Here is something I have been toying with, it is a shoot with a dual camera setup. I have tried this several times, and the outcome took a little experimentation...&lt;br/&gt;

In this digital camera age, the idea of filters is long forgotten. Photoshop has added camera filters to its list of tools available in the digital darkroom. But there are still things which cannot be replicated on your computer. Something which I like to do is use everyday objects as lens filters. This can be anything from a ziplock bag to a piece of glass. By holding transparent and translucent object flush to the camera lens, you can produce some pretty cool effects. I achieved the look on this image of the stairway leading up to the house by simply blowing on the lens and fogging it up with my breath. Some of my favorite household filters are: ziplock bags Vaseline (be careful, it's messy) nylons (experiment with all of the wonderful varieties) a piece of window screen a piece of colored glass One of my favorite looks is what I call the Hollywood Glamour Shot, that classic Hollywood, soft-focus look. This is achieved by putting a thin plastic bag (ziplock bags or a bread bag with no writing on it works well) over the lens after focusing on the model and setting your exposure (which you may have to increase, depending on the thickness of the bag you are using). This is important because the lens has a hard time focusing once you put on the plastic bag. Pull the plastic tightly around the lens. The more wrinkles or bumps you have in the plastic, the foggier it is. Use a dramatic light source to help achieve that glam look.</itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>Digital,Photography,photography,photography,tips,and,tricks</itunes:keywords><description>FUN PHOTOGRAPHY TECHNIQUES

So please be sure and check us out there, or you can listen to the podcast directly from the link at the end of this article! Enjoy! A Podcast of this blog can be heard by clicking here! Photographing nudes is much more complex than just photographing people without their clothes on. The photographer must pay close attention to detail. Things which you can get away with in regular portraits become intense and glaring errors when shooting nudes. Three things to be aware of when working with nudes are reflections, poses and facial expressions. REFLECTIVITY OF SKIN When photographing nudes the biggest problem you are going to have is dealing with the all of the specular highlights on the skin. You are dealing with a lot of surface area from which the light will reflect. Think of a headshot and the hotspots that appear on the forehead. Or what a nightmare it is if the person is bald. Skin is hard to photograph because of its reflective quality. One way to remedy this is to use an anti-sheen powder. The powder takes away the shine. It is similar to foundation powder but is clear. You can use it on every skin tone and type and on men and women alike because it is colorless. Apply it to the shiny areas with a large round brush in even, circular strokes. The other alternative is to use baby oil, which gives the skin a wet, shiny quality. I use this technique when shooting athletic men, with their chiseled, greek god-like bodies. Body type and look and feel of the final shot will determine whether or not you should use this technique. BODY POSITIONING How the model poses (or how you pose her) will make or break your shot. You must know beforehand the type of image you want to produce. If you want a classical, Ingres-like nude, look at examples. Don't limit it to photographs either. Look at paintings and illustrations to see how they posed the models. Take notes and create a shot list of the poses you want to try. Doing research before the shoot will save you a lot of grief and frustration and make your shoot more successful. It also gives you direction and purpose in the shoot which you will need to communicate to your model. FACIAL EXPRESSIONS Like posing, facial expressions need your attention. A slight change in the lips, for example, can change the look and feel of the image. The image can go from innocent school girl to dominatrix in a single frame. I did a series on Biblical icons and was shooting Eve. The model kept giving me these seductive facial expressions, which was not the Eve I was looking for. Slight nuances in the way she smiled or held her head changed the shot from Eve to Jezebel. Again, it goes back to the look you want to achieve. If I had wanted Jezebel, I need to know how to achieve that look. Working with nudes is challenging but also fun. The more homework you do beforehand, the better your chances of getting the shot you want.</itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>Digital,Photography,photography,photography,tips,and,tricks</itunes:keywords><description>WORKING WITH NUDES

So please be sure and check us out there, or you can listen to the podcast directly from the link at the end of this article! Enjoy! A Podcast of this blog can be heard by clicking here! Your shoeboxes are full of them. They are falling out of your albums. And now they are stuffed into one gigantic folder on your computer, eating up memory like a linebacker at Chuck-A-Rama. You need help, fast. Managing your digital images needs, well, management. Ignoring it will not make it go away. The longer you wait, the more daunting and painful it will be. And perhaps you are already at that point. If that's the case, start with future shoots and then go back and do the other digital images in smaller chunks. Managing your digital images is a process, sometimes enjoyable, sometimes painful. But you've got to do it . And staying current is the only way to keep the little buggers from creeping up on you. TRIM THE FAT The first step in your management process is to trim the fat. You do not need to, nor should you, save every digital image you take. Every batch of downloads has worthless digital images &amp;ndash; out takes, the one little Joey took of your foot, or the one where you chopped off your daughter's head in the group shot. Edit, edit, edit. Look at your digital images with a critical eye and delete the bad ones, and believe me, there are a lot of them. SORT INTO FOLDERS Now that you've trimmed the fat a wee bit, you need to start organizing your digital images , putting them into folders based on the photo shoot. This could be a subfolder of a month and year. Create a system which works for you and stick to it! RENAME AND RESAVE Once you've organized them, you now need to rename and resave them as anything but a jpeg file. Without going into too much detail about jpgs, they are the devil and should never be used. Jpeg files are compressed files and information is thrown out every time you save it in order to reduce the file size. I recommend you save them as as tiff. Renaming your files will help you to find them at a later date and give meaning to the shot. What does IMG_983.tiff tell you about the photograph? Nothing. Joeys_8th_005.tiff on the other hand lets you know this a shot from Joey's 8th birthday party. Again, use a naming system which makes sense to you. INPUT METADATA An digital image's metadata is vital. You may not think so now, but it is time well spent. METADATA helps you and search engines find your digital images . Metadata houses such information as the photographer, contact information, location of the shoot, the date, keywords, copyright information, website address, a description of the event, and so on. If you fill out the metadata immediately after each download, it will not be so overwhelming and will save you time and headaches in the long run. BACKUP Whether you are caught up in your organization process or not, you need to back up frequently as to not loose any of your digital images . I backup every Sunday. Have a set day to do it. Set an alarm or write yourself a note. I cannot over emphasize how important this is. My hard drive crashed three times last year (stupid PCs) and I lost a lot of digital imagery which I can never recover. With digital images , you have no negatives stuffed in a shoebox under you bed to fall back on. An external hard drive is your shoebox. </itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>Digital,Photography,photography,photography,tips,and,tricks</itunes:keywords><description>MANAGING YOUR digital images

When you needed to find an image you could just pull down the overflowing shoebox from the closet shelf and sift through the images until you found what you were looking for. This is not the case with digital photographs. In fact, if you have continued this practice of throwing your images into your digital shoebox, I call you to repentance. You penance, however, is not as simple as saying ten Hale Mary's and an hour of community service. You have some work do. But you'll thank me in the end (yes, Mother). When it comes down to it, there are really only two things you need to worry about when managing your digital images: editing and organization. THE EDITING PROCESS The editing process is taking a critical eye to your images and deleting the bad ones, the out takes, the out of focus shots, and anything else that is not worth keeping. What isn't worth keeping are the shots with poor composition, poor lighting, bad exposure, or are just plain boring. Your first impulse to either keep it or delete it is usually accurate. The more you stew about it, the more you think that the shot isn't so bad and you end up keeping crap. You cannot fall into the trap of being a digital pack rat, saving and hoarding every image you take. It's about quality, not quantity. Delete, delete, delete. We don't need more imagery. We need more creative, innovative, and inspiring imagery. When it doubt, delete it. Now, I know you think this is harsh, but really, do you need 500 images of your trip to Paris? Do your friends want to sit through a slide show of 500 pictures from Paris? (In case you're wondering, the answer is no.) MAKING SENSE OF CHAOS Now that you've whittled down your 500 shots from your jaunt to Paris, you need to put them in their appropriate place. How you organize your images is up to you, but you do need to create a system and stick to it. Here is a snap shot of how I do it. This system works for me. Under the pictures folder I have categories as well as folders with the name of the shoot. These are the projects I'm still working on. They might still need to be edited, delivered to the client, or are awaiting a model release. Whatever the reason, I know that I'm not finished with them. This way I can see exactly what projects I need to work on: Alyssa, San Juan Island WA, and Xagave. When I am finished, they go into a category folder and then subfolder, or into another folder called finished projects, where it awaits being transferred to my external hard drive to be archived. The finished projects folder is for images I don't need to access frequently (e.g. my portfolio or website) and therefore don't need to be taking up valuable space on my hard drive. And speaking of backing up, you need to have a specific day (for me it's Sunday) to back up your files. The second part of organizing your images is to fill out the metadata for every image. Metadata makes an image or file more searchable by you and the search engines. This information is invaluable and is a necessity. Your computer and search engines (when you upload images) crawls the metadata, archives it, and catalogues the information. Here is a snap shot of the metadata form in Adobe Bridge. This gives you an idea of the completeness of the information you can attach to a file. You can create a template with information that doesn't change (creator, phone number, website, etc., and apply it to every image and then just fill in the fields which do change (keyword, description, location, etc.). FILE NAMING First of all, you can't leave the name of your file IMG_245 because that does not tell you anything about the image. Renaming your files helps you know what the image is of and it helps your computer in its search for that image. Like the filing system you have c</itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>Digital,Photography,photography,photography,tips,and,tricks</itunes:keywords><description>MANAGING YOUR IMAGES AND NAMING FILES

This podcast was recorded by Gino, a talented multi dimensional actor who does film, theatre, voice work and much much more. This is really one of those blogs that really has no purpose, other than just some rambling things clinking around in my head. :} I was thinking the other day, how many funny things I just say everyday,well maybe they are not funny, but they are kind of odd. How did I pick these up? Well I really think that as we travel through life when we meet people, and the ones we get to know, some part of them ends up with you to carry through your life, some good , some bad, some OK. For me every single person I have ever got to know I have learned something from them , in some way, shape or form. That is a much heavier discussion for another blog. For this blog I am going to recall certain sayings I have picked up over the years and I know we all have them, sometimes it is just fun to remember who said it and when, so here are a few: HFMIC- Head Mutha Fucka in Charge&amp;ndash;I first heard this when I was in high school and worked at Shakey&amp;rsquo;s pizza , the guy&amp;rsquo;s name was Louis Amos, he was quite a colorful character and I learned a ton from him. If you are out there I would love to chat with ya. Fo Sho- Another one from Louis Guess What? Chicken butt, you know why? Cause it is all dry? - While I have never understood what in the hell this means, it is still kind of funny- The guy I heard this from was a guy I went to High School with Micheal Hathaway. That&amp;rsquo;s a FAC, JACK- Well that one came from Wolfman Jack, he was a classic , I wish he were still alive. It&amp;rsquo;s your world , I just live in it- Honestly I can&amp;rsquo;t remember who said this to me, but I know it was a very long time ago! That bitch is so ugly it looks like someone hit her with a number 12 ugly stick- Another one from Mike Hathaway, I still want to know who came up with the system to measure ugliness via sticks and what is the highest number? You must be having a Manual moment- From a guy I work with, Frank Self, it refers to the high school I went to in Denver, and lets just say it was a bad school. Slop Bucket- This is a great one, it mean basically a sloppy person Made me brand new- This one is a great saying it basically means, when you have gone through Old School- sort of been way overused but I still use it , since I am from the old school! My hair is on fire- I got this one from an IT guy, it is so true when you are working on a big project I am going to go apeshit on his ass- I used to use this one back in the 70&amp;rsquo;s , and stopped , then I met a salesman who said it and it was baaaaak. Now I have my wife and all her friends saying it. I think my head is going to explode- This one I made up on my own, and use it quite often. When I do use it I am very animated so people think it is great, although at the moment I use it , I don&amp;rsquo;t find it very humourous. WTF- thanks to the Internet for making this one a reality, although I have said it for years, it does work for almost any situation. Polish the Turd- I picked this one up from another IT guy Bob Kenney. It was a term we used at Motorola when someone could not make a decision. We called this process polishing the turd. Here are some business buzz words that I really hate and try like hell not to say, I won&amp;rsquo;t put down the persons name who says them but you know who you are! At the end of the day- What happens then? I had to do a dive and catch- WTF? It is, what it is- This has got to be the phrase that replaced Y2K for the 00&amp;rsquo;s We are going to have to do a deep dive on that- Funny thing is it almost never happens. We are going to take that conversation offline- Same thing, usually the conversation nver happens When have you pinged that customer last? What are they a node on the Internet? Best of Breed- Are we raising dogs or horse here? Been There done that</itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>Digital,Photography,photography,photography,tips,and,tricks</itunes:keywords><description>HMFIC

OK here&amp;rsquo;s the deal, I have a 3 year old Bassett Hound his name is Wilbur. I love the dog, but I feel so bad, since no one in the entire family ever plays with him, so I decided it was best to find him a great home. We hope to find him a home where he will be happy and well cared for, a family that loves him, and plays with him daily.-ter Well here is Wilbur&amp;rsquo;s story: Hello my name is Wilbur, I live in a dog run with another dog named Maxx. Maxx is cool but he is kind of annoying since he is like 12 years old, which is like 180 years old in dog years, thing is, he still thinks he is 2. Maxx acts like a two year old , fetching balls, and barking, what an idiot, but hey the people who own us think it is cute so hey more power to him! I don&amp;rsquo;t know what the deal is, but the people who live in the house, occasionally come out to see us, Maxx and I. They say hi, and make goofy faces and sounds, we think it is a hoot, the people must smoke ganga or something. We don&amp;rsquo;t care since after all we are dogs, and we love everything! Well except cats, and the occasional bird who shits in our food! Anyway, so I think the people want to find me a new home, they think I might be happier with a new family, I am not sure since I kind of like these folks just fine. I mean after all , they hooked me up with a couch in the dog run. A COUCH, I mean who does that? That is totally cool since I spend the day snoozing on the couch, it is the shit! They also take real good care of me, they feed me daily, they pet me, and again make those funny faces at me, I love that! So this past Sunday, well I think it was Sunday since I don&amp;rsquo;t really keep track of the days, you know I am very busy snoozing on the couch. So this past Sunday some people come over to see me, and I am kind of skeered, since the one guy I can tell is not really into Basset Hounds. I can totally understand that since I do slobber allot, and my bark is pretty loud. The guy just looks at me. One of my peeps tells the family, I am a great dog and need some attention, all I need is a good bath and my nails trimmed.I also have valley fever, which really sucks cause I have to get meds, well it sucks for the people, but I actually like it since every night they give me pills in a HOT DAWG. God do I LOVE HAWT DAWGS!!!!!! The new people decide they like me, well the lady anyway,so they get a leash and take me. They lead me to the car, and then I decide , you know what, I don&amp;rsquo;t really want to go. It is tooooo late they drag me to the car and put me in the back seat with two little girls. The little girls are great , but I really don&amp;rsquo;t like that guy.He just keeps eye balling me! WTF? The guy drives off, and as he does I have a diabolical idea. You know dogs are simple creatures, but on occasion we have some great ideas. The time I pooped on the pool deck was not one of my better moments, but we try. So I stand up in the back seat, crouch, the little girls look at me and ask the guy what is the doggie doing? As I crouch, I begin to push. You got it! I push out the biggest, steamiest piece of crap I have ever took! It was a total work of art I tell you. Nice and large! You know what, taking a dump there on the car seat was probably one of the most gratifying moments of my doggy life, I mean who gets to do that? The little girls look at me in horror, I am not sure actually, it was not that big of a deal to me anyway. I was so proud I took a dump, then I started barking at the guy, he only glared and I think he started cussing. The little girls screamed in anguish, and moved as close to the windows of the car that they could get. What is this? I think I felt the car do a 180. Yep it did, the cars tires squealed , and it seemed we were going back to my peeps house! Wow my diabolical scheme worked like a champ. The lady that actually liked me, took me out of the car and walked me to the door.</itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>Digital,Photography,photography,photography,tips,and,tricks</itunes:keywords><description>He Pooped in the Car

Maybe because we are used to seeing the world in color we like the uniqueness of seeing something without it. Black and white images somehow transcend the snapshot in a way that color never can. Here are some suggestions of how you can improve your black and white photographs. SHOOT IN COLOR Shooting in color gives you the flexibility of having that image in color and black and white. Shooting in black and white mode limits you to black and white images only. Sometimes the image just doesn't turn out as well as you thought it would in black and white and it's nice to be able to switch back to color. SHOOT IN RAW You should always shoot in RAW. Not just for when you're planning on shooting in black and white but across the board. RAW is your digital negative which you can always refer back to. The changes you make in the RAW adjustment window do not alter the pixels or damage your photo. That can't be said for Photoshop. It is simple to convert and automate the process of converting your color images into black and white ones in RAW. If you current digital camera does not shoot RAW, make sure your next one does. USE A LOW ISO You should be using the lowest possible ISO anyway in your color photography, but it is even more important when shooting in black and white because any noise in the photograph will be more noticeable. COMPOSE THE SHOT Composition needs to be carefully pondered and deliberate. Unlike color photography, black and white has no color to lead your eye around the image or to create a point of interest. It is all about shapes, lines, and textures. LOOK FOR CONTRAST Black and white imagery is obviously not about color. It is about shapes, lines, textures, movement, and all the other elements and principles of art. But most importantly, it is about contrast. Use contrast to tell your audience what's important and what's not. High contrast will immediately make your black and white photography more compelling to look at. EXPLORE COLOR FILTERS While using a color filter on your digital camera is perfectly acceptable, it's not necessary. Photoshop has color filter options in both the camera RAW and under the Filters drop down menu. Color filters change the tones in the photograph to produce different results. For example, the colors green and red are the same tone in black and white. So if you are photographing a red rose, there will not be any difference in tone between the rose and the stem. Using a color filter will change the tones in the image to distinguish between the red and the green. Black and white photography is my preferred medium. It has a way of elevating an image to higher level &amp;ndash; if it's done right. Two of my favorite black and white photographers are Michael Kenna and Rodney Smith. Both of these photographers understand that shooting black and white is an art and a skill which needs to be studied and practiced.</itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>Digital,Photography,photography,photography,tips,and,tricks</itunes:keywords><description>BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY

I'm sitting at the coffee shop on a Sunday morning in a leather manhattan chair. My soy latte is cooling on the end table to my left. The Shins are playing in the background as I wave to a friend who just walked in the door. I'm working in PhotoShop, removing a few pieces of lint from the model's black blazer when my mouse freezes. I can't force quit. I can't ctrl+alt+del. I hold down the power button to shut off the machine. I wait 15 seconds and turn it back on. It seems to be booting up just fine. Then, the blue screen of death appears. I'm not too worried. I reboot. Blue screen. I reboot. Blue screen. I'm sweating now. I have 6 photo shoots on there which have not been delivered to the client. I don't have a backup of my contacts. I have dozens of emails which have vital information from my job search. I haven't backed up for months. Gone. Everything was gone. I had to wipe my hard drive clean and rebuild my laptop for the third time that year. I lost data, images, a portion of my professional network, all of which I had no way of retrieving. I still don't have it. There is no excuse for not backing up. It's quite painless, really. I make it a point to not only backup on an external hard drive, but to store information in multiple places. There are many places online to keep a second or even third copy of your data. Here are some of my favorites: GOOGLE DOCUMENTS is a great place to store docs, spreadsheets, and other text documents. It's free, and you can share the document with others. GOOGLE PICASSA makes organizing, editing, storing, and sharing your photos simple. You can make photo albums, slide shows, add tags, and share your pics effortlessly (I should get a kickback from Google for all my promoting efforts). FLICKR.COM and MYSPACE are other options for backing up, albeit, the space alloted you is limited. I use these sites for portfolio pieces. HOTMAIL, GMAIL or who ever hosts your email has their own platform for adding contacts, their phone numbers, email addresses, and other vital information. That way, when, not if, your computer crashes, you won't lose all of that valuable data. </itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>Digital,Photography,photography,photography,tips,and,tricks</itunes:keywords><description>BACKING UP YOUR FILES
