With all of the new smartphone technology, the typical point and shoot market has taken a nosedive. The truth is, the quality of smartphone cameras comes closer to a DSLR than a point and shoot especially with available apps.

I’ve been taking pictures and videos for years with my phones including the video below from my iPhone. I’ve decided it was time to take the plunge and purchase my first DSLR camera for better quality and control of my photos and videos. I’m sure I have a lot to learn but for now here is an unboxing of the Canon EOS Rebel T4i/650D.

Jailbreak iOS 6 – 6.1 iPhones, iPods, & iPads With Evasi0n Now!

The Evad3r team has been working diligently for an untethered jailbreak for iOS devices running iOS 6.0 through 6.1. While they’ve had a few exploits in the works, they wanted to wait for Apple to release 6.1 to see if any of them were patched and to also give a longer life jailbreak.

Well today is launch day for the Evasi0n untethered jailbreak tool. Just as you would expect, it is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux and is a simple one click process.

This process is compatible with all iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and iPad mini models running iOS 6.0 through 6.1

Keep in mind that before attempting to jailbreak your iOS device, it is important to backup just in case things go bad.

Steps to jailbreak your iOS 6 device with Evasi0n:

Connect your iPhone, iPod, or iPad via USB
Backup your device in iTunes (right click device on left pane and hit backup) or open iCloud and hit backup now
Download Evasi0n
Open Evasi0n from the directory you extracted to
Wait for it to recognize your device
Click Jailbreak
The jailbreak process will start and will reboot your device
Your device is now jailbroken and Cydia will be on the homescreen

The Evad3r team also states the following:

Backup your device using iTunes (or iCloud) before using evasi0n. If something breaks, you’ll always be able to recover your data.

Please disable the lock passcode of your iOS device before using evasi0n. It can cause issues.

Avoid all iOS and iTunes related tasks until evasi0n is complete. Why not just enjoy a brief break from the computer to stretch your legs?

If the process gets stuck somewhere, it’s safe to restart the program, reboot the device (if necessary by holding down Power and Home until it shuts down), and rerun the process.

iOS 6 – 6.1 Evasi0n Jailbreak Tool Almost Ready To Release

We have eagerly been awaiting a jailbreak for iOS 6 for A5 devices such as the iPhone 4S, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad Mini, and iPhone 5. Thanks to much hard work from the evad3rs team consisting of pimskeks, planetbeing, pod2g, and musclenerd we can expect that anytime.

Send Voice Messages And Video Recordings With Facebook For iOS

For those of us who have iPhones or iPads, most glance at their Facebook at least once a day. On top of being able to send messages and play games, you can now record voice messages and video messages to share with friends and family.

This is all part of the update to Facebook’s iOS app that rolled out today. The update adds access to your device’s camera so you can send a photo or video clip to one or multiple people.

adBrite Shuts Down And Ceases Operations

After raising $40 million since 2004 and creating the largest independent ad exchange to compete with Yahoo and Google, the company is calling it quits. This comes after a failed attempt to find a buyer for the company.

Many advertisers and publishers will be in shock come February 1, 2013. The fact is there have been larger players to enter the ad exchange market which includes Facebook’s FBX.

I know several website owners that will be affected as this is a source of income for them and they’re blogs, personal sites, and company sites.

Get An iPad 2 For Cheaper Price Than The iPad Mini

We are always on the lookout for bargains, especially when it gets closer to Thanksgiving and Black Friday sales.

Walmart will be starting their Black Friday prices at 8 PM Thanksgiving Day, which is Thursday November 22nd. On top of their list of featured items is the Apple iPad 2 listed for $399 with a $75 gift card which brings the price of the iPad 2 down to $324. Not bad Walmart!

To persuade more customers, Walmart is offering a 1 hour in stock guarantee so and if they do run out you can purchase a guarantee card to pick it up when it is in stock.

Now You Can FaceTime With iPhone Or iPad On AT&T’s LTE

Remember when AT&T discussed charging customers to use Facetime over data plans? Well it seems they have changed their tune after months of complaining customers and will allow regular tiered data plans to use Facetime on LTE phones and iPads.

AT&T says the changes will take effect within the next 8 to 10 weeks along with the following:

With the FaceTime app already preloaded on tens of millions of AT&T customers’ iPhones, there was no way for our engineers to effectively model usage, and thus to assess network impact. It is for this reason that we took a more cautious approach toward the app. To do otherwise might have risked an adverse impact on the services our customers expect – voice quality in particular – if usage of FaceTime exceeded expectations.

But, Wait For It..

You knew there would be a catch. Those grandfathered into the “unlimited” data plans are excluded from this. This means only customers that have the newer limited data plans will be able to use FaceTime over LTE.

Only being able to FaceTime over LTE means that you also must be using the newest iPhone or iPad model.

This is a step in the right direction for AT&T, but not quite what everyone is looking for. This is just another way to make user move to one of the tiered plans and make more money. The fact is if someone is still on the unlimited plan, they are obviously a loyal customer and should be treated that way. Not to mention having unlimited data is a main reason for not jumping ship to a competitor’s mobile network.

Facetime is a built in feature on the iPhone, so there shouldn’t need to be a scam to make more money. I think I’ll stick with Skype or Tango until they fix this

Xbox Surface Gaming Tablet By Microsoft

Microsoft Hitting The Mobile Gaming Market

As we all know, Microsoft is falling behind in the mobile market. In an effort to play catch up they just released their newest addition, the Surface 10 inch tablet. Now they have their sights set on hitting the 7 inch tablet market, and rumor has it that this will be pushed as a “gaming tablet” which will run the Xbox software now dubbed the “Xbox Surface”.

According to Verge and a leaked spec sheet, the Xbox Surface tablet will have an ARM processor, 288 MB of memory, 1280 x 720 resolution, and paired with a base station much like the Nintendo Wii U. The base station would contain dual PowerPC processors, 5 GB of memory, 250 GB hard drive, custom AMD graphics processor, ethernet port, HDMI/component video, 4 USB ports, optical audio, and support for four wireless game controllers.

Could this be the next generation of Xbox gaming? I can’t imagine the Microsoft would replace the standard Xbox unit and controllers with this new technology, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction into a new market.

As Android and Apple have taken over the mobile gaming market, it can only be understanding that Microsoft wants a piece of the action too. With so many kids and adults turning to the convenience of gaming on a tablet, it will be interesting to see if the Xbox Surface will be welcomed.

Mac OS X 10.9 Beta Testing On The Web

There have been several reports of tech related sites discovering visitors using OS X 10.9 in their analytics reports. While we haven’t seen it show up in our reports, 9to5mac, AppleInsider, CultofMac and others have.

We know this can easily be faked but it’s hard to rule out the fact that Apple may be in testing phases of a new OS X development. For the past few years, Apple has been releasing a new version of OS X on a yearly basis. OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion was just released in July, OS X 10.7 Lion in July of 2011, OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard in August 2009.

At this rate, expect to see a new unnamed OS X from Apple in mid 2013. If they continue the cat named theme, it’s uncertain what the next name could be as they are running out of options.

Is The iPad Mini Or Nexus 7 More Durable?

iPad Mini VS Google Nexus 7 Drop Test

Apple’s products have been known to be delicate pieces of hardware whether the iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad. The screens are especially brittle and crack under the least bit of stress or drops.

The Google Nexus 7 has scratch resistant glass and the back is of a textured rubber material where you would assume it has more tolerance.

Android Authority has put together a nice drop test between the two competing tablets. The outcome is pretty surprising as the iPad Mini held its own.

During the first drop the Nexus 7 did not survive like the iPad Mini, but they both were usable.

After the second drop, the iPad Mini had sever screen cracks and continued working. The Nexus 7 suffered worse damage and the screen became unresponsive.

Even after an additional drop, the iPad Mini remained intact and continued to work. It seems as if Apple is working on the durability of their products through our everyday mishaps.
