If you’re using Adsense, no doubt you would have seen a little section that speaks about your ‘CTR’. Your CTR is a very important part of  Adsense and for many people determines whether they make a little or a lot by using the program. This article will show you the three main tips for increasing your CTR and earning more through Adsense.

What is CTR?
CTR stands for ‘Click Through Rate’. This basically indicates what percentage of your visitors click one of the Adsense adverts. So if, for example, you get one hundred visitors and four clicks, you’ll have a CTR of 4%.

#1: Placement
Where you place your adverts will affect the CTR in a very big way. For example, if you put the adverts right at the bottom of the page, no one will see them, and therefore no one will click them. I recommend that you put them near the header, sidebar and even in content. Failing that, make sure the ads are in a prominent position where they’re bound to get noticed.

If you’re going to try and fiddle around with the placement of your adverts, make sure that you are following the Adsense Rules, as if you break them you’ll probably get banned and Google are known for hardly ever letting publishers back into the program.

#2: Coloring
The color that you have your Adverts is a major factor in CTR success. If you have a green advert on a black page, it will be obvious that it’s an advert and will therefore probably make your CTR worse. If, however, you blend in the background of the advert with the background of your page and put the text to the same colour as your content, you’re bound to get more clicks.

Again, be careful using this method as it’s very easy to breach the Adsense terms of service. From experience, I think the main point is to make sure that the ‘Ads by Google’ text is clearly visible.

#3: Use keyword rich content
The way Adsense chooses which adverts to display on your website is a very clever system. They automatically pull different keywords from your content and match the adverts to those words. Because of this, if you make sure you’re using keyword filled content that is relevant to your site’s niche, you’re bound to get clicks from people looking to buy products related to your site.

The rule to remember about using keyword rich content is that you still have a visitor to please, and you shouldn’t forget that. In the longer scheme of things, it’s much better to use well written content that engages readers than content that is hard to understand yet keyword rich.
Remember that the reader is king!

This all has to do with keeping vigilant in streamlining my blog commenting strategy. I wrote about this once before and it hasn’t worked out too well recently, all due to Yahoo’s “customer care” being non-existent.

Long story short, if you have your Feedburner account set to notify of email unsubscribes (which you should!), don’t panic; there’s a good chance I immediately resubscribed under a different address…it does not notify you of this.

If you’re over the age of 5, you’ve heard of Google (computers in kindergarten classes). If you’ve been marketing for more then 5 minutes, you’ve most likely heard of “bad neighborhoods” and the Google concern.

I think most would agree, porn is the baddest of the bad when it comes to ‘net neighborhoods. ALL in the know would also agree that a non-porn site should never link to a porn site…it’s just bad business all around, right?

Hmm, but what about linking to a non-porn marketing blog that is linking to a porn blog…even in a non-conventional way? Although this link is not on the homepage, it is quite BLATANT. Scenario…..

There is a marketing blog you frequent. A very popular marketing blog that you have read for quite some time. You know it could be quite beneficial to advertise there. You suddenly think to yourself that you never actually explored this blog past the immediate articles, so you decide, what the hell, before I advertise I’ll click a few links.

You start with the “testimonials” page. Why not? lets see who else loves this blog right? It’s easy to get to as it’s only one link off the homepage…hey maybe I’ll even send in my own testimonial; free advertsing!

BAM! Right at the top of the page (or even in the middle or end for that matter) is a glowing testimonial from another blogger. A PORN blogger. Now we all know, one of the key reasons for giving a testimonial is the link-back to your site.

Suddenly you cringe to the point that your face is about to fall out the back of your head…

This porn testimonial doesn’t just have a link back, but a BIG FAT BANNER over it. Good lord. The banner isn’t nude or anything, but it is still blatantly advertising a porn blog.

Now, would you advertise anywhere on this blog? Don’t forget one thing; probably even more important then the Google issues is the fact that other humans will see your ad on this blog that doesn’t mind linking back (or advertising) for a porn blog.

6. Make customer Experience Easy:- Make the process very simple so that even a layman can buy from your website easily . Don’t include the unnecessary steps during checkout and ask for the information which is of no use or your audience don’t want to give you.

7. Security Measures:- Due to growth in internet scams , No body prefers to give information like credit card , bank account number to any new website . So highlight your policies and steps which you are taking to tell your audience that their information is save with you and could not be used for illegal purposes .

8. Images or Flashes:- Use High quality images of product so that your audience can get the complete idea . But avoid to use unnecessary images or lot of Flash because it would take more time to load for persons with slow internet connections .Am ideal website should load in 4 seconds.

9. F-Shape:- Studies have revealed that Content presented in F-shape is easy to read and has more impact on the audience . Human eyes first read the heading and then scan the content from left to right. An F-shaped page can lead to high conversions. Therefore, try to put your content in F-shape while designing your pages.

10. Simple urls:-.Put the product name or keywords in your url so that Customer could get the idea of product available on specific page. Avoid using Dynamic urls with symbols & and ? as they are hard for both human users and search engines . Make your urls simple and short so that they are easy to remember. Don’t use more than 3 deep levels in your internal directory structure

11. Special offers/Discount Coupons:- Don’t forget to highlight special offers and discount coupons you are offering on your products . Everybody love discounts and free gifts. Try to give special treatment to repeat customers.

12. Launch Affiliate Programs:- Each successful website have their own affiliate programs .Affiliate program would help you in developing relationships with like minded people of your community and increase your sales force .

Remember that visitors of your website don’t have enough time to find details about your products and their features. A normal visitor would not spend more that 10 seconds to develop his/her first opinion about your website. So you should try to provide as much relevant information as you can in first 10 seconds so that you can get a positive response from your visitor.

I started my reply of course with some well placed playful sarcasm stating, “That depends on who you know.” (If you think about it, it’s true ain’t it? lol)

They’re listed on the sales page and I did say in the review, and I quote “Out of all 100 names, I recognize maybe a tiny handful of “guru’s”. Most (to me) are regular Joe’s and Jane’s like you and I who did what they did and do what they do everyday as full time marketers and are now able to share (generously) some of that knowledge.”
