#3. Location. (This is obvious. They want to know that the area is poised to grow, low on taxes, lax on government regulations)

#4. Revenue. (Obvious)

#5. Qualified Staff. (Staff must be experts, well trained, courteous, able to further the brand)

It's interesting to note that revenue and expertise ranks below brand and technology. Dillinger & Kovach believes that this is because a great buyer can remedy the revenue and staff gap on their own. But what they cannot do is play catch-up to a gap in technology or brand.

So how will your firm respond to this need? Will your company be valued at $1M or $5M when you are ready to sell? With a dedicated effort to brand awareness and technology, you may be looking at a large gap in company valuation in your favor.

Cheers!

The North Carolina Association of Staffing Professionals was founded in 1966 as the Institute of Temporary Services to ensure that qualified temporary help services were available to business and industry while simultaneously providing flexible employment opportunities to the work force. From 1970 to 1994, the association solely represented temporary help companies. In 1994, the name was changed to reflect the myriad of services offered by staffing services. For many years, North Carolina had 2 associations in order to serve both Temporary Staffing Services (NCATSS) and the Recruiting Industry (NCAPS). In January of 2000, due to the diverse and blended services those in the staffing industry offer, the two associations joined forces to create the North Carolina Association of Staffing Professionals (NCASP).

The function of NCASP is to promote the staffing industry in a positive, educational and ethical manner and act as a watchdog for legislation which might adversely affect the industry. NCASP is the only trade association in NC that represents ALL areas of the staffing business – temporary, direct hire, long term staffing, executive recruiting, contract employment and everything in between.

NCASP is a proud chapter association of the National Association of Personnel Services (NAPS) and the American Staffing Association (ASA).

There are numerous benefits to being a member of NCASP. Some of those include:

* Networking and Business Opportunities
* Educational Opportunities
* Regional and State events as well as Industry Certifications
* Legislative Information & Advocacy
* Contact with Nationally Renowned Industry Leaders & Trainers
* Access to Great Vendor Products & Services
* Vendor Discounts
* Visibility on NCASP Website
* Listing in the Online Directory
* Quarterly Newsletters
* Added Credibility in Your Community and with Your Clients

The results showed that business-to-business firms that maintained or increased their advertising expenditures during the 1981-1982 recession averaged significantly higher sales growth, both during the recession and for the following three years, than those that eliminated or decreased advertising.

By 1985, sales of companies that were aggressive recession advertisers had risen 256% over those that didn't keep up their advertising.

A series of six studies conducted by the research firm of Meldrum & Fewsmith showed conclusively that advertising aggressively during recessions not only increases sales but increases profits. This fact has held true for all post-World War II recessions studied by American Business Press starting in 1949.

One major advertiser summed it up best. "When times are good, you should advertise. When times are bad, you must advertise."

Treat your agency as if it was your most important client.

What does it look like tomorrow? Much of it is guess work but we've kept our ears to the ground and there are some REALLY awesome marketing methods about to hit that will change the landscape of staffing and recruiting forever.
At Dillinger & Kovach, we are fortunate enough to be able to work with some of the brightest marketing minds out there. We couple our staffing and marketing knowledge, with their "corporate America" knowledge. Together, we are able to bring our customers marketing ideas and initiatives that are clearly ahead of the staffing ad agency pack.

Dillinger & Kovach client, Bob Eskridge of Eskridge & Associates releases his new book all about Physician Recruiting. We are pretty partial to the book cover design....

So You Always Wanted to be a Physician Recruiter describes the world of physician recruiting - a potentially lucrative field in which recruiters have the opportunity to help others better their lives through meaningful employment. Designed for both new recruiters and experienced professionals, the book guides recruiters through all aspects of a physician recruiter’s business, from identifying leads to following up after placement, while helping new recruiters to develop positive work habits and an optimistic, productive attitude.

The book provides recruiters with a step-by-step guide. It covers a range of topics, from setting up systems to managing information, to performing searches, managing job orders, and facilitating the interview process. Bob Eskridge, a seasoned recruiting professional, provides real-world examples, tips, and advice to avoid common recruiting pitfalls. The book not only describes situations and provides solutions, but it also offers actual scripts and letters for recruiters to use in their own presentations.

Physician recruiters must also become proficient in physician licensing and the laws that pertain to medical employment. Physician Recruiter equips recruiters to be experts in medical employment laws by explaining each of the U.S. Government’s relevant acts and legislation. An extensive section on immigration law helps recruiters prepare to recruit foreign physicians, while a chapter on contracts helps recruiters facilitate the negotiation of employment agreements.

Throughout the book is a message of positive reinforcement and a focus on ethical treatment of both candidates and hiring managers. One chapter is devoted to the ethics of the industry, and Eskridge provides many ideas for upholding integrity in the recruiting industry. By taking a respectful approach to the profession, Physician Recruiting is a valuable tool for experienced and novice recruiters.
Well for one, the field is saturated. Most major markets are littered with staffing companies on every corner. Most are claiming to do the exact same things and most have little to nothing in their advertising approach to set them apart.

Couple all of this with the fact that most staffing owners are somewhat clueless about digital marketing, viral marketing, SEO and Social Media and you have a real recipe for disaster. By 2012, it will be beyond disaster. It will be deadly.

The staffing industry is going through a fundamental shift. A change of great proportions if you will. As more and more "30-somethings" step up into mid and upper-level management roles, the need for staffing owners to understand their world becomes greater and greater.

It's no secret that the Gen X and Gen Y folks are shrinking behind their computers. They Google EVERYTHING before they buy. They have "digital friends" instead of REAL friends. They post themselves all over the net like some sort of Lindsey Lohan voyeuristic circus.

So how does this make advertising a staffing company different? Well for one, staffing and recruiting firms deal with people as their product. And because of their insatiable need to do all things Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Myspace etc.. a staffing company must adapt. It must provide those tools so that their up-and-comers feel comfortable with them as a firm. This goes not only for candidates, but for clients as well.

But it's not as simple as simply getting a Facebook or LinkedIn account. A real advertising and marketing approach, when implementing the new digital evolution, is complex. Just like you wouldn't do your own legal or accounting, you shouldn't do your own digital marketing. It's painfully obvious to the seasoned digital pro when you try it alone.

As with Lindsey Lohan, many of these candidates have undesirable reputations online. A staffing pro needs to be able to research these candidates and perform ORM (Online Reputation Management) in order to make a professional decision.

But who has time for that? Many of you don't. So that is why there is a need to hire a digital advertising and marketing firm specifically tailored to staffing and recruiting. A firm that understands the intricate details of the web and how it can be used to formulate excellence. You need a firm that can research candidates online. You need a firm that ensures that what is being said about your company online is positive. You need a firm that can help you grow deep roots and a large web-footprint.

Up until now, putting it off has been less than smart. But here shortly it will be disastrous. Please, contact Dillinger & Kovach today to learn more. We have smart solutions for your company to consider. We'll be glad to consult with you and help you formulate a plan that is affordable and effective.

                        I must say I've been humbled lately. About a year ago I started an intense learning project surrounding "neuromarketing."

Neuromarketing is a new field of marketing that studies consumers' sensorimotor, cognitive, and affective response to marketing stimuli. Researchers use technologies such as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to measure changes in activity in parts of the brain, electroencephalography (EEG) to measure activity in specific regional spectra of the brain response, and/or sensors to measure changes in one's physiological state (heart rate, respiratory rate, galvanic skin response) to learn why consumers make the decisions they do, and what part of the brain is telling them to do it.

Marketing analysts will use neuromarketing to better measure a consumer's preference, as the verbal response given to the question, "Do you like this product?" may not always be the true answer due to cognitive bias. This knowledge will help marketers create products and services designed more effectively and marketing campaigns focused more on the brain's response.

Neuromarketing will tell the marketer what the consumer reacts to, whether it was the color of the packaging, the sound the box makes when shaken, or the idea that they will have something their co-consumers do not.

The word "neuromarketing" was coined by Ale Smidts in 2002.

Lately this venture has created more frustration than it has clarity. Knowing many of the trigger points that cause people to buy - and presenting them to my clients - has proven itself to be a tricky proposition.

For instance: I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that in the current economy, keeping your price the same as it was just 1 year ago is a REALLY bad idea. How am I so sure? Several fMRI brain scan studies have repeatedly shown this to be true.

In fact, the world's wealthiest people are currently having "excess remorse" which means they are leaving the Ferrari in the garage and taking their Prius to work. Why? Because they know the global economy is in ruins and they don't want to be seen as arrogant. They aren't making this choice consciously. It's just a "feeling."

So when I tell a client who has a 65% mark-up that they better reconsider their rates, their comeback is "we'll never win on price. We've always kept our rates high." "We are high-touch and do more than the competition blah blah blah"

Meanwhile their phones aren't ringing and they are having layoffs. If fMRI brain scans are telling us that price is a MAJOR trigger for purchases in this economy, why would ANY company not reconsider their rates?

To put some of this to the test, our firm purposefully implemented 3 very specific neuromarketing tactics. I won't say what they are but they were calculated and well planned and deliberate. The response we received from our audience was almost staggering. The phones blew up and for a few weeks, our offices could barely keep up with demand. We were amazed to say the least.

The strange thing is, we would have never come up with this program on our own. Through the studies of the brain and how trigger points can affect buying patterns, we deliberately and quite easily got our phones to ring. It wasn't rocket science.. it was brain science.

Like it or not our minds have a mind of their own. Almost 90% of the time we are wrong about how it works, what it wants and why it does what it does.

If you'd like to know more about neuromarketing and how it relates to running a staffing/recruiting business, give us a call. We'd be glad to sit down with you and develop a plan of action for your firm. It's truly a revolutionary way to look at your business and how you can gain a major advantage over your competitors.

Ignoring your prospect's brain is like arguing with a tree...Kinda dumb.
