It has been six month I last updated this blog. There are many thing happening in life at this time. Settling down to the new place of work and stay. Managing multiple roles in the organization and lot of other stuff that is keeping me busy now a days.

There are many things happening in the country which is also causing lot of concerns like terrorism, communalism, economic crisis. I am getting an urge to be an active blogger again would like to post many things which I am enjoying doing curretly like MySQL, Flex 3 and 4, Modular flex apps, Server optimization, Amazon EC2 to name a few. I am getting my hands on so many things at the same time but I have made a promise to myself that I will dedicate atleast 2 hrs a day to actively blog about something which I found it very interesting and I think that somewhere it will help some one to solve some problem.

Till then.. Keep an eye here!

Cheers!

Copied the concept of Flex book component which is having less functionality!!!

Definately I am not impressed by this, there is a growing community of Flex developers and we have really good ideas implemented. If you want to compete show us something new and original

I tried to digg in to the problem and found out that if u want to change the size of the map on resizing the container you need to provide the min width and min height in the source provided by yahoo

Check out this article in Flex docs

http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/2/docs/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm?href=00001733.html

Its saying about setting the minimum height and width of the component and my guess is that u have to set that in the YahooMapService.as file.

I am trying to look into that but busy with some other work.

Here is one more alternative that can be done

Instead of putting a container inside the vdividedbox and putting a map inside it, put map directly inside the vdividedbox and set the width and height of the yahoo map component as 80% and you will be able to resize it.

Here is the code

<mx:VDividedBox id=”vdb” right=”5″ top=”5″ bottom=”5″ left=”285″ >

<yahoo:YahooMapService
id=”myAS2Map”
UUID=”12345″
swfDomId=”{SWFDOMID}”
apiId=”{YAHOOAPIKEY}”
mapURL = “{MAPSWF}” height=”80%” width=”80%”
x=”10″ y=”10″/>

<mx:Canvas height=”100%” width=”100%” >
<mx:Label
text=”Add Components here”
fontWeight=”bold”/>
</mx:Canvas>
</mx:VDividedBox>

I hope this helps.

If there is anything else do write it to me.

Cheers!

Hi,

Girish had written a comment in my post of Yahoo maps communication toolkit , upto my understanding I think he is trying to put some marker whenever user clicks somewhere on the map.

I tried to solve the problem and was amazed to find out that point object which is returned by the onClick method of the map is of the type string

So its the question of some string manipulation and some of the type conversion and i am able to show the marker whenever user clicks on the map.

So here is the code I think it might be useful to others also

//Create the event listner which listens to the click event on the map
mapEventDispatcher = new MapEventDispatcher(myAS2Map);
//Attach the event listner to the click event of the map
mapEventDispatcher.addEventListener("onClick",mapClicked);

//Function to handle the click event
private function mapClicked(ev:MapEvent):void{

//Variable to hold the position of opening and closing parenthesis
var posofbracket1:int = new int();
var posofbracket2:int = new int();

//Variable to hold the string object which contains lat and lon information
var point:String= new String();

//Assign the latlon string to the point string
point = ev.lastResult.latlon;

//Find out the position of opening parenthesis
posofbracket1 = point.toString().indexOf("(");

//Find out the position of closing parenthesis
posofbracket2 = point.toString().indexOf(")");

//Slice the string so you have lat and lon comma seperated
var latlon:String= point.toString().slice(posofbracket1+1,posofbracket2-1);

//Split the lat and lon and store them in the array
var splitedLatlon:Array = latlon.split(",",2);

//Convert the lat and lon to number type
var latitude:Number = Number(splitedLatlon[0].toString());
var longitude:Number = Number(splitedLatlon[1].toString());

//Add a marker using this lat and lon values
latlonController.addMarkerByLatLon('WaypointMarker',longitude,latitude,null);
}

I hope that solves the problem

If you have any other query do write to me

P.S: You can achieve this by changing the as2map.fla file also :), but i like to work on Flex 2.0

Cheers,

Anupam

They call it intuitive user interface and thats what these all term like Web 2.0 and RIA mean.

If the user can sense what he needs to do by just looking at the UI of the application there will be a great leap in the future of enterprise application.

I hope we are not eating up the technical writers jobs

Here is the article that i found interesting from AMR research
