The residents of Haddonfield, Ill., were so influenced by energy conservation ads of the 1970s, that even in the face of death they steadfastly refuse to turn on any light switches in Halloween 2 (1981).

William Hurt does some sweet peyote, take a sense-deprived snooze, and hits all the major moments from divine spark of life to magilla gorilla in the zoo and beyond, all while wearing the latest in Rick Baker transformation makeup.

Maybe there was a tone problem.

Rick Ducommun, who has the disagreeable task of playing the nosy neighbor, drives the plot by nattering in a high-pitched whine that works on the nerves like a dentist’s drill.

Tom Hanks, who’s no slouch, can’t seem figure out how to play a moment: Jimmy Stewart-style put-up everyman? Preston Sturges-type reluctant hero? Ernie Kovacs in a bathrobe?

And that single quote instead of an apostrophe in the poster isn’t helping.

I couldn’t believe that this was a real film when I first watched the trailer, but apparently it is real. And I kinda think I want to see it. It’s so ridiculous that it could actually be funny. It comes out a week before the Hunger Games movie so I foresee this film being buried by that, but it could become a cult classic… or it could suck. However it turns out, I appreciate their visual homage to those 80′s dystopian near-future gang movies

I wish this would become a real cartoon but I think it’s just a film project. Either way you have to watch. It’s an homage to 80′s cartoons like Silverhawks (but with horses!) and She-ra (because the main female lead is dressed similarly).

Fubiz Awards – Animations

B-movie mainstay Eddie Deezen makes an appearance, but if that’s not enough to pique your interest, Captain Kirk’s son Merritt Butrick plays a tough guy.

I just finished watching the entire Star Wars Uncut: Director’s Cut, which I highly recommend you watch with some friends and some beers. If you don’t know what that is, here’s the short short version: Someone dissected the entire first Star Wars movie (ep IV) into 15 seconds bits. Then asked the world (via the interweb) to reshoot their own version of any scene they wanted to. After they had all the scenes they spliced them altogether into one frankenstein acid-trip home-movie version of Star Wars. In it there were several animated submissions that I thought were well made. So that’s why this volumn of my Animation Round-up will focus solely on my favorite animated bits from Star Wars Uncut (in no particular order).
