Ziggo en Xs4all voeren blokkade The Pirate Bay door

Ziggo heeft in de afgelopen nacht op last van de rechter een filter geactiveerd waardoor The Pirate Bay niet langer direct is op te vragen door abonnees. Xs4all gaat voor de deadline van 1 februari ook over tot het blokkeren van de torrentsite.

Ziggo laat op zijn website weten dat de blokkade in de nacht van maandag en dinsdag tussen 1.00 en 6.00 uur ’s nachts is doorgevoerd. Klanten van de provider die naar The Pirate Bay surfen, worden nu doorverwezen naar blokkade.ziggo.nl. De isp meent echter dat een blokkade van een website weinig effectief is, omdat deze 'vrij makkelijk is te omzeilen'. Ook stelt Ziggo tegen het blokkeren van websites te zijn, omdat de isp niet de rol van politieagent opgedrongen mag krijgen. Verder meent Ziggo dat het vonnis de deur openzet voor 'verdere ongewenste ontwikkelingen' die de internetvrijheid kunnen inperken.

Xs4all heeft aangegeven ook voor de deadline van 1 februari een filter te activeren waardoor The Pirate Bay onbereikbaar moet worden. De provider wil een speciale pagina tonen waarin tekst en uitleg wordt gegeven over de precieze reden van de blokkade. Ook wil Xs4all een lijst van de geblokkeerde adressen aan zijn abonnees tonen.

Lorna - Static Patterns And Souvenirs (2005)

This album is sparse, reflective, and terribly pretty -- and that's after just one or two minutes. The opening "Understanding Heavy Metal, Pts. 1-2" features singer Mark Rolfe taking a delicate melody and adding airy vocals that hover over the track perfectly. Sharon Cohen adds harmonies and you have a gorgeous track that seems to glide and soar at the same time. Think of Wilco meets the Delgados while inspired by David Bowie's Heroes and you might get a good idea of what isat play here. Horns enter the track but are far from a sticking point, giving it more body. The second half has some electronic blips and bleeps, but they also aren't a distraction. "Homerun" is a dirge with a duet from the two singers, making bands like Cowboy Junkies seem uptempo by comparison. Cohen's high notes bring to mind Sigur Rós, but she doesn't go over the top. The first real gem comes in the form of "The Last Mosquito Fight of Summer," as Lorna craft the song around their assets -- lovely vocal performances and simple arrangements with melodies that are heavenly -- as it ventures into the Cure circa Bloodflowers territory. "Remarkable Things" sounds as if the bandmembers have been listening to mountain music, but they perform the song at a snail's pace. The pedal steel is excellent thanks to Marc Ransley's deft abilities. "Swans" might be too rich, lush, or textured for some, but the lullaby harmonies and melancholic tone are what make it work so well. The same can be inferred from "Will You Still Love Me Yesterday?," a play on the Shirelles title. This haunting style continues during the barren and claustrophobic "Be Forever," which brings to mind Marianne Faithfull, Luna, or PJ Harvey circa Dance Hall at Louse Point. One song that comes across as run of the mill has to be "Snow Song." Lorna wrap the record up as smoothly and gracefully as it opened with "Illuminations," a track that sounds like a cross between Knife in the Water and Thee Heavenly Music Association. This record is pretty almost to a fault. (Review by Jason MacNeil)

Mr. Templeton later sees Jennifer again at work and recognizes her, and with a hidden purpose, he hires her for a new full-time assignment: to be his "biographer" and to write his life story. His hidden purpose is to make an attempt to win Jennifer's affections. There is a problem. The laboratory's security chief, Homer Cripps, concludes that Jennifer is a Soviet spy, and to prove his suspicions, he has Jennifer surveilled. When she learns of the notion, Jennifer disproves the bumbling Cripps.

On May 23, 1977 a train hijacking took place close to Drentsche Aa river bridge at de Punt (in the village of Glimmen) on the provincial border between Groningen and Drenthe, northeastern Netherlands. Nine armed Moluccans pulled the emergency brake around 9 AM and took about 50 people as hostages. The hijacking lasted for 482 hours (20 days); two hostages and six hijackers were killed.

More than 30 years after the dramatic ending of a train hijack five people involved meet each other on a television show. Starting point is the death of the only female hijacker: Noor. One by one the five enter the studio. Each with their own expectations or hidden agenda.

Brilliant and Eclectic!

Allison and Catherine Pierce are from Alabama, they're sisters, they're rather attractive, one of them is supposedly (as of this writing) dating someone from the Strokes, and as kids they were both "accomplished" ballerinas. Together they make some pretty fine, artsy pop with provocative lyrics vaguely in the vein of Regina Spektor. Thirteen Tales is the first album the duo has made with their own say-so; their earlier records were pleasant if innocuous, slicked-up folk. There's a dramatic flair to their country-inflected orchestral New Wave folk-pop. With its doubled-up and contemporary-sounding pop vocal style, the macabre "Secrets" sounds like the soundtrack to a Tim Burton movie with words written by Dame Darcy, as sung by half the members of the Pussycat Dolls. If anything, they're a little too ambitious on their third album. With each track assigned its own stylistic variation (however slight), the album is scattered as a whole. But this is definitely a super entertaining duo, one to watch out for. --Mike McGonigal

Jonathan Livingston Seagull is a 1973 film directed by Hall Bartlett, adapted from the novella by Richard Bach. It tells the story of the title seagull, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, who, after being outcast by his stern flock, goes on an odyssey to discover how to break the limits of his own flying speed. The soundtrack for the film was recorded by Neil Diamond. Although nominated for Academy Awards, the film was panned by critics at the time of its release. Since then, it has sporadically grown in popularity, and it was released to DVD in October of 2007.

Plot
As the film begins, Jonathan Livingston Seagull is soaring through the sky hoping to travel at a speed more than 60 miles per hour. Eventually, with luck he is able to break that barrier, but when Jonathan returns to his own flock he is greeted with anything but applause. The Elders of the flock shame Jonathan for doing things the other seagulls never dare to do. Jonathan pleads to stay and claims that he wants to share his newfound discovery with everybody, but the Elders dismiss him as an outcast, and he is banished from the flock. Jonathan goes off on his own, believing that all hope is lost. However, he is soon greeted by mysterious seagulls from other lands who assure him that his talent is a unique one, and with them Jonathan is trained to become independent and proud of his beliefs. Eventually, Jonathan himself ends up becoming a mentor for other seagulls who are suffering the same fates in their own flocks as he once did.

Reception
The film was critically panned at the time of its release in 1973. Roger Ebert, who only awarded it 1 out of 4 stars, confessed that he walked out of the screening after approximately 45 minutes, writing: "This has got to be the biggest pseudo cultural, would-be metaphysical ripoff of the year." Five years later, film critic Michael Medved, along with Harry Medved and Randy Dreyfuss, added the film to their book The Fifty Worst Films of All Time. However, in recent years, the film has garnered at least one postitive review from Rotten Tomatoes critic Shane Burridge, who writes: "From a technical viewpoint, Bartlett's film is an ambitious accomplishment, and it's certainly the only talking seagull movie in the world with a time-capsule Neil Diamond soundtrack (his fans must love this film)."

The film was nominated at the Academy Awards on April 2, 1974, for Best Cinematography (Jack Couffer) and Best Film Editing (Frank P. Keller and James Galloway), both of which it lost.

A Cosmetic Facade Cracked by Ugly Realtiy

With FAR FROM HEAVEN, writer-director Todd Haynes meticulously recreates the look and conventions of 1950s "domestic drama"--and then subverts it. Like all domestic drama heroines, Cathy Whittaker (Julianne Moore) is a glamorous woman, and the film finds her married to Frank (Dennis Quaid), a rising executive in television sales. They are the perfect 1950s family: they are upwardly mobile, have two children (a boy and a girl, of course), live in an expensive home in an expensive residential district. One evening, Cathy unexpectedly opens a door--and discovers that Frank is unfaithful to her.

If this were a Douglas Sirk film starring Lana Turner, Cathy would have found Frank in the arms of another woman and done battle with her to save her marriage. But Frank is in the arms of another man, something that falls completely outside Cathy's frame of reference. Desperate to save her marriage, she encourages Frank to see a psychiatrist; unable to confide in her friends lest she provoke a scandal, she finds solace in the company of her gardener. But he is black--and when their largely innocent friendship is discovered it provokes the very scandal she feared.

The themes of homosexuality and racism are merely the most obvious way in which Haynes subverts the genre. More interestingly, Haynes essentially presents us with characters trapped between the stereotypes of 1950s domestic drama and hard reality, and the result is often quite surreal. Time and again the characters respond to harsh reality by resorting to the high-flown dialogue and awkward dollops of social consciousness typical of the genre--and time and again the nature of the film works to highlight how ridiculously unnatural this response is. As the film progresses, it becomes increasingly claustrophobic in feel, and while none can deny that it is homage in form, it becomes metaphor in fact, satirizing and condemning both the artificial social codes of the past and present. Moreover, it works to undercut our selective memory of the 1950s, which we prefer to recall as "Happy Days" but which saw the House Un-American Committee, The Cold War, and the beginnings of everything from racial integration, the gay rights movement, and feminism--and in the face of such issues role models like Lana Turner in her evening gown and Donna Reed with her pearls crack and shatter.

The cast is superlative here. Julianne Moore, whose career has been building for the past several years, clearly demonstrates that she is now in the same league with the greatest screen actresses of her generation, playing the role of Cathy Whittaker on so many levels that it has the effect of an emotional Rubik's Cube. Dennis Quaid, best known for playing mischievously macho "bad boy" characters, gives an extremely unexpected and highly charged performance as husband Frank, and both are excellently supported. The script captures every grotesque nuance of the 1950s domestic drama while neatly undermining it at every turn, and the production staff has done a remarkable job of recreating the visual style involved. The cinematography and score are incredibly beautiful, and the director's approach to the project is less homage than it is critical evaluation of those who enjoy such artificial constructs both then and now, both on the screen and off. It is an extraordinary feat, and quite possibly one of the best movies of the past ten years. The DVD package is quite interesting, with three solid documentaries and a good director's commentary.

FAR FROM HEAVEN will not be to every one's taste, not by a long shot. Many who liked the 1950s "domestic drama" genre--and many who don't--will not be able to make the leap of perception that Haynes requires, won't be able to shift gears to look at the work with the objectivity necessary. But it is powerful stuff, and I recommend it all the same. By Gary F. Taylor "GFT"

Gulliver's Travels (1939)

In 1939 when this movie was released, it faced stiff competition at the Academy Awards from 'Gone with the Wind' and 'The Wizard of Oz.' Nominated for an Academy Award in 1939, it didn't win. But those who love this film will always believe that is should have.
By 1939, the Fleischer Studios had been crafting the finest animation around -- they actually produced the first full length animated movie (though Disney gets the credit). This is the very best that the Fleischer Studios ever produced. Its characters are every bit as rich and deep as the very best Disney, Bluth or Spielberg-Katzenberg efforts. (Anyone who hears the classic line: "There's a giant on the beach!" -- will never forget it!)

For years, I have wanted to get my hands on this and remaster this movie digitally. (I do effects and compositing for a living.) It's wonderful to see that someone who loves this movie has given it the care and respect it deserves. Max Fleischer was a sheer genius, whose work includes the original Betty Boop, Popeye, the animated Superman -- and his own contributions to film include techniques of effects production that are still used today. He was a master of his craft who, sadly, has little recognition outside artists and animators. I have bought many copies of this over the years -- usually in versions so poorly recorded and transfered that they are pitiful indicators of the Fleischer talent -- and yet, everyone I've given it to, loves the movie. My personal gratitude to Winfield Hoskins, Seymour Kneitel and Thomas Reich for your tender care in restoring such a wonderful movie. Thank you. It is truly long overdue and it is a case of giving honor to whom honor is due. This belongs right alongside the best Disney, tucked right on the shelf alongside Bluth's best -- and when the young and the young at heart ask "What is this?" -- play it. My grand daugther plays it regularly and never tires of it and always quites "There's a giant on the beach" -- and she laughs. This movie is simply pure magic -- breathtaking! Many of you will watch it and will suddenly remember seeing this long ago and your eyes will light up, just as many who I have bought it for, have said to me: "I saw this years ago and have never known what it was. I love this!" And they always smile. And I always buy more copies. The soul of a true artist lives in this movie. And this is the best edition of it that you will find. By R. Lindeboom

Liberation. Whether They Want It Or Not.

Excellent thought-provoking film...

This is an excellent film. In the second installment of his proposed American trilogy, Lars von Trier, touches on the subjects of racism, cultural blindness, hypocrisy and self-righteous superiority. In its way, it points at why America is simultaneously admired and despised the world over. Famously, Lars von Trier has never set foot in America (afraid of flying). So his views are the views of a foreigner, specifically a northern European steeped in the liberal tradition. Some will see that as a negative. I think it is refreshing for Americans to see how America is viewed from abroard, from someone unencumbered by its cultural baggage. What he shows is the ugly side of America. But von Trier's comment is by extension a critique on all humanity; for what Americans are here accused of, is equally applicable to other nations, races and creeds.

The story is simple. It carries on chronologically from Dogville. After destroying the godforsaken town in the bloody climax of the previous film, Grace (previously played by Nicole Kidman, and now by Bryce Dallas Howard) drives homeward with her father and his convoy of gangsters. They chance upon a plantation in Alabama where slavery is still practised, some 70 years after abolition (this is 1933). Grace gets it into her mind to free the slaves and to teach everyone, former slaves and Masters alike, about the new creed of equality and democracy. With the aid of her gun-toting gangsters, she preaches and enforces her new religion on the "benighted" people of the plantation. Of course, out of the seeds of her good intent, come no good at all.

The film can be viewed on many levels. The simplest is to take it as a commentary on racism. Passing a decree does not abolish racism. Nothing changes as long as hearts and minds don't change. Preaching empty words will not alter generations of abuse and hatred. On the flipside, it also poses the question: why do certain groups of people remain so backward and unsuccessful? Is it because of their past or themselves? It's a question that reaches beyond the black/white divide in America, to vast swathes of the world, from Africa to the Middle-East, where societies and nations have floundered and where they all invariably blame their past and their "victimhood" at the hands of white colonisers. Do they bear no responsibilty for their own fates? Is it simply easier to blame someone else than to take responsibility for one's own actions? The abdication of responsibility is sadly an all too American trait, but it is by no means confined solely to America.

We are also called to ponder on Grace's self-righteous attempt to free the slaves and more importantly, her attempt to force them into seeing things her way. Apart from its obvious ridiculing of the "do-gooder" abolitionists, and by extension, the superior white man with his constant chant of equal rights and democracy, it is also a comment on present day politics. America's actions across the world instantly spring to mind. Its endless, simple-minded attempts at interfering with and changing others to fit its own image, is today mirrored by other world actors; newly rising powers, increasingly resurgent religions, all of which similarly want to remake others into their own image - their prime justification being: "I'm better than you, so you'd best do as I say." It is a sad comment on humanity as a whole.

Like Dogville, this is a very dark film. It is not light entertainment. It is also not cinéma vérité. Do not expect realism. It does not aspire to historical accuracy. It should be taken more as a parable than a history lesson. It is wide open to interpretation. I especially liked Brandon Medford's analysis (further down) which I thought was spot-on. And I agree with him that to look at this solely as a film about slavery or racism is to impoverish the work.

Manderlay follows in the Dogme 95 tradition of Dogville. It is Dogme brought to its extreme conclusion - a filmed stage-play with minimalist sets, with actors acting and pantomiming on stage. If you don't think you can sit through a 2-hour-plus stage play, this film is not for you. Acting is fine overall. I wasn't affected by the change of cast. Lars von Trier's films are not centered around stars, although Nicole Kidman was the ideal choice for Grace.

De desbetreffende ISP kreeg afgelopen week het verzoek van BREIN om FT offline te halen en NRG gegevens door te geven. De ISP heeft echter toegezegd de gegevens niet te zullen verstrekken en FT in de gelegenheid gesteld om binnen 48 uur de site offline te halen.

Dit bericht werd 24-03-2010 aan de team-leden van FT bekend gemaakt en vervolgens is ~~http://www.film-torrents.nl~~ uit de lucht gehaald.

The new IE Tab 2 WORKS!

Stop trying to patch the old IE Tab, it won't work for opening a page in an IE tab! IE Tab's author said he won't update it anymore, and has invited anyone to work on the open source code, which "ietab.net" has done, creating IE Tab 2. It's in beta, but it looks and works exactly like the old add-on, and works great in the latest Firefox. Like others have said, it's right here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/92382
You just have to check a box saying "Let me install this experimental add-on", and you have the same add-on we all know and love!
