"Great Faucet, return policy, poor stock supply" 2010-03-29

I ordered this Schon faucet because of its excellent looks. The faucet arrived in a new box and looked good. The last thing to do was hookup the quick connect hose to the spout. The water was turned on only to find a manufacturing defect that caused blockage. No water came out. The blockage was deep inside the spout and impossible to correct. I had to send back the faucet to Amazon. They quickly refunded my purchase. Unfortunately, there were no more faucets left in stock. It could take up to 2-6 months to get new ones in. I bought another faucet through a competitor and installed theirs. Looks great and very well pleased. Just make sure they have multiple product in stock before purchase. Was very impressed by Amazon to refund my cost of faucet and shipping. Thanks Amazon. I will be back for more products.

I ordered three of these units because I am a fan of Danze style and quality. The "good" ones are flawless and a joy to use--as I expected. BUT--one of them had a manufacturing error; the faucet handles were not aligned properly. I was totally surprised that such a mistake would be allowed to leave the factory--the box even had it's little quality control seal. I returned it, of course. So look over your faucet when you get it. Sigh.

"Excellent Faucet But Amazon Reviewers are Frightening" 2010-03-14

This is an excellent faucet for both design and function. But the other review states there is splashing and such to which I say the following:

1. you have infinite temperature AND flow adjustment in the handle. This means you can soften the stream and have NO SPLASHING.
2.you may adjust the flow rate within the base of the housing with an allen wrench and NO SPLASHING as flow will be restricted at max pull out .
3. you may have a license and even use it to drive a car, but I hope if you can't figure out the above two points then you are nowhere near me on the roads as a car has many more complex operations than this simple elegant infinitely adjustable faucet. Please, if you can't figure out how to prevent splashing then check yourself into a mentally challenged facility; the streets and kitchens and sinks of American will be that much safer.

5/5 stars for a faucet that (almost) anyone can use and it's well made and aesthetically pleasing.

The Grohe Ladylux Pro is a beautiful faucet. My hubbie and I spent four weeks researching faucets for our recent kitchen remodel and finally chose with great confidence the Grohe Ladylux. We loved the look, we loved the features, we loved the positive customer feedback. After installation, we felt the same - boy is this a lovely faucet. The water stream is extremely powerful - caked on food dissolves even with cold water - and we loved the pull-down ergonomic head with easy-to-switch sprayer. A few disappointments though, that I wish we had known about before purchase: 1. With the faucet height and the fact that we got a deep sink, the powerful water stream tends to splash everywhere. Sometimes I'd like a bib just to wash my hands. But it makes for constant water wipe-up around the sink area. Secondly, the spray feature only goes one way, i.e., you have to shut the water off and turn it back on to switch from spray back to stream. I use the spray feature a lot, so this extra step is a minor annoyance. But altogether, I really like this product and would highly recommend. Grohe is a super company and produces high-quality products.

"Don't buy!" 2008-05-14

This tub spout diverter came with my Kohler Forte shower and tub trim kit. I had my plumber come back and check its operation because it leaked like a sieve when used to divert water to the shower and it diverted water back into the wall every few seconds. It was correctly installed, this is just how it "works." I sent a video of its operation to the plumbing supply company showing its operation. They replied "stop using it" and sent me a Delta replacement. The Delta was installed by the same plumber and it works beautifully. It is a much better design. I've since had two plumbers from two plumbing companies tell me they never install Kohler diverters because of their inferior design.

"Works Fine, but Not Entirely." 2009-10-18

A couple years ago, we did a minor refurbishing of one of our bathrooms. One of the items was to replace the hardware in our combination fiberglass shower/tub unit. We chose the Price Pfister Marielle single handle tub and shower faucet, as listed here. It was installed by a professional plumber at a cost of over three times the cost of the hardware, but there seemed no other way to get the job done. Well, the first time we tried our new hardware the faucet just didn't work. We got only cold to luke warm water and almost no hot. As such, it was unusable. The plumbers came back (at no additional cost, other than our time), took the thing all apart and reinstalled it. They offered no explanation, but it then worked correctly. Obviously, the difficulty was with the plumbers, not the equipment. Since then, it has worked fine and we love the big shower head.

One other problem appeared and we have been unable to solve it. The spout to fill the tub has a little valve which is lifted as the water is running. The water is then diverted from going directly into the tub and goes through the shower head. The little valve can be clearly seen on the illustration. Well, it leaks. No matter how hard we try to pull it up and divert the water through the shower head, a certain amount of the water continues to flow out of the waterspout and directly into the tub. It doesn't appear to impair the shower in any way, but it's obviously some type of defect that we find annoying.

I added a basement bathroom using this fixture. The valve did not appear to rotate enough from Hot to Cold, but I thought this was part of the design. After installation, the valve does not allow Hot Water to flow therefore I either have to try and repair it or rip the whole unit out of the wall. It has not worked from the beginning.

"horrible amazon experience" 2010-04-26

I bought this faucet and it arrived in 2 days. When I took out the faucet, water started dripping from the connecting lines. Then I noticed drops of water in different parts. I called Kohler to see if this could be because of quality control measures. They said, what I got should be a RETURNED item. I called Amazon and they send another one as a replacement. Right away looking at the box, I saw 3 Kohler labels one, on top of the other. I carefully removed the top only to realize my worst fear that this item was also a returned Item. Both the labels inside were cut. I took the faucet out and once again, the new one(that's what they claim) started dripping water from the connected lines. So, it looks like this was returned atleast 2 times before. This is disgraceful. I lost trust in Amazon. I can't imagine how they can do business by just packaging a used item, when a customer pays full money for the same. This is totally unethical way of doing business and Amazon lost me once for all as a customer.

Beware of any items that you buy from amazon, which is not sealed by the manufacturer.

I replaced a cheap Moen kitchen faucet (put in my Palrm Harbor Discovery modular) that just made 1-1/2 years of use with this faucet. I was drawn to the Kohler faucet because of the beauty of its design. The best looking one on the rows upon rows of faucets at the store. I want to get done quick in the kitchen and the sleek design enables a quick job of cleaning the faucet.

I got in a long conversation with a knowledgeable plumber and he said Kohler products had a good history. He said plumbers had advised Moen products over the years because the cartridge was non-functional after a while and the replacement easy to install so the plumber got a call and lots of money for a quick change with the cartridge itself prohibitively expensive costing around $25. He said the Kohler product would last far longer without any repairs, essentially only requiring descaling of the spout. I had to struggle to turn the Moen from one sink to the other and when the plastic ring that was causing the struggle unseated, I had a spray of water. Hence, the need to repair or replace. Given the hourly rate of plumbers, I figured a repair would last only as long as it did the first time, so elected to improve the faucet and replace. The faucet allows the filling of large containers due to the design and it moves with just a light touch. The spray head moves with ease from the fixed position to the moveable positions. I love the faucet. It is the best one I have ever had and makes kitchen work pleasurable and enjoyble.

It looks exactly how it is in the picture. Functions great! My husband was able to install it in under an hour. It comes with the flat white part around the base that isn't shown in the picture. We weren't expecting to come and though we would have to purchase that separately, but it came with it!! The weight is perfect to where when I pull the nozzle down and out, it will go right back up smoothly with out having to push it in myself. Works wonderfully!! Don't spend 500 + dollars on a facet... this one is better looking and better priced than any other faucet. We've had it for over a month now and no problems at all!

This thing does come in quality packaging and looks nice. It says white, but it is a little off-white so be aware. Also, I did a lot of comparisons to other faucet and high dollar brands and selected this one as it most closely matched what I was trying to replace. $100 vs 300-400 is a big difference and pretty close qulaity from my usage over the last month. Im happy with it and the only minor down side is that it has a nylon type lining around the extension tubing. What this means is that is doesnt retract as smoothly and the weight that pulls it down (which is on all extension hoses) doesnt seem as heavy as it should be, so I will be visiting the hardware store to find something to add some weight on this line.

This is our second Aqualife Pullout faucet. We bought our townhouse and the previous owner installed this unit in our kitchen. When we bought our townhouse, we know the faucet was used and considered replacing it. We started using it and liked it so much that we kept the unit. That was in 2003. Now, in 2009, the top of the pull down where the switch is has finally showed enough wear that we are replacing it. We went to Loews and Home Depot but could not find this unit there. There are plenty of knock offs. My wife found the same unit on Amazon (thanks!)and we are installing it today. Since we don't know how old our original Aqualife is, I would guess to say it is at least 7 years old. It has never leaked and has always retracted correctly. We have the pullout unit which is different than the drop down. The old faucet is still working ok, it is just that the rubberized switch where the unit can switch on the sprayer has got a small tear due to repetitive use. The faucet never leaked. We also have somewhat hard water here in Florida.

Easy instalation,Smart engineering,Smoothe operation, handle works effortlesly I anticipate having this faucet for many years to come due to the quality and its use of ceramic internals. The handle mounting takes some getting use to but is easily mastered given time. The Pulldown feature needs improvement as it requires assistance to return to its parked position and does not return fully flush leaving a gap of about 1/8" a minor problem indeed and I would venture to say that the Co. would rectify the problem if asked to do so. I believe a heavier return weight to be needed.
All in all a great product at a great price. Would buy again. Also the folks at Waxman are pleasant and helpful folks to deal with as I spoke to them about their product prior to purchase.

"Elegant, functional and it fits!" 2009-11-04

First, I have previously reviewed an excellent Grohe kitchen faucet and would still recommend this faucet highly. The reason for replacing it with this equally excellent Kohler relates to how the unit fits given a change that we have made while remodeling the kitchen. In doing the remodel we are replacing an existing ceramic tile backsplash with granite. Critically, the granite backsplash is deeper and therefore intrudes on the top of the granite countertop further than the old tile backsplash did.

The operating lever on the Grohe is longer and positioned in the center of the faucet, so when you pushd the lever back to get hot water, it would touch the tile at the full hot setting. With the granite being deeper, this lever would not be able to go to full hot because the granite would block the lever! Not a good thing!

The Kohler eliminates this problem in two ways: First, the lever is shorter and therefore pushing it towards the rear does not extend the lever as far back and second, the valve and handle are towards the front of the faucet rather than centered with it. This means that the lever barely exceeds the rear of the faucet by 1/2" at full hot where the Grohe requires almost 3 1/2" of clearance for the handle to reach full hot position!

Grohe makes an excellent faucet and this is in no way a criticism of their mechanical, cosmetic or functional quality. But if you have any restrictions on space, especially behind the faucet where the lever throw can be critical, this Kohler will deliver the style and quality while fitting in much tighter spots!

Oh, and the design is really nicely functional, too. Put a pasta pot under this without problem - both the extended height and reach make filling such oversized pots and pans a snap!

"Moen Chateau Shower, Set up Tips and More" 2010-03-13

Having gone through all of the research for a newbie shower valve assy installation, I thought I would share some of that with you here. I paid my dues so why should you? :-) Anyhow, this shower model L2352 as the ad states does not come with volume control. What that means is the actual valve does not have the 2 adjusters, one on each side, one to control the hot overall inflow, and the other to control the cold overall inflow. The adjustable ones have a threaded adjusting rod with a seating nut so you can secure the setting once you found your ideal spot. The old Moen shower setup I was replacing had two adjustments, one that you pull away from the wall, and the other you turn in a clockwise direction for example to adjust the temperature setting. These new ones do not have that flow/pull it away from the wall option. They only adjust by spinning them around clockwise, which turns it on at a full flow, and adjusts temp considering where you leave the dial.

So to shed some light on the flow problem, my neighbor had a contractor install a shower and valve assy., one of unknown origin in their shower. It also did not have adjusters. The contractor also installed an energy saving shower massage, or shower head that produced a scant amount of flow. They complained because the flow was insufficient, which led them to taking much longer showers to get the job done of completely rinsing off. So they put on a fuller flow head, and then they didn't like it because the water flow was too much. All of this led to the problem of not having an adjustable flow control setting. You could install a couple of ball valves, or even a faucet type valve somewhere along the feed line, but that would result in you possibly having to go downstairs, and either have someone upstairs on the phone while taking a shower telling you which setting they like the best, or you have to try a setting, take a shower, try it again, etc. So it is ideal to have the 2 set screws right in front of you when you are taking the shower to get your preferences right.

All of this could be eliminated by using the combination of this high quality, yet money saving Chateau L2352, in combination with the consumer reports number one rated shower head; Moen 21777BN Brushed Nickel Inspire Inspire Seven Function Shower Head Only with 1/2 Inch Connection 21777 (or preferably get the 21778 with the shower massage setup) That puts out the preferred econo flow of 2.5 That is what I have, and I love the flow level. The satisfaction that is derived from that shower head is like the results of consumer reports; they used about 70 subjects who tried all different shower heads and flow levels, and hands down the Moen models I just mentioned won. Not only did they conserve water, they created such a large head, with so many fine jets, that you felt like you were getting flooded with water, but were actually conserving water instead. (Don't tell anyone :-) let them think they are getting the major flow model)

When I first went in to take a shower, I was anticipating a scarcer feeling flow, so much so that I wanted to even reduce it some. It was at that point that I understood that having the ideally suited adjustment would be nice. But upon taking my second shower, and having adjusted my mind to it, I loved the precise amount of flow I was already getting. (If not I could tweak it by installing the shut off valves inline) I really don't want to change a thing.

I had read in the forums that Moen does not advise you to install a shower shut off at the head, something about possibly damaging the anti-scalding valve. Calling the included 800 number for Moen was great. They are ready to answer any one of your installation etc. questions.

This Chateau model is a beautiful set. I also bought the Moen Model 1920: Chrome Remodeling Cover Plate which has the wonderful quality Moen chrome finish. It almost looks like it was hand polished as a final step. Cover plates are the wide cover that goes under the standard plate in the event that you are upgrading your old 2 handle model to this type that has the single handle and anti-scalding valve. If you need to knock out tile to open it up the hole is covered by the remodeling plate. The exact dimensions as well as other info are all available in PDF format at Moen.

My brother told me to get the brushed nickel because that was all the rage. I was considering doing a return exchange etc, but when I saw what the prices were I decided the chrome was great. The shower room is a separate room so to speak, and think when I do the bathroom, I am going to be looking for a combo brushed nickel and chrome set for the faucets which will tie it all together. I just got the Oxo Steel Garlic Press, Stainless which has that same combination which is gorgeous.

So there you have it. Get this Moen Chateau single, and save a bundle over the other models, and use the number one rated shower head to automatically adjust the flow to the precise spot you want, and save on the water bill. By the way that shower head is large enough to give you the feel of one of those very expensive huge rain shower heads, yet smaller enough to make it a comfortable hand held.

Another by the way is be sure and install the pipe to mount the head included in the kit with the long part going into the wall. That way you have sufficient clearance for the hose, away from the wall to allow the shower head to be adjusted to any position that suits you; even straight down, once again, creating that rainfall large head feeling.
I'm out of space, so with all of this info you should be able to make the right decision for yourself. One note of caution pricing for these items varies widely. I did buy both the chateau shower posi-temp and cover plate here at Amazon, which had the best prices.

One final item worth mentioning is that I have an older home circa 1955 and the wall this setup is mounted into is 2 1/2" deep, the maximum depth allowable with the kit. When I installed the cover plate, that took up another 3/4". I was heartbroken when I felt like I had to return it for a flat plate, because the beauty of this thing, the way it is sculpted, and with a polished chrome look, I didn't want to part with it. Then I discovered that Moen sells an extension kit for walls that measure much thicker than that. All it is comprised of is a longer chrome tube that the handle mounts too, and some longer screws. So now I can enjoy the full setup including the remodeling plate. If you pull your existing plate off and take some measurements from the center of the pipe line, to the inside wall of your shower, you can use that info to check with the PDF file diagrams available for free at [...].

One more installation tip: Ignore the sticker on the valve section warning you to take it easy when soldering it in because you can damage the plastic and rubber valve components; instead, remove them altogether. It is so easy to just take it out, and then solder away the brass body. The secret to removing it is to use the included plastic removing tool. It has a square head on it so you can use a wrench or a pair of pliers to grab it. It slides down over the valve, and the 2 extender pieces sit down in there so you can spin it. Then just turn it like you would remove a jar lid, and because of the tapered sides at the top it pops. Then just use a good pair of pliers, and pull on the stem, and it comes right out. Everything that you would be concerned about overheating is contained right inside of the cartridge. The body as I mentioned is all metal. When you are done, reinstalling is even easier. Just line up the plastic tab marked H-C at the top, and top is marked "Up" on the housing, and push it straight in all the way. Your done. It couldn't be simpler.

Oh and one more thing. Remember how I said that the price on this stuff is all over the place. I just saw, current as of today, the model from Moen just like this one; the one with the volume control, and the price wasn't that much different than this one. So if you want to use your old shower head, and set it and forget it concerning the flow level, get that one instead. I love the consumer reports number one rated shower head mentioned above. It makes all the difference. The Chateau is nice for anti-scalding, but you won't notice much of a difference over what you already had, when you add the shower head, you are on a different planet.

The initial reason why I bought this posi-temp model is that I no longer have to fear someone flushing a toilet, or turning on a spigot in the house while I am showering and then getting scalded. I got so caught up in the design and installation stuff I almost forgot to mention that. I love my new shower setup, and I believe you will too.

I had not heard of Danze when reviewing bath products for my remodel. I asked a couple plumbers I know about Danze & they too had not heard of it. I did some research online & decided to try the products. I was pleasantly surprised with the high quality of the Danze fixtures. It is definitely "high-end" and compares to Groeh and other luxury fixtures. The price on Amazon for this product was an exceptional deal. The Danze comes with excellent instruction material & is superior packaging. I highly recommend for others for bath or kitchen remodels/upgrades. The roman tub fixture looks absolutely stunning in my new bath. So much so that I bought the matching shower & vanity fixtures.
