Camp is everywhere right now! Merit badges, smores, tents, waxed canvas + glorious heritage Americana goods. I love it all. Also, I recently met the founder of a cool ‘glamping’ site called Grass Haven that sells all of the best supplies for a posh outsdoor getaway. I’ve never done camping in such high style but I can’t wait to give it a try. Take a look at this camp kitchen!\

… to the best dad. (Mine! Not yours!) I wish I could celebrate with him, but my parents are on the other side of the country moving into a new house this weekend. Sounds fun, huh? Well, if you knew my parents and how often they move you might almost think it is what they do for fun

And also happy father’s day to my father-in-law who is awesome and actually out here visiting us this weekend. We’re planning to show him around town, go to a Justin Townes Earle concert and soak up the summer. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend with family, friends and fun.  See you next week!

Important events of the last 24 hours:

Firstly I became an aunt again! Very, very happy for my sister + brother in law who welcomed baby boy Jude into the world last night. I can’t wait to meet him next month.

But more importantly (jk!) I took a leap that I’ve been thinking about for over a decade.

I ordered a MacBook.

I know!

My laptop fell of a cliff about two months ago. Not literally (you think I take it hiking or something?) but performance-wise. It went from less-than-ideal to requiring three restarts to get even Chrome to work. I bought a Windows desktop for the office which was a pretty good deal, works well and runs programs like Quickbooks which I need for Whimseybox. However, it’s stuck on my desk at work which sucks for the evenings and weekends.

After a so-late-it’s-early night at the office yesterday partially due to the fact that I knew I wouldn’t be able to accomplish anything at home on my lousy 18 mo old Toshiba I finally snapped. It’s not even 2 years old?! That’s ridiculous, so it’s time to try something else.

I’m still ardently Android, but I have been using my iPad mini more and more the past few months. It’s like a gateway drug. Very clever, Apple.

Any advice for a Mac newbie? I’ll let you know how it goes.

Around WhimseyboxHQ it’s well established that I am obsessed with diamonds. Not like the diamonds on playing cards, but the 3d style. Every time Alyssa is designing something I suggest some sort of diamond motif. (…and this is precisely why I’m *not* the designer.)

Today I learned that diamond lightbulbs area real thing. Then I placed an order for 1,000. JK, we have lousy fluorescent lights (when we can’t rely on the skylights) but in our next office there are going to be diamond lightbulbs for sure. Maybe in the meantime we can put up this diamond print though?

I’m working on a super pink DIY for the Whimseybox office at the moment so I have the color on the brain. It’s going to be a giant Fatboy-style beanbag chair. We hung out on the ones at 1871 a lot last summer (proof here!) so I thought we should have one of our own for the office. It’s a lot of sewing, but fortunately it’s all straight lines. Cross your fingers that I finish this week!

Tonight I went a floating in a sensory deprivation tank. It’s something I’ve wanted to try for a while, and yesterday I ran across a place right here in Boulder (of course!) that does it. So I booked an appointment and tonight I went and floated for an hour at Cloud Nine Float Center. (Which, btw, I totally recommend. They were super nice and explained everything really well.)  It was super weird at first, but as promised wound up being totally relaxing. Really kind of amazing, I can’t wait to go back.
