A couple of years ago, I started using this new system. First, I finished my 2016 Family Yearbook in a fraction of the time it would have usually taken me. Then I went ahead and finally finished my December Daily Project from 2009! It was such a relief to have those projects done and just look at Matthew's face! It was so worth it!

I was so excited to make finishing books a reality for more people, so I gathered up what I've learnt creating these projects into bite-size videos and created Simple Family Yearbook.

I've put my tried, tested and simplified process into this affordable, 5-step class.

This week I'm sharing my discoveries with you. So far we looked at the Project Life App, Digital Scrapbooking and Photo Albums.

My next stop was photo books.

Photo books made it simple to get photos printed. You can choose the size, cover style and the number of pages. The photo books are lovely and slim and most photo book companies have dozens of page styles and embellishments you can add. The down side is that it would still take as long to the choose photos, upload the files and create a photobook as it did to actually scrapbook individual pages! Oops!

Since my aim was to fill in a whole year that needed scrapbooking, that was not going to work for me! But I did like the photo book idea and that was part of the solution that I created.

Photo Albums

At the other end of the spectrum, I tried just printing photos and popping them in albums. It certainly was quicker to put photos in an album than to scrapbook them. But it still took me so much time to choose which photos to print. Some photos were horizontal and some vertical. and most albums don't accomodate both. Should I be writing on the back of these photos? What about telling the story of these photos? Plus I filled up those big fat photo albums in no time!

Templates

Templates are great for when you have the photos and journalling ready to go and wanted to get creative. You just add your photos and follow the placement guides for embellishments, journalling and titles. It's a little less time-intensive, but I'd still spend at least half an hour working on a page. Which is totally fine, but it didn't help me catch up any faster!

So I continued in my search. Maybe going back to the basics would help?

Project Life App

I love making quick pages in the app, but I wanted to have a bit more flexibility than a grid. Plus, here in Australia, I didn't have access to the printing either.

So it is certainly a great option to make quick pages, but then it was a matter of saving the image, moving it to my computer and then uploading to a photobook site. It would at least be a little simpler if I lived in the US, as you can print right from the app. But alas, I'm in Australia!

So I continued the search for a better solution.... I went back to Photoshop Elements for my next attempt!

I love scrapbooking and making pages from scratch, but even scrapbooking over 100 layouts a year there are still years I haven't documented yet. It takes about an hour for me to make a page so an album takes 30+ hours to create!

So it's not a realistic option for 'catch up' scrapbooking when you have your days filled to the brim with work, family and other commitments.
