For 2012 the Texas 4-H Horse Validation will be handled through 4-H Connect and will involve uploading photos of the horse you are validating.  For a few years now we have been submitting electronic summaries of Horse Validations, this will only stream line the process.

By adding it to 4-H Connect, this will also simplify District and State 4-H Horse Show entry.  When you are ready to enter the District Horse Show you will select one of the horses you have validated in the system and indicate which classes you will be entering.  Sounds simple enough!!!!  For the State Horse Show you will only be able to ride horses in Qualifying Classes that are entered and ridden in the District Horse Show.

Look for more details soon.  And for now be thinking about taking the digital photos you will need to upload for validation.

This event means an opportunity to compete with your best photos, and it also represents the opportunity for a project group to take a ROAD TRIP!!!!  Cuero is not that far away from a lot of District 9, and the photos will be on exhibit at the Cuero Municipal Library from April 2 – April 26.  This would create an excellent opportunity for project leaders to show the “do’s and don’ts” of good photo taking.

For those wanting to compete, entries can be submitted between March 1, and March 24, 2012.

This camp is open to any youth ages 12 to 18 and there is no deadline for registration.  The camp is however limited to the first 30 people to sign up.  The camp will be hosted at Texas A&M University Golf Course in College Station April 27-28, 2012.  The cost is $250 and includes:  Lodging, Meals, professional instruction and onsite transportation.

• Turf Grass Management
• Rules of Golf
• Golf Etiquette

Check out this link at New Mexico State University.  They have been creating cool interactive games and lesson plans for kids to learn about Water, math, food, science and a lot more.  These games are all created with fun in mind and learning while you play.  Many of these may fit as a take home project for ongoing project groups.

For voting on motions and conducting business only two representatives from each D9 county are allowed to vote, but most anyone can attend the meeting and contribute.  The meeting will begin immediately following the District 9 4-H District Council Meeting (approximately 3:30 pm).  The District Council meeting begins at 2:00 pm and both the meetings take place at Grand Station.  Here is link to the flyer promoting both meetings:  Council Flyer.

These meeting are held together to allow for a fun family atmosphere in which 4-Hers and parents from across the district can congregate and share.  This should be a fun and productive meeting.

There is no cost for adults to attend the meeting, but we do ask that all youth register on 4-H Connect.  Youth registration includes a game card for use at Grand Station and covers the cost of the meeting room.

Upwards of 500 folks came to the Brazos Expo Center to learn about youth livestock exhibition.  The event featured topics ranging from Drug Residue Avoidance to Show Ring Etiquette, and all the major species were represented well.  A special “Ataboy” goes to all the county Extension Agents that made this event a success!!!
