There’s been a lot of debate about the recent Google algorithm change which has seen lots of websites drop dramatically in the search engine rankings and even getting de-indexed altogether. Google seem to be on the warpath and hell-bent on destroying the livelihoods of many website owners.

One thing that is blindingly obvious is that Google is on an ongoing mission to clean up the SERP’s and is taking no prisoners. This means that some of us will be caught in the cross-fire even though we try out best to provide good content.

What this means is a massive drop in earnings for many of us and lots of head scratching on why it has happened, and more importantly, what to do about it.

The trouble is, the new algorithm will consist of a multitude of unknown factors so it’s very difficult to determine what is happening. Is it the number and quality of backlinks to a website, on page SEO, quality of content, too many affiliate ads or what?

One webmaster could have one experience and another could have a completely opposite experience. Their websites might look similar in many respects but they will be different in some critical elements. The only way to find out is to make small changes then see what happens.

Made-for-adsense Sites

I am sure one big reason for Google’s new algo change is due to so many people churning out MFA sites in their thousands, clogging up the index and offering a poor user experience, which is something that Google hates.

Any site that remotely looks like an MFA site is likely to get deindexed or drop like a stone in the rankings. MFA sites looks like they are being hit hard and when found the owner’s adsense account is likely to be banned.

Not only that, when anything like this becomes too saturated it no longer becomes effective anyway.

Sites with Crap Content

I have lost count of the number of blogs I have some across with articles that have been mashed up from various sources and make absolutely no sense. They are so ridiculous they can actually be quite funny to read at times. They will definitely fail any human reviewer however. No one will miss them anyway, apart from the owners.

The thing is, if you want to keep in Google’s good books it’s time to get back to basics and give your website visitors and Google what they really want, good original content, not spun and rehashed nonsense. It’s hard work if you write it all yourself, and the results might not be immediate but it usually pays off in the long term.

When all is said and done, the new Google algorithm will have a lasting impact on many of us. It’s just part of a constantly changing internet and you have to change with it whether you like it or not. Those that don’t will disappear down the internet memory hole forever.

It’s very easy to create ads, and all you have to do is put a small piece of code on the page and the ads will be showing almost immediately. The Easiest Way To Outsell Other Affiliates

If you’re an affiliate marketer, then you’re always looking over your shoulder to see if the competition – your fellow affiliates – are catching up to you. Or, worse than that, you’re looking up ahead trying to catch up with them!

At times any market can be crowded, so selling the same thing to the same group of people means you’re lucky to get just a small share of the market. Imagine having thirty-five Wal-Mart stores in one small town, all competing with each other to get the local business. You get the idea.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. The easiest way to outsell other affiliates is this…

Turn your AFFILIATE offer into a UNIQUE offer!

You see, most affiliates try to sell the product as is. If your prospects are shopping around, they’re going to skip all the “buy from me” offers.

Instead, they’re going to focus on those offers that give them an incentive to buy. And that means you can outsell the other affiliates simply by offering a bonus product to anyone who buys through your affiliate link.

I’ve been teaching this concept since 2001 and, all things being equal, those affiliates who put this into practice will outsell those who don’t virtually 100% of the time.

It’s a very simple strategy. Let’s break it down into three steps…

Step 1: CHOOSE Your Incentive

Your goal is to make your offer stand out from the crowd by offering an incentive to buy from your link, thereby boosting your conversion rate. And that means you need to offer a bonus that enhances or otherwise complements the affiliate product.

Did you catch that? Your bonus should “enhance” or “complement” the product you are promoting as an affiliate. That’s what makes for the best incentive.

Let me give you a “real” case study (not made up … actually done by one of my customers).

A customer – who is also one of my affiliates – recently purchased my Multiple Streams Theme wordpress blog theme. He loaded it to his site. Then, he invested a little time writing a small report that teaches how to customize and tweak the theme. He offered this small report, filled with insider shortcuts and tips for enhancing the theme, as an incentive to anyone who ordered the Multiple Streams Theme through his affiliate link.

Brilliant.

I’m just guessing, but I bet the report didn’t take him half an hour to write. He just logged his own personal experiences. And yet it has high value to anyone who has plans to order the theme.

That’s how you outsell other affiliates. You turn your AFFILIATE offer into a UNIQUE OFFER.

One way to do this is by reading the sales letter for the product and choosing one particularly enticing bullet point.

Example #1: If the sales letter tells prospects they can learn how to get traffic from social media sites, then you can create a report called “27 Ways to Use Social Media to Drive Traffic to Any Website!”

Example #2: If the sales page for a diet book promises a month of low calorie recipes to customers, you can create a supplementary low calorie recipe book and give it away to those who buy from your link.

Example #3: If you’re promoting a dog training book and you see a bullet point about eliminating bad behaviors such as jumping, incessant barking, digging in the gardening, etc. You can create a report or even a video called, “The Secrets of Training the Perfect Dog: How to Keep Your Dog’s Paws Off Your Guests, Off Your Counters and Out of Your Garden!”

The point is, your freebie should be directly related to the affiliate offer. You want your prospects to buy through your link just because the incentive is so enticing.

What kind of incentive? You can do videos, software, coaching, advertising, installations, services, etc.

But, “pound for pound”, the best and easiest incentive to create is a small report.

Step 2: CREATE Your Incentive

Once you decide on the topic, your next step is to create the bonus product. If you’re creating a short report or video, you can probably finish it in one day. Otherwise, you can hire a trusted freelancer to do it, which frees your time to focus on marketing the offer!

Tip: You find ghostwriters on sites like WarriorForum.com, Elance.com, and GetAFreelancer.com. You can also ask for recommendations from your colleagues via your social networks or on business forums.

Step 3: CIRCULATE Your Incentive.

Finally, your last step is to promote your offer by letting prospects know that anyone who buys the affiliate product using your link will get the bonus product.

Let your list know. Tell your blog readers. Tweet about it. Purchase advertising. Distribute free marketing materials such as ezine articles. Mention it in sig files at forums. You know the drill.

Now, there are a few ways to deliver the product:

1. On the download page. If you’ve developed a relationship with the product vendor, he may agree to set up a special sales page that promotes the bonus plus a special download page so that customers can download it instantly after purchasing.

2. Manually. You can have customers forward their receipts and then you send them the link to the bonus.

3. Automatically. You can also set up a special email address with an autoresponder, so that anyone who sends you a receipt gets the download link automatically. (Naturally, some people will try to “cheat” this system.)

And there you have it – the simple three-step strategy you can use to outsell your competitors and put more money in your pocket.

I was having a clear out of one of my email inboxes the other day and found something I completely forgot about. It was something I wrote to a subscriber sometime last summer in response to his struggles at making money online.

I understood exactly where he was coming from because just about everyone faces the same problems – including me. Instead of just sending the email into the digital wastebasket, I thought it would make a good post, and possibly help somebody else.

Here it is, with some parts removed for privacy reasons.

Hi,

First of all, don’t listen to people who have negative viewpoints as they will only put you off.

Now, to be honest with you, the internet marketing niche is probably the toughest one to break into so I would advise you to go into other niches if you want to make money.

I started out by building one Wordpress website in the relationship niche and like many, I thought money would come rolling in from affiliate sales. I knew nothing about Wordpress and FTP but I learned as I went along. I am technically-minded and had done a lot of computer programming so it wasn’t too hard to get my head around.

To flesh out the site I used content from the product merchants I was affiliated to and wrote some articles myself. I also submitted my own articles to article directories to get traffic. That was it really. I thought traffic would come pouring in. Little did I know at the time.

I didn’t make a single sale for a couple of months and the first year I only made around $1000 dollars from it. I used this small amount of money to build more websites in other niches. That first site of mine has been changed a lot since I started it but it’s been #1 on Google for a couple of years now and gets very steady traffic. It has good content and fills a certain need for many people.

The point here is to only go into niches that give people something they really need.

Domains don’t cost much and it won’t take long to create a site with Wordpress and add some unique articles. You can write them yourself, rewrite some PLR or you can have them written for you for a few dollars each.

Getting traffic is the hardest part and where most people give up. To build traffic submit your RSS feeds, submit your posts to social bookmarking sites, Web 2.0 properties, comment on blogs, post on forums, create free blogs linking back to your main site, all the usual promotional tactics.

Once you have built and done some promotion for a site you can then monetize it with affiliate offers. If it makes just one sale a week it pays for your hosting many times over. Repeat this in a number of niches and soon you should have a steady income from multiple websites.

And be patient as it could take some time for some to get off the ground like my first site did.

Truth is though, to be a success in IM you must have your own product and brand yourself as an expert as you said. And, if you haven’t realised by now most IM products are knockoffs of others and once you have seen one you’ve just about seen them all.

So don’t go buying the latest hyped up IM product unless you are sure you need it as you will probably be wasting money. There is some absolute rubbish being promoted but there are a few quality IM products once in a while. Whatever you do, don’t fall for the get rich quick stuff. If it worked why are they selling it to you?

As for tools, Market Samurai is really good for keyword research and lots more beside… in fact I used it today to quickly find some RSS feeds to add to one of my sites.

Bottom line is, get into multiple niches because all the gurus do that and make a killing at it.

It will mean lots of hard work and can be very boring at times but think of the rewards.

The naysayers will look at you differently then, won’t they?

When searching online for a particular product that they are thinking of buying, people often like to read reviews about different products first. This is where a review site can be highly effective. One of the big advantages of setting up a review site is that you can make money by promoting multiple products from a single site.

If you have Cpanel on your hosting as most do nowadays, you can install Wordpress in just a few minutes using a script called Fantastico, which usually comes with your hosting package. This will create a database and install Wordpress without you having to do it all manually, which is great for newbies.

After Wordpress is installed, you need to upload your Wordpress review site theme using an FTP program. There are a number of free FTP programs available and I use one called Filezilla

It know it’s all a bit confusing if you are new to all this. I was once like you but now I can set up a Wordpress site very quickly. You will soon get the hang of it.

If you have been doing internet marketing for a while, I am sure you will have gathered a large amount of information, which is often scattered all over your computer in various folders.

One of the biggest problems for internet marketers is organizing all the information they have accumulated for various projects. If you are disorganized then your day-to-day internet marketing business will suffer. You will get frustrated and waste many hours a day just looking for files that you need.

If you decide to get yourself more organized you will face a few problems.

I am sure you will agree that the more people that visit your web site, the more money you make! But if no one can find your web site it won’t happen! If you can’t generate web traffic to your website, you may as well quit now!

Finding how to get web site traffic is one of the things that niche website owners find difficult. How frustrating is it to build a website and fill it with high quality content and no one ever sees it? I have been there trust me.

Bottom line: You have to improve web site traffic or it will die.

How to get more website traffic?

You could always buy website traffic I suppose but if you are just starting out then it may be beyond your financial reach for the time being. You could use article marketing but it’s time-consuming if you have to write the articles yourself, and can be expensive if you need lots of good quality unique articles.

Traffic – the lifeblood of any website.

No doubt about it, every internet marketing or business website needs plenty of traffic to survive. No traffic means no sales to pay for hosting or anything else for that matter.

The obvious question now is; what is the best way to drive website traffic?

There’s no doubting the power of article marketing for driving relevant traffic to a website.

It’s a deceptively simple formula...

• Write articles and submit them to article directories.
• Continue to do this on a regular basis.
• The more articles you write the more traffic you will get.

It sounds simple and it is…in theory.

There’s a little bit more to it though…

Let’s face it…so many articles to be found on the internet and on article directories are extremely vague and badly written to boot.

Most people will read the first paragraph and exit. Articles like this are not worth reading because they bring little value to the reader.

Therefore, to be a successful article marketer, you must write quality articles and present yourself as an expert in your chosen field. If your articles are well-written, interesting and highly relevant to your website topic then readers should also be interested enough to visit your website via the link in your resource box.

Here’s a tip for you…

After you have written your article read it a back to yourself a number of times as if you were just a reader. Did you find it interesting and informative? If not rewrite it until it is. Be brutally honest because your real readers will be much tougher judges than yourself.

When you are finally happy with your article it should be submitted to the top article directories.

Be sure each directory you are submitting the articles to is considered an authority by Google.

Your ultimate goal is to have your article reach the front page in the Google rankings, with the coveted top spot the main prize. Not always possible but if you don’t aim high you will always fall short.

OK…now you’ve got the traffic now what?

Even if you are successful at using article marketing to drive more traffic to your website, if your visitors find your content is of little value, they will exit at the click of a mouse button, defeating the whole purpose of getting them there in the first place

Your website visitors will want to see interesting and fresh content which shows a good level of knowledge on your website. If they do they will come back again and again. With a bit of luck you may get them to sign up for a subscription to your newsletter. It’s an indisputable fact that building your subscriber list is one the most important activities an internet marketer can do.

By following these simple guidelines, you will be able to drive more website traffic with every article you write. Each one is building up your online presence. It’s a fact that writing articles is time-consuming and can be tedious, so the difficult part is forcing yourself to take action. The ones that do get down to work will reap the rewards for years to come.
