Encouraging young people to think about their ideas, environment, fashion and other influences, how they shape their identity and how they can share these experiences in a format that others will want to read.

The Cut team will offer young people the opportunity to develop their ideas further after the session if they want to be published in the newspaper or online. Facilitated by Words of Colour.

Do you ever want to do something completely different, not just follow the flow and do what is expected of you?

Do something that your friends and family won’t expect of you?

Well here’s a chance to do just that.

Have you ever wanted to fly and soar through the air?

For 8 weeks, once a week, we’ll train you in some of the aerial flying techniques that the professionals use in Circus, Theatre, Film and TV. The course is open to everybody including absolute beginners, you don’t need any previous experience and it is absolutely 100% safe.

You will also get the chance to showcase these skills to friends and family.

Led by young journalists from The Cut newspaper, the only London-wide colour newspaper for and by young people, facilitated by Words of Colour.

This session will be based on a real live editorial news meeting. Come and discuss with young journalists from The Cut about writing for a newspaper, how to develop a theme, how to edit, and how to write stories and illustrate them for publication in the newspaper or online. This event is part of the East festival.

Eastside Educational Trust is now recruiting new members for the Cultural Ambassadors programme.

Over the past two years Cultural Ambassadors have gone to see arts and cultural events and workshops all over Hackney, learning new skills and being representatives for the Discover Young Hackney festival.

If you join you will be able to get an Arts Award accreditation for your involvement and will be able to feed your ideas into the planning for the Discover Young Hackney festival.

We want young people aged 12-16 to join up from all over Hackney so Cultural Ambassadors can truly represent a Hackney-wide festival – so wherever you come from in Hackney, if you are interested in the arts give us a call!

What is the time commitment?
Thursday evenings 4.30 – 6.30pm.
During half term we will also be doing loads of great things like going on a trip and running our own workshop for all our friends.

Where does it take place?
The meetings and workshops take place at Eastside, a Shoreditch Arts organisation which can be found at 37 Hackney Road, E2 7NX. It’s the big purple building right by the bus stop. See Map.

Will I need to have special skills?
No, you will get all the training you need.

Arcola's Technical Theatre and Event Management training will teach you a broad range of skills and prepare you for a job working in the creative industries or provide a foundation for Higher Education training.

Course includes :
- how to operate lighting and sound equipment
- use of sustainable energy technology, including hydrogen fuel cells
- how to organise, manage and promote public events
- career advice and guidance
- teaching from industry professionals
- cv writing skills
- showcase event for potential employers

Hackney Empire: Building the Future

THURSDAY 25 FEBRUARY, 6.30PM - 8PM

You are invited to a public meeting to hear future plans for the Hackney Empire and to ask any questions of a panel made up of Empire Senior Staff and Board of Trustees together with officers from the Arts Council and the London Borough of Hackney. The meeting will be independently chaired by a leading arts professional. Questions will be taken from the floor but - if you cannot make the meeting - you may email your questions to info@hackneyempire.co.uk and we will do our best to include them. The meeting will take place in the Empire auditorium and admission is free.
