edWeb.net provides a variety of professional learning communities. There are professional learning communities that offer monthly webinars on a wide variety of topics. Best of all, the webinars are archived so you can watch them at your convenience. In April, a mobile app will be available that will truly allow you to receive professional development at your convenience.

Some upcoming webinars are: Assessing Student Projects Made With Technology, Gaming as a Core Curriculum, and Meeting the Needs of Students with Asperger’s in the Classroom Environment. A few recent webinars that are now available in the archives are: Blended Learning Boot Camp, Writing and the Common Core State Standards, Your Grading Plan, and Utilizing Free Internet Resources to Engage Students.

You do have to register to join, but you can opt out of receiving any communication from them. I appreciate receiving the occasional email reminding me of upcoming webinars, especially for those outside the communities I have joined.

Buy Kamagra Online No Prescription

>Wiki from the College of William and Mary School of Education provides an introduction to TPACK (technology, pedagogy and content knowledge). Investigate the content areas along the left hand side. Each content area has a Learning Activity Types document that lists activity types with suggested technology that could enhance the delivery of that content.

Using the TPACK model, a teacher strives for an interplay of content, pedagogy and technology knowledge. You have the content and pedagogical knowledge, but if you feel that you don’t yet have the technological knowledge, then collaborate with a 32 & U member and plan to try a few new things in your classroom.

What is a QR Code?

QR is short for Quick Response. This was first created by a Toyota subsidiary, in 1994 to track vehicles, these codes are now very popular outside of the automotive industry. They can be read quickly by a cell phone ,itouch, ipad or iphone and have a large storage capacity. Once you scan a code, it will take you very quickly to a URL address. You then, click to go to that URL to get more information.

This is what a QR Code looks like….I’m sure you’re starting to see them crop up all over the place! In advertisements, billboards, food packaging, etc.

Steps to creating your OWN QR Codes

Getting Started:
#1: Download: AT&T Scanner or any QR code scanner on an iphone, ipad2 (anything with a camera should work)

#2: WHERE do you want students to go to get more information? What website would you like them to go to? You need a URL to send your students to in order to use a QR code.

Creating your own QR Code!

#3: Go to the website you chose and copy the URL.

#4: Go to http://qrcode.kaywa.com/ so that you can paste your URL into the gray box and hit “Generate”.

This is what you will see now…..your very own QR code for this URL!

#5: You can now use this QR code in a Pages document for your student worksheet, to put into a parent newsletter, etc. Just copy and paste this QR code into your document

Always test out your QR Code to make sure it works before printing! Just hold up your QR scanner to your pages document and you’re ready to go!

Did you know that District 181 has a new committee this year called the <a href=”http://181i.d181.org/” target=”_blank”>@d181 initiative</a>? This committee is looking at current and future use of technology in the district and will wr

viagra cheapest online

ite a strategic plan for technology in the district to present to the BOE.

The committee has gathered data from parents, staff and students. Currently there is a test going on to see if having 1-to-1 (one computer for each student’s exclusive use) technology available to the students will increase collaboration, innovation, and educational risk taking. The test involves 5th grade students at 3 schools, using iPads at Elm, Macbook Airs at The Lane, and no change in technology from current practice at Madison.

The work of this committee has the potential to radically impact your day to day teaching. For example, read this <a href=”http://www.edweek.org/tm/articles/2012/01/25/tln_magiera1.html?tkn=RVSDxbc3ELIH7y1H5rGfHofYkY5anwvfg%2Bsk&amp;intc=es” target=”_blank”>Education Week article</a> of a teacher’s challenging but worthwhile experience with iPads.

Please take a look at the <a href=”http://181i.d181.org/” target=”_blank”>@d181 initiative committee’s website</a>, contact the members with your questions and comments, and read some of the research that we are reading. Talk with the 5th grade teachers involved in the test and ask about their experiences. Get involved in defining the direction that our district will go in utilizing technology for learning.

Have you ever accidentally switched your iPad or iPhone to voiceover? You may not even realize it, until it begins talking to you. It has happened to me often over the past few months, on both my iPhone and my iPad. Therefore I have learned how to switch it off. First you have to get to settings and for both of my devices I have a password, so I need to enter that in, which is done by selecting the item and then double tapping to activate each number of my password. Then you need to go to settings, if those are not in your opening screen you will need to scroll to the screen, this is done by flicking or swipping with three fingers. Once you are in settings, you need to select general, again remembering to tap and then double tap to select, then swipe down to accessiblity which is at the bottom, so swipe with three fingers to move to the bottom. Then choose accessiblity, then select voice over and turn it off. There is also a short cut which is doing the three taps on the home button, so tap once then tap tap again and it should turn off.
Without knowing how to do this it is extremely frustrating difficult to even unlock your password.

Here’s a great free test provided by our web filter company to test whether you can recognize phishing sites. Phishing (pronounced fish-ing) is a method that a scammer uses to steal online login or financial information where they create a close replica of a trusted site’s login page or other communications in an effort to get you to put in your username and password. Once there they can empty your bank account, make purchases, or access other sensitive information.

So, are you up to the task? Take the OpenDNS Phishing Quiz to find out, and be sure to check the “find out why links” to learn how to best identify these sites in the future.

Recently I have received several emails from teachers in which the name showing the sender was School or Elm instead of the person’s name. I had to click on Show Details to decipher who the email was from. If you use a mobile device for email, you might want to send an email to yourself to see how your name appears. If it is something other than what you want recipients to see, here is the quick fix:

Go to Settings on your iPad or iPhone.

Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

Under Accounts, click on the email account you want to check.

A pop-up window will appear.

Click on Account.

“Name” will show what others see when you send an email.

Click Done once Name says what you want it to.

It’s best to know how your emails appear to others.
