How To Turn Off Internet Explorer 10 In Windows 8

Step 1 :
Go to Run by using the combination of [WIN KEY] + R and it will open RUN utility .

Step 2 :
Type appwiz.cpl in Run and click on OK .

Step 3 :

It will open Programs and Features which shows all the installed programs .On the left side pane it will show you the option Turn Windows Features On Or Off.

Step 4 :

Click on Turn Windows Features On Or Off and it will show you the several windows feature .Look of internet explorer 10 and uncheck the check-box in front of it .

Step 5 :
You will then be given a warning, you can just click yes to continue.

Step 6 :
Now click on OK and windows will starts IE10 turning off .

Step 7 :

After completion it will ask you to restart your PC just click on Restart and you are done .

Step 8 :
After Restart you will not see Internet explorer anymore .

Each Website on the internet is associated with at least one (Internet Protocol) IP Address. When you are trying to open the website on your computer you just only type the name of the website in your browser and it will open the website for you but your web browser never shows the IP Address which is connected with the domain .

How To Determine The IP Address Of Any Website ?

Step 1
Go to Start button and in the search box type cmd and hit Enter .

Step 2
It will show you the black box on your computer .

Step 3
There are three ways or commands which we can use in command prompt to determine the IP Addresses associated with the website

Ping
Nslookup
Tracert

Ping

Ping is a standard tool used to check whether a host is alive or reachable through the network or not. Ping command sends request messages to other network address and checks the time it takes for a response message to arrive .

Command : ping example.com

Type the address of the website in place of example.com and command prompt will show you the IP Address associated with your websites .

For eg : Google.com is associated with 74.125.236.0

Nslookup

(Name Server Lookup)Nslookup command query the DNS(Domain Name Service) for information about Domain Name and IP Addressess.When you start Nslookup , it shows the hostname and IP address of the DNS server that is configured for the local system and then display the further queries.

Command : nslookup example.com

Type the address of the website in place of example.com and command prompt will show you the hostname and IP address of the DNS server and also list the IP Addresses associated with your websites. For eg : Nslookup of Google.com first display the Hostname and IP address of the DNS sever and then display the list of IP Addresses associated with domain google.com.

Tracert

Tracert is used to show the details about the path that a packet takes from the computer to other destination.Tracert display the list of near-side router and the path between host and destination.

Command : tracert example.com

Type the address of the website in place of example.com and command prompt will show you the IP address of the website and the path took by host to get to the destination.

Windows uses Hosts file to map hostnames to IP addresses. It basically tells your computer where to look for a certain website.When you type an address in your web browser it first checks the Hosts file for redirection information,if no record about a website is found, it opens a website for you.

How You Can Block A Website On Windows ?

Step 1

Go to Start button and in the search box type Notepad .

Step 2

Right click on Notepad and click Run as administrator.

Select the File option from menu bar and click Open or use Ctrl + O .

Step 3
Now browse to host file which is located in (C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc).The folder will be empty as it’s only showing *.txt files. In the bottom right of the folder click the drop-down menu and select > All Files

and double click on hosts to open it .

Step 4
Now you will see a new notepad window on your screen containing some obscure information.

Just goto the last line of the file, hit the enter key and type the following

127.0.0.1 www.example.com

127.0.0.1 www.example1.com

For e.g : if you want to block the websites like facebook or pogo games .You can simply replace the examples with the website names and the Ip address will remains same for as many sites you want to block .

127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com
127.0.0.1 www.pogo.com

Step 5

After editing , your hosts file look like this

Just save the file and restart your web browser and the above mentioned websites will blocked . If you want to unblock the websites later just remove the created entry and save the file again.

MANAGE YOUR START-UP

Home is a place where you are sharing your computer with your wife , son , daughter, but sometime you don't like anybody else to change the desktop background,uninstall the programs and change any windows settings without your permission .Windows provides you an option by which you can create multiple user accounts and keep separate his or her own preferred settings, documents, e-mail accounts, contacts and another data .This post describes how you can setup various user accounts with different privileges .

Step 1:
Click Start in windows and go to Control Panel

Step 2 :
Select Add or remove user accounts listed under User Accounts and Family Safety .

Step 3 :
You will see a screen that lists your current users account . Click "Create a new account"

Step 4 :

You will now be at the Create New Account screen. In the New account name field enter the name of the new account that you would like to create , then you need to select the type of account. An Administrator's account has full access to the computer and can make all changes, install software, create and delete accounts. The other type of account is Standard user and has limited privileges as to what settings and changes it can make to the computer.After selecting a name and the type of account you should click on the Create Account button.

Step 5 :

Now double click on new user account to customize it .There are several changes you can make to a particular user's account.

Change the account name :-

Change the account name option let you change the name of current user account .You can Type the New account name and click on "Change Name ".

Change the password :-

You can change the password of current user by clicking on change the password.Enter the new password and confirm it by reentering then type the password hint and click on "Change Password".

Remove the password :-

If you want to remove the current password of particular user .Click on Remove the password and hit "Remove Passsword".

Change the Picture :-

Click on "Change the picture" to choose from vast selection of images to repersent the account on the login screen .Select the picture and click on "Change Picture" .

Setup Parental Controls :-

Change the account type :-

Change the account type option let you change the type of account .You can convert the Standard User into Administrator and vice-verse.You have to select the type of the account and click on "Change Account Type".

Delete the account :

Select delete the account if you want to delete any user account. It will give you two options :

Delete Files

Delete files will delete all the content of the user with user account .

Keeps Files

Keeps files will delete the user account but keep all the files (Documents, Pictures, Music, Favourites and Videos) and save it to your Desktop.

After selecting the option Click on "Delete Account" to delete the account completely.

Generally the router manufacturers use default username and password for the admin account.Is this secure enough with the default password ? if the password of your router is same as the default password anyone can enter in your router web interface and hamper your work. To improve the security of your network, you should change the administrative password of your router. Also, most of the users are not aware about the difference between the router password or wifi access point password . Router password is basically used to manage the router settings, firmware upgradation , Wifi access point management and many other important things related to router whereas the Wifi access point password is required if you want to connect any new device to your Wifi. You can change the password of your router by doing simple changes in router settings :

Step 1

Type "192.168.1.1" in the Web browser's address bar and press "Enter" to access the router's setup page. Usually you can use "192.168.1.1" to access the router's setup page and if that is not working you can google it to find the manuals for you routers .

Step 2

When you try to connect to your wifi you can see the access point ID of your connection along with ID's of other people in your neighbourhood. Now the question is , can they see your ID too ? An unsecured connection gives neighbours and strangers, access to your internet service. If they are smart enough with computers and networks they can scan your hard disk and steal your banking details. By doing simple changes into your router you can protect yourself from hacking .

What is encryption and how it can help you to secure your connection ?

Encryption is a way to enhance the security of a message or file by scrambling the contents so that it can be read only by someone who has the right encryption key to unscramble it. The process of scrambling the data is called Encryption and the reverse process is called Decryption. Encrypting your wireless network block the hackers to peep into your computer and also helps you to browse the internet in secure way. Most wireless routers have encryption turned off by default , so you need to turn it on manually. There are three type of wireless encryption standards which we can use to secure our connection.

WEP : - Wired Equivalent Privacy (or Wireless Encryption Protocol) is an older and weakest encryption method mostly available with eariler routers. If you are using an old version router you can go with WEP but it no longer recommended. WEP security is relatively easy to crack.

WPA : - Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is an improvement in the authentication and encryption features of WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy). WPA also provide built in authentication and stronger encryption than WEP. So you can also go with WPA , if WPA2 is not available .

WPA2/PSK : - Wi-Fi Protected Access version 2 is the complete and strongest encryption scheme for wireless networks. For best wireless security choose WPA2-Personal with TKIP encryption. WPA-PSK is a powerful form of WPA designed for use on home networks .

How to enable an Encryption on a Wireless Router ?

Click on Apply/Save and you are done , i will personally recommend you to change your password on quarterly basis and turn off the router when you are not using. It is better for the health of your router and it also keeps you secure from hackers .

As you browse the web , with any of the popular web browser like Chrome,IE ,Mozilla Firefox or Safari . Every web browsers store information such as browsing history, images, videos ,text within cache and downloaded files information .There may be sometimes , when you don't want other users on your computer to see this information, such as when shopping for a birthday present or when you are accessing the internet on your friend's computer or in office .Privacy mode is an way by which you can browse the Internet without saving any information about which sites and pages you’ve visited.Now the question is how we can use the privacy mode in different web browsers. Here we go

Internet Explorer : Inprivate Browsing

In Internet Explorer , you have to use the Inprivate browsing option to use the internet in privacy mode. To open the inprivate browsing mode we can either use Ctrl+Shift+P shortcut key or we can also open it by going in Tools ->InPrivate Browsing .

When you are accessing the internet inprivate mode , it will show the Inprivate tab on your address bar.

You can turn off the Inprivate mode by closing the current internet explorer windows .

Mozilla Firefox : Private Browsing

In Mozilla Firefox , you can access the privacy mode by clicking on to the Firefox button (Go into Tools menu in Windows Xp ) and select Start Private Browsing .You can also use the combination Ctrl+Shift+P to access the private browsing mode .

When you have clicked on Start Private Browsing ,Firefox generate an alert and ask you that would you like to Start Private Browsing .Click Start Private Browsing to continue. Check the box "Do not show this message again" if you don't want to receive this alert when you are turning on Private Browsing .

When you are browsing in Private mode , the Firefox button will be purple (for Windows XP the window title will say Private Browsing) during your session.

You can turn off Private Browsing session , by clicking on to the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP) and select Stop Private Browsing.When Private Browsing is off , the Firefox button will turn orange again (for Windows XP the Firefox window title will no longer say Private Browsing) .

Chrome : Incognito Window

In Chrome a feature called incognito window allows users to browse internet in private mode . You can open incognito window by clicking on to the wrench icon and then select New Incognito window or you can either use Ctrl+Shift+N to open an incognito window .

When you are browsing in incognito mode , it will show the hatman icon on your address bar .

If you want to go back into the normal browsing mode , you can simply close the current incognito window and browse the internet .

Safari : Private Browsing
In Safari , you can access the internet in private mode by clicking on to the settings button and select Private Browsing..It will pop up a confirmation message browsing mode . Click on OK to confirm that .

When you are browsing in private mode , it will show the private tab on your address bar.

While browsing a webpage using Safari, choose Settings and select Private Browsing (so the checkmark disappears), or click the Private button in the address field and click on OK to turn off the private mode .
