A team of four St. Mary Immaculate School students are the 1st Place Champions of the 2012 "It's Academic" 7th Grade Quiz Bowl held on Tuesday, January 24th at Montini Catholic High School in Lombard.

Michael O'Grady, Josh Stadler, Meghan Howat, and Denny Malec competed for St. Mary Immaculate School. In addition to the team championship, Individual Championships were won by Michael O'Grady in Mathematics and Denny Malec in Social Studies/Current Events. Forty-eight 7th grade students from 12 area Catholic grade schools participated in the event.

Holy Ghost School Teacher Wins 3M Star in the Classroom Award

Rose Kaspar, 7th grade teacher at Holy Ghost School in Wood Dale IL, will receive the 3M Star in the Classroom Award, sponsored by 3M and Econ Illinois. The award recognizes educators who have incorporated economic education into the classroom and provided a learning environment that has allowed for student success.

The award will be presented at the Econ Illinois annual Economic Educator Day Awards Luncheon held at the Union League Club of Chicago on October 25, 2011. Ms. Kaspar will receive a framed certificate, cash award and a unique professional development opportunity.

St. Joan of Arc Catholic School Wins National Blue Ribbon Award

The U.S. Department of Education announced Thursday the selection of St. Joan of Arc as a 2011 National Blue Ribbon School. The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools that are either high performing or have improved student achievement to high levels. St. Joan of Arc is one of only 49 private schools and 256 public schools in the nation to win this prestigious award. St Joan of Arc was a named a Blue Ribbon School for its academic excellence. 600 St. Joan of Arc Students Form Live Peace Symbol

Students commemorated the 10th anniversary of 9/11 by discerning the role that peace can play in each of their lives and dedicated the day’s curriculum to the cause. The day began in prayer at an all school Mass. Students also performed 3 random acts of kindness and studied biographies of those who dedicated their lives to peace. The day culminated with a flag dedication ceremony as students formed a live peace symbol in the school parking lot. The Mayor of Lisle, Fire Department and Village Dignitaries were also in attendance.

St. Joan of Arc Parishioners will come together in a special 9/11 4 p.m. Prayer Service to pray for peace and remember in prayer all those who gave their lives while protecting our nation.
