The Harvest Rebellion will be at Tompkins Square Park in New York City on Saturday October 10th, 2009. Join us for this free event featuring a diverse lineup of musicians, speakers, and advocacy groups.

The music starts at 1:30pm with performances by David Peel & The Lower East Side, Cy Taggart, The Bowery Boys, Thinning The Herd, My Cousin The Emperor, Rosemary's Garden, & Dave Vegas. This special event will also feature guest speakers from the Farm Sanctuary who will provide information, educate and gain support.

The Harvest Rebellion is an annual music festival celebrating and showcasing a diverse blend of music, art, freedom of expression, and community. The festival provides a public forum for independent musicians, fans, and creative minds all of types to explore and enjoy non-violence, respect for the earth and our place on it, and a concern for others through music, education and community empowerment.

CINEMA CINEMA, the Brooklyn based indie-experimental 2 piece, gave birth to a new record release, their 1st full length, EXILE BABY, via Digitone Records/The Lumiere Label.
Drawering on Drawerings and focusing .., the striking 2-piece present a new direction in sound with their third release.

Treating the studio as a camera, they capture moving still pictures of their growth on this record. Epic highs, cold iron lows and cinematic musical movements. Driven and pounding drums ring like cannon's, chaotic splintered guitars chime with purpose. Vocals cry with the urgency of a dying man. Sit down and hear the cry of the EXILE BABY, a story about the end of the world, as we know it and the birth of the next.

The Harvest Rebellion will be at Tompkins Square Park in New York City on Saturday October 25th, 2008. The music will start at 12pm with performances by Soap, The Influence, Since1913, Cinema Cinema, and other great bands that will be announced soon.

Join us for this free event featuring great music, dozens of tables with political action groups, alternative media, Food Not Bombs and more. We'll also have several guest speakers who will entertain and provide information about various political and environmental issues.

2007 Summer Rebellion Festival

The 4th annual Summer Rebellion will be held at Tompkins Square Park in the east village of NYC on September 22nd, 2007 (last day of summer). The Summer Rebellion is the ultimate outdoor urban festival experience in its 4th year, this annual 1-day music blowout features 1 stage offering live music all day.The festival celebrates diversity in music and art including everything from alternative, rock n' roll, punk, folk, reggae and more.

Last year's Summer Rebellion performers included David Peel, and the lower east side, Soap, Red Metric, & Alizon Device. This year's Summer Rebellion will continue to provide free and exciting entertainment for all ages and musical tastes, plus a variety of food, information, political speakers, and other activities.

The Story

It all started in a small room in the back of my office with records, magazines, one-sheets, records, stickers, records, records, and more records. Friends and family helped and continue to, but there is one main thing I’ve learned by starting it from the ground and building it myself. The only things you get for free in the music business are passion and ideas. Everything else, from Soap shirts to mixing time, costs a lot and not just monetarily.

If we are all affected by everything around us, then we are part of the surroundings for everyone else. Digitone seeks to bring it home to the fans, consumers, kids (call them what you will) because that's where everything begins, in the kitchen, in the bedroom... or in this case, a small room in the back of my office.

The ultimate failure of “Do It Yourself” is that it so rarely becomes “Do It Ourselves.”

Digitone started in 2000 as a whim and became a lifestyle. There is no particular genre of music we corner other than what we know feels right. Our mission is to just release what we think is good regardless of genre or style. That is where the politics of the music business get messy. The problem with maintaining a politicized presence is that your ideals can turn to rhetoric, and rhetoric is inherently limiting and disempowering. And though Digitone seeks to encourage radicalism as an ideal, the musical output emphasizes aesthetics and innovation over any specific stance or message. Digitone and its bands comprise, not a collective, but a community; and just as a community isn't limited to one voice, it shouldn't be limited to one language.

Digitone’s not going anywhere until it goes somewhere. Bands come and go. Ideals are refined, reworded, and resought. But the music and the passion is what carries on.

Soap (The Band) To Release New CD - Lather

Richmond, VA - Digitone Records announces today the release of Soap’s new CD “Lather” which will be in stores March 21st. Gary Gaskin A&R for Soap made the announcement.

“Lather” is Soap’s second full length CD release. Offering eleven dynamic songs, it is a truly inspired blend by one of today's most gifted bands. “Lather” is a unique album that values the unknown areas of improvisation as much as the construction of towering compositions. On “Lather,” listeners are treated to lush, polyrhythmic tones that crackle with the brainy togetherness of jazz and the freewheeling attitude of rock. With hints of funk and fusion, Soap’s sound takes on a life of its own. Guitar solos are alternately ferocious and restrained, keyboards break the surface of the music and plunge back into its depths, and the drums and bass provide a constant backdrop of eclectic rhythm.

The CD was recorded at Apocalypse Cow, in Montgomery, IL, and mixed and mastered by Bill McElroy at Slipped Disc in Ashland, VA. Three singles “Out of Luck”, “Penguin”, and “Miles Dankis” from “Lather” will be released nationally for radio airplay March 24, 2006.

Soap will promote “Lather” with a 42 date summer tour starting May 26th and continuing through the summer with a final show at Tompkins Square Park in New York City August 20th.
