Every human being has a desire to do something great and wonderful. There is a desire in us to achieve success in life. Nobody likes or wants to fail. Just like, I have said in the previous chapter, we are the clay and God is the potter. There is something else you must know and understand when you have found your purpose in life. That is, that God has given you potential or gifts to accomplish your purpose here on earth.

This potential is in every human being. It is like an oil well. When you have the discover oil on a plot of land you do not just leave it there on the surface. You have to dig deeper into the ground before you get to where the main oil. When you get the oil raw you need to refine it before it can be converted to many other uses. However, the important thing is that the oil is discovered. It is the same thing with your potentials. You have to discover it.

WHAT IS POTENTIAL?

Potentials are those raw talents and abilities that God has deposited in our lives waiting to be tapped by us. They are the raw materials God has given to us as a gift to accomplish our purpose here on earth and fulfill destiny. God gave them to us so that we can achieve great things for him; better our life, and the lives of other people. The way we dispense and utilize these potentials will determine whether we succeed in life or fail. It will also determine the quality of lives that we will live. Some people are doing the jobs that they do not like. They complained about it but does nothing more than complain. The simple reason for this most time is because they have not sit down to ask themselves: “What is my purpose on this earth and what has God given me to accomplish this purpose?” In other words, they have not discovered their purpose let alone discovering their potentials. You must know that the discovery of your purpose has something to do with the discovery of your potentials, which in turn helps you to locate your destiny on God’s agenda. God has a great plan for your life so He gives you the abilities and talents to accomplish that plan. Then God declared in his word: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end”. (Jer 29:11)

The scripture we have read above is important for us to understand the subject we are dealing with here today. It says that God has given gifts to each of us, and that we should manage this gift well so that God’s generosity can flow through us. If you are called to be a speaker then speak well, that is your potential. If you are called to help others then do it as though God Himself were doing it, which is your potential. If you are called to sing then sing well. God has given you the potential. If you are called to be a writer then please use this potential and write well. When you do then you will find yourself living a fulfilled life and be happy

There has been this craze on "Strategic HR" for years. Every HR conference seems to revolve around it or has at least a couple of sessions on this topic. Suddenly, even entry-level HR people were talking of strategic HR. However, I believe it is not the strategic aspects that these personnel and most HR people need. They need guidance on the skills for the real world - the operational day-to-day world. Yes, maybe we need to think strategy but that comes once we have mastered the operational level issues. For a good take-off, we need a good runway.

When HR personnel ask me what skills they should master. I tell them the following:

1. Transaction skills: Yes, HR is going to involve a lot of transactions - responding to employees on queries, preparing reports, organizing events, coordinating interviews, and so on. One needs to manage these transactions well. This requires skills for good planning, multi-tasking, prioritizing, and knowledge of tools, such as Microsoft office etc.

2. Responsiveness: HR personnel have to deal with a lot of internal customers. And, just as in any other relationship-building activity, the key is responsiveness. This involves getting back to people promptly, giving an honest opinion (politely), picking up the phone and talking when required (not always relying on emails and chats), and closing the loop.

3. Assertiveness: The expectations from HR personnel are always high as they are caught between the needs of employees and constraints of a business organization. It is difficult to satisfy everybody all the time. Maybe that should not even be considered a goal. The goal should be helping employees to manage their expectations and making organizations improve their people processes, within the constraints of business. However, more often HR personnel become frustrated because of over-sensitiveness to employee needs, indifference or helplessness.

4. Problem-solving: HR is into problem-solving just as any other function, for example manufacturing or finance. In this case, problem-solving involves people, and hence, it is more challenging (numbers and technical issues are easier). Careful analysis based on facts, understanding the context of the behavior or perception (involving people), and suggesting possible solutions is a required skill. As one goes up the HR ladder, this will be called for time and again, maybe the complexity will be higher at higher levels.

5. Systemic thinking: HR does not operate in isolation. It has strong interrelationship with other entities, within and without the organization; for example, the line function and other staff functions internally and externally with legal authorities, vendors and so on. HR needs to assimilate information and knowledge and connect them to the HR function in one's company.

This long word hinders many people from achieving anything worthwhile in this life. As a result of this setback, they are unable to archive meaningful objectives mainly because they refuse to take action.
They make it a habit to put things they ought to do immediately off, as long as they could hoping to tackle the job or assignment at a more favourable time in the future which of course, we all know never really comes.

Every child is blessed at birth with a special gift. She is predisposed to have certain likes and dislikes. There is something she is good at. Children have particular interests. If your child learns to give up when things get difficult, he will not be able to overcome the obstacles in his own life. One of the most effective defense against despair and depression at any age is the “I can and I will” attitude. You can help your child develop this positive attitude during play time. You can encourage him to play the games that he likes. During rich imaginative play children learn to solve problems. Make sure that during play time your child takes challenges that are at or a bit above his current skills. Let your child experience both victory and defeat. This way he will learn to tolerate frustration. Praise him when he wins and help him deal with the pain when he doesn’t win. You can tell him little inspiring stories of people who never got discouraged like Einstein or if your child is younger you can make up stories using animals as characters. You can humor him or use some philosophy. However the best way for your child to learn perseverance is to show him that you never give up.
Children learn from you, how to deal with disappointment be it in your every day life, work or even being stuck in a traffic jam. It is not only the things you say or do in difficult situations but children can sense what you are feeling. Whether you are feeling depressed or determined, they will pick up the signal you are sending out. They will learn to react to their own problems by watching you. So if you want your child to possess qualities like determination, courage, confidence, perseverance, patience and the rest of the list, then develop these qualities in yourself first.

Another important thing to remember is that you should not try to live your dream through your child (it is alright to do so only if she is showing interest in the area you want her to pursue). Her inner urge to excel at what she loves could diminish if your expectations don’t coincide with her own interest and abilities.
In order for you to identify your child’s talent you have to spend time with him and watch him play. Notice what kinds of questions he asks. Tune in to his individual interests. Keep track of activities which come to him easily and make him happy. Remember these will change as he evolves. So watch, observe and stay tuned in as your children grow.

It is good practice to expose your child to a wide range of interests. Allow her to take part in different activities. A preschooler may not know yet, what she likes. Talents may not make themselves visible during the early years of a child’s life. So it is important that you let her explore different things, she will be naturally drawn to activities she prefer. Take her to museums, sports or cultural events. At home involve her in household chores or toss a ball around with her. However as she grows older avoid putting her in too many extracurricular activities and let her concentrate on those areas where she has shown true excellence and advanced ability. One of the most important goals of teachers and parents should be to find areas in which a child might experience mastery.

Timing is important too. Research shows that toddlers who learn simple concepts like one and many do better in math. If your child is interested in music then the best time for him to learn a musical instrument or other concepts related to music is between the ages of 3 to 10. Having said that, talent can be discovered and developed at any age provided that the child has a keen desire and love for what he wants to achieve and a “stick to it” mentality. When we teach our children how to develop their talents we also teach them the lesson of really working at what they believe in, they develop will power and learn that every thing is possible. They learn that in order to turn their aptitude into mastery they should keep at it.
If your child shows interest in a particular area, don’t just sit there and look at his gift as if it is magic, do something about it. If he is interested in music, save up for music lessons. If he is interested in art, buy him some art supplies.

Encourage him to develop his talent and to really work at it. And he will gladly do it because it is gratifying, it is what he enjoys. People who are leading mediocre lives are doing so not because they don’t have any talent but it is because they don’t recognize it or are too lazy to develop it or they gave it up when the going got a bit tougher. It is really important that our children learn to never give up on what they believe in. They must know that with practice comes perfection.

It goes without saying that you should provide good education for your children but make sure that formal learning settings doesn’t take away the spark of individuality and uniqueness from your child. Be supportive of her interests and hobbies and make sure to provide her with the tools to pursue them.
When you work with your child to develop his talent, you are at the same time building his character as he acquires the necessary qualities for success whilst working on his talent. One important point to remember is that you should make sure that your child feels that he is connected to others. He must know that he is being valued for who he actually is and not just for his accomplishments. Don’t let him grow in to an “accomplishment junky”, who is always striving for the next best thing and is never satisfied and grateful for what he has.

Talent development also helps in the development of spiritual character in the sense that we learn the lesson to “use” whatever gifts God has given us. Our physical skills are directly related to our ultimate spiritual development. Assist your children to identify and develop their talents. HOW TO BE A SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEUR

Are you equipped to be a successful entrepreneur? Well, here are some tips that you must follow to ensure your success as an entrepreneur:

1. Start with a vision. When I was a child, I envisioned myself as being a business owner. At that point I did not know what kind of company I would build. Therefore, I decided to prepare myself by getting my degree in Accounting, taking a number of self-improvement courses, joining professional organizations and everything I could think of turn my dreams into reality.

2. Name your niche. Here are a few questions that I asked myself to help determine the business I would own:

* What businss am I interested in starting?

* What services or products will I sell?

* Is my plan practical and will it fill a need?

* Who is my competition?

* Can I deliver a enhanced quality service?

* Can I create a demand for my business?

* Who will be the mark audience?

After answering these questions, you will know the type business that is best for you. When I started my business, I skipped these steps and went straight to opening a business that wasn't right for me. Now I know....I'll never make that mistake again.

3. Develop a company plan. It is very important to have a company plan so that you will know what you want out of your business as well as where you are going. To help you write a business plan, here is a site that I found: www.bplans.com. It has over 500 free samples to choose from along with the category that you can match with your business.

4. Determine the legal structure of your company. Your business name, how your taxes are filed, and your company liability is impacted by the legal structure you choose for your company. For more information on taxes, please visit U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) guide to business taxes.

5. Name yo ur company. Register your business name with your state government.

6. Obtain licenses and permits. Get a list of federal, state, and local licenses and permits required for your company.

7. Promote your business. A marketing plan for your company is most important. It will create various avenues for selling strategies and provide a road map to success.

It is very important to use these tips to start your company. Take your time, do all of your research and follow your dreams to become a successful business owner.

Talents! a Remarkable Untapped Phenomenon

What are talents anyway? A talent is the capacity to perform certain activities or process certain information in a way that is very easy, natural and most often times enjoyable to the person. A talented person is capable of doing something easier, faster, with less effort, and more naturally than most other people. Talents can be physical, mental or emotional or any combination of all three.

We are all born with God given talents. But these talents are different types, different degrees and different forms for different people No two people have the exact same talents at the same degrees. I believe this is true even with twins.

Once a person is born with talents, I believe that they will not be able to gain additional talents or alter the ones they have. I do not believe people can learn new talents in school, or acquire them from others.

People can however learn new skills to enhance their God given talents. Skill training is what basketball players with exceptional basketball talents learn and hone to become the excellent basketball players that their talents give them the capacity to become. This also holds true for artists, doctors, leaders, mathematicians, and the list goes on. People must learn the information and develop their specialized skills to take advantage of their talents. People with exceptional talents that do not study their fields and develop their skills are people with Potential, but no results.

People must discover their many different talents

However, when God gave us our talents at birth he did not give us another important ingredient. He did not give us a LIST of our different and unique talents. They are and remain a mystery to each of us. Every person must discover and learn their own unique God given talents. But how do people discover and define all of their talents? There are no formal methods, processes, or schools that are focused and capable of assisting people to discover their true talents. There are lots of different assessment tests and such that purport to reveal talents, but in truth they are very inaccurate, very general, and unfortunately very misleading. They frequently cause more harm than good.

Baseball teams compete to discover baseball talents

Baseball teams hire "Talent Scouts" to roam high schools and even younger leagues to observe and discover kids with the natural talents for baseball. These talent scouts have special observation skills and talents, a special motivation to seek the truth and clarity, and an ability to communicate the special talents they observe in others. They sign these youngsters to contracts and the teams have them play in developmental leagues to improve their baseball skills, baseball knowledge and baseball confidence through training and practice. Frequently, these players develop so well that they become the effective and productive baseball players they and the teams want them to become to create winning baseball teams. This system has been working very well for decades. Many youngsters have been brought into the baseball world to become very successful and happy players because a "scout" discovered them. Most players would probably not have pursued a baseball career without being discovered by a "scout."

It is not easy for people to discover their own talents.

People are on the inside looking out. It is much easier for people to recognize and describe the talents of other people than themselves. But to truly discover the talents in others, a person must want to look for the talents in others, must have the awareness to recognize talents when they appear, must have the freedom of restraints to acknowledge different talents and degrees, must have the honesty to reveal the true talents, and the connection with the person to communicate openly without barriers what these talents are.

Engage your personal coach to discover your special talents

A talent discovery person must become a clear mirror to the other person. This is exactly what a personal coach does and the reason personal coaches work with their clients. The fastest, most accurate, most complete, and least costly way for people to uncover their many and varied talents is to engage their own personal coach. Personal coaches are trained, skilled and have the talents (I call this special talent "the gift of coaching") to easily seek and discover the many talents of their clients and reveal them in a confidential and guilt free environment. Personal coaches are "Talent Scouts" who are not limited to any specific talent.

The greatest wasted resources on earth

Think about how many people go through their entire lives without discovering their talents and without putting them to great use for themselves and others. Also think about how many people are misled abut their true talents, and are even penalized because of their talents. The vast resources that exist in all of us are wasted unless people are able to not only discover and understand their own unique talents, but are able to develop the skills and knowledge to maximize their true potentials. It all starts with the discovery and understanding of our unique talents.

Examples of unique talents almost being wasted

Michael Jordan was cut from as a sophomore from his high school basketball team. Albert Einstein was required to repeat the fifth grade. Luckily for everyone, others recognized their talents and reflected them back to Michael and Albert so both could develop their remarkable talents to achieve unbelievable accomplishments later in life.

You have been bestowed with a specialty that makes others stand back and take notice even if you have not made the discovery of what your gift is yet. Take the time to look at what you do well and you will soon discover that unique gift or gifts that you possess that no one can do quite like you.

CREATE YOUR OWN OPPORTUNITY USING YOUR TALENT AND SUCCEED

Stop complaining that the reason why you have not succeeded is because your chances of making it in life are slim, because there are no opportunities available for you to maximize your God’s given potentials. Your talent is that unused potentials that you need to give serious thoughts to its employment in achieving the purpose of God for your life.

Stop using your own mouth to destroy yourself. The more you complained about your lack of opportunities the more you will discover that opportunities are slipping by you everyday. Even when opportunities do come across your path you may not quickly recognized it as the one you have waiting for.
The Bible says,
“A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.”
(Prov 18:7)

You see there are so many opportunities everywhere but don’t use your mouth to destroy them instead use your own mouth to create your own opportunities.
There are so many problems in the world today that needs a solution. These problems always come with their own opportunities. They are beckoning for solution from somebody like you who have discover and develop his or her own talent to be able to meet that needs. All that you need to do is to find that problem and become a solution to them. In this way, your talent will always find expression.
In 1 Sam 17, David discovered an opportunity for his already developed talent to find expression for use, success and fame. The opportunity came in the form of a problem that threatens the entire nation of Israel. Sometimes the opportunity for your breakthrough in life comes in the form of crises. You only need to see beyond the crises.

When Jesse sent David his son to the battlefront to take food to his brothers who are in the army of Israel, he observed a gory sight that infuriated him. Goliath of Gath was boasting against the army of Israel. He needed a man to fight with him in the army of Israel. If that man conquers him then they (the Philistine) will become slaves to the Israelite and if he conquers the Israelite, the Israelites will become slaves to the Philistine.

The battle line was then drawn and every soldier in the army of Israel including the king of Israel was afraid of this giant of Philistine. He was an intimidator. David was not too comfortable with the boasting of this “Uncirmcised Philistine” against the army of Israel. So, he began to ask the other soldier question about what will be the rewards for anyone who will dare this Philistine and take away the reproach from Israel: “And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” (1 Sam 17:26)

Beloved, do you know what David was doing here? He was placing a value on his ability. He wanted to know the value the nation of Israel put on the talent and the skill of a man who will risk his life to fight the enemies of Israel. The bible said, “And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Israel.” (1 Sam 17:25) David heard this repeated to him the second time to be so sure of what he wanted to do.
King Saul heard what David said and sends him to come to know his qualifications for this daring step that David wanted to take for his nation Israel even though he tried to discourage him because he was a youth.

“And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him. Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God. David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.”
(1 Sam 17:34-37)

What did King Saul saw in David, a youth? He saw courage, faith and boldness, which was lacking in the entire army of Israel that he took to battle with him. He saw a fearless young man that believed in his God given ability.

Above all, he saw a young man that knows his God. Do you believed in your God given ability? Do you also know the God that you are serving? So many people have no confidence in themselves talk less of believing in the talent that they possess.
You must believe in God and the ability that he has place inside of you but that ability is doing you no good just staying inside of you. You have to apply it and release it to bless your generation.
The bible says, “The people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.” (Dan 11:32) You see, God want us to do exploit with the talent that he has given to us.

What experiences and skills have you acquired in the process of developing your talents and abilities into strength that is unique to you alone? All these will come into play when a demand is made on your talents and when opportunities comes for you to use your talent.

David had experience that he acquired while tending the sheep of his father Jesse in the wilderness and this experience was unique to him alone. He had also developed skill in the art of using catapult to hit his target.
Beyond this, David had developed a strong relationship with his God. These are his qualifications not the number of years that he has spent in the army of Israel.
In fact going by his age at this time, he was not qualified to be in the army. What his age could not achieve his talent did. David had dreams of riches, this is that opportunity that he had been waiting for to achieve his dream, and he was even willing to risk his life to achieve that dream.

This was the reason he was asking what the reward would be for the man that will kill Goliath of Gath and take away the reproaches from Israel. I have told you before there is a reward for the man and woman who will make demand on the talent that God has given them and use it to bless mankind. Men will pay you what you think that you are worth when you begin to use and release the treasures that God had deposited in your life to bless your generation.
Notice that this opportunity did not come to him. David was the one creating his own opportunity now for himself. He was also using his mouth correctly, asking the right question at the right time.

Having seen all this in this young man King Saul remove his Kingly armor and put it on David. The bible says that “And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail. And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him. And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine. And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him. And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance. And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field. Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hands. And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David. Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.” (1 Sam 17:38-51)

When David put on the armor of Saul the King he discovered that it was too heavy for him so he removed it. He did so because he said he had not proved it. Do you know what that meant? Don’t use the armor that you have not proven. Something is only peculiar to you alone.
It also means that David had proven his ability to use that catapult very well that he knew that he cannot make mistake in hitting his target so he used what he has proven very well to kill the giant of the Philistine.
The bible says that David prevailed against the Philistine with a sling and a stone. May I say to you at this junction, that God want to use your talent to bless your generation. When you surrender that talent to God, it even becomes a more potent weapon against the power of your enemies whose is plans to stop your destiny in life. David’s employment of his talent in the service of his God and his nation made him rich and famous in his time and he also became an in-law to the king of Israel at the time and his father house was exempted from paying tax in the land of Israel. He became a solution the problem of his nation at the time. He helped his nation to win battle victory over their enemies using his faith and his God given ability. Indeed the gift of a man will always make way for him and brings him before great men.

When you begin to employ your talent in the service of humanity great men and women would locate you for blessings and rewards. You will become an answer to somebody problems. Somebody will also pay you for the investment of your talent in helping them to achieve their dreams and the goals they have set for themselves.
You are God’s answers to somebody’s problem. For every problem, you see in this world there is somebody that God has given talent to so that he can be the one to solve that problem. You are the man and the woman that God has endowed with the abilities to bring solutions to the problems of the world.
Ask yourself what problems have I been gifted by God to solve? Who needs what God has endowed me with? How can I apply my talent in such a way to meet that need and solve that problem?

Our Lord Jesus Christ is a perfect example of what I am talking about here. He knew why God sent him to this world and he set his face to achieve that thing. He came to solve the sin problem of man and bring man back into a relationship with his Creator. He became a solution to the sin problem of humanity worldwide. His crucifixion on the cross was to achieve that singular aim. He died for a course he believed in so strongly. He was buried yet he rose again from the grave still fulfilling that aim.

Today, men and women are being saved everywhere through the blood he shed for us on the cross of Calvary. He is the most powerful force to reckon with in the universe today. The Word of God says, “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Phil 2:9-11)

If you do not know Him your life has no meaning because he came to this world given meanings to people lives. His was a talent well develop to achieve the purpose of God for humanity. When he left for heaven the Bible says that he “he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.” (Eph 4:8)
He gave gifts to you and I so that we can fulfill the purpose for which we were born into this world.

The day I met Jesus and surrender myself to his service my life has never been the same. He came into my life and makes a definite change. My talent came alive and my potentials are discovered in Him. “But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ” (Eph 4:7)
I am using this opportunity to invite you to also surrender your life to him today. He can make a wonderful meaning out of your meaningless life. Pray this prayer with me and mean it: “Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you in the Name of Jesus. Your word says, “...him the cometh to me I will in no way cast out” (John 6:37), So I know you won’t cast me out, but You take me in, And I thank you for it. You said in your Word, “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Rom 10:13). I am calling upon your name, so I know you have saved me now. Come in to me heart right now and make me your child for evermore. I confess all my sins before you now and promise never to go back to them anymore. Thank you for saving me Jesus. I will serve you the rest of my life, amen.”

Believe it and then Jesus will come into your life. You will become a new creature and your life will never be the same again. From today everything will turn new for you because the greater one has come to live inside your mortal being. This is the amazing miracle of salvation.

You can now find a bible believing church near you and attend. The more of yourself you surrender to God the more of your talents that will manifest to increase your value. Always read your Bible because this is the word of God.

LEARN TO USE YOUR TALENT

I read the story of a roadside beggar who found an old coat by the roadside. This man was in need of money to live a normal life like every other person. He put on this coat for a long time while begging money to feed himself everyday. One day the police discover the dead body of this man where he slept over the night before. When they remove the coat, he was putting on they found thousands of dollars stack in the lining of the coat this man was wearing. Medical examination on this man shows that he died of hunger. What a world!

This man died of hunger while there was enough money stacked in the coat he was putting on. He died only because he did not know that what he was looking for was right inside his coat. If he had known he would have torn up the coat, take the money and use it to meet his personal need.

So many people are like this man dying of ignorance daily. They did not realize that what they are going to “Sokoto” to look for is right inside their “Sokoto”. “Sokoto” is a state in the northern part of Nigeria while the other “Sokoto” in Yoruba language means trousers. What they are traveling to find in Sokoto is inside their trousers. They just had to reach their hands in that trouser and take what they want out of it. I have told you at the beginning of the previous chapter that what you need to succeed in life is right inside of you.

There are enough treasures inside of you. God had deposited them there for your own good, and the good of other people around you. You only need to discover what your own peculiar treasures are from within and develop it. Once you have discover that thing and develop it into strengths your next move will now be to use that thing to achieve your life’s goals. Let me ask you of what use is a gift that is not utilize? There are so many people today whose talents are hanging on the shelves because they did not put them to use. They are waiting for opportunity to come across their path. Unfortunately or fortunately for them, opportunity is crossing their path everyday they just did not see it. They are complaining of what they lack in terms of job and money while they refuse to make use of the talents that the Creator has blessed them with.

That talent that God gave you is not for decoration. Its worth is more than the price of gold or diamond. That talent is what will define you and determine the value people place on your life. It is meant to bless your generation. Somebody somewhere needs what you have gotten. This is not the time for you to go and sleep hoping that a miracle will happen overnight. Make a demand on the talent that God has blessed you with. Find a means and a place to express that talent so that it becomes profitable for you.

Your talent will become meaningful to many people only when put to use. When you use your talent people who needs what your life contained will locate you. They will create for you that opportunity you have spent so many years of your life searching for.

When you begin to use your talent the people that needs what you have will not mind investing in your life their money and even their time. They lack something that your life contained and you have something they wanted. They have seen you perform in the area of your giftedness and wants what you have gotten. If you name your price, they will not mind paying you what you think you are worth.

How was David located when King Saul needed a musician that will always play for him whenever his problems started? Some people have seen David. They knew his capability. They knew that David was talented in playing the harp and they have seen him used that talent to bless many people. Who is your talent blessing and how many are they? When the king needed a recommendation, it was not difficult for them to recommend David. “. . .Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.”(1 Sam 16:18)

The moment the king heard this he sent for David immediately.
“And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favor in my sight.”(1 Sam 16:22)

The Bible says that a man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before great men. David’s talent is what is making way for him here. That talent brought him before king.

Eventually, David became the king’s armor bearer and he found favor in the sight of the king. You too can find the favor of kings when you begin to apply your talent. Your gift of talent will also make a way for you when you begin to use what God has given to you.

Your worth in cash will be determined by how much of your inner treasures are giving out to bless your generation. What do you think that you are what, a million or billion dollars? Name the price and you will be amazed that somebody is willing to pay that price to you. What is the worth of God’s investment in your life? Can you quantify it in commercial value? It is much than you can think or envisage. You only need to dig out what is within and draw on it to bless your generation.

I have read history of some great men and women and found out they only tapped into what God had deposited in them to become what they are in life. Some of them have great education, some of them did not but the most important thing is that they all succeeded in becoming who they wanted to become in life.

What do you want to become in this life? Whatever you want to become, understand that you have been given talent to match up with the goals that you have set for yourself in this life. Do not ever forget that. You can also become successful in life making use of the talent that God has given to you.

THE BLESSING IN YOUR DISABILITY

I once read the story about Cass Daley. She was the daughter of a street–car conductor. She wanted to be a singer but she had something that she considers her weakness. She had this large mouth and an obtruding buck tooth, which she tries to hide anytime she wants to sing. The first time she tries to sing was in New Jersey nightclub. While singing, “She tried to pull down her upper lip to cover her teeth” acting as if all was well with her, but it was just acting. She was not being herself. A man who heard her sing in this club saw an emerging talent with weakness in her then he decided to confront her after the show. The man told her to stop hiding the buckteeth, that she should open her mouth wide and sing. The man also told her that that very tooth she was trying to hide could make her fortunes.

Even though Cass Daley was embarrassed, she took this advice seriously and acted on them. She forgot about her buckteeth and concentrate on her audience. She opened that mouth wide and sang with such enthusiasm that she became a top star in the movies industries and radio. Today other comedians are trying to emulate her example. You too can become a star. That thing you consider your weakness or disability if positively viewed can make you fortunes. This is because in every disability there are abilities. Your disabilities are those things that dissuade and disable you from actualizing the potentials of your natural and mental abilities. This great man of God prayed thrice that God should remove his disability, which he referred to here as “thorns in the flesh”, but God did not answer him. All that God said to him is that “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness”.

I think grace from God is what will all need to surmount our disabilities. The grace of God can see us through any circumstances in life. So, instead of worrying about your disability lean on the grace of God. His grace is more powerful than your weaknesses. Entrust Him with the use of your talents and your life. Let Him guide you. Let him help you. Lean on his mighty wings. He can never let you down. Even when things seem rough, he will make you stronger than you think you are. This is the reason Apostle Paul was able to say “for when I am weak, then am I strong”. From now on, do not allow your disabilities stop you from fulfilling your destiny using your talent.

Moses in the bible began his ministry at the age of eighty. He was no more a young man when he started and he did very well. Whatever you want to start to begin to actualize the fulfillment of your dreams you can start today. Age can never be a barrier to a mind that stays young. They say age is in the mind. I read about Fennyson. He composed his best piece of work at the age of 80? At the age of 81, Plato was still writing and John Wesley was still preaching the gospel at the age of 82. How old are you that you are complaining that you are too old to succeed? I know that you can still make it. You can begin now to set new goals for yourself and create new plans that will ensure your success in life.

The other day I listen to a program on the television, a seventy four year old man was graduating from the university as a doctor with his grandchildren. What does this suggest to you? That man is a disciplined man. He has a goal that he has set for himself and he was determined that age will not stop him from achieving his goals.

Do not allow your present age to stop you from achieving your goals in this life. In spite of your age, your greatest dreams can be achieved. You are not too old or too young to attempt great things in life, even new things. You have what it takes to succeed in this life. You cannot fail.

You have been giving the gift of talents and abilities by God. These talents are your hidden treasures. God deposited them in you for your own good and the good of the world. The world is only waiting for the discovery of your talents. When you develop your dominant talent into strengths and release them the world will discover you and pay you for what you are worth. When you are discovered you will be able to recover all that you have lost in the years of your ignorance of this truth that you are learning now.

You see that talent in you? It is valuable to the commercial world. That is why I run straight for the finish line; that is why I am like a boxer who does not waste his punches. I harden my body with blows and bring it under complete control, to keep myself from being disqualified after having called others to the contest.”

Can you imagine what this man of God does to keep fit? It is called discipline. He compared himself to an athlete in training for a prize. We all know those who run and win in the Olympic did not win their prize on that Olympic day. They had spent enough time to train themselves for the game that eventually gave them that gold they collected that day. This is the same way we must discipline ourselves in order for us to develop our talent. The talent that you did not develop has no value and cannot add value to your life. The talent that you develop will add value to your life.

It has the capability to receive, retain, analyze, and release information fed into it. The mind of man is a world of its own. Your mind is one of the most beautiful gifts that God has given to you as his child. What you conceive in your mind and believe in your heart you are able to produce in physical realities.

Your mind is where most of your daily dreams and ideas are conceived. Your happiness, peace of mind, joy, successes, fears, failures, disappointment, etc. are all conceived in the mind.

What you think daily and stored in your mind is important because that is what you will always bring forth at any point in time. In fact, it is what you will become.

A man is a product of his thought. Thoughts are images that you formed in your mind about something or someone. If that image is positive and good, you will produce it in your life. If they are bad, you will bring it forth into physical reality of your life.

Always endeavor to think good, positive thought about your life irrespective of any circumstances you may find yourself in daily. You are what you think you are. “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…”

The story is told of a father who was about to die and he called his sons together to tell them about his stump undeveloped farmland that he had not been able to explore because of his ill health. This farmland is a treasure land full of gold that have not yet been explored for discovery. The sons of this man have always thought that their father had some gold hidden somewhere in the house.

However, when the father was about to die he told his son “The stump is lot”, he told them this repeatedly. When the final burial was over the children began to search for gold on that land. They started digging but they found no gold and they become discouraged. One of them suggested that they should plant corn on that farmland. In the autumn, they found in the ripened corn the gold at the root of the corn.

Listen to me; you have a treasure land in you. Explore that land. There is goldmine therein waiting for your discovery. There is an abundant of potential treasures and God’s given resources in your life. Dig dip. You will find solution to your lingering problems right inside your mind.

Your mind is the mind of Christ. “For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him. But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Cor 2:16) Christ mind is full of wisdom, knowledge and power to create things and make them happens. The bible says that you have this mind in you, which is the mind of Christ. Your God is a creator. You are made to be like him. This is the reason you were created in his image after his likeness.

Today is the age of information. People everywhere are talking about information technology. The other day I went to a cyber cafe with a friend of mine to do overnight browsing. We were trying to source for materials for one project we are pursuing. When I got tired, my friend took over and I sat beside him.

Suddenly, I notice a young man sitting beside me. He was also browsing, so I took interest in what he was doing. I noticed that all that this person was just doing was to chat with a woman he was feeding with so many lies about himself, and that is all that he did throughout the night. Wasted time and money doing nothing that can improve his life.

Young people hear me today there are so many information on the Internet that can help you positively and there are those information that can destroy you. If I were you, I will go for the kind of information that can help improve my life and not the destructive type

e. A man of God used to say, “If you are not informed you will be deformed”. Therefore, be informed. Educate your mind to think positively. If you do you are on your way to achieving success in life. My Bishop, Dr. Mike Okonkwo used to say whenever he preached along this line “Feed you faith and starved your doubt.”

Yes, feed your faith with the positive word of God stored in your mind daily. This is because your mind has the capacity to analyze and reproduce the information you fed into it. The key to your success or failure in life begins here. The Bible says that you should guide your heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life. One thing that I also want you to know is that your thought is a product of the mind, and you are a product of your thoughts. What you think about says so much about the kind of person you are.

Therefore, what you daily think about is important to your success in life. It was admiral Earnest J. King who directed the United State Navy during the war that said “Whether in war or peace, the chief differences between good thinking and bad thinking is this: good thinking deals with causes and effects and lead to logical constructive planning; bad thinking frequently leads to tensions and nervous breakdowns”.

If you want to succeed in life and avoid nervous breakdown that has sent many people to their early grave, then you must feed your mind with thought of success. You must become success conscious in all that you are doing. You must withdraw your mind from your old conventional thinking pattern that has not in any way helped you thus far. You must get rid of idle thoughts, negative thoughts, and thoughts of sickness, fear, and doubt. You must also deliver yourself from the bondage of unwholesome, immoral and amoral thinking pattern that only produces failures instead of success. You must constantly renew your mind with the word of God.

THE RESOURCES TO ACCOMPLISH YOUR DESTINY IS IN YOU

A man by the name Thomas Edison was sent home from school by his teacher for the simple reason that he cannot cope with education. His teacher said he had an “addled” mind. I learned that his mother taught him how to read and write. This was because the authority has spoken that Edison does not have what it takes to complete a primary education. This could have had a great negative effect on a young child of his age.

However, he was not deterred and discouraged by what the teacher have told him. He knew inside of him there was a treasure waiting to be mined. So he exploited the treasure within to achieve what the experts of his days said in 1878 newspapers and magazines cannot be achieved. What did the experts said? They said, “Electric lights are unworthy of serious attention”, but Thomas Edison proved the experts wrong and gave the world the first practical electric light. He dare to do the “impossible”. This is what makes me know that even experts can be wrong sometimes.

In 1901, some experts also said “No possible combination can be united into a practical machine by which men can fly” but the Wright Brothers proved them wrong. Mining the treasure within they invented the first practical machine that can fly in the air. They gave the world the first practical airplane.

The Wright Brothers believed that they have what it takes to accomplish their destiny and dare the voice of the experts. They have discovered that achievement does not come in “I can’t”. Achievement only comes in “I can”. Impossibility is no more in their dictionary. They have believed the words of Jesus that says “all things are possible to him that believed.”

You see, what I am trying to get across to you here is that you have what it takes to accomplish your destiny in life. The resources to accomplish your purpose on this earth have all been deposited in you by God. You only need to look inside of you to find it.

The Bible says:

“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us”
(2 Cor 4:7)

The treasure you are looking for is in an earthen vessel. You are that vessel. You do not need to look too far to get what you want. That money, that business, that job you are looking for is not far away from you. It all depends upon what and where you are looking at.

The Bible also says:

“A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.”
(Matt 12:35)

What you have in your heart is what you will bring forth. If you have success in your heart, that is what you will bring forth but if what you have in your heart are failure, frustration, sickness, disease, and disappointment, that is the very thing you will bring forth. Failure or success begins right in the mind of a man. So, keep good treasures in your heart daily so that you can fulfill your destiny.

Proverbs 15:6 says that:

“In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.

Beloved, these treasures are only waiting for you to find them. Why don’t you begin your search today? Why wait until tomorrow? People who wait for tomorrow always wake up too late. Discover the treasure in your earthen suite.

Hear what King Solomon says:

“I applied mine heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason of things…”
(Eccl 7:25)

In Proverbs 25:2 it says:

“It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.”

You are a king on this earth, God’s precious gift to the world. It is written’ “Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” (Rev 1:5b-6) It is your duty to search out a matter. Look for the answer to that problem confronting you on the inside of you and not on the outside of you. There is always a solution to every problems of your life. Take your time and make some search you will discover this is true. When “experts” says it cannot be done what do you believe and what do you say.

So many people have jeopardized their destiny because somebody told them they cannot do it and they resigned to fate. They sacrifice their destiny on the altar of what somebody have said simply because they are professionals. These are the days to start attempting the “impossible” because you have the capacity to accomplish great things in this life if you believe.

Listen to me, If Thomas Edison and the Wright Brother have resigned to fate the world will still be in darkness today and there would be no airplanes transportation to move from one country to another.

If Madame Schumann-Heink has listened to her music teacher that she cannot sing and that her voice is bad when she was young, she would not have become one of the great opera stars of all time. She would have resigned herself to becoming what her music teacher recommended for her – a tailor, and not accomplish her purpose on earth. That is the reason I told you that if you will mine the treasure within you, you could accomplish your destiny and fulfill your purpose on this earth.

See what Jesus compared the Kingdom of Heaven with in the Bible:

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.” (Matt 13:44)

Why would the man buy this field? Why would he have to sell all that he had? It is because of the treasure he found on it. He was willing to pay any price to obtain this treasure land. Beloved, your treasure land is not far from you. That Talent that God has given you must not be neglected. God gave it to you as a gift and a blessing to the world.

YOU ARE BORN FOR A PURPOSE HERE

Now that you have obtained mercy, you must understand that there is an assignment for you to carry out here on earth. God has a purpose for your life to carry out here. You must find out what that purpose is and begin to carry them out. The Lord himself will help you if you trust in Him.

Stop chasing other people’s shadow. Discover your own purpose and identity in Christ Jesus. Deliver yourself from a negative self-image, which you have crowded into your life from childhood. Your destiny is great. You future is bright.

Do not be like the brothers of Joseph who abandoned their own dreams in order to destroy their brother’s dreams. They left the pursuance of their own destiny just because they wanted to terminate the destiny of their brother, Joseph.

All they were thinking about is the abolition of their brother’s destiny and dreams. They wanted to see what would become of his dream while their own destiny lays hanging and they do nothing about it. Instead of going to get their own dreams from God, they are busy scheming to destroy their brother’s destiny.

Beloved, you will always encounter such people on your pathway to fulfilling destiny. Do not be deterred by whatever they are doing to you because they cannot stop your dreams from coming to pass. Just behave like Joseph. He was calm and well focused. He kept the picture of God’s dream to him in his heart daily believing that someday it will become a reality. He knew he would someday be the savior of the family even though he was the youngest but his brother knew nothing about this. Indeed, Joseph was God’s gift to his generation.

What is the thing that makes Joseph dynamic and unique? He only used the ability that God has giving him from childhood (ability to dream and interpret dreams). What ability has God given you that you can use to make your life and the lives of others better? Find it. The word of the Lord tried Joseph and his dream came to fruition. I pray that your dream will not die. It would be fulfilled in their time by the grace of God that is upon your life in Jesus name, amen.

YOU ARE GOD’S GIFT TO THIS WORLD

When God finished the work of creation he discovered that everything that he had made would be a waste if they were not entrusted to someone to manage. He looked at all that he had created there was none to entrust the earth to, and then he decided to make man.

He made man in His own image, after his own likeness and he breathed his spirit into the lifeless body of man and he became a living soul.

God did not stop at that he put man in charge of everything that he had created. He made man the crowning glory of all his creation and gave him power to rule the earth. This makes man the manager of God’s resources on earth.

God also knew that the earth will be uncoordinated if there was no man to take charge. That is the reason why the Bible says that He is mindful of you and has made you to have dominion over the works of his hand.
You see, man became the crowning glory of all his creation. The implication of this is that the earth would be a waste if there were no man to man it. Creation will be meaningless without someone in charge and you are that man, you are that woman. Imagine, even, the animals will have to answer the names given to them by man. They have no options. Man is a gift to this world.

When the Bible talks about man you were the ones being referred to. The world will not be complete without you. With you in charge as God ordained it, the world will be a better place to live in.

The Bible says,
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning”
(James 1:17)

What this portends for us today is that as a man you are God’s present to this world. From the time that you are a child, God gave you to this world as a gift. He also gave you to your parents as a blessing.

The Bible says:

“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.”
(Ps 127:3-5)

God made you to rule here on earth. “The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.” (Ps 110:2) He did not make you a failure irrespective of your socio-ethnic and cultural background, color or race. He made you a success from the beginning. He has deposited in you every potential you need to be successful in this life.

There is a seed of greatness in you. You are not just anybody. You are not an accident of procreation. You are somebody very important because you are dear to the heart of God.

So important are you to God that He gave his only begotten Son to die in your place. When Jesus came, he restores the life that you and I lost in Adam. He made a champion out of our lives.

You see the reason my brother and sister why you cannot fail? There is something unique and peculiar about your life. This makes you different from every other person on earth.

“Ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.”
(1 Peter 2:9-10)
