(N.B. Anyone upgrading from an earlier version of the plugin is advised to uninstall the older package before installing version 2.0. You will need to re-enter your API key – this can be found by logging in to to account.discussit.com and select “properties” then “api Key.”)

Get it [ HERE ] (Joomla! 1.5 not supported)

There are some major changes in the new version, not least of which is the inclusion of local storage for comments. This allows us to include an optional comment count on category pages, and gives us the ability add new features such as import/export and on-site moderation to the package at a later date through automatic updates.

One immediately noticable change is that plugin administration is no longer done through Joomla’s plugin administration page. To get to The new setup page select “DiscussIt” from the “extensions” menu on your site admin page.

Other new features include:

Settings now controlled from Component.

Automatic closure of comments.

Tool-tips in backend.

Support for automatic updating.

Language auto-detect (works with language switchers)

Recent comments list in backend.

Upcoming features in future updates include:

On-site moderation through the “Recent Comments” form.

Import / export comments.

This is because we have added a trusted certificate to the new version and you cannot seamlessly upgrade when a certificate is changed. If you already have a version of DiscussIt Moderator installed you will have to uninstall it and then install this new version. Sorry for this inconvenience, it was unavoidable as we wanted to add a certificate to the application.

The new version concentrates on performance, memory consumption has been reduced and we have cut down on the number of transactions going on behind the scene which results in a more responsive application. To achieve this we have had to remove the mentions section, we plan to put the section back in the future making sure that the feature is not detrimental to the applications core functionality – being the moderation of comments.

It’s been quite a while since the last release of DiscussIt Moderator, and for good reason, we have made colossal improvements to the application.

You will immediately notice the cleaner intuitive GUI. The comment feed is now rendered using HTML which gives us more freedom with layout and is faster to draw. Changes are not only skin deep though, with speed enhancements the goal, we upgraded our API to use Auth 2.0 and made alterations to the data store. The GUI and backend changes combine to make moderation a speedy pleasure.

A right click context menu can now be brought up for all comments where options to reply, edit or ban IP can be seen. A filters section is now shown on your live comment feed column, you can include or exclude by url patterns (i.e. ‘!sport movies’ would exclude sport and include movies) making it easy to share moderation duties.

Don’t forget DiscussIt Moderator can be used to moderate comments from WordPress, Joomla!, Drupal, Echo & DiscussIt commenting systems.

Download DiscussIt Moderator, it’s FREE!

New features include…

* Set toast notifcation visibility/sound per site.
* Edit comments (right click on a message to see the feature).
* Filter your comment view by url to share moderation workload.
* Filter by status (only showing new speeds up your moderation duties – try it!).
* Settings screen imporved.
* OAuth 2.0.

The new DiscussIt Plugin for WordPress (v1.5) has lots of new features including:

Spam-Protection
(without annoying captchas!)

JavaScript comments

New moderation types

As well as improvements to the admin interface.

We’ve taken a novel two-pronged approach to combating WordPress comment spam. Most WordPress comment spam comes from ‘spam-bots,’ which are programs that inject comments directly into your wordpress blog or automatically fill out comment forms without any human involvement. For this reason a lot of anti-spam systems use ‘Captchas,’ which make users fill out a form to prove they’re human before they are allowed to post comments. We believe this puts users off getting involved in the discussion so, instead we’ve used hidden forms to provide protection against spam-bots and, if you choose to use our JavaScript based comment system, you’ll get even greater protection because spam-bots tend not to be able to handle JavaScript.

As well as adding robust spam-protection for your WordPress blog, the new DiscussIt plugin now supports two different moderation types:

Post-Moderation shows unapproved comments on the blog before they’ve been moderated. and Pre-Moderation hides comments until they’ve been moderated.

For more details see the DiscussIt WordPress Plugin page.

DiscussIt Moderator is our desktop comment moderation tool, providing real time push notification of new comments.

As part of this update we have re-written the mentions section of the application. The idea of the mentions section is to provide a quick and easy way of finding where your site, or tracked keywords are being mentioned elsewhere on the internet. At present we are just searching the Twitter stream, but we hope to add other sources over time. Multiple filters per site can be added so you can keep an eye on your competition as well as important keywords.

We’ve also given the GUI a little spring clean, particularly the left hand side sites menu. Here we have spaced things out a little better and added a count of the un-approved comments in each site. Which makes all the difference whilst moderating multiple sites.

Next up we are going to improve the display of comments, to better support the moderation of comments that include images, videos and links to other sites.

If you’ve not yet installed DiscussIt Moderator to manage your web sites comments, give it a go and please give us feedback on your views and suggestions for improvement.
