I got this on email from a colleague.

I do not know if it is true or made-up. However, I am sure it is worth sharing.

Madan Mohan Malaviya was a freedom fighter, author, editor & publisher of newspapers, educationist, staunch Hindu. He is credited with popularising the slogan “Satya Meva Jayate”. He was the first one to establish a private university in India which is based on the model of historical Nalanda, Takasheela Vidya Peethams.

When Malaviya was trying to build a good university, he had to overcome many difficulties and barriers. He worked with determination to start the university. There was a funds crisis; but he did not get disheartened. He went from town to town, met many rich people and traders to collect donations.

He went to the Nizam of Hyderabad (then reputedly the richest man in the world) to request him for funds. The Nizam was furious, “How dare you come to me for funds and that too for a Hindu University? ” He roared with anger, took off his footwear and flung it at Malaviya.

Malaviya picked up the footwear and left silently. He went directly to the market place and began to auction the footwear. As it was Nizam’s footwear, many came forward to buy it. The bids kept going up.

When Nizam heard of this, he became uneasy. He thought it would be an insult if his footwear were to be bought by someone for a pittance. So he sent one of his attendants with the instruction, ‘Buy that footwear no matter whatever the price be!’

Thus, Malaviya managed to sell the Nizam’s own footwear back to him, for a huge amount. He used that money to build the Banaras Hindu University.

Moral of the story:

“It does not matter what you have, but how you make use of what you have, in your Life & Business”

16 March 2012 was a massive day for Indian Cricket.

The God of Cricket, born in India, scaled a new summit which none else may, in our life time, may even imagine to reach.

It is as much or even more difficult as The God of Cricket’s Grand Father Sir Donald Bradman’s 99.96 test batting average.

Sustaining one’s focus, interest and stamina for such a long time – nearly 23 years is in itself a record.

Cricket is a game that requires a very high level of concentration and enormous amount of stamina which has to be sustained for long periods of time in every game.

Just one ball, good or bad, one poor shot, a silly mistake, lethargy while running, a brilliant catch, changing weather conditions, a deteriorating pitch, a devastating delivery causing injury or an umpiring error (partial or impartial) can send a batsman packing back to the pavillion.

Topping it all, is the pressure of living up to the expectation of millions of fans and a silly media, ready to forget your past heroics the moment you fail.

That Sachin has managed to overcome all these is what elevates him clouds and sky above the rest of all us, applauding mortals.

The last century may have taken a long time to come. He went close to the landmark on quite a few occasions in the past year, largely trying to fulfil the world’s expectations and to an extent his personal desire for the 100th 100. However, as he went near that summit, he stuttered a bit as if he suddenly needed the map for the familiar territory of the century land. May be the pressure of people’s expectations was walking alongside during each of his 33+ walks to the middle.

For all those who still have the temerity to question about the sanctity of celebrating this achievement, the answer lies in the fact that even the great master needed 34 sojourns to the crease to reach that summit. A century is that difficult in cricket. To score 100 of them?

Thats why he is GOD OF CRICKET.

What wishes will I make if I get the Allauddin’s lamp, asked my friend.

The selfless and contended person that I am, told him I will make the following:

1. Tendulkar’s 100th Ton before I retire (as he may not retire)

2. Laxman not getting caught at mid-wicket

3. Dravid being able to protect his stumps

4. Sehwag being able to hit full tosses for a six instead of to fielders

5. Ishant to take atleast two wickets a match

6. Indian bowlers bowing 5 overs at a stretch without conceding a four

7. Opposition not keeping any slip catcher for Ghambir (if possible no wicket keeper as well)

8. MSD showing some passion and imagination on the cricket field

9. and finally, though it will be a tough ask for Alladdin’s Lamp, a victory for the Team India overseas.
