The much anticipated movie about Mr. Richard “Dick” Wallrath, the largest individual donor to the Texas 4-H and FFA programs, opens Friday, February 17th in theaters across Texas.

We sincerely request that our Extension and 4-H Family support this emotion-packed full length feature film of Dick’s life for two reasons. First, it could have an impact on your own life. And secondly, because of Mr. Wallrath’s continued generosity, a portion of all ticket sales will go to both Texas 4-H and Texas FFA to further strengthen their much needed scholarship programs.
Please promote the importance of the opening weekend of February 17th. The success of the opening weekend will dictate their plan for nationwide release. Of course, the more success the movie has, the more funds are contributed to Texas 4-H and Texas FFA.

From Operation Survival in Cooke County. Madison Pearse, Cooke County 4-H Council President is shown sorting the “supplies” from the donations for the local volunteer fire depts.  The collected 537 packages of nutritional snacks, 76 chap sticks, over 1300 bottles of water and 1320 bottles of gatorade to be distributed.

The 2012 Salute to Excellence Nomination website is now open for ANYONE to nominate an outstanding volunteer leader, club manager, project leader, Extension Agent/Specialist, or business that has supported the mission and direction of the 4-H in your county, district, and/or the state of Texas.  All nominations are submitted on-line and complete and detailed descriptions of all awards can be found under the recognition page of the volunteer section website (http://texas4-h.tamu.edu/volunteer_recognition).

Nominations will be open until March 15, 2012.  Please share this information with your club managers, parents, and volunteers in your county.

Tarrant County 4-H will host a 4-H Science Experience Day on Monday, February 20.  Participants will sharpen their skills as they participate in a variety of experiments and activities designed to reinforce the scientific method process of investigation.

The event will be presented by Dr. M. Tarpley, Texas 4-H Science Coordinator.   Dr. Tarpley has been instrumental in expansion of the 4-H Science program and implementing the new Discover Scientific Method Poster Contest.    This program is specifically targeted to serve youth ages 11-18.  Mature 10-year-olds may request to attend.

Sponsorships will enable this opportunity to be provided free of charge for 4-H members.  However, pre-registration is required.  The registration form is attached and is due by Feb. 14.
