So much has happened since we were last here.

Could feel really guilty about my absence from blogging but I’m not going to.

While I was surfing for blogging inspiration I ran across … 10 Writing Tips from the Masters a short, sweet and inspirational piece.

Found myself pondering the quote …

The way you define yourself as a writer is that you write every time you have a free minute. If you didn’t behave that way you would never do anything. ~John Irving

Suppose that applies to more than just blogging.

[wink & smile here]

Sending a letter or card is the next best thing to showing up personally at someone’s door.

Why …

Ink from your pen touches the stationary, your fingers touch the paper, your saliva seals the envelope. Something tangible from your world travels through machines and hands, and deposits itself in anothers mailbox. Your letter is then carried inside as an invited guest. The paper that was sitting on your desk, now sits on another’s. The recipient handles the paper that you handled. Letters create a connection that modern, impersonal forms of communication will never approach.

Words of wisdom taken from The Art of Letter Writing

How in the world can anyone consider a catalog to be junk mail?

I don’t get it. Especially this time of year.

All of those beautiful home & garden catalogs filled with beautiful images of floral days to come.

Cool how my minds eye can just picture so many of the offerings replicated in the yard.

Even though I prefer a mailed version of catalogs, there are a few favorite online garden spots I love to visit …

OC Farm Supply

Organic Gardening

Summer Hill Seeds

and no spring planting season would be complete BHG’s Free Garden Plans.

Nothing better than digging dirt!

Have a great weekend!

Emily Post (1873–1960). Etiquette

The letter we all love to receive is one that carries so much of the writer’s personality that she seems to be sitting beside us, looking at us directly and talking just as she really would, could she have come on a magic carpet, instead of sending her proxy in ink-made characters on mere paper.

Let us suppose we have received one of those perfect letters from Mary, one of those letters that seem almost to have written themselves, so easily do the words flow, so bubbling and effortless is their spontaneity. There is a great deal in the letter about Mary, not only about what she has been doing, but what she has been thinking, or perhaps, feeling. And there is a lot about us in the letter—nice things, that make us feel rather pleased about something that we have done, or are likely to do, or that some one has said about us. We know that all things of concern to us are of equal concern to Mary, and though there will be nothing of it in actual words, we are made to feel that we are just as secure in our corner of Mary’s heart as ever we were. And we finish the letter with a very vivid remembrance of Mary’s sympathy, and a sense of loss in her absence, and a longing for the time when Mary herself may again be sitting on the sofa beside us and telling us all the details her letter can not but leave out.

It all started three years ago, Kralik said. His life was really going down the tubes, personally and professionally, when one day, while walking, he heard an inner voice telling him to start writing thank you notes.

“I wasn’t that grateful of a person,” said Kralik. “I wasn’t noticing the good things that happened to me each day. I wasn’t noticing the good people I was encountering every day.”
