Discovery Through a Scientific LensBarrett&#39;s Project Discovery &amp; Project Interaction teachers, &amp; ELL, Reading, &amp; Classroom Teachers were awarded a $10,000 Toyota TAPESTRY Science grant. The 2006-07 grant supported student participation in lessons that incorporate the Jason Project, NASA Explorer School experiences, Virginia Science and culminated with the creation of video podcasts by fourth graders. Barrett is the only<br />school in Virginia to receive the award for 2006. The grant<br />will be used to implement their project, “Carpe Camera<br />- Seize the Media through a Scientific Lens: Video<br />Podcasting Student Inquiries to the Worldwide<br />Community".<br /><br />As part of Barrett’s project, fourth grade teachers at<br />Barrett will engage students in exciting inquiry-based<br />hands-on/minds-on lessons that incorporate the Jason<br />Expedition, NASA Explorer School experiences and the<br />Virginia Science Standards of Learning, including the<br />explicit teaching of reading and thinking strategies.<br />Students will participate in interactive video<br />conferences with the NASA Langley Research Center.<br />Each unit will culminate with the creation of a video<br />podcast that will be available for free viewing from<br />the iTunes website.<div class="blogger-post-footer">http://feeds.feedburner.com/DiscoveryThroughAScientificLens</div>0LaurieJSullivan@gmail.com (Laurie Sullivan)
