The 00s have gone by and its time to rate the top 10 movies of the decade! Its a really tough list to make as there's like 30 movies that i couldn't decide over each other to make the top 10. But anyways, i did.. and here it is!

10. Infernal Affairs

This got here before The Departed mostly cos of its originality and while The Departed is on a par with this in my opinion, i had to choose so its gonna be the original.

9. Der Untergang (The Downfall)

The final days in the life of Adolf Hitler, brilliantly acted by Bruno Ganz. This German movie was all my friends and i could talk about for a period of time.

8. Inception

Genius movie by a genius director Christopher Nolan. Great acting and mind boggling storytelling has this 2010 movie up on number 8.

7. El Secreto De Sus Ojos (The Secret in their Eyes)

The movie that i voted Best of 2010, this Argentinian movie has made it on here at number 7.

6. Låt den rätte komma in (Let the Right One In)

This very original Swedish vampire movie that was remade by the Americans just two years after its release ends up on number 6. Theres a reason why the Americans tried to remake it (yet failed to deliver).

5. Hotel Rwanda

Based on a true story of the Rwanda Genocide, this brilliant film starring Don Cheadle in his best performance ever is in the top 5.

4. Memories of Murder

South Korean movie about a serial killer, the fact that it was based on actual events made it alot more creepy and suspenseful.

3. Old Boy

The second South Korean movie on the top 5, anyone who have watched would know how fucking awesome this movie is, and if they didn't like it, they are a total douche.

2. The Pianist

Based on actual events, The Pianist tells the story of a Pianist during the German occupation of Poland, one of the greatest stories ever told, Adrian Brody won the best actor at the Oscars for this and he really deserved it, fantastic acting as well as fantastic directing from Roman Polanski, who himself was a survivor of the holocaust.

1. Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others)

In 1984 East Berlin, an agent of the secret police, conducting surveillance on a writer and his lover, finds himself becoming increasingly absorbed by their lives. Great movie with great everything! Rumors has been circulating about an American remake, i really hope that doesn't happen.

The Lucky Kids of Today!

Everywhere i go i see a kid with their iPad and iPhones and i think about how life was when i was that age. Alot had changed in the last 15 years. Here's a look at whats available now vs. those that was available during my youth.

NOW kids these days enjoy video games on the XBox 360 and the wireless Nintendo Wii. On top of that its on High Definition television and the graphics are crazily realistic.

THEN i had my very first console game player which was the SEGA Mega-drive II. Games were 16-Bit and in 2D on a cartridge that sometimes, didn't work. I still have this somewhere in my closet, and it still works! My second console player i got, the Sony PlayStation stopped working a year after i got it.

NOW we have the iPhone. It can make calls, make voice calls, surf the internet, play games, check the GPS locations, take videos and pictures, play mp3s, It can do almost anything!!!

THEN i had my first phone in 1999, the Ericsson T10 which can make phone calls, send text messages and ... errr.. nothing else really. Before this phone all i had was a pager!

NOW we listen to music on MP3 players that has the songs built into the machine itself. It can play unlimited amounts of songs depending on the capacity your MP3 player has.

THEN i used to listen to music through the Walkman or Cassette players and the music was on a cassette tape that could hold only about 2 hours worth of songs. (I Think). Quality was shit. After this out came the DiscMan that played Compact Discs followed by the failed MD player, and finally Singapore company CREATIVE invented the MP3 player.

NOW we have the DVD players that plays DVD's and BluRay DVD's.

THEN we had VCR's playing these bulky things that can mould up and jam up inside and ruin the whole tape!!

NOW we have the iPad, It can do everything the iPhone can and more.

THEN the closest thing we had to then iPad was a pen and a writing pad.

So much more have changed, when i started using a computer it was on MS DOS and Windows 3.1. The Internet was just invented and the speeds were at 56.6kbps. How much has changed in 10 years? We can can get internet speeds in Singapore up to 100 MBPS, thats a 100,000 KBPS! Damn! Miss those days when it took me a whole night to view a couple of porno images.

One of the most WTF songs of all time. This song caught on and was made fun of by millions of internet users as well as popular tv shows such as Saturday Night Live. "Fucking Magnets.. How do they work?" has become a well known catchphrase thanks to this song.

5) The Worst Wedding DJ Ever!

Classic, dude goes up to a fat lady and plays air drums with her boobs.

4) The German DJ

The Happiest DJ in the World! I'd go to any club he spins at!

3) Laddergoat

This is basically a dude high on crack or something playing a game and laughing for minutes cos he saw a goat climbing a ladder.

2) The Bed Intruder Song

This is a classic that i could never get out of my head throughout 2010. I even sing it randomly when I'm all alone to myself.

1) The China Hurdle Guy

This chinese hurdler, tried jumping twice, gives up, fucks the world, and decides to just bash through the rest but accidentally has a hurdle come off and gets stuck around his neck and pulls him down to the ground into his opponents lane, never giving up, he gets right back up. and continue running, IN HIS OPPONENTS LANE. The ultimate fail!!!!

Best of 2010: Movies

Its the end of the year and its time to do my annual top 10 best movies of the year. Last year the best movie went to Swedish movie "Let the Right One In".

10. Kick-Ass

Funny, Violent, Fun, Crazy. This movie has it all. Alot of similarities to a Quentin Tarantino movie with its stylistic violence.

9. The Town

Only problem with this movie i had was probably that the ending could have been better. Other than that its a solid movie with great acting from Jeremy Renner and great Directing from Ben Affleck.

8. Tetro

Directed by the great Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather Trilogy), he has finally returned the the form of making great movies with this fantastic story of Tetro. Probably his best since Apocalypse Now.

7. Shutter Island

Directed by Martin Scorsese who never fails to make a good movie. Not as good as his previous effort (The Departed) but it stays true to a Scorsese film.

6. The Road

This post-apocalyptic story of Survival with brilliant acting by Viggo Mortensen technically came out in 2009, but i didn't see it til 2010 so its in my list of 2010 films.

5. The Social Network

In the top 5 we have The Social Network directed by the genius David Fincher who also brought us classics like Se7en, Fight Club and Zodiac. Its amazing how he managed to make a simple story look so good on film.

4. Mesrine

An instant gangster classic, as it says on its poster. This french movie makes Hollywood look bad. Probably the best gangster movie I've seen in a long time.

3. Animal Kingdom

Another crime classic, this time from Australia. Best crime movie I've seen since, well, Mesrine.

2. Inception

Christopher Nolan is officially labeled a Genius in my mind after watching this movie. A complete Mind-Fuck, took me a second viewing to decide on what really happens in this film.

1. The Secret in their Eyes

Released in Argentina in 2009, and 2010 is most other countries. I didn't hear of this film until it won best foreign film at the Oscars this year, so i label it a 2010 movie in my books. Murder, Mystery, Romance, Crime... everything in one epic. Definitely a must see for movie lovers.

Honorable Mentions: Black Swan, Brothers, The Edge of Darkness, Machete.

Probably the best crime film I've seen in a very long time. This Australian movie succeeds in every way Hollywood films doesn't. With a relatively unknown cast other than Guy Pearce, its loosely inspired by the real life Pettingill Family and the 1988 Walsh Street police shooting. The directing, acting and score is near perfect. The moment the movie started i knew it was gonna be a really good film. Animal Kingdom tells the story of seventeen year-old J (Josh) as he navigates his survival amongst an explosive criminal family and the detective who thinks he can save him. There's nothing more that can be said other than GO WATCH IT. I don't know if its out in Singapore or if it will be out at all but i think those who really want to watch it will know where to find it.

Just came back from Korea with Navin and Joel. Was pretty good, freaking cold, clubbed once, snowed once, ate a lot of street food and BBQ. But food there wasn't as good as Singapore. Met Kyle, who is studying there now. Played Jenga, watched movies, etc etc. Only bad part was the day after we arrived, North Korea shelled the South. So there was a little fear of things getting worst.

new years celebrations this year started at joel's house where we had a bbq with his family!! no pics of the bbq but after that...

we headed to town to see the fireworks but ended up getting caught in a jam for 2 hours just to enjoy 5 minutes of this years pathetic fireworks!!! so we just horned and shouted happy new years at other cars and ppl on the streets while amanda took pics from joel's car.

XMAS 2007!!!

it was that time of the year again. after a memorable christmas at attayah's house last year, she rejected our offer to hold this years xmas at her house again. chalet's were all booked. didn't have time to rent a house. attempted to book a bar for the party until gerard saved us and said "let's have xmas at the most happening place.. no.. not narai hotel.. but lorong ah soo" so it was off to gerard's house after midnight mass.

the party started late as usual.. food and drinks were aplenty! this year was the first year that we had home cooked food instead of having them catered. so we had great egg salad, carbonara, chicken, turkey, fried rice and alot of beer and liquor.

we even had a bbq pit!!

jeremiah unable to maintain his face as he played drinking games. even roshan, the youngest male member of the balasurian family was there.

chengyan arrived with a surprise... a mustache!!!

an already drunk navin challenging a sober derek to a drinking competition to see who get's drunk first. the winner was crowned before the competition even started. navin kumar started singing the no.1 hit by akon called "put the blame on me" and then mysteriously.. disappeared. (abducted by aliens again?)

the holiday season has arrived.. and thinking back to the past.. holidays were always the best!!!! it all started in the new years of 2004.. bored of celebrating in singapore joshua su, james pinto, chengyan and myself decided to try celebrating elsewhere.. and that place (due to our very low budget) was BATAM!!!!

we took a 30 dollar two way ferry to batam on the eve of the new years.. changed 100 singapore dollars and got ourselves a stack of Indonesian dollars. wasnt easy when we arrived.. we were counting everything in thousands for the first time. the hotel we were staying at had a new years party in their disco on the first floor so since we didnt know where else to go, we went there.. there was a lucky draw going on. it was our lucky day cos we won a bottle of remy marting.. and a 30inch TV.. but we didnt really win the 30inch tv though.. our number was 007. they read "kosong.. kosong.. sembilan". since none of us knew how to say seven, let alone nine in malay.. we assumed we won the price. james pinto walked to the stage with much confidence but was later turned away because sembilan actually meant nine!!! sad that our plans for selling the tv and staying a few nights has failed.. we continued to drink and then met these ladies who brough us shopping, bowling and to eat...

here we are at the bowling alley.. all the way to batam, just to bowl!!!!!

we then went to a karaoke bar and sang.. cos there was nothing much to do in batam. we returned to singapore the day after... 4 months later.. we planned another trip.. this time, further away.. it was hongkong. to visit our friends howard, JJ and nathan who have moved to HK from singapore...

this was the poster and our trip was called the "Havoc Bastards World Tour 2004"

riding the MTR which resembles singapore's very own MRT. its pretty much the same thing.

took a day trip to shentzen, china where we shopped for the cheapest fake stuff and took pictures with random people followed by the cheapest meal we will ever have in our life.

back in hongkong we took a picture in the middle of the road. dont know why. but this picture features pretty much everyone we met in hongkong. from left, ruben, nathan, joshua, howard, myself, jackie, pimp, chengyan and JJ.

and four of us got this tattooed on my leg, joshua's hand, howards back and rubens rib.. two years later joel ng got a plus sized version on his leg.

it was back to batam for our cheap getaway part 2.. this time unfortunately the only camera we had was my vintage LG camera phone which took photo's as small as my pinky. this time it was jackie, mark jeremy, myself and fabian lee. we returned after eating, drinking and smoking. (after realizing how boring batam was, we never returned again)

it was this vacation that led to many more and many more to come. it was thailand in 2006.. ruben and i took leave from camp and joined melvin and elen in our first trip to bangkok. others didnt dare follow, but us four guys dared the impossible.. and learnt alot of valuble lessons like never take advice from a tuk tuk driver on where to eat cos we payed 200 baht for tomyam soup. after realizing how fun bangkok was.. we just had to return.. this time.. with MORE guys!!!

the love of bangkok for elen, melvin, ruben and i led to this.. the second bangkok trip which was nicknamed "BangBros 2007". which had 8 other's join us. this was the ultimate vacation. even a theme song was composed and written by melvin koh and myself which can be heared http://www.myspace.com/beggarsect . the bangbro's were (as pictured above from left to right) myself, gabriel kang, melvin koh, fabian lee, ian pillay, ruben, kenneth, gerard, elen, ronald, shaun and eugene who is not in the picture cos he was on a separate flight.

the food was amazing, these were the best times other than clubbing because they were the only times we were mostly together as a group as we normally split up into groups of four to go shopping.
dressed to kill as we partied at the best clubs such as Route 66 at RCA, BOSS at god knows where and zeed where someone took out a gun and started shooting causing everyone to duck and run. after that we didnt know where to go cos we couldnt go back to zeed.. so gerard came up with the best idea, in his own words "lets go to the most happening place.... narai hotel!!!" and we had a good nights sleep.

it was a trip to genting to celebrate the last days of freedom for joel and bhuvan as they were heading to the army!!! it wasnt that fun, lost 50 ringgit in the casino's, food and everything else was expensive, clubbing was boring, the fun parts happened in our hotel rooms and we made so much noise getting us so many complaints and fabian and i shouting out the window and locking each other out of their rooms when they were just in their boxers or in my case, wrapped up in the bedsheet. the trip to genting was nicknamed "GentBros" with joshua su, joshua ng, kenneth pang, fabian lee, joel ng and myself.

and ofcourse.. like i said.. the holiday season is here.. and ours will start almost a month after it ends. its the third bangbro's trip. this time with some old faces as well as new ones, 3rd timers, 2nd timers and even first timers. currenly the first confirmed list of us who will be going is : eugene ong, mark jeremy, melvin koh, kenneth pang, elen, jackie ong, ruben balasurian, dil marc, gerard lowis, gabriel kang, fabian lee and mud mel. thats 12 of us!!! last trip started with 4 and ended up with 12!!! this time god knows.. we still have 2 months to go before we depart for bangkok, but im pretty sure the list will end up to atleast 20.

motorbikes

motorbikes are the in thing now. and i'm here to investigate why!!!!

here are some examples...

yazid got his first bike years ago.. he was well known for his extremely loud exhaust and an incident where he had kenneth pang as a passenger and was too fast that when he made a sudden brake, kenneth was sitting on the driver's seat and the driver was on the petrol tank.

yazid's love for riding got him to buy two bikes..

then it was jackie's army stint as a military police that got the car driver an interest in motorbikes.

he never bought that bike

chengyan soon bought himself a scrambler and often says that when he dashes off from a red light, he looks at his rear mirrors, and see noone behinds him. its true, his bike isnt metal melitia for nothing....

even melvin "the mengz" koh got his bike. black body, hot pink rims and a licence plate that reads FA.. G..

now mengz and his dog rudy can travel in style!!!

soon enough, bhuvan caught up on this trend.. after being rejected from most riding schools for having an attention disorder, he got himself a 1998 ToysRus triple wheeled bike. after failing to learn how to ride that...

...bhuvan decided, that nothing beats being a passenger!

even kenneth pang has chosen a bike that suits him best!!

joshua su has expressed interest in getting a bike with a sidecar.. but there are pros and cons though.. here's one example at his first test ride.

to be honest, i've always been afraid of bikes.. seeing them taking corner's when it looks like they could fall off anytime.. it freaked me out. i decided to try anyways. i was on my way to the riding school to enroll.. on the way i saw a sign that didnt really help...

i did not let the fear get to me.. so i got myself a bike....

things went well for awhile.. had some nice thrills on it.. it did go pretty well with the ladies too.. well everything was great... till this happened.....

and now i've sworn never to ride again!!!!!

so what's the big deal about motorbikes?? well its simply the best transportation to get you from point to point. cheap bike, cheap petrol, cheap maintenance, easily get through in traffic jams, chicks dig it and your friends can't fight over who get's to sit infront!!

well about the chicks digging it part, i did a study.. i picked up more girls on a rainy day then 4 sunny days for bikers!!!

diary of depression

been awhile since ive blogged.. been very busy lately.. but now im back.. and whats really been on my mind, is a blog by an anonymous person called Diary of Depression.
This guy blogs about how depressed he is and how life really sucks but this guy refuses to seek help. His peers constantly reach out to him.. but he shrugs it off like nothing is wrong then goes back home and writes a new composition on how depressed he is. He chooses to alienate himself from the world by deleting his online friendster profile.. claiming he seeks no attention, but already got all his friends talking. so whats really been on my mind, is that if you were his friend?? what would you do? if reaching out has failed.. what other alternatives would come to mind??

ello! im back.. after a pretty pretty pretty long time. i have returned from the land of pakistan.. where i suffered for three weeks.. upon my return i gave my paki-gifts to the boys.. weird looking hats!!!

here is us after a drinking session in serangoon gardens.. during breakfast! it was my first taste of alcohol in a LONG time!!!

i was too lazy to park my car, so i drove all the way to the lift landing of fabian's block.

kenneth riding a scrambler.. took him awhile to get on, and an even longer while.. to get off!

maria smells no evil, sharon hears no evil.. but because they are chinese, they see no evil too!!!

we found a new hobby, swimming. swam three times already since my return. bhuvan has a float, cos he cant swim nor float!!

bhuvan tried to smile for this, but he almost drowned.. even with a float...

after bhuvan's close call with death, just look at his face.. the fear. kenneth seemed sad cos he almost lost a friend. joel and i smiling at the humour of it!!!

on the way to zouk, seven ppl in my car. you cant really see amanda and marilyn and you can barely see joshua ng, but under joshua... is his twin brother.. jeremiah. bhuvan looks squashed. and ofcourse the happy comfortable passenger joel.. and me.

hello!! im back. with pictures this time... first ill start with the drinking session at attayah's house!!!

here is attayah so happy to see me as i arrive!!

i then went school hunting.. with kenneth pang to SIM.. then went to serangoon to pick up clarine, then to temasek poly to pick up maria. and then had lunch at burger king raffle's place.. had some nice ice cream at clarine's cousin serene's work place.. ben and jerrys i think. it was the greatest ice cream i tasted in my LIFE!!!!!!

and then a few days later.. the day most members have been waiting for.. the MEMBERS Five and a Half year anniversary! it was 5 and a half years ago where kenneth pang invented the name MEMBERS in town after seeing so many of his friends as he walked around.. calling them members. after that day members got bigger and bigger.. people outside the circle have grown fond of the name. often do i hear ppl saying "oh ur from members??" and "members? they are bad ppl". haha. though our prime was in 2004, we still have these gatherings to remind us of good times and also to make new memories!

6th day in hell

yes in case u've been wondering where have i disspeared to.. its a little place called pakistan. the first 5 days was hell on earth. fucking boring. the place is like living in the 1800s. fucking old fashioned. when i put up the pics u will know what i mean. saw alot of horsies, ponies, donkies, cows and goats!. the donkey is the cutest animal here. like a small baby horse. got one baby one i saw the size of a big dog. damn cute. but their face always looks sad. maybe its cos they are in hell.. today i finally arrived in the better part of paki. the place where my mom works. this place is heaven. haha. damn cold. and my mom got a big house with internet all so i can communicate! weeee... and the best part is she got a car. i just took it out for a spin. the car sucks. old honda city. but okay ah better than nothing. i accidentally drove into a police protected road just now, the police man stopped me and asked where i was going, i said home, he said this way leads to the mountains. then he dont believe me keep asking me whats my address and all. luckily he told me to u turn and go the other way. finally found my way home. tried drifting with the car, it worked. ahaah. atleast the handbrakes better than my car in singapore. atleast now i wont be so bored. the first 5 days was hell. only one friend decided to keep me company on the phone.. my one true friend.. su jiankai joshua. thanks su. now i know who's a real friend. haha. bhuvan i am not calling u anymore. u screwed up. haha. im craving alcohol.... i havent had one since monday at the airport where i drank the free samples at the DFS shop.. and had a beer on the plane. damn sian. so sad everything in singapore is changing.. news from home is depressing. only su managed to cheer me up abit. everyone having so much fun. people forgetting me. ppl gng army. ppl doing "not too good", ppl IGNORING me (u know who u are..new phone cannot sms ah?? i bet u were so happy with ur new prepaid card bhuvan, that u messaged all ur friends that u have a new number, and once u were done, the credit went out. ahahahahahaahahaah). sorry for neglecting u bhuvan. when im back i will spend all my time with u. and when u go army i will SMS and CALL u everyday even when you message me on how depressed u are.. i take a boat to tekong, and give u a shoulder to cry on.. same to JOJO too!! fuck blogging is making me sad. okok i shall sleep now. cya on the 6th of may.
