"Yarn Top"

Easy to add yarn top knot for any doll

I was asked recently about how to add a top knot of yarn hair to a dolls head, much like the Cabbage Patch dolls had. I came up with this simple tutorial that shows you how to do this. You can add a top knot to any cloth doll any size, just follow the simple steps below.

Turn any doll into a "Yarn Top"

Step 1. You will need a bald doll, yarn of any kind (4 ply will stand up better), I use a CD for wrapping, scissors, 2 1/2 inch needle and matching thread.

Step 2. Wrap the yarn around the CD several times to get the desired amount of yarn needed.

Step 3. Cut the yarn and tie in the center with a couple strands of yarn.

Step 4. Place the yarn on the top of the dolls head for sewing.

Step 5. Thread the 2 1/2 inch sculpting needle with matching thread. Sew the yarn to the top of the head with several stitches. Make sure it is securely sewn. Sew through the center of the tied yarn a few times to secure.

Step 6. Finger comb the yarn away from the dolls face.

Step 7. Cut the yarn, cut a little look at it and if needed cut more. The shorter you cut it the more it will stand up.

I have met lots of great people while at Festival, but some very special friends came by for a picture or to share a doll.

This is Laurie, she told me she has made 4 dolls and loves it, "they are easy"!

Houston Festival Begins

The Houston Festival begins tonight with VIP preview night. I thought you may like to see what the George R. Brown convention center looks like and some of the beauty around it.

The Moda Dinner in Houston

At every market Moda is gracious and hosts a dinner for all it's customers. My travel friend is a Moda customer so we attend this event together. At each market Moda has a theme, this year at Houston it was western. There was a mechanical bull (sorry but you could not get me near it), country western band and many other interesting attractions.

Some attendees went all out and dressed the part as you will see in some of the photos. My friends and I just put on a hat. Enjoy the pictures.

Houston Quilt Market - Oct. 27, 2012

We adopted a cute little Chihuahua puppy from a friend who could no longer take care of her. She is just 5 months old and is less than 4 pounds. We are in love and our other two dogs are learning to love her. Her name is Bella.

We survived quite the wind and dust storm last night. Beautiful day today. Lots to do before I leave tomorrow. More fabric to cut for the show and everything needs to be packed into the truck later today.

Another day of packing for the Long Beach show. We will also visit the garment district. This is my first time and I am very excited. I will take pictures to share.

It was a busy day today, getting things ready for the Long Beach show. My sister and I worked hard, she put together kits and I worked on hand outs. Tomorrow I will pull patterns for the show and cut fabric. Looking forward to the trip.

It has been awhile since I have blogged and I must apologize. The last day of June and here in the Phoenix valley there is a heat advisory, it is VERY hot. I love it here and as long as I have air the heat can rage on outside, at least we don't have to shovel it.

My day has been taken up with writing; I am working on four new patterns. Actually the pattern has already been designed, I am just writing it. With three new projects going on, things are quite exciting.

To break up my day I went swimming and then made Monster Cookies. I doubled the batch, it is hard to break old habits. I always doubled cookie receipts when I was baking for my five children. The good thing is cookies will freeze, unless my husband eats them all.

I thought you might like to take a look at the new projects, so I added the pictures of what is going on.

Kennedy & Monkey
I made Danny for my Grandbaby Kennedy before she was born. My Daughter wanted a pictureof Kennedy, and her "Monkey Girl". I didn't
sculpture the hands and feet, but still might. They bothhave tutus on, and "Monkey Girls" shirt says "Kennedy's Monkey Girl". I also have a picture of both ofthem from the back, and Kennedy has her arm around her Monkey
