Rick Ducommun, who has the disagreeable task of playing the nosy neighbor, drives the plot by nattering in a high-pitched whine that works on the nerves like a dentist’s drill. Tom Hanks, who’s no slouch, can’t seem figure out how to play a moment: Jimmy Stewart-style put-up everyman? Preston Sturges-type reluctant hero? Ernie Kovacs in a bathrobe? If you don’t know what that is, here’s the short short version: Someone dissected the entire first Star Wars movie (ep IV) into 15 seconds bits. Then asked the world (via the interweb) to reshoot their own version of any scene they wanted to. After they had all the scenes they spliced them altogether into one frankenstein acid-trip home-movie version of Star Wars. In it there were several animated submissions that I thought were well made. So that’s why this volumn of my Animation Round-up will focus solely on my favorite animated bits from Star Wars Uncut (in no particular order).
