems arises .. ha .. Good guess its got to be corruption that spread from the root to the top. There is a second fees to be paid in bureaucracy starting straight from peon to top officials to get you work done. There are some NGO who are working hard to at least minimise it.

A site www.ipadiabribe.com that tries to check corruption in their own way. Its is a non profit organisation that works with citizens and government to change the quality of life in India. The working model for the organization is simple and effective.

Now that's one of the cruel act that we as a common citizens have to face in our daily life. Join it take a pledge fight against it.

Although the system has become more transparent by the introduction of RTI and other few laws. the only thing that is lacking is unawareness we as a citizens should be aware of our rights and fight tooth and nail for those. And stop paying for our common rights like to file and FIR and for our birth certificate and on a whole stop paying bribe at all .

Remembering even those of us who pay bribe are equally guilty as we provide platform for them to ask and again ask for more.

Instead take a pledge and fight with it. Remember its a disease and when one gets ill we take preventions and take pills to kill the disease and not just sit idol and have the disease take their chance to win over us.

India does not makes us, We individual makes India.

Save our nation. Its in our hand to write the future of our mother nation .

to give her back what she has given us. India has done a lot for us not its our turn to give her back.

INSTALL CHROME WEB APP (an easy guide)

It surely seems like Google is working really hard to switch your desktop applications online. With its ambitious projects like Google chrome OS and continuously developing other projects, it sure aims to next generation of computing i.e cloud computing.

Recently at Google IO it has released chrome web app store much like that of Apple but the difference is that you don't have to download it to any cellphone or computer, it will work online only.

Here is how you can install some web app in your chrome browser.

Step 1:

Download the latest chrome browser from dev channel (if already present then skip this step).

download chrome from dev channel here.

Once installed start Google chrome with --ebnable apps flag.

For this create a shortcut of chrome,

right click on the shortcut and click properties and to the target add --enable-apps (i.e path_to_chrome.exe --enable-apps)

restart the browser.

Step 2:

For Maps app

create a folder named map_app

and put the following files into it
1) manifest.json
2) 24.png
3) 128.png

click on manifest.json copy the whole content, now paste it in a text document save it and rename it to manifest.jason (remember to delete the .txt extension). Save the other two files in the same folder.

Step 3:
Now open Chrome with --enable apps flag

Bring up the extension mamagement page by clicking icon and choosing extension.
If the developer mode has a + then click it and additional developer mode appears.

Now click on the Load unpacked extension.

And navigate to the map_app folder and click ok.
You have now installed the app

Now open a new tab viola and heres your newly installed app.

For Gmail extension create a new folder named gmail_app
copy and paste the following codes in notepad and name it to manifest.json and save it in gmail_app (again remember to del the .txt extension)

GOOGLE WAVE IS NOW OPEN FOR ALL

The much anticipated google wave has finally hit the shores. Last year the company created buzz by announcing the preview version of wave and created a tsunami of request for wave. Till now the invite-only real time communication tool is finally made available to everyone including google app users. Google wave which is powered by HTML5 is aimed to provide more app from desktop to web. They have certainly showed the power of wave and now after much testing and tweaking to the preview stage product has come out with the labs product.

Which including including e-mail notifications, read-only wave access and undo/redo options.

Now loaded with real time features which promises better online working and sharing. Which combines most of the features that we are used to doing online and yet some new ones too.

Google has also learnt and implemented a lot of wave concept in its docs which has eased working together online. Has a lot more potential.
Sure wave does feels like breath of fresh air for our online habits.

New gmail features you certainly don't wanna miss

Gmail recently launched two new labs features. Both the feature are highly requested by users and google granting them. One feature is nested labels.It gives you the ability to organise labels hierarchically.It just like making folders inside a folder to organise your data. like you have a folder names entertainment then inside that folder you have various other folders like movies, songs, pics, videos etc. So this nested label also works on this way.

Another interesting feature included is message sneek peek which lets you preview messages in your inbox much like that of google reader in igoogle if you have tried one. The google reader in igoogle works a lot better than the sneek peek in gmail. Well nevertheless it was a highly demanded feature which gmail user used to miss, as yahoo, msn, outlook supports a tri panel design in which you can view your messages without leaving you inbox.

To enable both the features just click in the labs icon in gmail and enable "nested labels" and save it. Say you want to create a new label "movie" under the main label "entertainment", so name the label as "entertainment/movie".

To enable "message sneek peek" same as before go to gmail labs and enable "message sneek peek" and save it. To preview a message just right click on the mail .. and vola!! theres the preview.

And hey gmail has also reorganized gmail labs. Now labs features are categorized into enabled ones and those not enabled.

A PEEK TO CLOUD STORING AND COMPUTING

As the world is switching from personal computer to netbooks and working all around with cloud computing and cloud storing.
With some developing cloud OS like the Jolicloud, Google Chrome OS etc and other giving you a browser integrated cloud computing environment like G.ho.st, Microsoft's skydrive, Glide etc, We are getting a taste of how the world or precisely the online world is going to change. From web1.0 (when internet was read only matter) to web 3.0 (when the word mainly means interaction much more like with igoogle, google wave etc) and now with cloud computing a lot of things are going to change in the means of how we used to store our data and use our resources.

Services like Microsoft's skydrive allow you to store upto 25GB of data online but has a restriction of 50MB max size, with almost the same interface like that of its e-mail service. But it does lacks connection with its other services, but yes it makes it easier to share documents online, another more interesting service is offered by google docs, which allows you to create, edit, upload and view you documents along with sharing it and allow you to permit who can edit it and who cannot!

But hey wait a min aren't we talking about browser integrated cloud computing services. Ok
for that we have pretty interesting services like ghost and Glide.
(Oops just in: ghost public service is closing from 15th march)

Don't worry we still have Glide which provides stunning cross platform compatibility and equally impressive granular rights.

It gives you a feel of a operating system in your browser comes along with various features like photo editor, text editor, e-mail client, and lots of other goodies like profiles, groups, calender, meeting amnager etc
The most impressive feature is gdrive which opens like your My Documents where you can store and organize your documents, photos, music, video and bookmarks.

It even has a Glide One Sync Application which you can download and install in your pc and access your Glide account from there and when you are on the move and using others computer you can fairly use the online version.

IS YOUR PASSWORD STRONG ENOUGH

Ok so here we are again choosing lame password that are very easy to guess and easier to brute force attacking softwares to crack it. Recent study has showed that 30% of the users choose password that are less than six characters or less, 60% of users choose their password from a limited set of alpha-numeric characters in fact almost 50% users used names, dictionary words, slang words or consecutive digits or alphabets. Many people use '123456' as password in fact it is the most common password used online (how lame is it).

Recently I blogged about Twitter banning 370 passwords on the registration page which include similar, most common and lame passwords used over the net. So whats there with people choosing such a lame password like 'abc123' or '123456' or 'password' itself and leave a digital key like the one under the door mate of your house,
“I guess it’s just a genetic flaw in humans,” said Amichai Shulman, the chief technology officer at Imperva

Out of 32 milion passwords from RockYou, a company that makes softwares for social-networking sites such as Myspace and Facebook , examined by Imperva team they have found that there was a lot of possibility of breaking the passwords for the hackers using smart and new brute force attacking softwares, indeed the numbers reveal that "the combination of poor passwords and automated attack means that in just 110 attempts , a hacker will typically gain access to one new account on every second or a mere 17 minutes to break into 1000 accounts."
Now that number is something to be very worried about taken into account the kind of informations that are stored online now a days.

SO THE QUESTION IS HOW STRONG YOUR PASSWORD REALLY IS

First of all look at the list above and check whether your password is in that list, if its there the you know instantly its time for you to choose a new and stronger password. If its not there and you want to know the strength of your password the there are lots of tools available online which determines your password strength.

Tips for strong passwords:

Make your password 8 characters or more
Use mixed case letters (upper and lower case)
Use more than one number
Use special characters (!,@,#,$,%,^,&,*,?,_,~)
Use L33t
Use a random password generator/password vault like Password Safe or pwsafe
Use PasswordMaker

So once you are ready with a password fulfilling the guidelines provided above, now is the time to check the strength you can go to either to microsoft site or any other site like gmail registration form etc available to check it.

My personal favourate is Password meter which not only checks your password but also gives you tips on what kind of character you can add or remove to make your password stronger, is it consecutive numbers or alphabets or just lowercase or just upper case etc.
So the next time you choose yourself to be safe than make sure to keep different password for different accounts and a stronger password.

Gone are the days of punch cards, gone are the days of magnetic tapes gone are the days of 5" harddrive and gone are the days of bluerays also(before it can capture the market).
Yeah in the recent future you can definitely plan to throw away your latest, fastest and smallest storage medium.
That means throwing your 2.5" drives that comes in your notebook and even 1.8" drive that's inside your ipod.

With the development of promising SSDs (solid state drive) which is yet to revolutionize the way we store our data.

Till date SSDs promised increased speed and better stability but now according to hothardware.com Toshiba have developed 1TB harddisk that of a size of a postage stamp. (wowwwwww thats from my side)
A partnership between the company and Tokyo's Keio University has created a new technology that could allow SSDs to store as much as 1TB on size of that of a postage stamp.

The report states that the two have been able to integrate 128GB NAND Flash chips and a single controller into a stamp-sized form factor. They have even made it operational with transfer rates of 2Gbps (or 250MB/sec) with data transfer that relies on short-range, electromagnetic communication. And with increased power efficiency.
A application-ready working model can only be produced around 2012.
Till then keep an eye and ears open .. who knows someday someone would come and say 'HONEY I SHRUNK THE KIDS'... and you keep guessing what was shrunked.

GOOGLE BUZZING AROUND WITH BUZZ

This tuesday google launched its new gmail feature named buzz. As google says that gmail was just an e-mail 5 years ago, but then they added chat and then voice and video chat taking gmail a leap forward from others and making it more interactive.Now google launched google buzz that is right just there integrated in your inbox, from where you can view the stuff shared by your friend in real time, as all of ours habit has become to share the photos and videos and articles etc etc, ultimately sharing anything that we find intresting. So from now on you don't have to go around searching for shared items as it will be present right there in your inbox.
It also connects your other accounts like flickr, twitter, youtube, blogspot, picasa and google reader.

And since it is built right into your gmail so you are automatically following the peoples whome you sent emails and chat with often. Plus your follower and the people you are following in your google reader also automatically gets added. So you don't have to again start from scratch and fill up yours friend list column (like we have to do in reader and others even till nw).

The intresting thing to me is that I find this move of google to connect through other sites and display them in gmail, a act to draw the tarffic even of other sites to their own. If facebook also allows google to connect them then it could really change the game between the to majors.
Well none the less it is a wonderful feature which certainly I will be using a lot and I already have started loving it just after a day of use.

FACEBOOK REDESIGNS ITS LAYOUT

It's haven't been a long time since we have witnessed changes in Facebook, earlier it was Facebook lite(which was beta ofcourse for testing) and then the changed or rather enhancing security features. Just when you log into your Facebook account you must had noticed that it have gone through a major transformation, with much of the feel like that of Facebook lite (which they were testing since a couple of months) although a better feel indeed. And this simplified layout was to mark a milestone of being 6 years in existence. It also claims that the no of users has doubled from 200 million to 400 million on its fifth birthday making it far above all the others social networking sites, and yeah the average time spent on Facebook is also longer than other sites.
It has rolled out the changes in some 80 million users for its initial phase.Which is full of more visible and easy-to-use features.

The new layout certainly emphasis on chatting and search option, seems like apparently Facebook has gone through their statics a lot and found that their user doesn't uses chat feature frequently as compared to other interactive features, so true I personally hated chatting in Facebook. And since they are determine to stay on top so not a surprise for us.
Lots of things like the bookmarks and the applications which were hidden in the taskbar are now more visible on the left menu, left menu is redesigned and things like contents from friends, messages, online friends, friends update and more are available there.
The top menu has also been simplified. The Live feed and News feed earlier updated have been merged into single news feed with the most recent option.
Well one thing that surely is going to create some confusion among the newcomers setting and logout option which only shows up when 'ACCOUNTS' on the top right corner is clicked.

Talking of the giant and the favourite. This simply shows the size of the mammoth, and redefines the term 'huge'.

So what more to expect form Facebook in the recent future, Facebook is planning to improve its internal e-mail service into a full-fledged web mail application. The project is code named 'Project Titan' and would certainly please millions of its users, but this is yet to be introduced.
Lets wait and watch what this mammoth has in their mind.

GOOGLE TRANSLITERATION IME

Google has launched transliteration IME (INPUT METHOD EDITOR) in fourteen launguages. It is currently available in 14 different languages - Arabic, Bengali, Farsi (Persian), Greek,Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

To use google IME simply download it in the launguage you want and install (and as usual since its google its free).
It allows you to translate it in other languages.
These features are already in orkut, gmail, blogger, knol.
Now sending and email to someone who doesn't know english is much more simpler.

YOUTUBE TESTING HTML5

Shortly after Youtube announced its upcomming video rental program. About which I already blogged.
It has now finally declared that it is going to use HTML5 supported videos instead of using Adobe flash player.That means that viewers don't have to install flash player plugins inorder to watch the video. So wait and see how your browsing experiences are going to change with a step forward in technology.

As for now, there are some restrictions like.

Videos with ads are not supported (they will play in the Flash player).
Fullscreen is not supported.
If you've opted in to other testtube experiments, you may not get the HTML5 player.

But I am sure that the brains behind it are seriously working behind it .

Browser that supports HTML5 are
Google Chrome, Apple Safari(v 4+), Internet Explorer with Chrome Frame installed.
Surprisingly , Firefox and opera both are not supported for now.. Well we dont have to wait long for this to happen, they are pretty soon going to support them too (a genuine guess).
You can opt for HTML5 program for you account from testtube.

GODMODES IN WINDOW 7

Its very intresting to and fun to tweak and change the appearence of the operating system to match one taste.

It was very popular in win xp, there were lots of tweaks to and lots of us used to customise xp as we wanted although not totally... but hey we did a lot don't we!

And now since we have moved to window 7. well a lot of we did.

A hidden "Godmode" in window 7 recently discovered by bloggers have excited a lot of window enthusiasts.

By creating new folder in window7 and renaming it with certain text string at the end, user are able to have a single place to do everything from changing the look of the mouse pointer to making a new hard-drive partition.

To enter "Godmode" create a new folder and name it anything you want then period then one of the text string.e.g.

"DigitalDream.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}"

(use everything inside the quotes but not the quotes)

It works very well in window 7, although some are warning that although it works fine in 32-bit versions of Vista, it can cause 64-bit versions of that operating system to crash.

Such undocumented settings were also in previous version of windows .. well all must be aware..

And it was also present in vista and 7.

Its was names by the bloggers as "Godmode"

The so-called GodMode settings folder uncovered by bloggers is just one of many undocumented developer features included in Windows.

several similar undocumented features provide direct access to all kinds of settings, from choosing a location to managing power settings to identifying biometric sensors.

So here we go. After creating a buzz with its preview, Google wave is all set to officialy launch in 2010.
Google wave which calls itself as a personal communication adn collaboration tool; combines e-mail, instant messaging, social networking, wiki, blogging etc in one. So as 2010 nears be ready for a lot of technology to be unveiled the world will never be the same.

370 PASSWORD YOU SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM

As most of we know, one should not use passwords that can be easily guessed. Like "password or 123456 or username etc etc" and sometimes you must have experienced that some of the obvious password are not accepted during registration.
Twitter has hard-coded some 370 banned password on the sign-up page. A small step to security although very essential.

Some of the password include simply words and some of the most dullest and commonly used password
few examples of which are

- testing
- naked
- stupid
- twitter

- 123456
- secret
- please
- beavis
- butthead
- internet
- hooters

To view all the 370 passwords all you have to do is go to Twitter's sign-up page and view source, and simply perform search for ‘twttr.BANNED_PASSWORDS’ and bingo here are all the 370..

In its documentary Extraordinary Animals In The Womb, National Geographic captured rare highly detailed images of animals at various stages of gestation. Now you can see fetal dog, elephants, penguins, and dolphins still inside the womb.

Extraordinary Animals In The Womb aired last year, using advances in scanning and imaging technology to trace the gestational paths of animals outside the human family. The documentary footage is actually a combination of digital photography, scans, and computer-generated models. The filmmakers took detailed scans of the animal's wombs, then had the model makers recreate every blood vessel and whisker. The resulting images, while not direct photographs, are, according to the researchers, accurate representations of what goes on inside these creatures' wombs.

It has been years since the announcement of usb3.0 and promising to launch products supporting it by 2010. now the time has came for the superhigh speed port to bring yet another change in the world.

With the news that the new usb 3.0 connector will provide with speed upto 4.8 Gbps will certainly bring revolutionary changes to the world just like its predecessor usb did.

but the quetion is that "WHATS IN THE BAG".

Although there are lots of hacks available to download videos from youtube but this will be the first time to download videos from youtube legally.
