New Life for Aquinas Catholic Academy

Aquinas Catholic Academy has more than doubled its number of Latino students and, for the first time in decades, enrollment has grown instead of declined. Going into the 2013-14 school year, 67 students from the Hispanic Initiative are registered. "We've experienced such renewal, Sr. Nancy says. "These families have enriched our community. They've given with such a spirit of generosity. From painting parts of the school on the weekends to donating a magnificent statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe that travels from one classroom to classroom, this community has brought new life to us and we are the better for it."

We honor Kathleen Winters as Technology Educator of the Year for her innovative and creative use of technology within the classroom and outside the classroom with her colleagues and fellow educators.

We honor St. James the Apostle School as Technology School of the Year for the many ways they have advanced technology within their school. They are the first Catholic school in Illinois to develop an app for Android and IOS devices which allows families to read on their phone school announcements, school facts and access teachers’ assignment notebooks.

Mr. Terry Granger has been named as the new principal and chief administrator for Bishop McNamara Catholic High School in Kankakee, by Most Rev. R. Daniel Conlon, Bishop of the Diocese of Joliet. Granger, the current principal of Maternity of the BVM in Bourbonnais has a well-established and highly respected reputation as an exemplary educator and successful administrator. "Bishop McNamara Catholic High School is fortunate to have a leader of the caliber of Terry Granger as its new Principal and Chief Administrator. Terry brings exceptional leadership, exemplary educational experience and strong Catholic values and vision to this important work of the diocese," said Rev. Over $2,100 Raised for Make-A-Wish

Students at St. Mary Immaculate Parish School, in Plainfield, raised over $2,100 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, slightly besting last year’s total. Student Council members sponsored the "Jeans for Wishes" event, in which students happily traded their uniforms for the chance to wear blue jeans to school. For a nominal fee, students could buy the jeans option for a single day or a full week.

Prayerful Rally for Religious Freedom

Joliet - 175 students, staff members and parents from St. Paul the Apostle School in Joliet IL participated in a peaceful and prayerful rally for Religious Freedom around the parish property in response to the President's HSS mandate. Students in grades four through seven processed with signs of support demonstrating their 1st Amendment rights to religion, freedom of speech and the right to assemble. Drivers responded by honking in support. The students recited the rosary as they walked.

St. Paul the Apostle is a preschool through 8th grade private Catholic school of 370 students in the Diocese of Joliet.

A team of four St. Mary Immaculate School students are the 1st Place Champions of the 2012 "It's Academic" 7th Grade Quiz Bowl held on Tuesday, January 24th at Montini Catholic High School in Lombard.

Michael O'Grady, Josh Stadler, Meghan Howat, and Denny Malec competed for St. Mary Immaculate School. In addition to the team championship, Individual Championships were won by Michael O'Grady in Mathematics and Denny Malec in Social Studies/Current Events. Forty-eight 7th grade students from 12 area Catholic grade schools participated in the event.

Holy Ghost School Teacher Wins 3M Star in the Classroom Award

Rose Kaspar, 7th grade teacher at Holy Ghost School in Wood Dale IL, will receive the 3M Star in the Classroom Award, sponsored by 3M and Econ Illinois. The award recognizes educators who have incorporated economic education into the classroom and provided a learning environment that has allowed for student success.

The award will be presented at the Econ Illinois annual Economic Educator Day Awards Luncheon held at the Union League Club of Chicago on October 25, 2011. Ms. Kaspar will receive a framed certificate, cash award and a unique professional development opportunity.

St. Joan of Arc Catholic School Wins National Blue Ribbon Award

The U.S. Department of Education announced Thursday the selection of St. Joan of Arc as a 2011 National Blue Ribbon School. The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools that are either high performing or have improved student achievement to high levels. St. Joan of Arc is one of only 49 private schools and 256 public schools in the nation to win this prestigious award. St Joan of Arc was a named a Blue Ribbon School for its academic excellence. 600 St. Joan of Arc Students Form Live Peace Symbol

Students commemorated the 10th anniversary of 9/11 by discerning the role that peace can play in each of their lives and dedicated the day’s curriculum to the cause. The day began in prayer at an all school Mass. Students also performed 3 random acts of kindness and studied biographies of those who dedicated their lives to peace. The day culminated with a flag dedication ceremony as students formed a live peace symbol in the school parking lot. The Mayor of Lisle, Fire Department and Village Dignitaries were also in attendance.

St. Joan of Arc Parishioners will come together in a special 9/11 4 p.m. Prayer Service to pray for peace and remember in prayer all those who gave their lives while protecting our nation.
