The Wall Street Journal has a ‘solid’ proof that Amazon is making an app store for Android. And they seem to have a black and white document on their hand to prove it. It’s apparently still unclear when the store will be launched or even what it’ll be called, and since so far it seems like Amazon is mainly talking to developers about this behind closed doors, some of the specifics might still be in the air. According to the WSJ, Amazon stipulates an app can’t be sold for less anywhere else and there’s a stranger requirement that the app can’t be on offer anywhere else for more than two weeks before it’s given to Amazon. That’s just rather confusing really.

Everyone’s into the tablet business these days, all thanks to Apple. So it’s not a shocker to see low-cost computer maker Cherrypal gotten into the tablet game. Its first entrant is the CherryPad America (huhu), a $188 tablet that packs a 7-inch resistive touchscreen, Android 2.1, an 800MHz ARM11 processor, 2GB of flash storage, a microSD card slot for expansion, built-in WiFi, and a 3200 mAh battery that promises six to eight hours of use.

What’s more, unlike some other low-cost Android tablets, Cherrypal says that the CherryPad will have full access to the Android Market, and it insists that it’s “neither an iPad killer nor an iPad clone, it’s a completely different product designed for a different market.” Yeah, what’s so different of a pad to another pad? Cherrypal also promised that an update to Android 2.2 will be available soon. The CherryPad America is available now through an online retailer zecozi.

What the hell is the thing above? It’s a touchscreen device, much like a kiosk perhaps. Displax is offering customizable Overlay Multitouch to screens ranging from 32- to 103-inches in size to add multitouch capabilities to existing screen. That’s a technology from the company, which manage to use a polymer film and place it on any conventional LCD, plasma, or RPTV and turn it into a touchscreen. Of kush, this service does not come cheap, which is priced at €1,300 ($1,805).

The company is also debuting a 42-inch Windows 7-based multitouch table that can detect up to four independent touches at once. The Oqtopus uses a specific kind of optical technology that allows bare fingers, styluses and even gloved hands to operate it, but with a starting price of €4,500 ($6,250), I guess this will not be your typical touchscreen computer.

It seemed that Logitech cares about your burning skin issue. And to reduce the possibility of burnt skin and skin cancer due to laptops on the lap, they’ve unveiled the new Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N550, a comfy lapdesk that creates a theater-like entertainment experience around the home. A follow-on to the popular Logitech® Speaker Lapdesk N700, which is designed for laptops up to 16-inches, the Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N550 delivers premium sound and comfort to people with laptops that are 14.1-inches or smaller. Works even with Atom netbooks, and it’s also cheaper than the N700. The look however, is somewhat rather identical

“Lapdesks are the unsung heroes of the laptop and netbook world,” said Denis Pavillard, vice president of product marketing for laptop accessories. “The Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N550 solves the two complaints people most often report about their laptops and netbooks – poor audio quality and laptop heat. Using this one product can dramatically improve the experience people have with their laptops.”

The Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N550 features precisely placed integrated stereo speakers that sit on either side of your laptop and deliver rich, full stereo sound. The lapdesk’s 4-layer, heat-shielding design, combined with the soft, air-mesh fabric, helps make laptop use more comfortable. The Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N550’s angled base raises your laptop screen to a comfortable viewing position, and integrated foldable bumpers on the lapdesk surface help keep your computer in place.

Logitech’s newest lapdesk does not require any software installation. Just plug in to any of your Macbook, laptop, or netbook USB port and it’ll run smoothly.

From the folks that turned your iPod nano 5G into an underwater camera. Now there’s a new armband for your diving activity, and it’ll go well with your Apple toy. H2O Audio’s Amphibx Grip is specifically designed to keep your new iPod nano and iPod shuffle shielded from the harmful, oftentimes fatal effects of liquid, promising a “100 percent watertight and secure seal that provides waterproofing up to 12 feet,”

and that includes full touchscreen and button operation. $60 and they’re yours. And well, the odd thing about this is that the waterproof earbuds does not come with the package. But the company will be more than happy to sell them to you for a price. Funny, right?

A cellphone modder known as hyperX has developed some custom tweaks to improve the quality of the stills and videos of Nokia’s latest touchscreen baby, the N8. First is a hack to enable 720p30 video, a slight improvement over the 720p25 default. That’s demonstrated after the break, along with a continuous autofocus mod. More notable, however, is a tweak to enable nearly uncompressed images. Stock JPEGs coming from the camera clock in around 2MB, but the example image he’s provided (on the other end of that source link) is a rather heftier 11MB — truly a hack that will put your memory card on agony, but it’ll sure make those pixels shine. However, there’s no fair comparison ‘before and after’ of the hack, so we’re not sure how this has improved in our naked eye.

I’ve never like the Razer Naga that somehow ‘caused every MMO addict in existence to salivate uncontrollably’. I’ve held it, and used it few times, and I’ve never find the perfect way to hold it without having cramp on my hand. Now, Razer has gone and creates special editions of this button-fest mouse, a new duo of special ‘Naga’.

“After the phenomenal response we received for the Razer Naga, we’ve decided to create two collectible versions to offer our fans even more ways to dominate their game,” said Robert “Razer Guy” Krakoff, president, Razer USA. “We took the same functionality of full button remapping and macro capabilities of the original Razer Naga and rejuvenated the aesthetic design for a more immersive MMO gaming experience.”

The Naga Maelstrom and Naga Molten are undistinguishable to the original in terms of functionality, but there’s a decent chance you’ll want to lift your palm from the surface of these a lot more frequently. Both units are graced with special edition lids, and somehow still feature 17 “MMO-optimized” buttons while adding a touch of glow underneath. Both models are slated to ship worldwide next month, with pricing set for $79.99 / €79.99, which is the same price as the original ‘Naga’.

This sure is a funny world. We have already received rumour that AMD will be launching its Radeon HD 6000 series AMD Technical Forum and Exhibition 2010 in Taiwan on October 19, but word is that it won’t be the only new GPU on the block. There’s another rumour that the green monster might crash the party.

Digitimes reports that Nvidia also has a launch planned for that very same day. Nvidia is planning to launch the new entry-level GeForce GT 430, based on the GF108, on October 19. Along with that comes a price drop of the GeForce GTX 460 768MB to go up against the new Radeon HD “Barts” mid-range products.

While the launch of a low-end GeForce GT 430 GPU won’t do much to threaten the much faster “Barts Simpson” line, the lure of an even more competitively priced GF104 could drizzle a little bit on the AMD’s parade. Sorry Nvidia, but I’m more interested in what the dark side has to offer this time.

Barnes & Noble has launched its self-publishing portal called ‘PubIt!’. This platform is essentially designed to give independent writers a marketplace to sell their ‘art’.

“We’re delighted at the enthusiastic response we’ve received from thousands of independent writers and publishers who are eager to introduce their exciting works to a broader audience of readers”

“We’re delighted at the enthusiastic response we’ve received from thousands of independent writers and publishers who are eager to introduce their exciting works to a broader audience of readers,” said Theresa Horner, director, digital products, Barnes & Noble. “The launch of our PubIt! platform further reinforces our long-standing commitment to authors and writers, and offers a significant opportunity to provide an even greater selection of reading material to our millions of customers.”

PubIt! will convert files to ePUB for use on a wide range of e-readers. Yes, this means that the books will not only be on the Nook, but others too. Published titles will be available for sale within 24 to 72 hours after upload on the B&N eBookstore, and the company’s pretty proud of its “no hidden fees” policy. Unfortunately, the compensation model – which is being detailed today for the first time – has its flukes.

For PubIt! eBooks priced at or between $2.99 and $9.99, publishers will receive 65 percent of the list price for sold content; for those priced at $2.98 or less, or $10.00 or more, publishers will only receive 40 percent of the list price. In other words, there’s a no man’s land in that $10 to $15 range, so you’ll probably be settling for a $9.99 price point or reaching for the skies at $19.99.
