Topanga Artist Catherine Tirr’s Gorgeous Watercolors will be on sale at Vidiots on Pico in Santa Monica, Saturday, October 6, 12:30 – 3:30 p.m.  Catherine is a long-time Topangan whose works have been exhibited at LACMA, The Armand Hammer Museum, and various other venues, both here in L.A. and internationally. She also teaches art with a gentle, enjoyable approach.

Perfect for early holiday shopping for a very special someone, there are over 500 paintings, many of which are demonstrating particular painting techniques. Browse through the selections, and pick out your favorites. I’m warning you – it will be tough to narrow down your selections.  I won’t even pretend to know anything technical about art, but I LOVE Catherine’s work. Something about the way her paintings have a dreamy and deep feeling…..yeah, I’ll leave the critique to the professionals.

The current show at The Topanga Canyon Gallery brings together three wonderful Topanga Artists for “Journey – Three Artists, Three Journeys.”

Robin Becker, Rebecca Catterall, and Paula Fagan have transformed the Gallery into a nomadic tent to enhance your experience as you travel through their art journey. They have also opened their hearts by putting art up for raffle to benefit Liberty Children’s Home, an orphanage in Belize. The show will run through September 30, 2012.

Come to the opening reception, Saturday evening, September 8th, from 4-7 p.m.  There will also be a Closing reception and Artist’ Talk on September 30th, from 2-5 p.m.

California Home Prices very from region to region. Here is an interesting look at the median prices of homes for sale in the state. According to the California Association of Realtors, home affordability has risen to 56%. Welcome news after seeing periods of less than 30% of people able to buy a home at the height of the market frenzy. Our Topanga Home Market has been very busy, but the lack of inventory is a bit frustrating for buyers – and there are many buyers searching for homes right NOW. With LAUSD making so many cuts to the arts and humanities, it was a pleasure to walk through the Topanga Canyon Gallery doors to see the youthful creations from our own Topanga Charter Elementary School students. “Lovefest” was the title of the school’s gallery art show fundraiser.  Each class used a different medium with which to express their visions of love.  From collage to lost wax casting to an actual stone maze, each piece was a beautiful, individual expression of a child’s idea, as well as a group project collaboration within the classroom.  Here are a few of the images.
