Allen Leads Team D Sweep to Become 2012 US Women's Champion

Huntsville, AL - It took not one but two 1000+ rated rounds for Catrina Allen to cement herself into history as the 2012 United States Women's Disc Golf Champion. The title came after a battle in the final holes with a surging Paige Pierce, who managed to take the lead during the final nine until Allen came back to force a tie at the end of regulation. The pair went into a playoff when Allen, who finished 5th at this event in 2011, popped off a deuce to seal the victory. Final results: 1st - Catrina Allen. 2nd - Paige Pierce. 3rd - Sarah Hokom. 4th - Elaine King.

Allen, Leiviska Sweep At Final National Tour Event of 2012

The PDGA National Tour was trimmed to six events this season, and the final stop was in Leicester MA, where Team Discraft closed out the primary season with a sweep by Cale Leiviska and Catrina Allen. The 1040-rated Leiviska, who finished 5th last month at Worlds, never shot a rating lower than 1042 through four rounds to become the 1st player to win this event twice after taking the trophy in 2007. For 2011 Pro Rookie of the Year Allen, it was the final confirmation of a solid pro season after wins at GBO, Beaver State and a 3rd place finish at Worlds.

Leiviska, Allen Sweep Oregon NT

Cale Leiviska of MN has earned a reputation as a long haul threat, with multiple top five Worlds finishes. Yet the 1038-rated pro had never won a PDGA National Tour event until this past weekend at the Beaver State Fling in OR. Up against a deep and talented field, Leiviska was forced to step up with back to back 1070+ rated final rounds to avoid a playoff and win by one throw. Catrina Allen of Phoenix hit the pro circuit hard last season, earning a nod as the PDGA Female Pro Rookie of the Year. She also earned her first NT trophy in OR, out-shooting reigning World Champ Paige Pierce with an impressive 1003-rated round two to coast to a three-shot win.

Catrina Allen is PDGA Pro Rookie of the Year

Congratulations to Team D's Catrina Allen of Phoenix, who has been honored as the 2011 PDGA female Pro Rookie of the Year. Allen played in a total of 38 events on the 2011 PDGA Tour and she placed in the top six of all three PDGA Majors she entered, top 4 at five NTs, and won 8 SuperTour events. The stats from Catrina's impressive rookie year were so good that she almost made it onto the finalist list for the Player of the Year award.

Ace Race Proto Approved, Renamed Zeppelin

It wasn't a new record, but Dion Arlyn came up with a big pull when it counted at the Big D in the Desert distance championships. His final round throw of 223 meters (731 ft) with a Z NUKE driver took the distance title. Big Jerm Koling popped out a monster shot of 236 meters (774 ft) earlier in the competition, which appears to be the longest official Discraft distance throw. Robbie Bratten was also on hand to blast one for 225 meters (738 ft).

Augusta, GA - The number of worldwide disc golf courses reached 2748 as of September 2008. The new figure was reported today by PDGA Course Directory editor Cliff Towne, who is currently finalizing the next edition of the print and electronic directory. 2748 represents an increase of 248 courses over 2007 (nine percent), with a total of 2354 courses in the United States and 394 international.
