Makermade: Heather Treadway, a film by Andrew Burke for Olio United

Olio United launches its Makermade film series. Produced with Andrew Burke, Makermade are short documentaries about the designers, the makers behind the labels. The first film features Portland designer, Heather Treadway, whose work—casual pieces for hanging out, biking—is available in the Olio United online shop.

Originally on NE Alberta IDOM (827 NW 23rd) has moved to a dream space on 23rd, the former Seaplane location (Seaplane is now at 2266 NW Lovejoy). IDOM carries the directional label of the same name designed by owner Modi Soondarotok as well as pieces from Iro, Dolce Vita, Jenny Yuen Handbags, and more

I’m going to keep an eye on Portland-based fashion designer Jessie DeWall whose new line, Heating and Cooling, debuted at the recent STRUT fashion show benefit for Basic Rights Oregon. Perhaps the reason I find the collection so appealing is that she based it on “colors reminiscent of instant photography in the 70’s,” but it’s notable for the excellent keyhole cutouts on top and dress and some of the piecing on the menswear.

DeWall is still in school at the Art Institute. For now, she’s doing custom orders of her spring collection (photos here) as well as the perfect fit jeans she creates.

When the Portland-based fashion designer Gretchen Jones (Moth Love) met widely-published illustrator Jordan Domont, this resulted:

And then Hunt + Gather a screenprinted line of easy-to-wear pieces for him and her. Racer-back tank tunic or very scooped tunic/dress with a sliced geode print for her, for example, and a v-neck sweater for him with a paneled back in an oversized mock ikat print. Very subtle, very good.
